I'll be the first to admit that I think Game Freak has made some serious missteps in how they've handled the entire launch of Sword and Shield (they really should never do their own PR ever again) and I'm not entirely thrilled with how these games are looking, but come on. You cannot take a video game so seriously that you would want your entire government to intervene on something that hasn't even been released
I pre-ordered the digital version of Shield because I really wanted to try and see beyond the National Dex issue and see if the games were fun. I also thought, based on previous interviews, that the exclusion of Pokémon from the games would be a kind of one off thing (giving allowance for the fact that Sword and Shield the first "full" Pokémon game on console), but everytime I read something else Masuda has said I regret that pre-order and think it's a real pity about the way these games have been handled
2018 was a quiet year in terms of first party releases, and for 2019 they haven't announced anything concrete beyond Yoshi's Crafted World in March. You gotta bring out your big guns to hit sales targets like that.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind owning a set of these, but not at that cost. They're not much cheaper than a joy-con set but with far less functionality, and that cost on top of already paying for a sub-par online subscription that I only really have so that I can play Splatoon 2 just doesn't seem worth it to me.
"The way that consumers will be able to continue participating with our classic content is going to be through Nintendo Switch Online..." - OK, but then can we please get some classic content beyond three NES games a month? And most of them aren't even the good NES games!
I guess part of this is the release of the Switch itself. Since it will in all likelihood cover both handheld and console gaming for Nintendo in the future, it's less likely that we'll get the smaller/handheld experiences for LoZ in future so the gaps between games will be longer. With that in mind it's easier to release new content for an existing game that building a new one from scratch.
I would genuinely buy Twilight Princess again. I feel its continued re-release are as important as the stability gifted to our consoles in every firmware update.
There needs to be an option (even if it's only limited to doing it once) to change the country of your NNID. I linked mine to the UK eShop when the Wii U launched because the South African store wasn't available. I know this is my own doing, but the high cost of eShop retail games and the very strong Pound mean I buy very little digitally.
Not that this isn't awesome, but they keep adding Zelda games to the collection and all I want is a copy of Skyward Sword. Selects, eShop, anything Nintendo...
I'm really hoping that this does something about the country issues with the NNIDs. I live in South Africa but my NNID is locked to the UK eShop (eShop wasn't available in SA when the Wii U launched), and I really don't want to have to make a new ID and lose all of the content I've bought and the save game data I have.
I really don't like the idea of Linkle simply being a gendered swapped Link. If she (or characters like her) were to be included in future games, flesh them out and make them characters in their own right. From the trailer Linkle looks absolutely awesome, and I'd much rather see her in a game with her own story (maybe as Link's sister, who knows).
I eventually gave up playing Splatoon just because I could never stay connected to a server. Since launch I have managed to successfully play one round online, and that was it.
@KryptoKrunch half the problem seems to be that because the Wii U hasn't done particularly well in sales everyone's suddenly a market expert on how to "save" the console (or at least it's reputation).
For some reason the fact that it hasn't sold well diminishes some people's ability to just enjoy the games that are on it, and I really don't understand why that is.
@Mona-Reggie Out of complete curiosity I want to see this F-Zero Wii Fit crossover...
@jjmesa16 @edgedino I have EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings both sitting on my Wii U, but haven't played either of them yet so I'm neither here nor there about a new one. Whilst there are a lot of games that I'd love to see either get a remake (Luigi's Mansion) or a sequel (Pikmin 4), I really don't see the point in getting as upset as some people have over this year's E3. Could it have been better? Of course it could have. Has Nintendo's bad E3 thrown the Earth out of its orbit or caused all the women to become barren? No, so it's really not a crisis.
They know people want a proper Metroid game... They know people want Super Mario Galaxy 3... They know people want a new F-Zero game... They know people want a new EarthBound game...
This leaves us with one of two options. One: Either they know what we want and are being deliberately difficult because reasons, OR two: the NX is going to get one helluva launch lineup...
Nintendo's game page for Epic Yarn (http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Wii/Kirby-s-Epic-Yarn-281617.html) lists the GamePad as a compatible controller. I'm not sure how since parts of the game require pointer input from the Wii Remote, but if it does work I may just double dip since I hate switching into Wii mode for my Wii discs.
People seem to have had very high expectations for this Direct. I went in wanting to know when N64 games would be released on the VC, and a release date for Woolly World. In that way, this Direct was fantastic and everything else was just a nice bonus.
I think the main thing that all of the nay-sayers are missing is that this venture isn't aimed at you, the core audience. I'm a Nintendo gamer and, as such, own a 3DS and a Wii U because I enjoy the games that they release on these systems. The games that will be made for smartphones are for people who probably weren't going to buy the consoles anyway, so if Nintendo can make money off of them and we still get the games we want for our systems, then how are we losing out or suffering because of this?
Nintendo 64 VC support. N64 VC support. N-I-N-T-E-N-D-O 6-4 support.
Can't think of any other way to get that point across. As a side note, if Dr Toad: Mushroom Trauma Centre ever became a thing, I would make it my personal mission to ensure it was the biggest game of the year
I can only conclude that people want to buy games for the sake of buying them. I have combined 12 Wii and Wii U games that I need to finish, and an eShop wishlist of VC titles as long as my arm.
The only game I was really looking forward to was Captain Toad, and while it would have been great to play it while I was on leave, I still have plenty to keep me going until January.
Content is everything. The only game I've bought for the 3DS this year is Kirby Triple Deluxe, unlike last year where I shelled out for tons of games because the release schedule was amazing. XY have made me rethink getting ORAS, since I wasn't blown away by it (still good, but not entirely amazing)
Similarly with the Wii U, I've bought Donkey Kong and Mario Kart, and the next one I was looking forward to was Captain Toad, but now that's been pushed back.
At least 2015 is looking decent for the Wii U, but as far as the 3DS is concerned I don't see anything on the horizon that really excites me, which is a pity because I got a lot of fun out of it last year.
@Starwolf_UK Rainbow Bell Adventures wasn't released in the US, so it's either the PAL 50Hz version or the (I imagine) better running but unreadable Japanese version.
It's great that the Wii U VC is getting so much love, but the state of the 3DS VC is a bit sad (I don't really like Mega Man, so the promise of all his Game Boy games isn't doing anything for me).
Come now Nintendo, you have a great catalogue of Game Boy and Game Boy Color games - let's put them to some use!
Mario & Luigi will go onto my wish list - saving my pennies for Kirby next week. Definitely going to be supporting the GBA VC, but have to take it one game at a time.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country - So Much More Than Just DLC
@Cosats That's why I said "up until the very end, anyway"
My point is that this was written like the Xenoblade games are really interconnected, which by and large they aren't.

"...Monolith Soft rounded off the year with a magnificent return to the world of Drivers and Blades."

"For those of you who’ve played one or more entries in the series before, you’ll already know the fates of Lora and Jin..."
Dom, you know that (right up until the very end, anyway) Xenoblade 1 and 2 are entirely unrelated to each other, right?

Definitely getting Power Paintbrush, very interested in Zack & Wiki, and absolutely getting Xenoblade Chronicles from today's sale.
