In before Nintendo fanboys claim its better than Minecraft simply because its on a Nintendo platform. Still surprised a game that rips off as much as this is actually allowed to be sold.
Geonjaha suggests that Nintendo never cared about Virtual Console in the first place. When was the last time we got anything from the VC on the 3DS? 5 months ago? Yeah.
@PaperMario64 - Good for those people who find it fun, but if they're doing it for fun they don't need Nintendo's program in the first place do they, because they wouldn't be putting ads on the videos to make money? They'd be idiots if this was their job and they decided to cut their paycheck in half just to play some Nintendo games, but I suppose that's how far brand loyalty gets people.
Also, just to get this point out of the way for anyone who doesn't like the fact that YouTubers can make money from showing games. A large majority of companies accept it, and allow it to happen, because they understand that it costs them nothing, and benefits them. If a company like Nintendo puts in a system like this, good YouTubers who actually dedicate their time to make this their career simply wont play their games. It's not because they 'hate Nintendo' or 'are greedy' - it's because it's their freaking job. I can only imagine that many of the people fighting against this are completely unfamiliar with the concept, or are jealous that these people have managed to make a career not only out of what they love to do, but out of what millions love to watch them do.
You personally disagreeing with these people having their jobs is irrelevant. Stop being petty. Just because Nintendo's current stance supports your misguided views doesn't mean they're making the right choice as a business. The take home message here is that YouTubers who actually matter for the most part just wont play Nintendo games. Nintendo loses coverage, gets bad press, and shows that once again that they have very little understanding of these things. They're making the wrong decision. Just because they're inadvertently supporting your prejudices doesn't change that.
I love Nintendo, and I love playing their games. That doesn't prevent me from calling them out when they make a bad decision. Pretending Nintendo did this for the same ideological reason behind you hating YouTubers is just laughable. They're a business - they did this because they assumed it was the right business move to make. They were wrong.
"The argument's been made that this will encourage a wave of new Nintendo-centric video creators"
Well then its a pretty idiotic argument isn't it? All that has changed is that people now need to pay money to Nintendo for the privilege. They get no support, no benefits, nothing. No one would be stupid enough to start making Nintendo videos now, just because Nintendo suddenly arrived to take their money, and if they did, they're not going to be getting any views.
"The company said it was inundated with applicants for the program."
Lol. Why the heck wouldn't they? Even if this is true, getting dozens of people with 0-50 subscribers to play your games isn't going to be changing anything. The program is a joke, Nintendo really need to get their act together with this one.
It says a lot that so many people consider this to be one of their favourite DS games, while Yoshi's Island DS was just a mediocre Platformer trying to live off the success of the original masterpiece. They tried something new here, and even though there wasn't as much content, what's there was great.
Also worth noting to anyone who plays this game: After you unlock the latter two game modes and beat the high score on them, some balloons will float past in the main menu. Pop one of them and you get to play a small high-score based minigame where you must pop as many balloons as possible in a small amount of time. It's not much, but its just another small touch that I really enjoyed.
It isn't worth playing if you have already played the original Yoshi's Island, because it's just flat out worse, despite coming out over 10 years later.
If you haven't played the original SNES or GBA versions of Yoshi's Island - play them. If you have, and you're looking for more, be prepared for a big disappointment.
People will defend it for being an 'OK' game, or saying it "would be good if not compared to the original", but they're missing the fact that it takes so much of the original's content, and just uses it to an inferior standard. It's not much to ask that a sequel that comes out 11 years after the original is at least as good as it - this one didn't even come close.
This is actually one of my favourite DS games. While every Yoshi's Island game since the first one has been horrible, this actually managed to be a really fun experience. It manages to use every aspect of the DS' capabilities and apply them to a franchise in a way that's refreshing and enjoyable to keep playing.
They're not looking for a publisher out of pride? Those idiots. 3000+ people donated money to your cause, and you deny them their product because you're too proud to suck it up and accept you didn't have the financial sense to make it as an indie. Its bad enough when indie developers lie about how much money they need, or lose sight of what they can do and aim for more once they get more money, but to do that and then not look to every possible solution? Glad I didn't back these guys.
"Let us know in the comment section below what you this of this Pokemon-style approach and the concepts as a whole."
Oh, you guys love your drama, don't cha? :3
Also, typo highlighted.
To answer the question; the practice of splitting game into two and charging full price for both is a terrible business practice and holds absolutely no benefit to the consumer. Pokémon manages to get away with it, as it does with other similar issues because its fans seem to always look the other way. It's one of the reasons I stopped playing that franchise.
If Nintendo decide to really split up this game and charge full price here, I might not buy it. I wont support bad business practices.
Apparently Hoshido is easier. Let the peasants have their Casual mode, I'll be with Nohr, like everyone else who makes the right choice.
Lets just hope they don't go the Pokémon route (ie. filthy game splitting). PokeFanboys may look the other way at bad business practices in their franchise but I'm not buying the same game twice.
It doesn't matter what hardcore Nintendo fans think about it being too early to write off the Wii U - they're the ones who would buy the console regardless.
The fact is that the Wii U is really lacking in games, ironically even core Nintendo franchises. People aren't going to wait more than a year for promises of Star Fox, Zelda and Yoshi's Island.
I'm really disappointed that the Harvest Moon series, and genre in general is just so limited in scope. When was the last time we got a great game in the series, ie. 9/10 or 10/10 material?
"As you can see in the video update itself, below, Aonuma-san makes clear that pushing the game back is in order to ensure the best experience, with new ideas and creativity taking the lead."
And because you continue using this line, why would any developer ever claim anything otherwise? What are they going to say? "Oh sorry, we just told you a time we knew was too early to make it look like we had a good release plan for the Wii U". Giving the excuse of "Oh we want it to be as good as possible" means nothing.
Japan Weekly? Nintendolife plz - I despair enough knowing that Japan has all these awesome Dragon Quest games that we don't, now you're going to show how awesome they are on a weekly basis?
"For years and years and years, women have been on the internet and in video game magazines dressing up like Link, and pulling it off way better than dudes. Seriously. In just about every instance. Not to mention the enormous amount of female Link fanart that has been around since the dawn of time, plus fanfiction. Plus sometimes you have a dream about her, too."
I don't believe that a character like Link needs a gender change anyway (he's a blank slate), but this is just stupid. "Females do cosplay of this character better than males! [Citation needed], and fanart exists, so this should be a thing!". I'm facepalming just reading this stuff. It's an embarrassment.
No, we don't need a character to change gender just for the sake of it. There are plenty of female characters in gaming already, but if you want more, go make some. Also, linking to female Thor of an example of gender swapping done well? Really?
"Should fans be getting annoyed about the idea of Link being female, or should they be more mindful of the fact that women like gaming too, and might sometimes like to play as a character which more closely represents them?"
This question is so loaded its not even funny. Guess what, there are already plenty of female characters in gaming, and no one is opposed to there being more of them. Changing the gender of established characters is stupid in the best of cases. Most gamers don't care about the gender, race, or sexuality of the character they're playing as, because it isn't important. Stop making it an issue.
@Quorthon - Dude, I agree with everything you said in your post to JaxonH, but honestly, its kind of pointless to keep arguing. You're talking about people who are here to defend Nintendo against anything. Your logical statements are just more attacks that they can defend against. Just remember, you're arguing with the guy that said this earlier:
"And there is no comparable game, because Monster Hunter is so intense in battle you you're playing based on muscle memory. And for a fact I know I've played more than 99% of the people here."
Save your logic for people who are willing to listen to it.
I swear to God Nintendo, if this new console attaches to a phone I'll be throwing my Wii U out the window. Because I'd be disappointed, not because I'd be replacing it with an NX
Come on Nintendo, just remove this outdated business practice. Between your dumb region locking and Square Enix's stupid idea to not localise any Dragon Quest games we're missing out on so much.
@Franklin - Lol, you got a laugh out of me.
@TingLz - Really? Because I'd love to play some Japanese 3DS games right now, and I'm sure as hell not going to be buying the Japanese versions and a Japanese system.
If people aren't given the option to play games they want through legitimate means (without having to spend ridiculous amounts of money), then people will pirate.
@retro_player_22 - If someone is upgrading from one of the old 3DS's to the New 3DS, then they can just buy the Japanese one and still play games from all regions. Obviously this holds no benefit to those already with an NA/EU New 3DS.
Pretty sure Nintendo is the only company that bothers to say they're announcing a new console, and then announces nothing.
"We're working on a new piece of hardware" - Well of course you are, why the hell wouldn't you be? Honestly, saying the opposite would have been the real news.
"It's currently code named NX, and that's all we have to say" - Why even bother making the announcement? We know nothing about it. People know literally nothing new.
Also, why even bother having a poll when every answer is loaded with one specific opinion?
Nintendo, this is all I ever asked of you for the UK Club Nintendo. It took you until the closure of the service, but I thank you none the less.
I will say that the prices are rather odd and inconsistent. Alleyway and Mario Picross are both Game Boy games, costing 800 and 2300 stars respectively...and Metroid Fusion (GBA) costs 1800...
Yeah, I don't care if Nintendo games are available on mobile devices, I just wont play those. What I do care about is Nintendo putting less time or effort into its own platforms, or games for them, or compromising either of those to appease the mobile gaming market. If none of that ends up happening, then kudos to Nintendo, but I don't exactly have high hopes.
Too bad the video games they're referencing have to be 30 years old just so everyone recognises what they are. It's a movie about games, but not for gamers.
"The train's leaving the station, I suggest we lose all personal preference and follow Nintendo blindly as consumers no matter what".
Errr...no. People who don't agree with Nintendo's decision can continue to do so, and those not interested in buying into their new products are also free to do so. If they start shifting their focus primarily to mobile gaming, then I'll look elsewhere for my gaming needs, as I'm sure with many other people.
Nintendo hasn't announced any plan to remove region locking
Nintendo hasn't announced any plan to add shared purchases across platforms
Nintendo hasn't announced any plan to add game purchases to an account, not tie them to a single console
The Virtual Console on 3DS has been none existent for the past 4 months or so. When Nintendo move their efforts elsewhere, they disappear from wherever they were before. When this is the case for a service of emulating 20 year old games, I have little faith it'll remain in other more prevalent areas.
I don't believe this will have any advantages for the current Nintendo gamer. Best case scenario it's just products for a new market and we get the same we always did. Prove me wrong Nintendo, and start by actually giving us some good news.
"and our previous 'no thanks' stance is now out-of-date"
I'm not quite understanding this mentality at all. Nintendo are choosing to do something that you don't think is a good idea or something that interests you, and because of that it's time to flip flop? Just because Nintendo changed their stance doesn't mean yours is out of date. Pretty sure this is what thinking consumers do; purchase what they're actually interested in, not just support everything because Nintendo suddenly does.
If you want more Dragon Quest games like this to come to the West then make sure to say so in the survey. Or feel free to fill it out if you're a fan of any of their other franchises.
@mattchew - Maybe they haven't finished with the other songs yet, or decided later down the line to make them free. Either way, people buying the game get all the extra songs for free so everyone wins.
@Zombie_Barioth - Exactly. People are spending their own free time to what they think is right and a problem they want to solve. MoonKnight7 claims that corruption is unfixable, that we're stupid for trying, that we're selfish for trying, and that we've made no difference, all at the same time. It's mind boggling really.
@MoonKnight7 - I can read. Telling someone that what their doing is stupid, is saying their opinion on the matter is stupid. Seems like common sense to me. What are you missing exactly?
> Doesn't understand the difference between an opinion and an act. You can tell people you don't think what they're doing holds any value. Telling them to stop doing that based solely on what you believe is stupid.
"It's insulting that you've taken "consumer revolt" under your wings. You don't deserve it and are inadvertently hollowing the term."
Luckily in the real world definitions are based on logic, and not one persons opinion on what 'deserves' to have a definition.
"The point is you have all these people riled up, and for what? Journalistic integrity to protect the name of gamers? It's selfish, and is not a real problem. Don't hide behind the fact that you are trying to fix corruption in the media. GamerGate is trying to fix corruption in the media for itself, and itself alone. It doesn't care about anything else."
Lol, you contradict yourself so much here, it obviously got difficult for you to pick an argument. Journalistic integrity protects consumers who don't get ripped off, scammed, or mislead by the word of the media. You tell me not to hide behind a fact, and then claim people are doing it for selfish reasons. Sorry, but I think its time you learned what consumer revolts and movements are about. Yes, in the end fixing the problem benefits consumers, and as a consumer myself, it also helps me. Claiming that makes it all selfish is laughable. It's like claiming to only be against terrorism because you're being selfish and trying to protect yourself.
"You really think a bunch of winey gamers can fix media corruption in order to clear the name of gaming? No one will take it seriously, because it doesn't deserve to be. You say "well that's our point! Our voices need to be heard!" You will never be able to outrun all the obscenities that are involved with GamerGate. It's a Game Over screen."
Um...there have already been significant changes to many video gaming sites caused by GamerGate, so yeah, I KNOW we're making a difference. Somehow at least 30,000 people ARE taking it seriously, and your opinion on the matter is again, frankly quite irrelevant. Luckily we also don't stop when you or other people claim we cant keep making a difference because a couple of people threatened someone. We're still to this day changing things, so whine all you like about us not getting anywhere, it's just funny and ironic to watch.
"You wanna fight corruption in the media? Maybe try something with a little more than a bunch of twenty year olds using their obsessive hobby as a platform, and not getting their panties in a bunch because a woman says some legitimate points. It all went downhill from there, before it even started."
Uh-oh; fallacy alert. The many people that make up GamerGate aren't all 20 year olds, but sure, whatever supports your narrative. Facts are evil. Apparently everything went downhill once a woman played being a victim and news outlets used that to protect themselves from criticism while tricking naïve people such as yourself - I'll say it did. For them.
"You may see me as just some jerk who won't listen to reason. I don't care what you do with your time, but this false sense of hope to change the media, under your current banner, is nothing more than a lukewarm fantasy. It's sad you just don't see it."
Lol, I know you wont listen to reason, because you refuse to accept what's right in front of you just because it doesn't fit with a narrative that you've heard up until this point. I'll bring it even closer if you'd like.
@MoonKnight7 - What? Please re-read what I said, because I never called your opinion stupid. I said that trying to tell people that something isn't worth their time was a stupid thing to do.
"If you don't personally think its important enough to devote any time to, then that's your call, but telling people what is and isn't worth their time is stupid."
By definition GamerGate is a consumer revolt. There being 'bigger' ones in the past doesn't make it something else. Just because a problem is relatively small doesn't mean it should be ignored - to me that seems like a silly way to look at life. You solve the problems you can, no matter how 'small' they seem to be. If you don't think corruption in the media is big enough to put effort into correcting, then fine, but this attitude of stopping people from trying just seems counter-intuitive. You focus on what you think is important, or at least fixable, and let everyone else do it too.
@MoonKnight7 - No, it's not really a movement - it's a consumer revolt. I simply end up calling it that because everyone else seems to think of it as one. I support GamerGate because I want to play games and have some decent press to report about it. Having simple disclosures isn't difficult, and yet it's a problem with gaming journalism.
No, it's not a big problem in the grand scheme of things, but how does that matter? It affects people, and people are standing up to change something because they care about it. The fallacy that people should stop caring about something simply because there are more important issues out there is ridiculous. If you don't personally think its important enough to devote any time to, then that's your call, but telling people what is and isn't worth their time is stupid.
@TingLz - Places where people actually congregate to discuss GamerGate outright condemn doxing and death threats. You realise anyone can send a death threat and say they're doing it in the name of any movement right?
I could send a death threat to someone right now on twitter, tag it #Nintendolife, and there you go, a death threat in the name of Nintendolife. Except a movement has nothing official, so except for getting on with stuff and condemning the few people who do this, what else exactly are you expecting? People against Gamergate could doxx someone or send out death threats and claim to be doing it 'for gamergate'. Apparently its an easy way to fight a movement, because it seems to be working for onlookers.
The media will never be accountable for anything so long as people like you rely on them for all your information without facts. It's an embarrassment really.
@Quorthon "Personally, pretty much everything I side with is rational and skeptical"
Hahahaha. Yup. That's why you judge movements by 3/30,000+ people, despite the movement not revolving around these people at all.
"If you want to side with ovary-fearing misogynists, neo-Nazis".
Awww, its cute when you pretend terrible people aren't against GamerGate too. But muh narrative! Guilt by association though, you carry on believing that.
@Quorthon - So if any 'lunatic' supports a movement then it's cause and everyone else is instantly evil? Better say goodbye to every movement ever! I hope you enjoyed eating up the narrative constructed by those whose best interest is to slander a movement that actually tries to hold them to some credibility.
It's a movement against the media, and so you read the media to get information about it, and assume what you hear is true? lol
Don't Starve is a fantastic game. Anyone whos' into survival and doesn't play games on PC (looking at you, anyone who's still whining about no Minecraft on Wii U) - definitely look into buying it.
@Fededx - The DS DQ games did not sell that badly, especially Dragon Quest 9. Just remember that we're talking about Square Enix here, the company that claimed that the new Lora Croft game they made had disappointing sales, despite selling 3.6 million copies in only its first month.

Re: Iwata: Nintendo NX Will Surprise People And Change Their Video Gaming Lives
I swear to God Nintendo, if this new console attaches to a phone I'll be throwing my Wii U out the window. Because I'd be disappointed, not because I'd be replacing it with an NX
@Superstick - Well said.
Re: Nintendo Download: 26th March (Europe)
Probably going to pick up SMT4 if I remember. Been wanting to try that series out for a while.
Re: New Nintendo 3DS Exploit Makes Japanese Systems Region-Free
Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand On DeNA, Smart Device Games, Nintendo 'Membership' And The Nintendo NX?
Pretty sure Nintendo is the only company that bothers to say they're announcing a new console, and then announces nothing.
"We're working on a new piece of hardware" - Well of course you are, why the hell wouldn't you be? Honestly, saying the opposite would have been the real news.
"It's currently code named NX, and that's all we have to say" - Why even bother making the announcement? We know nothing about it. People know literally nothing new.
Also, why even bother having a poll when every answer is loaded with one specific opinion?
Re: eShop Games Added To The European Club Nintendo Store
Nintendo, this is all I ever asked of you for the UK Club Nintendo. It took you until the closure of the service, but I thank you none the less.
I will say that the prices are rather odd and inconsistent. Alleyway and Mario Picross are both Game Boy games, costing 800 and 2300 stars respectively...and Metroid Fusion (GBA) costs 1800...
Re: Satoru Iwata Insists Smart Device Game Pricing Won't "Hurt Nintendo’s Brand Image", Aims for "Several" Simultaneous Hits
Re: Video: New Pixels Movie Trailer Passes One Million Views in Less Than a Day
@TeeJay - Yeah, and that guy with the beard who plays that really annoying guy on Game of Thrones that everyone loves for no real reason.
Re: Video: New Pixels Movie Trailer Passes One Million Views in Less Than a Day
Too bad the video games they're referencing have to be 30 years old just so everyone recognises what they are. It's a movie about games, but not for gamers.
Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Heading For a Period of Major Change, and We Can't Fight It
"The train's leaving the station, I suggest we lose all personal preference and follow Nintendo blindly as consumers no matter what".
Errr...no. People who don't agree with Nintendo's decision can continue to do so, and those not interested in buying into their new products are also free to do so. If they start shifting their focus primarily to mobile gaming, then I'll look elsewhere for my gaming needs, as I'm sure with many other people.
Re: Guide: Everything We Know So Far About Nintendo's Deal With DeNA, Smart Device Plans and More
Here are the facts:
I don't believe this will have any advantages for the current Nintendo gamer. Best case scenario it's just products for a new market and we get the same we always did. Prove me wrong Nintendo, and start by actually giving us some good news.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's DeNA Plans and Ideas Are Smart, Not a Beginning of the End
Re: Video: New LEGO Jurassic World Trailer Builds Dinosaur-Sized Hype
Wow, looks nice. I might actually get this. I'll be skipping 2 though, I wouldn't want to experience that again.
Re: Gallery: The Natives Are Most Definitely Hostile In Cube Life's Survival Mode
There are inspirations, and then there are very obvious rip-offs. This is one of the latter.
Re: All Theatrhythm Dragon Quest DLC Set to be Free
More awesome news that doesn't affect us at all because Squeenix are professional torturers to all their DQ fans in the West.
Square Enix recently sent out this survey to all their fans:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8L8WHJR
If you want more Dragon Quest games like this to come to the West then make sure to say so in the survey. Or feel free to fill it out if you're a fan of any of their other franchises.
@mattchew - Maybe they haven't finished with the other songs yet, or decided later down the line to make them free. Either way, people buying the game get all the extra songs for free so everyone wins.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
I'll bring it even closer if you'd like.
http://wiki.gamergate.me/index.php?title=GamerGate_Achievements
Feel free to turn your nose and pretend it isn't there, but it's sad that you just choose not to see it.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
The media will never be accountable for anything so long as people like you rely on them for all your information without facts. It's an embarrassment really.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
@Quorthon
"Personally, pretty much everything I side with is rational and skeptical"
Hahahaha.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
It's a movement against the media, and so you read the media to get information about it, and assume what you hear is true? lol
Re: Nintendo Confirms Wil Wheaton as Voice Actor for Abraham Lincoln in Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
@Einherjar - if it means anything, I'm with you 100%

Re: Nintendo Announces Fresh Release Details on a Host of Exciting eShop Games
Don't Starve is a fantastic game. Anyone whos' into survival and doesn't play games on PC (looking at you, anyone who's still whining about no Minecraft on Wii U) - definitely look into buying it.
Re: Fans Are Translating Dragon Quest VII On 3DS Because Square Enix Won't
@Fededx - The DS DQ games did not sell that badly, especially Dragon Quest 9. Just remember that we're talking about Square Enix here, the company that claimed that the new Lora Croft game they made had disappointing sales, despite selling 3.6 million copies in only its first month.
