Will all the complainers just go over to a corner for a while and stay there while the rest of us do our happy dance? Thanks!
What I would love, and throw stupid amounts of money at, is if Nintendo could make essentially a mini Game Pad in the shape of a Game Boy Advance for these games. That would be awesome!
This is a good week! Definitely getting Super Mario Kart. Really want to get Adventure Island II as well, but would rather have it on my Wii U than on my 3DS, so will hold out for that one.
I remember a while ago Capcom said that they weren't sure when the Game Boy Mega Man games would come out because Nintendo has such a packed VC release schedule.
Renegade. On Wii U. That's it. And it's not like the retail / download releases are so mind blowing that it justifies a VC-less week on the 3DS.
I want to give you my money Nintendo, but you really aren't making it easy.
My Kirby obsession aside, the Year of Luigi has been fun, and Luigi's Mansion 2 is one of the best games I've played on any console. Here's hoping it doesn't take them another decade to make part 3 - the GamePad would make an amazing vacuum cleaner Nintendo!
Nintendo, you talk a good talk, but given the recent run of downloads, you haven't been walking the walk. You announce N64, GBA and DS games for the Wii U VC, and then you give us NES Open Golf. And the 3DS VC gets nothing for two weeks in a row. Really? This is why you aren't getting any of my money, and I'm actually quite a dedicated fan.
Like with the GBA/N64/Game Cube/DS virtual console on the Wii U, I won't get excited until (if) we get firm release dates. I'm a patient man, but I'm getting bored of all these amazing things being announced and then not having them actually be released.
Whilst I do like this idea and would certainly make use of it, what we want to know now is WHEN? WHEN are we getting DS, GBA and N64 games on the VC? It's counter productive to announce these things and get people excited and then we have to wait over a year without seeing any of it. Even if it won't launch for another 6 months, just say so so people don't get disappointed every week.
Here's holding thumbs that the reason this is looking so barren is because there's a Direct coming this week and they'll announce some awesome downloads then.
@sonicfan1373 To an extent I completely agree with you: there's a reason I game on consoles and not on tablets and phones. The thing is that there's no guarantee that anyone who buys any of these on a phone or tablet would have bought a Wii U/3DS to try out the consoles anyway, so I'm not sure that there would be any tremendous loss should someone not like the game.
Trust me, I'm not in favour of Nintendo going third party or of them dumbing down their games for phones and tablets, but in light of recent events I think that it might be a smart move to place selected old games (possibly the more arcade oriented games of the day, like Clu Clu Land or something) up for sale to an enormous market to help boost their financial situation. If done correctly it wouldn't amount to anything more than the weekly download update that we get, and is one way of broadening their horizons without tremendously dumbing down their new games for a smaller platform (a la Sega). But hey, it's just a thought.
Maybe the thing to do would be to take a less "dangerous" approach: release games from the VC catalogue onto phones and tablets. They could charge the same as they do on the Wii U/3DS VC, so nobody who owns the console versions is being cheated, it could bring in a decent amount of money that would help cover the costs of developing for the 3DS and Wii U, and in the mean time continue to make dedicated new games that are only available on the 3DS and Wii U.
I'm really happy about this patch. It's not that this is a bad game because it's too hard, it's just that, at times, the level design is poor and the deaths are cheap. I've died dozens of times in some 3D World stages, but it never feels cheap.
With the extra lives, the problem should be alleviated. And in the game's defence, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did with Generations
At the risk of asking what may be a very unpopular question, is Link to the Past really as good as everyone says? Because I've been left feeling a little underwhelmed by quite a few Zelda titles (granted, these have been on the 3DS VC - never played a home console Zelda game before).
There are a number of problems with all this doom and gloom. Firstly, the assumption seems to be that IF the Wii U were discontinued, everyone will just hop over to the PS4/Xbox One - I don't speak for everyone, but I wouldn't. I've played on them and the PS3/360, and they're personally not to my tastes.
Secondly, if the Wii U were discontinued, whilst it has a small install base, that's gonna be +-4 million people (by the last sales estimate) who will be very unhappy and probably unwilling to buy another Nintendo home console at launch, which isn't something Nintendo wants or can afford.
Being pessismistic, given that most writers agree the Wii U will match GameCube numbers, if the console were to sell between 5 and 6 million units a year over a 5-year hardware cycle, that would actually take it beyond the GameCube's numbers. It's not spectacular, but the 3DS/2DS will make up for the shortfall (as the Game Boy Advance did for the GameCube).
People seem to forget that the Wii was a fluke with its amazing numbers, and it was very unlikely from the start that its successor could match its numbers. So long as the Wii U has a decent library and sells enough to not become an unmanageable hindrance to Nintendo, I will gladly support it for many years to come, because I've had some tremendous fun playing on mine.
Right, that's my 10c worth of opinion, carry on everyone
Wasn't it mentioned (either in relation to NSMB2 or NSMBU) that 3D Mario platformers are more successful in the west while Japan seems to be better with the 2D platformers? If that is the case, 3D World probably won't boost Wii U sales over there.
@ThomasBW84 I've never played any of the original versions, so I'm gonna hold out for a review and save the Sega 3D games for when there's a bit of a lull in my gaming agenda
Definitely getting Rayman Legends now. A bit bummed I spent my eShop voucher over the weekend on Pikmin DLC, because then it would really have been a bargain, but such is life i guess
@CountWavula I do think it's being made with the same engine as Return to Dreamland, but bear in mind how underwhelming 3D World looked based on its first trailer.
Can't judge until we see more really, but I love Kirby so it'll be a day 1 release for me.
@Anclation What I've realised is that the Gamepad won't be a selling point for the Wii U. Counter-intuitively, Nintendo needs people to buy the console to realise how awesome a controller it is, rather than convincing people that the Gamepad is awesome enough to buy the console.
I think my issue with the Wii U VC isn't the fact that the N64 and Game Boy Advance games still have to come. My issue is that, while the NES and SNES have some amazing games, they simply haven't been released for download. I will gladly buy games that I want to play, but I'm not going to pay premium prices for games like Pinball. I do actually get bringing Game Boy Advance titles to the Wii U - whilst they may look a bit strange on the TV, it could actually be quite a clever marketing strategy for the Gamepad.
On the 3DS front, what's disappointing is that it had such a good start. I loved the chance to play Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, both those that I'd owned in the past and others I'd never heard of. The problem now is that the 3DS VC just seems to have become a dumping ground for NES games. I have no issue with NES games on the handheld, but personally I'd rather have NES games on my Wii U and handheld games on my handheld. The choice would be nice.
All I actually would like to see for my systems is a little consistency. By all means bring out the early NES games, there might be some people who have nostalgic connections to some of them. But at the same time, bring out some of the better games that showcase what made these earlier consoles, both home and handheld, the monsters that they were. There was a reason Nintendo beat Sega out all those years ago, but that reason certainly wasn't Urban Champion.
Well, I love falling block puzzles to kill time, and I have a very soft spot for Wario, and I have all his other VC games on my 3DS, so Wario's Woods it is I guess.
Now, Nintendo, if you could find your way to releasing Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman! on the 3DS VC, it would be greatly appreciated. K thanks!
I wanted to buy Rayman Legends, but I live in South Africa and absolutely nowhere in the country has stock of the Wii U version. Not the actual retailers, not the online stores, nothing. Ubisoft, send some stock over here and you might get a few more sales!
Might get Harvest Moon sometime down the line, but for now I'm still working through Kirby's Dream Land 3 and my copy of Pikmin 3 just arrived, so I'm good

Already have Wario's Woods on my 3DS, and got Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for free. Beyond that, nothing really interests me this week.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th February (Europe)
Awesome. So that's 3 weeks now that the 3DS VC hasn't received an update. I'm getting very bored of this.
Will definitely get Dr Mario at some point, but it doesn't exactly make me jump up and scream in excitement.
Re: Space Simulator "Space Pioneer" Shoots for the Stars with Kickstarter
This looks absolutely amazing, but $60 for a physical Wii U copy? Give me a digital option and I'm all over it.

Maybe the lack of VC on both systems means we have a Direct coming this week announcing new systems for both consoles. Calling it!
On a more realistic note, getting Toki Tori to give it a spin, since I don't have it in any of its other forms.

One of those copies is mine, and it arrived today. Hold my calls, I'll be busy for the next 137 or so hours...
Re: Nintendo Download: 17th October (Europe)
Sonic Lost World at retail for me. VC still looking a bit sad.
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Could Have Ruled The Micro-Console Market With Wii
If I didn't own a Wii U, the idea might be appealing, especially to the more budget-conscious gamer.
I have no problem with the concept, but the micro console market is still one that hasn't proved that it has that much potential to it.
Re: Nintendo Download: 10th October (Europe)
Pokemon X at retail for me.
There aren't words to describe my sadness at the state of the VC on both the 3DS and the Wii U.
Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 1st October Broadcasts
The SM3DW footage looks awesome, and I can't wait for the new Kirby game, so all of that was awesome.
The only thing I would've liked is news on the Wii U VC and having a few more systems supported.
Re: Pokémon X & Y
Just pre-ordered my copy of X
Re: Nintendo Download: 26th September (Europe)
Nothing worthwhile on either VC this week. Come on Nintendo, I REALLY want to throw money at you, but you aren't giving me anything to work with...
Re: The Pokémon Company Brings Back Its "Gotta Catch 'Em All" Sweepstakes
Lame.
How many ways do we have to beg for the original games on the VC before they eventually crumble?
Re: Nintendo Direct: Pokémon Direct Scheduled For Wednesday September 4th
Well, it wouldn't be a Pokemon-related discussion without it, so here we go:
To keep us busy until X & Y are released, you're going to release Red and Blue on the 3DS VC, aren't you Nintendo? Well, aren't you!?
A guy can dream
Re: Nintendo Download: 5th September (Europe)
Revenge of the Gator for me! Yay for more Game Boy games!
Re: Review: DuckTales: Remastered (Wii U eShop)
@Shworange They can take all of my money if they redo the original NES Tiny Toons game, or even just release it on the VC.
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th August (Europe)

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th July (Europe)
Retail Pikmin for me, and then definitely getting Dream Land 3
Re: Classic Game Boy Mega Man Titles Coming To 3DS Virtual Console
Not a huge fan of the Mega Man games, but it's great to see more Game Boy games making their way onto the VC!
Re: 3DS UK Success in 2013 Offset by Abysmal Wii U Figures
The only way Nintendo could have been less prepared for the Wii U's launch is if they'd forgotten to make the console itself.
Re: Nintendo Download: 18th July (Europe)
I am a very patient man, but this lack of anything on Wii U is starting to bug me. How hard can it possibly be to chuck a few NES games onto the VC?
Unless they're planning a massive surprise Nintendo Direct where they announce N64 and GBA games this week, I'm thoroughly unimpressed.
PS. Shantae for the win!
