Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched Two Years Ago Today

Still on the fence. I have a preposterous backlog across three generations, and adding a new console isn't going to help. And the most enticing games I already have on the Wii U. But high quality mobile play is a serious tease, and I have a Visa gift card collecting dust...

Oh, the humanity.

Re: Rumour: Dataminer Uncovers SNES Games For Nintendo Switch Online Service

Still on the fence about buying a Switch, and we have every Nintendo console since the SNES (some multiple times). The way they're handling online and basically turning retro games into a rental service, I'm starting to lean toward a pass on this generation. I'm under no illusion that a company is in business other than to make money, but to so willfully and cynically milk their extremely loyal fans time after time is becoming pretty off-putting.

"...a continuous stream of revenue."

Keep buying single-player, story driven games and the industry will have to de-emphasize the cash cow of games-as-service. I personally loathe the concept. And single-player games have been repeatedly declared dead by game companies in an attempt to steer consumers to a higher revenue stream, lower effort product.

Thank god for God of War.

Re: Federal Government Is Officially Investigating Nintendo For Possible Patent Infringement

Hm. An awful lot of frantic water-carrying for Nintendo in these comments. absent any patent information itself. I don't know the sequence of filing or the validity of the case more than anyone else here, but it certainly isn't unprecedented for a large company to pirate ideas from smaller ones, then crush them with their sheer weight. Just because you love them, doesn't make them innocent.

That said, I doubt more will come of this than a settlement to make it all go away.
