Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

JuanERdz

As far as DREAD is concerned, I’m about 7 and a half hours in according to the in game timer. Probably going to complete the first run in around 10 at 45-55%. As a parent it’s taken me about 8 sessions in 12 days to get that far. So to me that is what I would call a complete experience. Not too short, not too long.
Considering I have a lot less free time than I did ten years ago (when I could get through a 15-20 hour game in a few days) I certainly feel I get my money’s worth.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

JuanERdz

New super mario bros u. 2D. $60 (plus its a rehash)
Super mario maker 2. 2D. $60
Super smash bros ultimate. 2D $60
Tropical freeze. 2D. $60
Just a small sample. If you’re really bothered by 60 and live in the US, just buy it at Walmart and pay 50.

It is a full game and will sell at a full price.

Re: Random: Cheap Clones Of NES LEGO Set Feature Duck Hunt, Contra, And Super Mario Bros

JuanERdz

The premise might be a ripoff, but the tv designs are pretty interesting. Capturing different eras.

The “level” designs though, those need work. I’ve seen other builders make better ones with the official set.

Just got mine last week. Took my son for a locomotive, 500 dlls later we each came out with a big yellow bag. Had to choose between the NES and ECTO-1. Mario won.

Re: Random: Nintendo Extracts Customer's Missing Wedding Ring From Their Wii U

JuanERdz

Something similar happened to me. I seldom used discs in my wiiU and so when I recently tried to play Wind Waker HD I noticed discs could not be read. They would spin just fine but then show “disc cannot be read”. I originally had it in my entertainment center from late 2015 til about mid 2016. Since then The wiiU had been relegated to video streaming duty in my son’s room so I figured dirty lens as it was at the top of a cabinet that was seldom dusted. I decided to open it up to see what I could do. Turns out there was a coin in the drive. Right over the laser assembly. It was probably there since 2016 when he was a toddler. Coin gone, works perfectly.

Re: Nintendo Is Being Sued Over Joy-Con Drift Yet Again, This Time By A Child

JuanERdz

@StevenG
Exactly. And assuming an actual consumer retail cost of 40 USD to replace a single joycon, 5 million only covers 125,000 joycons of the minimum 60 million that must be in the US alone. Most likely a lot more.
Even if it cost nintendo 5 dollars to replace one joycon. That would only cover 1 million. The 5 million figure is starting to look low.

Re: Video: The Switch Is A Wii U Port Machine, And That's A Good Thing

JuanERdz

As someone who skipped the wiiU I don’t mind this so much. I can see the price complaint as valid. However, some games included all DLC. I’m unaware of the cost but in some cases the port is a good value and others not.
DKC TF, as I understand little was added and it was actually more expensive than on wiiU.
MK8DX, all DLC was included, the game was technically superior, and had pretty substantial additions. That’s an example of a port done right.
NSMB U DX: not worth the price.
We’ll see how pikmin 3 fares once all is revealed.

Re: Soapbox: 25 Years On, I Still Can't Get Into Yoshi's Island

JuanERdz

It's a great game. Of course everyone's tastes are different. I for one have tried to get into Ocarina and Majora's Mask and just can't. Tried on the 64, gamecube, 3DS and after two or three hours I just stop. The only thing I really dislike about Yoshi's Island is the perfect completion mechanic to unlock the extra stages. Makes it feel grindy. Whenever I replay it I try to get each stage perfect the first time through so I don't have to do it again.

Re: Community: What Do You Think Of Lego Super Mario, Then?

JuanERdz

I have always been a fan of both LEGO and SUPER MARIO since childhood (now, 41 with a 5 year old son very into LEGO). If Mario had a built in camera they would have nailed mi trifecta of hobbies right there. Now that i actually own the some sets I can say that the course building aspect is best fun for kids.
The models are actually pretty nice considering you are limited to the lego elements. Pirhana plants are pretty neat.
As far as mario, you need to get used to his look. From playing with him I see there is quite a bit of tech in him, the optical sensor and apparently accelerometers as well (he seems to detect impacts as well as speed).
Price: Licensed LEGO is never cheap.
Playability: so far seems a bit limited but maybe we will get the hang of it later.
Overall: I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Re: Feature: NES Creator Masayuki Uemura On Building The Console That Made Nintendo A Household Name

JuanERdz

@Damo Totally agree. I’ve been a reader of the site only relatively recently (last 18 months) but I really love articles like this. So much so that It finally compelled me to create an account to comment. This article may not have gotten the traffic of others but it was meaningful traffic. All positive and many people learned something.

I had heard about Uemura but I also learned a lot. I really like that he considers the super nintendo to be a complete system that is lacking nothing and can serve as a basis for other consoles moving forward. I completely agree. So much so that the controller design has been pretty much the standard with only slight additions.

Keep this content coming guys. Excellent work!

PS: also from texas (south texas) and we rarely get below 80% humidity. Indoors we’re lucky to get it down to 60%. But I understand north texas is a different story.
