Re: Video: Nintendo Reminds Us of Just How Much DLC We Had for Super Smash Bros.

Jaeger

@Adamario Shulk isn't treated as a third party character. He's along with the other stand-alone series fighters and is at the very end of the list next to Wii Fit Trainer due to being the most recent stand-alone character franchise (and thus the "final" one). If you notice they order the stand-alone series chronologically using release points, like this:

Mr. Game & Watch (Game & Watch) > Little Mac (Arcade/NES) > Duck Hunt (NES) > R.O.B. (NES) > Ness (SNES) > Captain Falcon (SNES) > Villager (N64 Japan/GC USA) > Olimar (GC) > Wii Fit Trainer (Wii) > Shulk (Wii)

With a full roster including Miis, Mr. Game & Watch and Little Mac are at the very top after the DK reps possibly since there's free space. Duck Hunt is also oddly placed before the string of Kirby > Star Fox > Pokemon, but right under that come the franchises with only 1 rep each. You probably get the point now.
Since Shulk is the latest choice out of the two Wii games (Wii Fit coming before Xenoblade) he goes last out of the bunch, THEN the third party characters, though with a proper full roster the clone trio come after Shulk and THEN the third party characters, which shows he's not even considered 3rd party. If he were, he'd be after the clones, don't you think? I'm sure that if Shulk wasn't in the game, Wii Fit Trainer would be the one right next to the clones/3rd parties instead. It's just a matter of how they placed characters for this game.

Re: Review: FreezeME (Wii U eShop)

Jaeger

I'm glad you guys came through with a review for this right on time. I noticed the game on the New Releases section of the Wii U eShop like 10-15 minutes before this review was posted, saw the $9.99 price, remembered hearing decent stuff about it and was keen on purchasing an eShop card for it before the $9.99 price went up tomorrow. I never get Nintendo games without first reading up on NL's reviews so this definitely helped at the last minute.
I'm a bit disappointed to hear that there's only 4 worlds and to a lesser extent, that boss fights aren't good and that controls can be clunky, but for $9.99 I suppose it won't dent my wallet that hard. I got FAST Racing NEO at full price and I don't even play it anymore after beating the single player stuff, so whatever.

Re: Review: FreezeME (Wii U eShop)

Jaeger

@Spoony_Tech It's not like people can just scroll all the way down effectively ignoring the review all the same... oh wait, they can.
It's what I used to do to at least get an overview of what they thought of the game before actually reading all of it, mostly if the game turns out to be bad.

Re: The Game Lineup for EVO 2016 Has Been Announced

Jaeger

Pokken is definitely an odd pick. I don't expect the game to be strong on a competitive aspect due to the seemingly lacking depth in gameplay and controller compatibility, but I'll check it out nonetheless and see how that goes.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS)

Jaeger

@KrakenSoup They do that on purpose. The whole strategic point to Monster Hunter is that you need to mind your attacks and other actions (healing, sharpening, cooking, etc.) because most actions will have long animations that will leave you open, and managing that is part of what makes it challenging and different, as opposed to being able to just mindlessly mash with fast attacks that barely leave you open.

It's not for everyone but you learn to deal with it. It mostly sucks against some of the more overpowered monsters or the agile ones that are harder to catch alone.

Re: Review: Terraria (3DS)

Jaeger

Such a shoddy port and at that price? Considering the PC version is the more recent update-wise and is always on sale for dirt cheap... This version isn't worth getting at all. I'm glad I didn't waste the $20.

Re: Review: Discovery (Wii U eShop)

Jaeger

@A01 It's 864x864, actually. Only PS4 and Xbox One have the bigger worlds. Even 360 and PS3 had to settle for small worlds, and even then it's not that bad of a size. You'll never really end up exploring a world entirely anyway so it's fine. I wouldn't mind if it were slightly bigger though, not so much asking for PS4/One world sizes but a bit more would be alright.

And I think the complaints stating "oh it's ANOTHER Fire Emblem character" are completely unfounded given that Corrin is one of the most interesting and unique characters to date. He may be "another Fire Emblem character" in name, but when it comes to play style he's anything but.

You misunderstand. I don't care if we get more FE characters, anybody is fine with me as long as it's a new character over a veteran (as nice as they are, and them being slightly redone in this game is great, new blood feels a lot fresher and much more fun regardless). While I'm not outright interested in Corrin (and definitely not Fates for specific reasons) out of the last batch of DLC, I will still buy him, mostly because I play Smash tournaments and need him, and given that I enjoy using most of the roster anyway, I will give him a chance unconditionally.

All I'm saying is his addition feels like it's Sakurai being biased in favor for Fire Emblem, what with wanting to add Robin and Lucina because he really enjoyed Awakening. It just makes it feel like Corrin's inclusion is the exact same scenario, in that he added the character out of his enjoyment rather than anyone begging for it, especially with the ballot going on where they could've seen if anyone even asked for Corrin (though, what do I know, the results are kept away from us anyway).

I genuinely don't understand how anyone could complain about a character who morphs into parts of a dragon, then in the same breath press on about how we should have gotten another cartoon icon like Rayman, Shovel Knight or Shantae, as if we didn't have enough of THOSE already too.

?????
I never even said anything about that lmao. Hell, I'm one of the same people that would much rather have a Nintendo character, Corrin included, over undeserving indies like SK, Shantae, etc., and other characters like Rayman. If anything, I voted for Isaac and I'm not even mad with the results, despite being uninterested in Fates and never playing Bayonetta. Hell, Bayonetta being in made me try her game (which I enjoyed greatly, though its absurdly short length left a sour taste in my mouth at the same time :/ ), and I couldn't be any more excited for her. Cloud also turned out to be amazing and I'm thoroughly enjoying him aside from my main, Shulk.

Seriously though you're kinda ranting in the wrong place here. You misunderstood my original comment and, while people DO complain about more swordsmen/FE characters/whatever, I couldn't care less about that as I personally favor disjointed characters anyway. All I'm saying is Corrin feels like a biased addition from Sakurai, no complaints attached whatsoever.

"Nintendo really seems to be doubling down on it, too, as the main unit, Corrin, will soon be arriving as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. to raise awareness."
Or Sakurai just wanted yet another FE character seeing as he's way too enthusiastic about the series. Looks more like bias on his part than anyone actually liking him and asking for him or to give the game exposure.

Re: SEGA Reveals the Logo for Sonic the Hedgehog's 25th Anniversary

Jaeger

@MitchVogel A new Generations game would be fantastic, considering the first one was solid. I'd just like it if that one was made for Wii U, it kinda sucked how the only Nintendo platform that arrived on was 3DS. I had to make do with the PC version on my not-so-great laptop...

I'm all for VC of Sonic games, though. Sonic Advance 3 is great!

Re: Giveaway: Grab Yourself a Free Copy of Cube Life: Island Survival

Jaeger

@rjejr My bad, there IS co-op for Tower Defense and 2-player versus for Death Match (both of which are only multiplayer). Just no co-op for Survival, the only "standard" mode with co-op is Creative at the moment, is what I meant.

I believe all multiplayer allows is 2 people, one on Gamepad and the other on Wii U Pro or Classic Controller (something that this game thankfully is compatible with, unlike Minecraft :/).

Re: Minecraft Has Become the Ninth Best-Selling Game on the Japanese eShop

Jaeger

I just got it myself yesterday. My only gripes with it are the small world sizes and lack of Classic Controller compatibility (seriously, now I need to spend $50 on a single Wii U Pro controller just to play this co-op?). Other than that it's just Minecraft, which is never a bad thing.

More support on the gamepad would've been nice but I hardly care about that. I'd mostly prefer the d-pad to function on the first control scheme cause I find that better for scrolling through my items instead of L/R. Still can't get used to that, and I don't like the 2 other control schemes which do use d-pad for that.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Will Feature 2-Player Local Multiplayer

Jaeger

@hcfwesker @NaturalGus "The arcade version features two screens for local multiplayer and it was initially unclear how (or if) multiplayer would carry over into the home console port, but the development team has thankfully found a way to make it happen."

I think the article is welcomed due to how they handled multiplayer for this game on arcades. It's nice to know how it's going down in consoles thanks to people knowing ahead of time and informing people, since it's kinda confusing. Don't really see the problem in that.

Plus thanks to people talking about this now I know that it won't work like the Naruto Storm games for example, where both players could just play on the same 1 screen instead of needing separate screens over each player's shoulders. I personally wish it wouldn't be the way it's gonna be, but oh well.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Will Feature 2-Player Local Multiplayer

Jaeger

I would've liked it better to all be on one screen, mostly if this game were to have a tournament scene of some kind. Kinda disappointing, but oh well.

@MitchVogel You might wanna add that Wii U Pro and the Classic Controller will also be available options. It'd help some people that didn't know prior such as myself (I just found out a few hours ago).

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2015

Jaeger

@tedko Yeah it honestly makes little sense. MM3D is still pretty much the base game with a few differences ("upgrades") and slight changes to the boss battles to change the way the battle's dynamics worked.

MH4U is definitely the best 3DS retail game there was this year. Improvements over MH3, more engaging combat (the verticality to environments and mounting add a lot more to the game IMO), great visuals, really good DLC rewards in the costumes and weapons based on other series' tie-ins. I eventually got tired of the game not even going past HR7, but that was because I stopped having people to co-op with. If not for that I'm pretty sure I would've spent a lot more time in it, though I can safely say I didn't drop the game due to the game itself getting boring, moreso the lack of friends to play it with (friends that weren't way ahead of me, anyway).

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2015

Jaeger

Out of all those games the only ones I like are Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
I played Box Boy and felt it was way too easy, though not exactly bad. Pokemon Shuffle's nice but got old after a while and Majora's Mask is just a remake so I'd rather ignore that, even if the original is fantastic. I'll reserve my thoughts on FRN and Steamworld Heist as I'm still thinking about whether or not to get them.

Re: Interview: Image & Form CEO Talks Steamworld Heist amiibo, Multiplayer And The Kindness Of Nintendo Fans

Jaeger

@JaxonH Well I tend to prefer a lot more longevity in my games, or else it feels like I used them up way too quickly if there's already nothing else to do past the main story (or whatever the main draw to the game is). I don't really like replaying games right away either.

I recently got Bayonetta ($30 on eShop cause physical copies died) and while I enjoyed it a lot I was extremely disappointed by the length of the game and I don't see any point in replaying the same stages over and over to get more out of the game. This was so bad that as much as I'd like to give Bayonetta 2 a try I just don't find it worth it for something I can breeze through in 9-11 hours yet again, especially for $30 more. This kinda thing applies with any other game. If I can't get long play times out of it because it doesn't offer tons of other content besides the main thing (like Hyrule Warriors and Xenoblade) then it kinda doesn't feel worth the money to me, again, regardless of how great the game might be.
