Do know that I mean you no offense article writer, I just see criticism as more useful than praise.
@Rin-go - Good point, my bad.
@Einherjar - I'm glad you think what I say makes for great discussions and conversations. :3
My view on the matter is that if there isn't any legitimate way to purchase a certain game anymore (e.g. right now anything from before the Wii/DS in terms of Nintendo software), then its fine. If they're available on, say, the Virtual Console, then that's a different matter. If you think the Virtual Console price is over the top then buy it second hand.
Honestly though as long as the game in question is more than 2 generations old (pre-DS/Wii right now) then I can understand using other methods to play it. The problem is that Nintendo's Virtual Console service is overpriced for what it offers. They could offer something to actually entice people to pay a couple of pounds for an old game, but instead they offer a poorer service than emulators, or even their own 20+ year old hardware! Seriously Nintendo, the GBC had different palette choices for GB games, why cant the 3DS implement such a simple feature? That's just one thing that could be done, but Nintendo seems adamant into putting as little effort into the service as possible.
@ShadyKnights - I understand that Ubisoft has done some pretty stupid things, but i call things as I see them, I don't search for little excuses to hate on a company even more. I understand the straw that broke the camels back idea, but in this situation it just seems silly.
Imagine Ubisoft was a person. All that's happened the last couple of days is that one of their Friends gave a small criticism of someone else. For some reason Ubisoft gets blamed for this mild mannered statement. The next day they compliment someone. How dare they! These have truly been the final straws!
My point is that the response to these articles just shows that people by this point are desperately looking for more excuses to hate Ubisoft, in situations where they haven't even done anything wrong. It looks petty; wait until they actually do something wrong to overreact to it.
To be honest I imagine most of unjustified anger here is solely because of the fact that it was a Nintendo game that happened to recieve a criticism. People who have broken their camels backs over this have attached themselves to a game they like, and seem unable to react in a sane manner to a criticism of it. It's not like it's that uncommon of an opinion; quite a few people in first articles comments agreed with the statement.
@Kuhang - This kind of thing has happened before. The fact that it was taken down quickly and Ubisoft stated something along the lines of "This employee's opinion doesn't represent that of Ubisofts" shows that is what happened.
No, I don't blindly follow companies, but I also don't boycott their games just because one employee of the company happened to state an opinion over a game. Even if they did actually say it officially I wouldn't care; it isn't an insult. Honestly though if you want to stop supporting a company because someone in it said something mean about Nintendo then that's your choice, I just find it funny that you call people sheep for not doing the same.
@akaDv8R "To be fair though, that view from that guy at Ubisoft could be the view of quite a number at the company"
Yes but, so what if it is? I have that view myself, and I agreed with the original tweet. It isn't really relevant though because its just opinions from single employees. They don't hate Nintendo just because they have a criticism over one game they made.
I know Nintendo gets bad press for little reason, as do most companies. Hell, the irony here is that people are asking for sympathy for Nintendo getting bad press for no real reason, when that's exactly what happening to Ubisoft here.
@Einherjar - People have the right to their own opinions and choices about who to boycott. I have the right to point out why boycotting Ubisoft over something they didn't even say is a stupid idea. I think that people overreacting to something that isn't even relevant to the company in question is a waste of time. If you don't agree with that then you make your own choice. I would have thought this goes without saying.
@Einherjar - Oh please. If Ubisoft had actually done something significant to turn consumers off in these last couple of articles I would agree, but all we have is a bunch of people complaining about irrelevant details.
Of course its fine for any consumer to stop supporting a company, but when you're actually boycotting their games when you planned on buying them, and your reason is based on; 1) Man tweets opinion on wrong account; company even states it isn't their view
or 2) Company praises a Nintendo game
upsetting you, then its ridiculous. No one should be letting things as silly as this get to them - it's laughable at best. Tragic at worst.
Honestly as soon as the first article was published people jumped straight into defence mode for no good reason. The amount of comments that are simply insults directed at Ubisoft or childish comebacks is mind boggling. I mean, at least wait until they actually mess up to overreact to things.
@Einherjar - An employee used the word to express his own opinion and 300 blind mice Nintendo fanboys denounced Ubisoft and all their games. They probably thought the word brought out something special in people.
@Kuhang - One single employee stated a valid opinion on a specific Nintendo game and you're not going to buy one of their games because of that? The company didn't even support the statement. Talk about childish spite.
And to all those screaming "Damage Control" - Well of course they needed to do this. They're dealing with a bunch of irrational fans who got upset by one guy who forgot to use his own Twitter account. Just take a look at the train wreck that is the previous topic on this matter - people forget to actually read the article before they bring out their branded pitchforks.
Looks cool, and I'm keeping an eye on it. I just hope that they don't dumb down or make 'role-switching' inconvenient. You can easily have a game where you mine, then smith, then fight - you shouldn't need to waste time switching roles. It might just be the advertising that's making it seem that way but I guess we'll see.
@ColdingLight - One old GBC game doesn't get released in NA on the same week as the EU and you claim that NA has it worse somehow?
Cave Story, an extremely popular and well received Platformer of recent years, took more than a year to get to EU consoles, after numerous iterations in NA.
Shovel Knight, another great game, still hasn't gotten to the EU after more than a month.
EU pays 50% more than NA do on purchases such as these. 50%. VAT is only 20%, and even then we still get utterly shafted.
On the Virtual Console front: EU is still waiting for 5 Mega Man games to come out, that NA got over a month ago.
The fact that you disagree with a statement as simple as "It's hard being a Nintendo fan everywhere sometimes." just shows that you're only focusing on yourself. Staggered releases suck, but don't pretend NA has it worse than everywhere else just because of two 20 year old games that haven't come out in less than a month.
People in this comments section act as if their own family was insulted by these people. You really have reached a new level of derp as a consumer when you hold a grudge just because someone insulted a company that you happen to own a console from.
@unrandomsam - I never said what I thought mattered on the subject; I said what Nintendo knew and thought mattered because it is their company and their product.
They know better than anyone else whether piracy is benefitting them or not, and they're trying to stop pirating of their system.
Nintendo prevented this kind of stuff for a reason. Exploits are not what we need. If you want your game to be modded by the community you allow for that, and if not, you let the consumer decide if they still want your product.
@unrandomsam - Your justification means nothing. Nintendo don't want piracy, and they have shown us as much. You can bet that they know what's best for their own company. You're also just making assumptions linking one fact to another. The DS sold well because it had 4 iterations and was a good console. Don't just assume piracy is helping Nintendo. They're the only ones that know if it benefits them, and its obvious by their prevention measures that it doesn't.
If it ever comes to the point where I need thee figures to get content out of a game I own then Nintendo has lost me as a customer. I simply won't continue to buy their games if I need to buy a bunch of toys in order to get locked content.
Now I'm hoping this isn't the case, because I honestly haven't looked into it all that much yet.
Correction: Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge isn't actually on the Virtual Console yet.
I'd say Link's Awakening is the best game (made specifically) for the original GB. Gargoyles Quest would also easily be on my list along with Metroid II.
I wasn't going to buy this game myself, but come on! This is 2014; why the he'll is a simultaneous international release not possible by choice? Quite pathetic Nintendo. Much disappoint.
Yeah, this isn't going to work. You cant copyright use of a word that actually means something. Diesel is a thing, and the game wasn't even called "Diesel" alone.
This is a really well made game for its price, and I highly recommend it. I had a lot of fun with the PC version.
It is very atmospheric, and gives you options of how you want to approach situations. You can get out a gun and shoot things, but not often due to limited ammo. Survival is strongly pushed (find food, supplies, etc), but it also scales the difficulty a bit (iirc) based on how well you do.
Also - it's weird. Very weird. But in an awesome way.
If I didn't have the PC version I'd buy it on Wii U. A portable 3DS version however? Sign me up for that.
The only Mega Man classic game where they perfected Rush's abilities though - honestly its a huge improvement. Plus, by now the graphics are very good. I'd definitely recommend it.
At this point, I think we'd be happy with anything substantial from Nintendo's Virtual Console service.
A guaranteed 1 game a week per console at least.
Faster porting to Wii U of existing Wii VC games.
More GB/GBC games, not just more obscure NES ones (3DS).
Custom GB game palettes.
GBA games on the 3DS.
Any more 3D Classics (Seriously - anything that isn't from Sega).
Nintendo needs people who know what they're doing to take charge of the Virtual Console. If it makes them money, then put the effort in. If it doesn't make them a lot of money, why stagger the releases so horribly? We in Europe are still waiting for those six Mega Man games for the 3DS.
@JaxonH - Barely handles GBA? I enjoyed playing the 10 GBA Ambassador games, and they ran well enough for me to want to buy more.
Even if all Nintendo is doing is something to keep R4 cards from being viable on the 3DS, I'm fine with the occasional tiny update. It if did anything substantial they would have told us.
As long as the games aren't doing anything terrible; They have to be games (look at the greenlit simulators on Steam (PC) - it's horrible!) and they have to not steal assets or do anything else reprehensible. All platforms has its bad games, but as long as there is some redeeming factor the games should be allowed to be released to let the public decide.
Saying that people wont notice a great game about terrible ones is a bad argument imo; people who actually put a decent amount of money into gaming look into the games they buy first, and if they don't - why cater towards them? They'll buy anything! Have some level of quality control on the platform, but have we really seen that many games as of late that don't deserve to be on the Wii U/3DS eShops?
They got 4 million dollars with the initial backing, and they wanted more? As if 4 million dollars doesn't cover voice acting on an indie game. $200,000 for voice acting!? No, sorry - who are they hiring? Morgan Freeman?
The game looks promising, but I wont be supporting it if it carries on like this. If they claimed to be able to make the game alone with 900k, then 4 million covers PLENTY of extra content.

Besides, most of the screenshots of the world shown there could easily use 3D without killing the frame rate (If it managed to look like a full open 3D world I wouldn't be asking).
Remember that A Link Between Worlds managed 60fps with 3D on, and this game doesn't look much more graphically impressive. I'd settle for 30fps if the 3D is nice.
