Back in September, you might recall how we ran a story about the discovery of visible debug cubes in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version of Super Mario Sunshine.
Well, as of the latest update (version 1.1.0), this small oversight in the second secret area of Bianco Hills has been fixed up.
We had a look ourselves and can confirm the cubes are no longer visible in this section of the game:
When these debug cubes were originally discovered, The Cutting Room floor shared the following information:
"Presumably due to imperfect graphics emulation, these cubes were visible in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars release of the game."
Are you glad to hear these debug cubes have now been made invisible again? Or did they make it easier for you to navigate this secret stage? Leave a comment down below.

Welp time to shell out 80 Canadian bucks
So Sunshine got all these fixes, which I love! Thank you, Nintendo! But any chance we'll get Super Mario 64 in widescreen? Pleeeeease, Nintendo?
I never saw the debug cubes even before the update.
@TheFrenchiestFry
I know this has been said like a million times but WHERE THE HECK MARIO GALAXY 2? Also what do I do about joycon drift on the switch lite.
@Zeldafan79 Then you must have missed it.
Do the game still have the censor beep sound when "Go!" appears, or did they fixed it?
A good update. Would love a widescreen, scanline filtre options for 64
I have not started Sunshine yet, but I never see that as a big deal. I am happy that I can play the original Mario 64 on Switch. People are so sensitive these days
@SpiderSquid They fixed it! GameXplain did a video on it.
(For some reason my phone auto-corrected "GameXplain" to "Canadian," and I was tempted to leave it that way.)
I always thought the fluddless levels were the most fun
I actually thought those levels were better with the cubes that showed you the path of the blocks.
It made them less unpredictable.
@Snatcher
I don't know got lucky i guess but i never saw anything out of the ordinary.
Never played Sunshine before so didnt think anything off until saw it wasnt in the original. But then got bored of Sunshine, didnt like it at all. Maybe because I never played to original, dont get the hype
It didn't bother me either way
I'd love a checklist menu for blue coins. Even just a stage tally. Got every shine, but have not turned in any coins so i'll know how many ive found so far
I like the games in this collection and as I no longer own a 64 or GameCube, this is a perfect way to get them on the go. That being said, damn. It really shows just how lazy Nintendo has gotten over the past few generations. Even with the covid situation, I find it hard to believe that they really needed a month or two just to remove things like debug blocks and add incredibly basic features that should’ve been there from the beginning.
Now I can seriously think about this collection. Love the Cube controller.
Wow, Super Mario Sunshine has gone gold! Congrats!
@RhiannonRune you can see how many blue coins you collected in each stage by using the map
@Zeldafan79 The cubes kinda fitted in with the aesthetic of those levels, and sometimes these paths are deliberately visible in video games so it wasn't that noticeable. I would have just thought it was part of the game design had I not been forewarned.
@Diddy64 they were not a big deal, but on the other hand we have an overpriced lackluster compilation, so I can understand that people are annoyed.
mario 64 still dont have widescreen -_-
modders do what Nintendon't xd
So now I'll have to think when I play?
Seeing where platforms would go and when they would flip was a handy addition.
I couldn't care less about the debug cubes. All I was focused on is trying to not throw my controller threw the TV while playing Sunshine.
They were just in one small bonus level. But it's neat they finally fixed that.
What would widescreen bring to Super Mario 64 apart from an ugly stretched image or an crazy amount of annoying pop-up and clipping at the sides? Come on guys, there's enough logical reason why 64 is not widescreen.
@SpiderSquid Fixed
That's awesome, now all Nintendo needs to do is fix Mario's higher pitched voice clips and add widescreen option in SM64, and add back Mii selection on SMG profile creation, and we are GOLDEN!
@AJDarkstar Thanks for the correction! Fixed.
@Klobb are you sure? I can't seem to find it
@tech7 That I can understand. I have come to accept that Nintendo would never fully follow the competition, or what some third parties do of lowering the price of their IPs trilogies while being remaked (example, Crash N' Sane Trilogy).
When I heard of this I didn't think it would bother me during my gameplay. But it did and I'm glad it's been fixed
@Xenobound94
Don't hold your breath. That's like asking Nintendo to cure cancer.
@RhiannonRune yeah I believe it says how many blue coins you have when you hover over a stage, and there should be a option that says totals or something. I used it all the time.
They were never there guys
@Gytole Never intended to hold my breath, but we both know Nintendo has the ability to add widescreen support for Mario 64 if they wanted to. A lot of people didn't think Nintendo would add inverted options for Sunshine, and even less people expected Nintendo to add genuine Gamecube controller support. They have now delivered on both fronts, so either way, we at least know they are capable and interested to keep supporting the game post-launch. The real question is if their interest ends here with these Sunshine updates. We will have to see.
@SpiderSquid I believe that was fixed as well.
So about that second analog stick collecting stars in galaxy? Cause that's the reason I dont own this, ruins portable play.
@Xenobound94 "But any chance we'll get Super Mario 64 in widescreen?"
Unlikely since the game wasn't originally released in widescreen. This collection is more about preservation than re-creation.
@Snatcher I solved the Joycon drift with WD40. My Switch is the standard version, but it might work with Switch Lite too.
@MephilesDark "I solved the Joycon drift with WD40."
Very bad idea. WD-40 is a solvent intended for cleaning rust and oils from metal and can damage plastic and electronic components.
@Mountain_Man Sunshine wasn't in widescreen when it was originally released on the Gamecube either. Sure, it was probably easier to put that game in widescreen, but if fan hacks can get 64 to run in widescreen, Nintendo could if they really wanted to.
@Mountain_Man I had searched various solutions for this problem and I almost give up, and I was planning to buy a analog or a new joycon, so I found this solution. If it didn't work or damaged the joycon, I would have to buy a analog/joycon anyway. But after I used it my joycon still working until now. There are a lot of videos in YouTube about this, but maybe it's not recommended for Switch Lite.
@MephilesDark If you live in the US, you can get your Joy Cons repaired for free. That is by the far best solution. WD-40 might work, but it can dissolve plastic, so I would recommend against it. Its original purpose was for cleaning rust off of missile exteriors.
WOW you guys crushed mountain man what did he say?
