Switch has plenty of smaller and Nindie games. I'm literally drowning in them. But none of them really stand out to me and none are that great so far tbh. I was discussing GotY contenders with friends two days ago and all I came up with was Octo Expansion. Doesn't mean there weren't many games releasing on Switch but none have had the lasting impact or quality Octo Expansion had imho.
I think a major mistake for em was to focus so damn much on Smash. If you look at how many games they showed off in that compilation, they could've easily showed off more of each of them and been like 'Look at DBFZ! Look at Ark Survival Evolved! Look at Octopath! Look at Valkyria Chronicles 4!' but nah. Let's brush em off like they were nothing but go into every tiny little Detail how each and every fighter in Smash changed!
@Peterjr1 Thanks but I'm aware of that. Since Playground is something entirely unique and more or less training grounds, I just thought they'd keep it around. But hey, at least they will eventually.
I'd rather buy my games and not be pestered for dem money every turn I take. But it is very apparent I am in the minority there, at least in the mobile gaming community.
@Indielink Ah yes, my bad, I'm not wearing my glasses whilst at home.
(Puts on glasses) Oh hey, it looks even worse. 😉
Do note please that the graphical downgrades do not mean it's a bad game. Portable Crash is awesome, no doubt about it. But at home, I'd vastly prefer the PS4 version.
@JaxonH My point is not so much to say 'Oh, it's a remaster therefore it should sell badly' but moreso that the fact that no other physically released Switch game has outsold Crash. Sure, we've just began the second half of 2018 but this year's been severly lacking in heavyhitters. That is the sad part.
But it is nice to see a third party doing as good as it is in the UK of all places.
@JaxonH Yes, it sold soooo many copies. Which is great. We'll get a new Crash. But a remaster, no matter how good, being the bestselling Switch game in the UK this year, is sad imho. It just goes to show how utterly barren and empty it's been in terms of physical software.
The remasters of a two decades old Trilogy that released last year on the leading console of this generation is the best selling Switch game of 2018 in the UK. This is sad!
Honestly, it looks pretty bad compared to the PS4 Version. Gross even. I can't remember Cortex looking so gross. Especially the lighting is absolutely pitiful. And whatever they did to Tiny's and Polar's fur is unforgivable.
But hey, portable Crash.
This was a one in a lifetime event. You just don't do something like that. At least I was playing Squads my pals and could see it through spectating one of them.
@Azzdama Fortnite is the biggest game there is atm. They get more than enough cash as is. And I don't really care for the cosmetics it has because I'm a faceless character I can't relate to, unlike something like Overwatch where you have plenty of characters to relate to.
@MrPerson0 Games re-use Assets, let alone game engines, all the time to cut down on dev time and costs. And guess what? They often come out as vastly different experiences. Majora and New Vegas have already been pointed out to you. Do you call these games ports as well?
But sure, Aces is re-using Marina Stadium and a buncha assets. However, has Ultra Smash featured all those other characters and stages? A true online experience? An Adventure Mode for crying outloud? No! So how we're even coming close to calling this a port is beyond me. Since ports are very often 1:1 experiences nowadays and often only include some adjustments and additions like Tropical Freeze or Hyrule Warriors.
@R4z0rGr1nd3r A. Rude B. I have not stated fact but opinion. C. I'd rather buy a game and don't have microtransactions shoved in my face at every turn (yes, I'm a rare kind, I know). D. Yes, mobile games can be fun. I'm not saying they can't be. I'm not saying that because of graphics. I'm saying it because mobile games' microtransactions are usually pretty invasive to the enjoyment of games. At least in my opinion. But I am free to let my opinion be changed by a review of the game.
Calling this a Port Plus of Ultra Smash is like saying Power Tennis was a Port Plus of Mario Tennis for the N64. This is a Tennis game. You can't really change the gameplay all that much.
@Alber-san So you either go where everyone goes (i.e. Tilted) and get killed more or less immediately or you avoid conflict by going somewhere off path (and get just as good loot) but walk for miles. So you either get frustrated or bored out of your mind. I don't get it. It's just not my cup o tea, I guess.
@mazzel I'm told PUBG is even slower than Fortnite. Seriously, have the map be a quarter of it is, give the players hover Boots and Speed Jumps and so on to give them Mobility and we'd have an action packed Battle Royale game that ain't the usual the stuff.
Wake me up when we get Save the World on it. Battle Royale has too much of walking from place to place with it only getting exciting once you do meet people.
It certainly doesn't take Splatoon's place in my heart.
A 9? Well, I'm certainly surprised. This friday's gonna be great between Aces, this and BlazBlue. Not to mention that big Minecraft Update on Thursday! Exciting week!
Nintendo in 2018. Couldn't be bothered to do online play proper in a flippin Mario game. At least tell us why you continuously choose to ignore our demands for online play.
I'd be down for that. Because really - with this much content, you'd inevitably have to cut down on it.
Now what I could see happening is this version receiving content updates every now and again for ... basically the rest of eternity. Just port it whenever a new console arrives with all the contents added thus far. I can't see graphics getting any better as they already are so that shouldn't be an issue.
@DToad64 No Problem. Also you heard correct. Thing is though, all clones have had non-cosmetic things that made them different to their counterparts. Of course, some more than others.
@DToad64 Remind me if it has been clarified before but to me Echo seems like a prettier word for clone to me.
Also clones ain't taking up slots. They're literally just the cherries on top of your SSB sundae.

Re: Review: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)
A quite charming albeit short experience imho. Perfect for playing on the bus or the train. Definitely picking it up for Switch.
Re: Review: All-Star Fruit Racing (Switch)
You could say this game is a (not) bad apple.
I see myself out...

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th July (Europe)
You almost gave me a heart attack with that Okami listing. Getting Rumbow and Limbo as well as Inside from last week.
Re: A Free Demo Of WarioWare Gold Is Available To Download Right Now
A Wario Ware game on Switch with online multiplayer, that's be nice.
Re: Random: People Are Making Mario Kart Courses In Fortnite's Playground Mode
That is incredibly creative! All I did was completely destroy the burger restaurant at Greesy...

Re: Fortnite's Playground Mode Is Finally Up And Running Again After A Week Of Trouble
@MasterJay Makes sense, I guess. Haven't been online due to work but are they upfront about it in-game? Because if not, they should do so.

Urk, sorry had something in my throat there.

@nayfz I certainly hope so. This year just has been a desert when it comes to major third and first party releases (on all consoles imo).

I refuse to invest money in this.
Re: Fortnite's 'Playground' Mode Is Imminent, Set To Offer A Very Different Way To Play
I'd say Fortnite is a basic enough concept that you don't really need a tutorial. Plus, it's like any shooter. You grow with experience.
Re: Random: Yoshi Gets Cut From The German Box Art For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
I hate how big that thing is. Do these kids have 80 years olds for parents?

Wait, since when was this to come out next week? I thought it was this week and already pretty excited about it.
Re: Tactical RPG Squids Odyssey Is Swimming Towards A July Release On Switch
Is this the long rumoured Super Mario Sunshine-DLC to both Splatoon 1 and Super Mario Odyssey?
Re: Review: Mario Tennis Aces (Switch)
@Mqblank He was sarcastic to point out how ridiculous Aces being called a port simply because it reuses some assets and Marina Stadium really is.

If those weren't NES games but a more varied offering console-wise I'd be happy. But you can't attract anyone with the same NES games we always get.
