My all-time personal favourite console. I rediscovered my old purple box last year and have been replaying some old favourites, while also finding new ones at CEX. Looking forward to this very much!
I've made it to the late stages of Super Mario RPG and just saved Nimbus Land. I'm also playing through Shrek SuperSlam on the GameCube, which I recently picked up as an addition to the collection of wrestling games I have for the ol' purple box.
Started Sonic X Shadow Generations, which I received for Christmas.
Meanwhile, dusted off the GameCube again for a few rounds of Double Dash with the kids, as well as a chance to try out a bit of wrestling in the kingdom of Far Far Away following a recent purchase of Shrek SuperSlam.
Missed a few days of my play through of Mission in Snowdriftland (each level is behind the door of an advent calendar). A great, surprisingly challenging platformer 😁
@Styrophoamicus I'm similar - received my Switch as gift for my first Father's Day/Birthday as a dad. The boy is currently playing Mario Kart with his sibling as I type this.
Wanting to return to a simpler time, I dusted off my old copy of Star Fox Adventures last night to begin saving Dinosaur Planet for the first time in over 20 years. It's November 2002 all over again!
I'm excited to find out whether it holds up to my memory of playing it originally. Having not played a Star Fox game before this one, I didn't have any preconceived notions of what it should be, and it became one of my favourite games growing up.
@JohnnyMind give it a go. I started playing on Sunday and it's something you can dip in and out of, spending as little or as much time on as you'd like.
Jamboree is still going down well in our house. Elsewhere, I picked up Viewtiful Joe for the GameCube this week and have enjoyed the first couple of levels on that so far.
Also got back into Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting on my Evercade Super Pocket.
@TYRANACLES I actually finished a play through of XIX recently and had a whale of a time. I also play through the Day of Reckoning games fairly often. But a few weeks ago, I picked up Wrestlemania X8 for a few quid (I traded it in back in the day) so have been trying to capture every title in Path of a Champion. It's a bare bones game and the engine isn't quite what it would become for the following year, but it makes for a good curiosity piece and is the last game, I believe, to have WWF branding and feature some of the arenas of the time. Plus, it has the original NWO.
I finished Echoes of Wisdom this week and must say that I absolutely loved it. Have now gone back to Metroid Prime Remastered to find that I was only a couple of artifacts away from the end. Found those and now keep getting Ridley to within an inch of his life, only to fall and try again.
Needed a bit of a mental health reset this evening, which meant some mindless Wrestlemania action on the GameCube.
Hit a few swanton bombs on Wrestlemania X-8 last night before proving to the rest of the household who the true Mario Party ace is with a well-earned victory in Jamboree's pro mode.
This morning I've had a few games of Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting on the Super Pocket, and hope to get a little time in with Echoed of Wisdom later on.
Still making my way through Echoes of Wisdom, which I'm absolutely loving. The kids have now started on it, too - their first Zelda game.
Elsewhere, I picked up Wrestlemania X8 on the Cube for a few quid in CEX today, completing the set of WWE games on the purple box. It's a bare bones experience, but I'll be firing it up this evening for nostalgia's sake.
And, finally, my wife was talking about how she loved Streets of Rage as a kid, so we've introduced our son to it and had a good session last night.
@MegaChem I played it during the Olympics and wholeheartedly agree - incredible game!
The final section, going down to the Zero Suit before locating the fully kitted out suit is amazing. Going from being completely vulnerable to unstoppable was a helluva rush.
Away with my Super Pocket this weekend and managed to pick up a copy of Duke Nukem Collection 1 on Evercade cartridge before leaving. First time playing through the original game. Great 2D action platformer!
Finished my first play through of Red Dead Redemption this week so chilling with some shorter plays this weekend. Tried my hand at Wrecking Crew for the first time and loved it so far, as well as beginning Metroid: Zero Mission - both via NSO.
@mariomaster96 I recently picked up a second hand copy and tried to keep my expectations in check following SMB Wonder, but I couldn't believe how much worse it was. Probably my least favourite Super Mario entry.
@Bunkerneath I must admit to only realising earlier this year that the Gamecube is retro, having rediscovered my old purple box of joy. I've since been picking up the odd issue of Retro Gamer.
@Ryne-Gaia Was that your first WWE show? Incredible ending with Paul Heyman.
This weekend, I've been making my way through Bowser's Castle in the first Paper Mario game from the N64 on NSO. Going to be a little sad when it ends.
@Duncanballs same. Only Playstations I've owned have been the 3 and 4, both towards the end of their lives. I've always been a Nintendo on day-one kinda guy.
I saw an article on another site earlier about how console sales are down, too. Not only has the cost of living hit hard, but it's not as if there have been any new consoles for several years at this point.
I do have an Evercade VS-R pre-ordered for next month, though.
I'm 9 hours into the original Paper Mario via NSO at the moment. Due to the art style, it's really easy to forget you're playing an N64 game. It's aged well.
Still also dipping in and out of Def Jam Vendetta on the Gamecube every now and again.
Picked up a copy of Def Jam Vendetta for my Gamecube recently. Can't believe I never gave it a look 20 years ago. It's the same AKI engine as WWF No Mercy, only further polished. Incredible wrestling game with a fun story mode.
@CaleBoi25 it took me a while to beat Phantom Ganon but ultimately I found the best way for me was to collect a load of sundelions, cook them up in some highly restorative recipes, then go to town with one of the phantom's weapons, eating your meals as you go.
Red Dead Redemption 2 would be a great choice for an early third party port to the Switch Successor, given that original Red Dead made the jump to Switch last year.
I recently relocated my old 3DS recently and discovered it was loaded with NES and GBA games (a goodwill gesture for picking up the machine at launch price, if memory serves). As a result, I'm playing Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap for the first time.
I literally downloaded the app last night and was shocked to find no Super Mario Land. Can't believe they've only just added what was surely a day one.
I saw a video yesterday about Saturday Morning Slam Masters, a Capcom arcade wrestling game from the 90s, which also has a SNES port. Found it on Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 on the Switch for a quid and change.
I picked up a copy of James Bond: From Russia with Love for the Gamecube this week. Started it last night and loving the fact they actually had Sean Connery reprise his role as 007.
I completed my latest run through of WWE Day of Reckoning on the Gamecube, so naturally moved on to Day of Reckoning 2 to continue the story. I loved how those games were linked by their story modes.
Other than that, been grateful that the select button subs for inserting a coin on Thunder Hoop, which I'm playing on the Gaelco Collection 1 on Evercade.
@Maubari I'm the same. Could never really get into BOTW, but TOTK has had me playing almost daily since Christmas. Maybe because it's a more complete version of what BOTW was going for?
Playing TOTK this weekend, and just finished a play through of Story Mode on WWE Day of Reckoning on the Gamecube.

Wind Waker on the ol' GameCube for me, alongside a little Prince of Persia on Switch.
Re: Opinion: Forget Themes, I Want A Switch 2 Start-Up Jingle
I rediscovered my GameCube and 3DS last year, and the nostalgia hits hard when the opening chimes hit.

Re: Japanese Game Creators Reveal Their "Top 20" Video Games Of 2024
@KrustyKoopa that's a shame but I get it. I've been on a retro binge the past year so it was looking crisp in comparison 😂
Re: Japanese Game Creators Reveal Their "Top 20" Video Games Of 2024
@KrustyKoopa have you played it? I've gotta say, while visually nothing special, it was incredibly fun to play 😄

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (26th October)
@TYRANACLES I remember being disappointed by X8, too. Especially since, as a Nintendo kid, it had been 2 years since No Mercy.
I'd say Day of Reckoning 1 is my favourite on the Cube for the gameplay and the storyline. Its sequel is a close runner up.
I played Def Jam Vendetta earlier this year for the first time and had a blast with it. Fight For New York is on my list to pick up down the road.
Have a feeling Ultimate Muscle may escape me.

More Echoes of Wisdom for me, too. My son started a play file today as well, and has been enjoying the puzzle solving (it's his first Zelda game).
Other than that, a couple of rounds of Wrestlemania X8 on the GameCube. Happy weekend, everyone!

Discovered an old Crazy Taxi disc for the Cube that I didn't remember owning. Plenty of arcade fun!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th September)
Just made it to the mines in Metroid Prime Remastered.
Also been playing around with Wrestlemania XIX on the Cube - arguably the most unique wrestling game there is with Revenge mode.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th September)
Making my way through Metroid Prime Remastered and loving it! Just picked up the Spider Ball power up.
Re: At Last, The Retro-Inspired 'Rugrats' Game Has A Release Date
Middle aged and with kids of my own, I can't help but feel tempted by this. Nostalgia mixed with some (hopefully) fun platforming.
