The King of Red Lions is a pretty quirky character, even by Nintendo standards. It's a talking boat after all, and... well, just play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD to catch up.
Of course, Hyrule Warriors Legends kind of gives the story away - to a degree - by virtue of featuring the character in his human-esque form. As you can see in the images above he's a well-built fellow, too, so can no doubt benefit from running around vanquishing hundreds of foes.
Koei Tecmo has now kindly released a new trailer showing the hero in action, which gives us a good look at his special moves and transformations into boat form. It looks pretty cool, and we should also remind you that the new content in the 3DS game will be available in the Wii U original too - that's something to be excited about.
So, check it out below and let us know what you think.

That's a lot of the same soundbyte being used for his attacks "HAH, HAH, HAH"
By the way: The announcement of this character was a huge spoiler for me.
I didn't know before that this boat was in fact a human or even the king of Hyrule. Oh well.
I'll be downloading all the new stuff for the Wii U version.
The voice actor sounds bored lol
I like the look of him, still not sure about the 3DS version though after already playing the Wii U version in HD it just doesn't seem right on 3DS.
When is this coming to Europe?
Do we know how the new content is coming to Wii U? Free, piece meal, another season pass?
New content always gets me to jump back in. HW was good enough I'd even sign up for another season pass, first was well, worth it.
I wonder if this is ND worthy? I need an "ND worthy" meme.
Edit: Judging from that pic near the end I hope we don't need to buy the 3DS version to transfer over the new content. Tough if we can buy it separatley but it' sa free DL if you buy the 3DS version I"m ok w/ that. I'm still waiting for Nintneod to sell the challenges from the 3 squid amiibo in Spaltoon for people who don't want to spend $35 on 3 toys. Maybe $5 each, all 3 for $12?
You can just FEEL the intensity as the Red Lion King attacks with every swing!
@blackbox64 Part of Hyrule Warriors' charm is its atrocious voice acting. I'm very glad to see they haven't broken away from that for the 3DS version
I'd think they'd save this for the Nintendo Direct
can't wait for this game to come out. i really want to play it but i'm not paying $65 for it so I can wait for the 3DS version
Wait so is this a new character or is it just a new trailer of a character that was announced when Hyrule Warriors Legends was first announced?
@HeroOfCybertron New trailer, the character was revealed at E3 2015.
I predict that the Direct will have Groose.
@Tiefseemiez You have my sympathies; this guy makes grateful that I finished Wind Waker a few years ago, since yeah, he's pretty much a walking, talking spoiler - except that he's floating instead of walking for no reason at all in this trailer, and calling his monotone grunts "talking" is a pretty big stretch.
Really hope this eventually becomes DLC for the Wii U version...
@Fath heh, smash bros shiek from the legend of Zelda comes to mind.
I think I wish the whole game was done in this style, because it looks a lot better than the fugly, low-res/blurry, slightly muddy looking textures of the normal game.
Also, I'm still rather underwhelmed by this game overall.
@Captain_Toad I was just about to say the same thing!
@Tiefseemiez If you don't know what happens to Aeris when you start playing FVII, don't go on the Internet until you're done with the game, because everyone and their brother knows what happens, and won't think twice about saying it out loud! Same rules apply here.
HAH! HAH! HAH!
This character feels...weird... he just stay too much in human form, I guess the boat form was too "static" to work with, but a fully boat character would have been more curious and interesting in my opinion.
I wonder if he at least transform when dashing, that would be pretty neat!
