A little while ago we reported on the European pricing for the rather extravagant (and slightly fiddly) Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC and Season Pass. There are separate passes for 3DS and Wii U, along with a supplemental character pack for those with the Wii U game that don't plan on buying the portable iteration.
Having clicked through from a Nintendo of America press release to the updated official website we saw the North American DLC prices, which we've now summarised below.
3DS
A 3DS-only season pass includes all four following packs and costs US$14.99 / CDN$21.19.
Late spring 2016: Master Wind Waker Pack - US$0.99 / CDN$1.39 solo
- 16 new My Fairy costume pieces
- The "Master" Wind Waker map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle scenario
Summer 2016: Link's Awakening Pack - US$6.99 / CDN$9.89 solo
- 16 new My Fairy costume pieces
- A new map for Adventure Mode with two new challenge battle scenarios
- A new playable character
- A new weapon for Linkle
Autumn 2016: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack - US$6.99 / CDN$9.89 solo
- 15 new My Fairy costume pieces
- A new map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle and two new challenge battle scenarios
- A new playable character
- A new weapon for Toon Link
Winter 2016: A Link Between Worlds Pack (DLC Pack 4) - US$6.99 / CDN$9.89 solo
- 15 new My Fairy Costumes
- A new map for Adventure Mode with one new adventure battle and two new challenge battle scenarios
- Two new playable characters
Wii U
A Wii U-only season pass includes the following three packs and costs US$9.99 / CDN$14.09.
Summer 2016: Link's Awakening Pack - US$4.99 / CDN$7.09 solo
- A new playable character
- A new weapon for Linkle
Autumn 2016: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack (DLC Pack 3) - US$4.99 / CDN$7.09 solo
- A new playable character
- A new weapon for Toon Link
Winter 2016: A Link Between Worlds Pack (DLC Pack 4) - US$4.99 / CDN$7.09 solo
- Two new playable characters
You'll notice that there are weapons for Toon Link and Linkle in Wii U packs 2 and 3 (Wii U doesn't get DLC pack 1). These can only be used if you've transferred the characters with Hyrule Warriors Legends on 3DS, or bought the following. You can get the characters without all the weapon options with the DLC Packs alone, however.
Summer 2016: The Legends Character Pack - US$12.99 / CDN$18.39 and not in the Season Pass.
- Includes Linkle, Skull Kid, Tetra, Toon Link, King Daphnes and Ganondorf's trident weapon. This option is suitable for those that aren't buying Hyrule Warriors Legends, which comes with a download code for these characters on Wii U.
Wii U and 3DS
All of the above in the Legends of Hyrule Pack Season Pass (minus Wii U-only Legends Character Pack) - US$19.99 / CDN$28.19
Summer 2016: Link's Awakening Pack - US$9.99 / CDN$14.09 (Wii U & 3DS combined)
Autumn 2016: Phantom Hourglass & Spirit Tracks Pack - US$9.99 / CDN$14.09 (Wii U & 3DS combined)
Winter 2016: A Link Between Worlds Pack - US$9.99 / CDN$14.09 (Wii U & 3DS combined)
As was the case in Europe, the best value option (if you have both versions of the game) is the combined season pass at US$19.99 / CDN$28.19, should you want all of the packs as they launch this year.
Are you planning to dive into the Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC?

Yep getting the character pack and the season pass.
as season passes go, that's not bad pricing. or maybe i've just been acclimatized to nearly full-game priced season passes on other platforms.
I want that Links Awakening Adventure Map on Wii U, dagnabit
So $60 for the 3DS game plus the combined season pass. I have to admit, the Wii U side of the season pass is a little lacking, and after spending $80 on the Wii U version, I'm feeling sliiiiiiightly ripped off. Ah well, I'm going to buy this game anyway; anything Zelda is an instabuy for me.
Looks good. I'll get this probably closer to the release of the first dlc.
Will the prices be staying the same for all of the old DLC that's been out for the past year? Does DLC ever go on sale? I never bought any of that but with a flood of new characters coming via the 3DS version, I am contemplating replaying the Wii U version; it was such a good game.
@Goob
And you guys were praising the contents on the Wii U version back then. Just because they added more contents on a downgraded port on the 3DS, you'll just have to forget everything and call it a ripoff?
I will only be getting the 3DS season pass since I don't own the Wii U version.
@Nintendofan83 sale used to be a dirty word on the eshop but lately, they've been opening up to the concept, just not so much with the dlc yet. the 'special price' of the season 1 pass for wii u probably makes them feel queasy already.
@DarthNocturnal I know brother it hurts. I cannot wait to get my hands on this still even with it being slightly more pricey in Canada.
That's not bad, I was expecting $19.99 USD for the 3ds season pass.
If only the prices here weren't so harsh here...was wanting to get a double season pass for a couple bucks more to give to someone, now I would have to be paying more for myself only...
I'll probably succumb to the urge to buy the character pack and season pass for Wii U...dang it, Nintendo.
I'll prob get the combined season pass makes more sense if you are planning on owning both versions.
I am hyped for the Link's Awakening stuff. I wonder what character it will be. Maybe Marin?
What a tire fire of a DLC plan. No reason I should have to get the inferior version of a game I already own to get the wind waker map.
I'm not sure whether to praise the 3DS DLC (all that for &15!) or be disappointed with the Wii U DLC (That's it for $10?).
I'm going to need to see some New 3DS footage of the game to make a decision. Is there going to be a demo?
Even though I won't be buying the 3DS version on launch (probably will pick it up cheaper later), I'll just go for the Wii U & 3DS combo.
@Splatburst By the time the 3DS game releases, I will have spent $140 on two versions of the same game, when I could have easily just spent $55 and get the full package. I originally didn't mind the Legends version as I assumed that the game would only have all DLC characters, not necessarily the entire season pass (along with extra content to boot). Legends for $40 has more content than the Wii U version plus the season pass for $80. Legends is a downgraded port, yes, but as every Nintendo fanboy argues, "Graphics don't matter".
Correct me if I'm misinformed about the 3DS version of the game, but from what I understand, I might as well not have bought the Wii U version at all if I'm getting even more content for cheaper price in the 3DS release. How is that not a rip-off?
@BensonUii The difference is that the original version of Twilight Princess right now costs $20 — the definitive edition costs more than that, and rightfully so. However, Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U eShop right now costs $60 without the season pass, and $80 with it. The (arguably) superior 3DS version, that includes the season pass and even more content costs $40, half of the Wii U price.
The problem is that the Wii U version STILL costs $60 without the season pass, and the fact that they're charging $40 for a version with a ton more content is kinda unacceptable.
@Goob
Because the Wii U version is still in the current gen and has not been offered as Selects. They also needed to sell the 3DS version. There's also difference on pricing between handheld and home console games (40$ vs 60$). Development cost is higher than porting cost. Etc etc.
@Splatburst It's not a difference between $40 and $60, it's between $40 and $80, if you want to get a comparable amount of content. And prices of current gen games drop all the time. Watch_Dogs is sitting at $20. Any Assassin's Creed game after about a year costs $20. Even the recently released Nathan Drake Collection is sitting at $30. Hyrule Warriors is more than a year old at this point, the Wii U version desperately needs a price drop, especially with what the 3DS version comes with.
How come there's no new levels for Wii U?
Played the demo on my japanese 3DS, it runs horribly on the regular 3DS, which means it will probably run decent on a freakin new 3ds, which means Ill just stick to the Wii U version
Where's my digital foam middle-finger......
Yeah I'll pass spent 80$ on dlc on the wiiu version, I'll use my money buy another game that won't get old the next day.
Especially when they are adding more to the 3ds then the main console.
Good thing this doesn't include Mexican pesos, that would've been depressing.
Obviously as I live in the UK I've known the pricing for a while! I'll get the Wii u and 3ds season pass (CROSS BUY ) As it's only a tiny bit extra in comparison to the 3ds only one, I plan to play the Wii u version sometime after the 3ds to enjoy the game in It's true HD, Big screen glory!
Also benefits me that way as I can play the new characters without replaying missions!
If I didn't have to waste money on the 3ds, I would've liked to get the DLC. I have no interest in purchasing a 40$ inferior game. O well, hopefully I can just link a friends 3ds to play as skull kid and linkle.
Yes
Is there any limit to how many Wii us the 3ds version to scan to?
Wait... are they not aware the canadian dollar is no longer worth .69 cents? I know the CAD$ is weaker but that's stealing at this point. The season pass should be 26$, not 28$
I have the Wii U version, and my girlfriend is getting the 3DS version. Does anyone know if it is or will be possible to take advantage of the free content for Wii U with a copy of the 3DS version using a different NNID?
@Goob
Don't compare Ubisoft prices because we all know Nintendo don't slash their prices until they release the "Nintendo Selects" version. That's why if you want to buy a Nintendo game (digitally), it's better to buy at launch instead waiting for 2-3 years for a sale or permanent price drop. On the other hand, it's the reverse reason why some of us who can wait, wait for Ubisoft games a few months after launch to go on sale. Same on Steam, gamers just wait for Steam sale before they buy a game. It's a good business strategy in Nintendo's part if you ask me.
With that out of the way, let's go to pricing between 3DS and Wii U. A typical retail Wii U game is 60$ or 60€. A 3DS game is 40/45$ or Euros. I believe Hyrule U is 50€ (not sure about US) and not 60€, plus season pass (20€?). Hyrule Legends 3DS is a packaged of the Wii U game and its season pass, thus it's 40€. They can't price it more because you know, Nintendo set a pricing on their 3DS games to 40-45€ max (season pass/DLC aside).
So yeah, it's a fair price imo because they are only following their pricing structure for each platform. They're not ripping us off. BUT, I agree with you that they should reduce the cost of the Wii U version now (or soon). I'm actually waiting for a sale so I'll download the Wii U version. I can easily get the disc version for 25€ new on my local store but I prefer digital downloads on games I want to keep.
@Splatburst That's actually my main gripe, that the current Wii U version is far too expensive for what it's worth. I actually really don't mind that the 3DS version has all the dlc and that it's cheaper (as it should be, due to that it's a portable), but the Wii U base game needs a price drop to $40 at the very least.
@burninmylight You get a redeem code! you can use that one code on any Id, but it sticks to that Id, so if she gave you the code you will get the content, but won't be able to share it with anyone unless they use the same console.
@Splatburst very true. But I'm still overly displeased with Hyrule Warriors Legends for one reason. It's ridiculous that they are selling the 3ds version as the only way to get the characters for Wii u. So basically; if you were foolish enough to buy it early or wanted to play it in HD, you have to fork down 100$. There's no reason for this at all except to squeeze another 40$ out of your wallets. In that way it's a complete cashgrab. They need to make it so that you can download the season packs on any version without wasting money on literally the same game. The only reason to pick up both versions I suppose is for on the go I suppose, but it's not worth it imo
I'll be absolutely buying the season pass for both my Wii U and 3DS. This game has taken hundreds of hours to get far into and I'm excited for the extra stuff coming!!!
@Undead_terror
YES! Thank you for that info! Her NNID is also on my Wii U, so even if I have trouble redeeming it on my account, we can just switch over to hers and do so. Either way, I'll be getting free DLC.
@RandomBlue
You can get the characters on the Wii U with some weapons through the Wii U's second season pass without buying any of the 3DS version.
@burninmylight YEEEEEE!, have fun!
@Splatburst Oh really? From what I had understood, you had to purchase the 3ds to unlock Wii u bonus content
@RandomBlue
There's a season pass for both but there is also "Legends characters pack" for the Wii U and a separate season pass for weapons (not sure). Check the previous article again or go to the Nintendo site. It's a bit confusing.
I want the clock/compass so I now have an unplayable region locked game.
I'm glad for humanity sake they listed The Legends Character Pack for Wii U for Summer. With the IQ and patience of certain people online, they would go on ebay and pay more than that. Just like the retail preorder skins.
Guess I'm putting aside $19.99 (plus tax) for the full blast.
I might just buy Legends for the download code to get the characters for my Wii U version, then sell Legends to someone who doesn't have a Wii U anyway. It'll probably work out to be significantly cheaper then buying the character pack.
I might be interested in the character pack and season pass for Wii U, but then I probably should pick up the first season pass beforehand. But since My Nintendo is still no where to be found here....
@RandomBlue there's no eshop linking or anything like that, the 3DS version simply comes with a code to download the "legends character pack" for free (which can only be redeemed once)
All the WiiU content (including that character pack) can be purchased separately too.
@burninmylight the 3DS game comes with a code to download the Legends Character Pack, no linking or NNID stuff needed.
In the case you mean the 3DS+WiiU season pack, you'd just need to add your gf's NNID to your WiiU and her dlc should be usable by everyone in the console, I think. Or at the very least her own profile.
This Wii U Season Pass is complete separate from the Wii U Season Pass I already purchased before, correct?
Can anybody explain me the difference between the Wii U-only season pass and The Legends Character Pack? which one should i buy? i own the wii u game and not planning to get 3ds game
@Meowpheel
Thanks for the tip, mate!
