As you've probably already noticed, video games are all the rage in Hollywood right now. Sonic the Hedgehog is flying high, Halo just got its own television series, and later this year Super Mario will be getting an animated movie.
Of course, talks have popped up about what other Nintendo franchises could be adapted to the big screen, and one that's come up time and time again is the fantasy series The Legend of Zelda. Recently, a TikTok went viral about model/actress Hunter Schafer playing Princess Zelda in a live-action movie, based on what she wore to a Vanity Fair party.
While there's been no official word on if we'll ever see a cinema project like this, Schafer has now actually responded to this video at a red carpet event for the HBO series Euphoria, stating how she would love to do it:
"Wow, I mean yeah, that would be cool...like an elf and I played that video game a bunch when I was a kid, that's such a good game."
Again, she's up for it...and she's clearly played at least one of the games growing up - so she could definitely channel her own Zelda experiences in the role.
What do you think though? Reckon Schafer would be a good fit for a project like this? Leave your own thoughts down below.

....Zelda should play Zelda instead...
You know, just for the lulz.
When people call Zelda an "elf".
She’s pretty perfect for the role to be fair. If they ever did a movie then she’d be a great choice.
@VoidofLight And when the same people call a videogame a video.
Look Zelda is one of those things that seem like it will make a great movie but in all reality would be pretty bad.
@VoidofLight Yeah, I grimaced pretty hard at that, lol. We shouldn't expect everybody to have the same knowledge about a hobby others don't take nearly as seriously as we do, but man...it still hurts.
I honestly don't know who this lady is, but she does seem to have a decent enough resemblance, I guess.
@blindsquarel I think it can be done--it just takes the right person to do it justice.
Really not interested in whatever Hollywood’s cooking up anymore (or the ramblings of randoms on TikTok).

I don't think a movie would be good to be honest, if they want to do something with the franchise, a mini-series would be the way to go. There's a huge amount of lore of Hyrule available, and a 2 hours movie wouldn't even scratch the surface of that.
@Silly_G I feel exactly the same way. I’ll pass.
I’m fine with never having a Zelda movie
Who? And no, just no. And if you are listening Nintendo, please ignore.
@VoidofLight I feel called out, because I used to say this Lmao.
It’s not like a movie couldn’t work, it just needs to be done a specific way.
Zelda needs to be an incredible CG movie…in the same class as Lightyear or something like that. No live action Nintendo movies please!
@MoonCabin It should be a 2D animated film by Studio Ghibli.
Earwig and the Witch was heavily limited in its visuals by being a made-for-TV special and as their first film, but it still looked miles ahead of most CGI anime out there, that was made by people with actual experience in CGI.
It would even be better if Toho (who co-produced Detective Pikachu, the Sonic movies, the Mario movie, the Monster Hunter movie, as well as most of Universal's recent films, including Illumination's films) would somehow get the rights to make a Super Smash Bros. crossover movie.
Is she the real life pornstar one from that show? That's about my extent of knowledge on the matter.

Oh god no. I mean I'd take this over Brie Larson Samus but uhh yeah nope, we don't need any naughty scenes in Zelda please
So she essentially wants to be cast in a remake of "Legend"
@SteamEngenius @FroZtedFlakerZz She did voice acting in a PG anime film called BELLE.
She isn't destined to be in 18+ films and shows only.

The film industry is dying i really hope they don't stain another IP.
@Hydra_Spectre That's very true and I was thinking a little too fast, there's a chance she'd be a great actress for it. But the thing is, after this Euphoria show that's seemingly exploding in popularity right now, that is what the actress is going to be known for for at least a while. While I guess I wouldn't care if she did a good performance, I could see the fan community lashing out after a casting choice like that.
Edit: I agree a studio ghibli type thing could be lit too
I don't know this person, but she doesn't look like she could act Zelda at all.
HAHAHAHA NO.
Keep Hollywood far far away from Zelda.
Especially someone related to a show that glamorizes substance abuse.
I can absolutely see her in the role, but I remain apprehensive about Zelda being adapted to a major film. Zelda could work as a short series though.
@Juma009 So is Hunter Schafer.
@blindsquarel I agree with that, but it would be an incredible anime, convince me otherwise.
I dont know about a live action movie...
Legend of zelda is perfect for a anime series/movies. Loved the mangas (read all of them)
Something like this smashbros cutscene.

Not sure that I necessarily want a tloz movie/show, but she's far from the worst pick they could go with for Zelda and seeing a trans actress play her would be cool!
Why does it matter if she’s trans or not?
Can she do the job? Put her in.
Is she unfit for the role? Find someone else.
The identity is the least important variable. It’s only skin deep.
Zelda is not really about plot or characters or even action but the feeling of exploring and solving puzzles. Can't see a movie doing it justice at all.
I'd prefer we let video games be games.
Does.... does she think there was only one Zelda game??
I've never watched Euphoria (no shade but I feel like at my age if I streamed it I'd end up on a list of some sort!) but from a quick google, I like what I read about Ms Schafer, she seems cool, and I can certainly see the resemblance in that specific outfit hair and makeup.
The fact Euphoria is a very "adult" (read edgy teen) show doesn't stop her being in family friendly fare. As far as I'm aware, the lead character is Zendaya who's done a bunch of projects for Disney and she's still absolutely doing an incredible job in the MCU in arguably their most "aimed at kids and young teens" entries.
I wasn't too bothered by referring to Zelda as an elf but saying "I played that game a bunch as a kid" made me wonder if she thinks the only Zelda game is BOTW 😅 To be fair, even if she knew NOTHING about the franchise she shouldn't be criticised for that - she didn't ask for this role or put herself forward for it, she was ambushed on a red carpet about fans suggesting she should play the role.
[edit] haha post directly above beat me to it on the "only one game?" point!
All I know is that I read the part of the title that says, "Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer", and not knowing what any of that meant I thought, "WOAH, Euphoria Star Hunter" sounds like the coolest job description EVER!"

She does kinda look like Twilight Princess Zelda already
She does have that 'otherwordly' quality that would make her a great fit for any fantasy series (and I mean that as a great compliment).
@samuelvictor Zendaya is in Euphoria and she is also in PG films like the MCU Spider-Man films, Denis Villeneuve's Dune, The Greatest Showman, and Smallfoot.
Hunter Schafer is a Euphoria star and she was also in the English dub of Belle, a PG Mamoru Hosoda anime film.
@SteamEngenius No she's not, although there were actually a few that were in that show, from what I know of.
I would rather have someone who loves the franchise than someone who thinks it would be 'cool'. 'Played it a bunch' just means she's heard vaguely of it lol. Besides, a Zelda film would be a massive mistake. It's a very special video game for reasons that I don't think would translate very well to celluloid. Maybe they should do Star Fox.
Zelda should be an animated property. Not everything translates well to humans in costume
I could see her in the Green Tunic welding the Master Sword and saving the Princess. It is 2022!
@BloodNinja
She doesn’t resemble the character to me. I don’t mind progressive casting, but this one is too left field. Nintendo wouldn’t do it anyway.
Physically I could see her as Zelda, but I haven't seen the show and have no idea if she has the acting ability. Also not really sure LOZ needs to be a movie or a show. Great games don't necessarily translate to great viewing.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure this is going to happen, now that Detective Pikachu, Sonic and the Witcher have all succeeded as live action media. Hollywood loves to chase after the Next Big Thing, and now that superheroes seem to be on the verge of oversaturation I suspect video games are the NBT.
@Hydra_Spectre Yes, that was my point, though perhaps I didn't word it clearly. I was attempting to say that the people thinking that someone who was in Euphoria shouldn't be allowed to be in a family film should note that the main star of Euphoria is very successful in family films, so its a non-arguement.

She's a good actress and i could easily see her in the role but i don't want a Zelda film at all, honestly Zelda should just stay a VG in my opinion.

@kurtasbestos Knowing nothing about any of this I had a similar problem. I thought the full name of the person in question was Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer.
Yes yes! All the yes!
@Hydra_Spectre 100% agree! If they do a Zelda movie I would rather it be animated, and by Studio Ghibli. No thank you to Live Action.

She would play an awesome Twilight Zelda! Her acting and many things she's worked on are amazing! Love Hunter!
But I'd rather have Zelda be animated instead of live action.
I'd like to play Zelda in a movie too, will NLife do an article on me? I'm even an actual fan of the franchise!

@Deady
Honestly, me too 😅
I don’t think Zelda would work as a movie. Zelda games are light on plot compared to other adventure games.
What I don’t understand about Hollywood is that there is a video game series that would translate perfectly to film. Metal Gear.
Why is there no Metal Gear film?
Isn't Zelda supposed to be Asian? Just sayin'...

@ThePizzaCheese She has blonde hair and blue eyes, usually. And she was a redhead in the NES games.
Though you can probably get one of the BLACKPINK members as Zelda, just pray that people won't criticise it for having a diversity recast.
Would love a Horizon Dawn movie (done right). Have seen rumors but nothing more.
@ThePizzaCheese nope. It's usually a White female that plays this role as it is going off European high fantasy. However this doesn't mean it can't be played by any other race or nationality.

Or they could stop trying to get a live action film. The only good live action Zelda film that could have worked was the IGN trailer from 13 years ago, and that was an April fools joke, and yet somehow still looks good today when compared to things like, I dunno, the Halo series on Paramount?
The only way I could see a live action Zelda somehow working would be if it were handled by Guillermo del Toro. His visual style would be perfect for something like this. Pan’s Labyrinth for example. The cast is gonna have to be thought out carefully, and Hunter Schafer would not be my first pick, but I guess that’s a hypothetical cast anyway.
I'd rather leave live action to the fan made projects. If a movie ever is made, I lean more towards CGI like Breath of Wild/Age of Calamity or hand drawn anime like the Link's Awakening. Regardless of what style the movie gets. As long as the studio cares, the director is passionate, and a cast and crew has effort. They can succeed. Also it doesn't feel good to be denied a chance because of blind skepticism does it?
@Roibeard64 @WallyWest Zelda is already more then a video game series. Look at the Manga and cartoon. Zelda doesn't need to limit themselves and waste potential.
