At the start of this month, it was revealed James Marsden had signed on to the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie.
Now, there's another recent update about Sonic's silver screen debut, courtesy of Paramount chairman and CEO, Jim Gianopulos, with a brief description of the blue blur's personality:
He’s a juvenile delinquent on adventures in a pretty straight rural environment with a local policeman. It was instantly engaging and it was good enough where you could see where it’s going.
So, how are you feeling about the Sonic The Hedgehog movie after reading this? Do you think this film containing live-action and computer-generated animation has any chance of succeeding, or is it already doomed to fail? Tell us in the comments below.

What a load of garbage just on the face of it. Why can't they just do Sonic in Sonic's world with Sonic's friends and enemies and . . . It's not like this is rocket science.
Was his crime speeding?
3D rendering Sonic in Real world ?
Or something like Enchanting from Disney ?
Umm why are they doing this Film again? This has brought my hopes for this film being good from pessimistic to flatout zero.
Great, so this is going to be emo, moody, snarky, annoying, attitude-laden Sonic, is it? Sounds like a great set-up... arrrggghhhh...
Some characters need the Disney Pixar or similar to spend loads of money on and make a proper 3d movie, otherwise you end up with an average cartoon.
This is going to be terrible.
First of all, they should focus on the games XD
Are they saying that Sonic is gay? Otherwise why bring up the fact that the rural area is basically all straights lmao
Sounds like this movie will be about as good as all the recent 3d Sonic games.........
This is some how making Sonic 06's plot look like a better movie for Sonic... I won't be seeing this garbage.
@samuelvictor This is the best your ever going to get https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxhMYk_xljQ
They will always find a way to make a bad film/story with Sonic.
@gloom not sure if you're joking, obviously referring to the place being straight edge. Y'know, normal, sedate, by the books. If you were joking, my bad
Not gonna lie. This might kill the franchise.
@NinjaWaddleDee : SEGA's done a fantastic job doing that themselves.
I downloaded Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics for free via the Mario Kart 8 free game promotion and I still felt ripped off.
@MajorasLapdog Yeah I didn’t know what they were meaning by “straight” but now I do thanks haha
Not for my kids. They don't need any help getting derailed these days. As for me, not even vaguely interested.
Good job Sega!
@Anti-Matter Enchanted does 2D animation in a 2D world and 3D animation in the real one. Based on te description, this will blend 3D models to real world. Sounds like an average film that needed to be done 20 (with whatever tech at that time) Was going to flop then, it will fail now as well.
@Francema
Well...
We will see after the movie released.
I'm not a fan of Sonic, so.... whatever happened i don't really care.
Why do movies based on children's entertainment always has this cliche idea of bringing or having the characters to the ''real world''?
They did this with Looney Tunes, various Hanna-Barbera properties, and Woody Woodpecker and they were all unspeakable abominations.
Now,apparently a new Monster Hunter film by the guy who made the Resident Evil movies will be doing it in this way as well.Just fantastic.
Does anyone remember how incredibly awkward Sonic '06 was because it had these cartoon anthropomorphic animals interacting with realistic humans beings and even other animals?
I see SEGA has found new ways to uh, demolish Sonic's image.
@Elvie I didn't find it awkward, it's not much different from how it works in the Pokemon series. The human models in 06 just had an ugly "realistic" design. In Sonic Adventure the models have a simpler anime design and they look fine. I never thought it felt out of place at least.
But I always disliked that about 06, it would have been so much better if they hadn't gone and ruined Eggman. Which sucks too since some of his better lines are from that game.
@AlienX Did you at least find it weird for Sonic going on a side quest to locate a normal dog for some kid?
@Elvie Ah, y'mean Pele the Beloved Dog? Though I guess not so beloved in the Sonic fanbase. Yeah it is weird, albeit I've seen that level of weird in the Olympic games, what with Sonic riding horses and all.
06 is an all-around strange experience but it's dang memorable to say the least.
Oh no!
Who?! What?! When?! Where?! How?! Why?!
I have as much hope for this as I have for any other Sonic game besides Sonic Mania.
That description makes it sound they are going to try to pull another edgy 2cool4school Sonic we've learned to hate.
@NinjaWaddleDee Oh, I definitely see this, as well as other factors like the bad side of the fandom (which is quite a huge majority now, sadly!) and Sega of Japan's incompetence will finally mean the end of Sonic. Sega of Japan may not see it, but it's basically written on the walls now. There's no salvaging Sonic now, and SoJ, the fans and these movie folks don't see it.
