Kirby and the Forgotten Land has officially achieved the biggest launch in the franchise's history in the UK.
Released on March 25th, the latest entry to the 30-year old series has outsold the previous record setter - Kirby Star Allies - by more than double, bagging the number one spot in this week's UK charts. It's worth noting, as always, that this is purely boxed copies and doesn't include digital sales.
In terms of overall sales, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is also now the fifth biggest game in the franchise, already outselling the likes of Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, but just falling short of Kirby's Adventure Wii.
Currently, the best selling entry to the series remains Kirby's Dream Land, which sits at 5 million copies worldwide. Kirby Star Allies, meanwhile, has sold just under 3 million copies as of the end of 2020. It's likely Kirby and the Forgotten Land will come somewhere in between, but we wouldn't rule it out of eventually beating out the original Game Boy classic.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land joins Metroid Dread with its remarkable sales achievement, the latter of which accomplishing its own when it released back in October 2021. Metroid Dread performed slightly better than Kirby, but considering the agonising wait between Metroid Fusion and its sequel, this isn't entirely surprising.
We love Kirby and the Forgotten Land here at Nintendo Life, giving the game a solid 9/10 in our review. The game is currently sitting at 84 on Metacritic.

honestly deserved, i'm at the beginning of the 5th world right now but i have really enjoyed my time with the game, the music after world 4 goes incredibly hard
GamesIndustry.biz also report that it sold 2.5x the amount of Kirby Star Allies, a terrific result overall.
Not surprised everybody I know here in Ireland raced out to buy it on Friday. I know I was dying to play it myself.
Still waiting on mine from Amazon, its has been "delayed", not other information than that.
Ah well will have to carry on with trying to complete the Isaac challenges
Nice, I hope the next instalment is a true 3D game like super mario oddyssey 😃
Played the demo and thoroughly enjoyed it (somewhat unexpectedly). Just started Dead Cells and stuck in Blighttown at the minute, but next month I will pick this up.

If people are buying, then why wouldn’t it deserve it? Clearly it’s selling.
Great news! Just waiting on a sale before I get it
The king sits atop his rightful throne. Lol
Deservedly so it's pure Nintendo magic!!
Already beat that Gorilla boss at the shoping mall, so far the game is fun, even thou i left behind like 3 Wadle dees (one for every stage) my kids didn't let me play all weekend.

Very nice. Well-deserved. This is the funnest Kirby game I've played in years.
i can see Kirby and the Forgotten Land becoming the best selling game of the franchise.
I saw the title and for a moment hoped for Kirby bags launched on the UK store
So you can say this Forgotten Land won't be forgotten so easily from here on.
Love Kirby, I'm glad he's on top of that chart.
It's a fun, but weird game.
A few of the bosses feel more like generic characters found in Playstation era platformers than the Kirby universe.
We got Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Luigi, and now Kirby nicely covered with Switch releases. Now just give me an excellent new DK, Punchout!!, and Star Fox before this console generation ends.
I want a Kirby Movie!!!!!
@Muddy_4_Ever ABSOLUTELY 💯
@Franklin I'm weird, got a problem bruh!?!!! 😆 🤣
Great news for Kirby. Looks like yet another Switch entry of a Nintendo franchise is going to be its best seller, you love to see it.
LETS GO KIRBY!!!
"F-Zero? What's that?" - @Muddy_4_Ever probably.
Sadly, the games you listed outside DK all sort of fall under the obscure tent Nintendo has. Like purposely so too.
We can also probably add Kid Icarus to that list as well.
@Paraka I'll admit I'm being wildly optimistic hoping for a PunchOut!! release (it didn't sell great on the Wii). Star Fox wouldn't be out of the question (a normal controls redo of Zero would work) and one more 2D DK (as sort of a "Returns" trilogy) would be possible, too.
I love F-Zero, but its presence on Nintendo systems hasn't been consistent across all generations and few people have a sentimental attachment to a key character associated with the game. Icarus on the 3DS was magic, but I can't imagine how it would work absent a touch screen and I can't see a full reimagining of the gameplay coming until next generation (if ever).
@Muddy_4_Ever - I remember a video some time ago talking about could Uprising continue the way it did, or should it approach the series again in yet another unique fast-paced approach.
It rattled off a couple outlandish ideas, but did have me thinking; "Is Uprising's gameplay so ingrained that the franchise cannot continue without it?" Which tells me that Kid Icarus could be done similarly, but obviously it won't carbon-copy that lightning again.
Also; I may be anecdotal, but most of my F-Zero friends are also just ready to accept a GX port with AX modes and such by this point. Probably something Nintendo should (probably won't) consider, cuts out the resources needed for a whole new one.
Its a good game, I was scared the game would be too easy but difficulty is nice
I’m a big fan of the franchise and this title is peak modern Kirby. Very polished, very imaginative, and a blast.
Nice to hear it! So far I really like it and its super charming (I am in world 3 now), but its also probably the easiest Kirby I have ever played (wich is a bit of a shame).
