Re: Watch A Christopher Nolan Film In Fortnite's Party Royale Mode This Friday

@MarzipanD I’m pretty sure she was a pain in the ass on set due to diva-ish, incessantly neurotic behaviour, which apparently annoyed a lot of people at the time. I saw a documentary where Kubrick and other crew were clearly out of patience. She milked the attention seeking too much.

Her long-term mental deterioration had little to zip to do with Kubrick, though. I think @WallyWest needs to elaborate, because if he’s talking about Duvall, I’m pretty sure he’s mistaken. Duvall was already mentally ill, and her trajectory was governed by her own brain development/ deterioration—not Kubrick blanking her and telling her to do her job.

I may be wrong. But I do think the whole ‘Kubrick made Duvall crazy because he mentally tortured her on set’ is a movie myth, akin to, ‘the Joker killed Heath Ledger’.

Re: Nintendo To Cut Back On Mobile Games After Animal Crossing Success, Says Report

HappyMaskedGuy

I think the problem comes down to market relevance—in order to stay at the forefront of mobile gaming, Nintendo would need to employ more snide, disagreeable profit strategies, ie: lootboxes, simple, addictively manipulative style games, etc.

Doing so directly affects their image as a trusted, heavy hitting entertainment company. Remember, Nintendo are on track to stand on the same summit as Disney. They can’t be seen to be whaling in the polluted backwashes of the mobile market.

This is a long term gamble on their reputation. They are looking to create a billion dollar, premium brand. They are on track. Why risk it all for grimy wads of dubious mobile cash?

Re: Sword Of The Necromancer Kickstarter Suffers Heavy Blow From "Troll" Backer

@antdickens It was an example of victim blaming. Victim blaming is a prevalent problem in rape discourse. I was pointing out that such victim blaming, in any context, IS WRONG. My example is intended to clarify my point. To imply that I’m making light of rape victims is, frankly, vile.

How exactly is it inappropriate to talk about victim blaming culture, and mention rape, which forms a huge proportion of public discourse?

You know what? Fine. Remove it. Clean up the dirty words.

@nintendolife I’d like to know why you decided to change my wording from ‘raped’ to ‘assaulted’. That’s ludicrous.

Rape is not a dirty or inappropriate word. It is something that people shouldn’t be ashamed to talk about, and it shouldn’t be censored. How the hell is assault any more palatable than rape? Does rape make you blush? Cover your children’s ears?

Disgusting behaviour and a ridiculous decision.

Re: Nintendo Warns Of An Increasing Number Of Credit Card Fraud Reports, Offers Advice

HappyMaskedGuy

My paypal account was hacked about a week ago. Luckily they flagged a transaction of £400 (from Halfords, of all places) and prevented it happening. But still. Now I have updated all of my passwords, and changed my card. A royal pain the ass it all was too. 7 hours trying to call paypal, my bank, Halfords (who never answered).

The lesson? Individual, non-obvious passwords for every single account, changed every 6 months or so.

Re: "They're Burying Pokémons" Jibe During Chinese Coronavirus Tribute Causes Uproar In France

HappyMaskedGuy

@DinnerAndWine But they do slaughter 20 million dogs and 4 million cats every year for meat—animals raised in hellish conditions. Not to mention the Chinese government’s approval of using bear bile to treat Coronavirus— a ‘traditional’ chinese medicine treatment with zero evidence for effectiveness, and which causes the captive bears huge pain and distress from its extraction. And that’s just the tip of a very bloody terrible iceberg.

Don’t try to pretend that China is some kind of victim of misrepresentation. Infected wild animals might not be served in every household in China, but it’s certainly no myth.
