@westman98 Just you wait. It will creep up. So long as Nintendo has shareholders and people keep downloading and spending. Which they will. That’s the nature of gambling.
If you have this on your phone, please, for your own dignity— delete it.
This could very well lead to a fatal slide into overwhelming greed for Nintendo. Shareholders will smell blood, and will push hard for more and more of this. Anyone who thinks this won’t affect the company’s approach to their top-tier first party titles is kidding themselves.
Stop supporting this. It’s sugary junk designed to get you addicted. After all, there’s a reason that tobacco companies hand out free cigarettes to children in developing countries.
@Aerona Less talented artists or less resources do not equate ‘laziness.’
And by all means, demonstrate how easy it is to create original characters. You seem to think that decent animation just happens by itself. It does not.
@SpaceboyScreams Actually, no.
Cuphead is nothing like an ‘invention or song’. Cuphead did not invent the side scrolling shooter, nor did it invent cartoon visuals. It combined them.
There are countless ‘clones’ of games like Mario and Zelda. But their existence has zero ill effect on the original—if anything, clones only serve to highlight the high quality of the originals.
I am willing to bet that the Cuphead devs are actually impressed by this game, because they appreciate how muck work goes into creating new and unique characters and animations. Something which you obviously take completely for granted.
I think this looks really good. More games like Cuphead are a good thing.
The worst part of all this is parasitic tabloids like the Daily Mail and Sun (The Express, The Daily Star and other right-wing, working class papers are just as bad) taking real people’s grief and suffering and using it to sell papers.
A hardcore gamer for me is someone who plays a variety of high quality games to a high degree, as part of their lifestyle. Difficulty also plays a role.
FIFA is not high quality. By your definition a huge number of Candy Crush players would qualify as hardcore.
Most people who buy FIFA have almost zero interest in actual gaming.
Funny, I seem to remember Blizzard claiming that the Switch wasn’t powerful enough, and that to create and manage a Switch Overwatch would be far too much work for them as a company.
@pullmyfinger Clearly you’ve given zero consideration as to why micro-transactional games are never a good idea, or ever ‘free’, and thereby incur so much resistance by so many— myself included.
Stop trying to plug this crap. Mobile trash, no matter how you dress it up, is the active dismantling of real gaming.
Why not ask where the greatly needed updates and new DLC are for MK8? We PAID for that game. We deserve to be treated as priority. New cups? New characters? An updated multiplayer system?
Nah, too busy hunting whales in that vast, scummy mobile ‘blue ocean’.
This is nothing more than a glorified fruit machine. It’s ridiculous and insulting.
It’s a mobile game, so it doesn’t count. The fact that MK8 hasn’t received any decent DLC for years is a total joke. Give us a new cup, or Pauline, or whatever.
Also, stop with the click-bait style headlines NLife.
@rdrunner1178 Yeah, best protect those shareholder trust funds. To hell with the actual human beings who lost their livelihoods over pretty much nothing.
So long as Nintendo and Bandai can keep being money-buddies, right?
It’s weird how incapable you lot are of sympathising with real, actual people, and instead choose to side with soulless mega corporations that would think nothing of swatting you like flies if you presented anything like an obstacle to their pursuit of billions of dollars. These companies were not pushed into any kind of corner here. They had the capability of letting it go. To deny that is ludicrous.
These images were never intended to be viewed by the players. It looked to me like an innocent in-joke. They didn’t ‘steal’ anything. It wasn’t used for commercial gain.
Again: people make mistakes. There was literally nothing malicious in their actions, so why are you all so bloodthirsty and spiteful? It’s weird.
And as if any of you are bloody infallible or immune to dumb mistakes. Show some humility and empathy.
@TheDanslator They didn’t steal anything, for goodness sake.
Let me ask you this:
Could Nintendo have simply chalked this up to a silly mistake, taken it as the harmless joke it was, then given a stern warning to Next Level games, and humbly informed Bandai Namco of the situation with an apology?
Two million dollars and people losing their jobs and livelihoods over a few scans of a manga which players couldn’t even see is nothing short of excessive and draconian.
People make mistakes. It’s called being human. Nintendo could easily, EASILY afford to have just laughed it all off, leaving those involved appropriately, deeply embarrassed. Lessons learned.
@TheDanslator The art director was supposedly let go and Next Level was informed it had breached its contract. The North American version allegedly had to be pulled from production until the artwork was changed and Next Level was required to settle the situation with Nintendo for the sum of one to two million USD.
Sounds an awful lot like like a mega corporation throwing the little guy under the bus to protect its millions to me.
What a ridiculous kerfuffle over nothing. Although it should be pretty obvious not to use other companies’ assets without permission, this was blown way, way out of proportion.
@alpacatears I didn’t say it damaged their profits—at least not in the short term. But people buy videogame consoles to play videogames. The Wii, and Wii Fit, were initially popular. But look what happened afterwards. Nintendo became dependent on casual cash, and it killed their next console.
Casual gamers seldom stay. How many of those Wii grannies got stuck into Mario Odyssey?
If Nintendo want to sell to casuals, they can do that through smartphone apps. Leave the games consoles out of it.
@Damo And yet i bet you wouldn’t bat an eyelid booting up a violent FPS in front of said family members.
This isn’t about defending the game, which looks terrible. Most of us agree. But the reviewer spent more time being a sanctimonious, judgemental prude than an objective games journalist, and guess what?
Your audience have their own minds. We don’t need some overly ‘woke’ NLife freelancer to tell us what to be outraged about, or more importantly—what to be ashamed for enjoying.
This site is turning into the Guardian of videogame journalism.
@aznable I never once mentioned the term SJW. I don’t personally see the term as a slur. Technically I count myself as a fighter for social justice, so yeah.
That includes a hatred of any censorship—especially of basic human nature and sexual freedoms.
@nessisonett Videogames are a product of fantasy. Like all works of fiction, they allow people to safely enjoy otherwise dangerous or socially awkward environments, experiences and feelings, in a safe place that is free from any real harm. You telling me you’ve never enjoyed an FPS or a horror film? Aye, right.
By your logic we should also ban Fifty Shades and Outlander. Goes both ways.
Edit: Also, linking ‘sexy’ anime games to incidents related to the ‘MeToo’ movement is the same argument exploited by US conservative gun advocates who want to blame gun violence on video-games— a claim that has been debunked over, and over, and over again.
@nessisonett You clearly didn’t read my comment and consider my point.
The problem here isn’t the quality or the genre of the game. The problem is the reviewer’s ridiculous moral bias against boobs and thongs in games.
Nothing more. I’m not ‘dying on a hill’. I’m expressing an opinion. And please— keep your exaggerated hyperbole to yourself. Accusing me of ‘attacking’ someone is laughable. He’s a paid reviewer. Nobody is forcing him to sell this nonsense.

Re: UK Charts: FIFA 20 Stays Top Of The Table As Zelda: Link's Awakening Takes A Tumble
@carlos82 @nhSnork
I’m talking about the majority. FIFA, GTA, CoD etc always rise back up due to the sheer number of copies bought.
If you think more people bought Fire Emblem or Astral Chain than FIFA 20, you’re absolutely delusional.
Also, you failed to note my bracketed ‘gamers’.
I’m a UK citizen, and I despise those games. But I recognise that I am in the minority.
Re: Switch Is Getting An Officially-Licensed Mario Kart Racing Wheel
@FullMetalWesker MK64 is the second best of the series, easily. It’s multiplayer Battle Mode alone is eternally classic.

Why now? I don’t get it.
Re: UK Charts: FIFA 20 Stays Top Of The Table As Zelda: Link's Awakening Takes A Tumble

Embarrassing.

Death by committee.
Re: Rumour: The Sailor Moon Manga In Punch-Out!! That Allegedly Cost Nintendo Millions
@MsJubilee Sorry but I don’t speak idiot either
Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart Tour Is Certainly Dividing Opinion, But Why?
Not sure how anyone could celebrate a watered down, poorly developed, micro-transactional, mobile version of Mario Kart.
Here’s the facts:
If you download this, Nintendo will pursue more mobile games. Their resources will be invested in it if it makes returns.
If you throw fuel on a dumpster fire, it will burn even more fiercely. Don’t support this dross.

Re: Devs Make Big Bucks On The Switch eShop By Drastically Reducing Game Prices
There’s such a thing as a ‘race to the bottom,’ from which videogames are not immune.
It suddenly becomes less about passion projects, and more about minimal effort/ maximal profit ratios.
I’m all for supporting Indie Devs, but frankly, I’m well past done with the 2D retro revival. This trend seems set only to prolong it.
