Re: Activision Says It's Evaluating Additional Platforms For Crash Bandicoot 4

HappyMaskedGuy

@BenAV I didn’t like the Crash games even at the time. Always thought the platforming was poor, the level design was restrictive and overly basic, and the world and character designs were unoriginal and tacky. And Crash himself is just detestable—ugly and irritating as hell.

But that’s just my opinion. I’m sure I love lots of things that people could give good reasons for hating.

@HappyMaskedGuy True. But isn’t it patronising to treat people as if they don’t already understand that abusing people is wrong, and harmful? Isn’t that why they do it in the first place?

Also, isn’t it a bit holier-than-thou to preach to people? Isn’t this taking a privileged position of self-righteousness? Most people understand that such behaviour is wrong. To tar everyone with the same brush is surely deconstructive and hypothetical?

@happymaskedguy

I think you’re missing several important points. Regardless of whether it happens online via streaming, abuse is abuse. If it’s a crime in person, why shouldn’t the same rules apply online?

Also, women tend to suffer a disproportionate amount of abuse online, not least sexually. They should feel protected and confident enough to do what they want to do without worrying about bullies or harassment.

If a game helps to highlight those issues, and maybe get people to consider what they are doing wrong, isn’t that a good thing?

I’m really not sure how to feel about this.

Any kind of bullying is horrible. But when you choose to become a streamer, isn’t that par for the course? You are broadcasting yourself to the public. Expecting everyone to behave responsibly is pretty unrealistic. Better to learn how to ignore the words of said a**holes.

This feels patronising rather than helpful.

@Ajent That editing error is indicative of a whole attitude though.

It’s The Pokemon Company—one of the richest multimedia companies in the world. Not some 13 year old editing these videos.

At this point it’s clear they don’t have any interest or passion for what they are doing. They are now your typically lazy, greedy, cynical corporation, and for that, they can go straight to hell 😘
