The Game Bakers has announced that its underwater RPG Squids Odyssey will be finding a new home on Switch on 5th July.
The game is a tactical turn-based RPG, taking place under the sea where a murky black ooze is turning once-friendly crustaceans into cranky monsters. With their realm under siege, a scrappy shoal of Squid heroes has no choice but to fight back. Players can expect to find a jaunty art style, quirky dialogue, and cheerful music, all adding some fun and colour to what is said to be a "challenging tactical RPG experience".
Hero classes, stat-boosting helmets, power-ups, and the levels' environment add a strategic element to the role-playing gameplay, with 90 missions available equating to around 15 hours of gameplay. The Pro Mode, with completely redesigned missions, doubles the challenge, too.
The Creative Director of the game, Emeric Thoa, has said the following about the game's new release on Switch:
“While working on Furi for the Switch, we kept thinking that Squids would be a perfect fit for the console. You can use the touch screen or buttons and sticks, the format is perfect to enjoy the dialogues, the art shines on the small screen but you can also blast it full scale on a big TV, and you can take your game anywhere. We didn't know it then, but the game was actually designed for the Switch! This is definitely our best version so far.”
We thought the game was great on Wii U and 3DS, giving it a very healthy 8/10 in our review. Hopefully it really will shine on Switch, too, as suggested above.
Did you play this one on 3DS or Wii U? Will you be exploring its watery depths for the first time on Switch? Let us know with a comment down below.

Too cute for my taste.
Need to see a review on this but it has my interest. Need a light hearted rpg every once in a while.
I bought this game for my iPhone in 2011. It only cost $1.
Is this the long rumoured Super Mario Sunshine-DLC to both Splatoon 1 and Super Mario Odyssey?
@Spoony_Tech NL did a review of it, it's mentioned at bottom of the article for the WiiU version more than likely this will be like that version.

@Agramonte It's about what I expected between a 7 and 8. Throw out the 3 it got and it sits well.
@dougphisig Thanks for the heads up. Didn't read that far down.
D'awww this looks adorable!
@Spoony_Tech yeah, the 3 is rubish. And sure it get cleaned up a bit so more to the top-end score on switch. Just to give a general idea of game play.
Turn-based are good for on the go.
@Nincompoop Only if it was a big sale or launch sale (it's $4 now in the iOS App Store), and I'm betting you are talking about the original game, "Squids", not the Squids Odyssey which is the combination of that game, a sequel (Wild West or something) and altogether "refreshed". But, yeah, it has origins as a relatively well-regarded mobile game and an example of using touch mechanics applied to more involved game play for dedicated gamers.
Any discounts for people who bought it on both 3DS and Wii U ?
Great iPhone game and then bought it on the WiiU. Doesn’t seem like there is a reason to buy it again.
I’m a sucker for any game starring squids... but I already played through both of these on iOS and don’t need to again, all it adds is one chapter, and I mean it was a pretty good phone game but I don’t really get phone games on my consoles...
Not a very good game, and it was buggy as hell on the Wii U.
The original SQUIDS for mobile came out late 2011, so I'm hoping all the additions and refinements over the years are going to show in this version.
It's a beautiful game, so it it really ought to play just as nicely.
@aaronsullivan It's an Angry Bird ripoff with RPG element, not really that innovative. For an iOS game 7 years ago it's great but now... meh.
I reviewed the Wii U version with a 9/10 back then. Couldn't stop playing until I found and cleared everything.
I remember the 3D effect in the 3DS version was also very nice.
I don't get the mobile phone vibes. For me it was underwater-Fire Emblem with crazy fun gameplay and beautiful animaion.
