Capcom has finished its E3 Showcase, and while the general consensus seems to be "really, that was it?", there was actually some exciting news for Monster Hunter aficionados.
The most important detail was that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is getting a demo, or 'Trial Version' as it's being called. It launches on 25th June and progress will carry over into the main game. In addition on 15th July (a little under a week after launch) the game will get a cool Palamute Monstie as a free update and tie-in with Monster Hunter Rise.
Rise also had a new trailer, which flew by so fast we had to re-watch to get details. The trailer below covers the 3.1 update; there's a Tsukino Palico Layered set on 18th June and then tie-in event quests and more on 25th June. Then on 9th July it'll detect your save data for Stories 2 and give you a 'Rider' Hunter layered armor set.
Let us know if you're planning to try out the new Rise content, and of course the Stories 2 demo when it arrives on 25th June!

I'm not planning to try out the new Rise content, and of course the Stories 2 demo when it arrives on 25th June!
Best part of their presentation for sure lol
MHS2 Demo was the announcement of the day for me. lol
And new event quests and rewards coming to Rise! YAY!
I'll definitely try the demo. Not sure on the game yet.
Lands Switch on soon?
Glad to see this, it will help while I wait for my pre-order.
Perhaps Capcom originally wanted to save the Monster Hunter Stories 2 reveal for E3. It would have been a fun surprise to see it announced here for the first time!
Like I assumed, just the crossover content announced for Rise, and I will definitely try out that Stories 2 demo! It's way too soon for a G Rank expansion to be announced.
There weren't any big surprises in the event, but hey, this one made me happy!
Oh yeah! Oh yeah!
I can't wait to finally try out MHS2 and see what it really looks like on gameplay. And nice collabs too.
I'm glad that it's getting a demo but god crapcoms "presentation" was pointless, infact the whole of E3 so far has been pointless and a bore fest. Time to move on from E3?
25th is insane. For month nothing interested me that came out. But on this day Tony Hawk, Mario Golf and this Demo drops.
This game looks gorgeous, but I just don't know if I can stomach the battle system. I thought about trying out Stories on 3DS again, but I think I'd rather just jump in with this demo and give it a fair shake. If I don't actively detest the battle system, it'll be a day one purchase for me.
I'm 30 hours into MHR - I still have questions, many questions - but I'm having fun. I've always wanted MHS2:WoR, and was hoping for a port of the first, but the demo will do nicely, so thankyouverymuch Capcom.
I also thought MHS2:WoR was July 25th so that's a nice 2 week early bonus for me, and an early birthday gift. 😊
@Ralizah Same for me. Battle worries me. Rest looks amazing.
Plenty of content for my tastes on both the Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney fronts! Best presentation I've watched/listened to so far. Which is saying something lol. Though I did hear Microsoft's was decent. Glad I skipped Ubisoft, and SE's was meh overall.
I'll maybe try it if I'm able to download any Switch games by then!
Actual pants! I was starting to think it was a sin for female hunters to wear pants in Kamura
I will try the demo as well
@Tyranexx
Microsoft/Xbox was pretty good, yeah. Not too keen on the other presentations. Ubisoft was underwhelming. Square was awful. Devolver was nice, but that wasn't an official E3 presentation and what I liked about it were all the gonzo and quirky theatrics around the actual game announcements, not the announcements themselves. So far, Microsoft's saving the expo. We'll see what Nintendo has for us tomorrow.
@Ralizah I don't know how much you advanced on the first game, but the battle system does open a bit more after some time. The biggest differences are gene modifications and the gauge allowing for combined attacks or commanding the monsters for specific attacks instead of always depending on their AI as long as you had enough filled energy. If you did reach that part then I doubt that you'll feel differently since it seems to be the same, but let's hope that it does manage to appeal to you.
Personally I really loved the combat system and found more challenge than in Pokemon games, specially on the DLC, but it was the PVP where it really shined. Using the hunting horn and traps was a blast.
@Beaucine The only thing that saved Square Enix's presentation, for me anyway, is that Guardians of the Galaxy looks like a very fun game; if I currently owned a platform it's coming to, I'd snap it up near launch. The rest of it was...very underwhelming. I was genuinely excited for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster announcement...until I saw the platforms. No problem with the announced platforms per se; why they're ignoring consoles, at least for the time being, is beyond me.
I'm expecting Nintendo to throw in a few surprises tomorrow, but I'll be going in with muted enthusiasm. I learned long ago that if I keep my expectations in check, the excitement payoff when something I like is announced is genuinely higher.
@roy130390 Only 10 hours or so. I wasn't really a fan of the rock-paper-scissors aspect of combat. It doesn't seem like a particularly robust foundation for a fun turn-based combat system.
If it’ll even download on my Switch. I can’t get anything to download at all. I’ve restarted it. I’ve taken the microSD out and put it back in while online. I’m not sure what to do.
@VR32X try deleting the wifi data on your switch and unplugging your router for a minute. Plug it in Then enter your wifi info again on the switch. Thats what worked for me after the last update messed up my system
@Ralizah It's quite simple at it's core, but it actually turned out to be more strategic than one thinks and much less RNG. It's the combination of every combat element that makes it more complex than it shows as the game advances. At the beginning there isn't much need to do strategies since most monsters don't hold a threat but as the game advances putting proper traps, healing and managing good attacks and elements become more important. It's still an "easy" game for the most part (Tower of Illusion was a good challenge) but at least it became way more engaging than the Pokemon games for me. Still, you could say that they kinda share the same difficulty problem (easy single player, challenging multiplayer) although I think this one does a better job in that regard and was much more fun to complete for me.
Yay for the demo! I’m already sold on the game (though I’m not a mainline MH fan, I loved the first MHS on 3DS), but I’m very much looking forward to trying it out before release anyway.
The mainline series doesn't do it for me but I kinda dig the Stories game. It looks cool, and I am one hundred percent sure my kids are going to love it, so I am defnitely downloading the demo and am probably getting the game at some point as well.
Played the first one for a bit, but the battle system was kinda boring. Basically it was Rock-Paper-Scissors where you had to guess what your opponent will use. There were certain patterns, but sometimes it was just hit or miss.
I really hope that they will come up with something better, because otherwise I personally wont give it a 2nd shot.
@Tyranexx
I agree with you. Guardians does indeed look great and it was clearly the highlight — though they also spent too much time on it during the presentation, relative to the other announcements. But it looks like a good mix of Mass Effect and modern Final Fantasy, plus the Guardians. I'm on board.
But then the presentation took a dive, between the Final Fantasy collection not coming to the Switch for some reason, and should-have-been-mindblowing footage of Babylon's Fall and Final Fantasy Origins that defused whatever hype had been building for either.
With you on subjecting ourselves to our own private expectation mind-game pre-Nintendo-Direct.
@Beaucine Agreed that, as cool as Guardians is, they spent a little too much time on it. With that plus Avengers, it seems like Marvel bought a majority of SE's time slot. There were other games in that brief montage near the end that I'd hoped they'd spend a minute or two on, such as Neo: TWEWY.
Yep, after that the presentation went downhill. Confusion about the lack of platforms for the Pixel Collection aside, Babylon's Fall didn't catch my eye, and Final Fantasy Origins...too much "chaos". XD
Nintendo Direct starts in a few minutes. Fingers crossed there's something for everyone!
Edit: Pretty decent Direct! I'm pleased with the content.
@Tyranexx
Agreed! I really liked the Direct, too. Well-paced presentation with plenty of bangers. Advanced Wars, SMT V, Metroid (!!), and BOTW 2 gameplay were the highlights for me. There's plenty to look forward to.
@Beaucine Well-paced indeed! BotW2, Advance Wars 1+2 (Been meaning to try the series), Metroid Dread (Woo!), the new WarioWare, and the Zelda Game & Watch were my highlights. That's the rest of my year settled!
