While that's great, it's never been Nintendo's problem. People started playing Nintendo games ~30 years ago. Their downfall has been their inability to grow with their fans; always focusing on children. Nintendo needs to venture more into adult games than they are already. No, that doesn't necessarily mean shooting and blood - but it means more serious story telling and more complex game mechanics. There's a reason a lot of people don't look to Nintendo anymore - they've outgrown them, and this shouldn't be a problem, because Nintendo could easily make games for all ages.
I will say that it was good to see Nintendo open up E3 for kids regardless though - and a lot of that stuff really is heart warming.
@Caryslan - That argument makes sense up until you realise that they ported Bravely Default over here. A new game from a new franchise took precedence over a Dragon Quest game; the famous series that pretty much helped RPG's become a thing. I know DQ isn't that well known over here, but its more successful than that at least.
All they have to do in reality is translate it. For Dragon Quest VII it shouldn't even be that difficult considering its a remake. They could release it digitally only on the 3DS if they're afraid of spending money on physical copies (if it actually came to that), but they wont. Given all this its clear to see that localising it isn't that much of an issue - it's the obvious conclusion to come to, but it makes no sense.
@SphericalCrusher - That's a little self-centred. Surely you alert them so that everyone can see the news, not just so that your name is up there?
@unrandomsam - I've seen people who enjoy spending a lot of time reading alone. Anything can have the same effect on people. Its just because video games happen to be one of the more popular options that its becoming the target.
(@unrandomsam) @MoonKnight7 - Exactly.
Once someone gets into reading and enjoy it - they will want more books to read. Soon nothing will quench their addictive thirst for reading! Except that isn't seen as a problem (Spoiler: Because It isn't). Someone who reads a lot is seen as intelligent and devoted since books have been around for generations. Games though? They from the devil himself.
There is no reason to give these kind of stupid articles any more advertising. The mainstream media is going to bash video games because they're the newest form of media, and least understood by most people. Much like there used to be scares about people being addicted to television or even books, we don't see any of that any more, and its because video games can now be bashed.

People can get 'addicted' to anything. If someone locked themselves up and played video games all day and didn't ever go outside then the person has issues to deal with. If they weren't allowed to play video games they would turn to television, books, or some other hobby. I swear if someone wrote a joke article about Game Addiction I wouldn't be able to tell amongst this stuff.
@Zombie_Barioth - It upsets me how much attention Square Enix puts on mobile devices now. They'll port and localise 8 games for mobile, but not even give us one of the numerous 3DS games? Hell, I'd settle for a digital only release - but even that isn't going to happen.
Square Enix: Running one of their best franchises into the ground with their own arrogance, and not releasing the other overseas ever. They really have lost it.
Yes, the story gives you a reason to capture all the Pokemon, but outside of a tiny certificate that doesnt mean anything (Pretty much the equivalent of an Achievement unlock in a game) the game itself with its own mechanics gives you no reason to capture them all. Capturing them all is boring and tedious, and all amounts to nothing. As I mentioned, the reason I stopped playing Pokémon is because other franchises do it better - and actually make you want to catch all the creatures, because doing so is actually helpful to you progressing in the game, because the mission it's actually well integrated into the game mechanics. In Pokemon its just the longest side quest ever.
Damn it Squeenix! That makes 5 3DS Dragon Quest titles that you haven't localised. I'm throwing my money at the screen waiting to buy any one of them! As a big DQ fan who happens to live in the West, this drought is a big dissapointment.
That's too bad, because it looks like one of the best looking DSiWare games. Granted that's because it blatantly steals Professor Layton's art style, but its DSiWare; you take what you can get.
Still looks like a game that isn't worth the asking price. From what I've seen it gets repetitive very quickly, and because the actual level of interaction is so low, that's a big problem. :/
@ShadJV - That's part of the reason I stopped playing Pokémon in the first place though. The game tells you to "Catch 'Em All!" while giving no real incentive to do so. In other monster catching games you can actually use all the creatures to access different breeding combinations and new monsters. In Pokémon you capture them all then throw them in a box and only use 6/150 (Or ~800 given recent games). Except maybe you use some with the boring breeding mechanics.
I would love to play the old Pokémon games again on the VC just to play the game, not to collect everything in an 18 year old game that gives you no real reason to do so in the first place. If the only reason that they're holding back Pokémon on the Virtual Console is not being able to complete the Pokedex then I say just let us play it. I know some people would like to collect all the Pokémon but wouldn't it be better to please half the fans rather than none of them?
@SanderEvers - No, no it is not useless. I, and plenty of others would gladly buy the old Pokémon games again on the VC, even if it meant not being able to battle other players or complete the Pokedex - because unless you're an obsessive completionist, that stuff isn't necessary.
Hey, I'm happy to finally see a 3DS VC release that isn't just an NES game! Never played it before but I might check it out. It depends how much money I lose buying all the VC Mega Man and Harvest Moon games coming up, assuming they get here soon.
@chiptoon - Yeah I know what you mean. If they were on large sales occasionally or just a lower price than they are now I'd end up buying a lot more VC games just to try them out. As it stands I end up either only buying those I know I'll love from nostalgia or those that get great reviews.
I'll look into it sometime in the future. It's always great to see quality titles hitting the eShop, and there seems to have been quite a few as of late.
Apparently people can claim they love the new Zelda based off 30 seconds of cinematic, but cant say they weren't interested in two other "new IP's" based off actual demos. That's fanboys for ya.
People can get very good impressions of a game and whether they'll like it based on early gameplay demonstrations - and while it will obviously get better, that doesn't mean people cant gauge their interest now.
I think it's the choice of the actual publisher, and this doesn't really show any improvement on the matter - especially considering it isn't even Nintendo. Call me when the VC actually supports cross platform play when hell freezes over.
@CoreyCannabis - Not going online isn't a solution. It just means that if I want to play Mario Kart without random Mercedes cars, I cant use online mode. That's when optional DLC starts to affect people.
@Mk_II - What if I'm playing an online race with other players, and I'm forced to play alongside someone else in a Mercedes car even though I don't have the DLC?
I don't mind this being a single player thing, and I don't know if it can be played with online, but if it is then its not a question as to whether or not you can ignore it.
@Jazzer94 - Yeah that sounds like a pretty terrible idea. Charging for DLC on Minecraft when the PC version lets you make whatever you want in skins or mods for free? No thanks. If its all free then I'd still go for it, but it'd be nice if you could at least make your own skin using the gamepad.
None the less, it'd be nice to see if they implement the controller well into the game. It wont be for me though, I already have the PC version and I've played it to death.
"Our commitment to virtual console is exceptionally strong."
Meanwhile on the 3DS VC releases in Europe this week: Nothing With over 10 confirmed titles coming to the VC in the future one wonders why we still have weeks where we get nothing (or just NES games).
For all of you who blindly follow Nintendo on this one, I'm going to give an example to point out how flawed this system and method is:
A popular 2-3 hour long video podcast uploaded onto Youtube played a Nintendo trailer for 1 minute and talked about it, amongst many others from companies that weren't Nintendo. It got claimed and all the revenue went to Nintendo. Should they have gotten the revenue for a 3 hour show based on one minute where they played a trailer? ie. Free Advertising?
I know there are people who, instead of trying to understand the situation, will automatically take Nintendo's side and assume they're right - but seriously people open your eyes for once. Stop being a chump.
Minecraft is a great game, and it would of course boost the Wii U - but lets be honest. Even if you don't normally play PC games, why would you not just buy it on that platform? If you don't have a laptop or PC to play its games then I cant fathom why you decided on buying a Wii U of all things first.
"If you make Mii's of your favourite people, surprising things can happen!" Like them never speaking to you again for buying a game based on this advert. Such cringe. :L
I played it when I was a lot younger, and enjoyed the fact that I could actually finish it. I disagree about the music being bad - this game actually has some great tunes. The problem is the instrumentation, as mentioned by someone already I see (At least in my case I have the nostalgia to overshadow the occasional screeching). Not as bad as a 3/10 in my eyes, but comparatively its one of the worse games of the series.
I'll still be picking it up to relive those memories from 14 years ago, and the same goes for Mega Man III, which I'm really looking forward to. Combining the levels and soundtracks from my favourite NES Mega man games? (3+4) - Yes please.
It'd be interesting to see someone else at Nintendolife review the retro Mega Man games for GB/GBC if only because we all know Phils opinion of them all anyway (No offense meant - Phil writes a good review). As always though - you'd be missing out if you rely on one persons opinion to make a purchasing decision.
I'll be looking forward to playing this once it decides to come to Europe.
@Marshi - No worries, no offence taken. I've had mixed experiences playing golf games in the past though, so I'll admit I'm not a big fan of the genre. I was on the fence about the purchase before I saw this anyway.
@Marshi - "But if your reason for not buying the game is that you want this day 1 dlc to be in the game then im sorry but that to me is greedy"
I think this comes down to a fundamental disagreement of views then. That to me is not greedy. Not buying something because you don't think its worth it isn't greedy in my eyes. Even if I played a game and thought it had enough content to justify the price, I wouldn't call someone greedy if they didn't also believe that. People make up their own minds about what their money is worth. You can disagree but I don't think its fair to call them greedy just for that reason.
@Marshi - I have decided to not purchase this game because I do not support the business practices that they are using. The amount of content that the game has was never relevant to my point or the reason that I wouldn't be buying the game.
How this leads you to conclude that I am greedy astounds me. Oh no, I decided to not buy a game based on a business practice that I personally disagree with. How greedy of me.
@Marshi - Here's the point I made in my post: If DLC is available on day one then buying the game doesn't get you the whole package (Fact).
Not sure how you believe that proves your point, but let me elaborate anyway. If there is DLC on day one, then they could have coupled it with the game and sold it all at once on day one as a full package. If they develop it further down the line then there's no other way to distribute that extra work, and thus they must sell the content as DLC.
This wouldn't however be a problem to me if the game was significantly cheaper - looking at it now on Amazon it's selling for the same price I buy all first party Nintendo games for at release. Is that to say that the game doesn't have enough content? No; that's up to personal opinion.
There is however, in my opinion, a limit to a games worth based on the available characters and courses, and that is why I wont be buying the game. Ironic though that you would call gamers who don't support these practices greedy, when that in fact is the only reason for Day 1 DLC existing in the first place.
Was the DLC available since launch of the game? Then you didnt buy the whole game - whether or not you download it isn't important. Not buying this one Nintendo. You know whats worse than people stating their opinions and principles in the comments section though? People who whine about everyone who has any negative opinion of the game. It doesn't affect you - get off your high horses.
@cfgk24 - I realise that second hand sales hurt the developers to an extent, but that doesn't change my stance. If I see a £30 game on a new system with no option to buy digital, I'll be passing much more than I would with the option of buying physical. If Nintendo want to go all digital to save themselves from this trouble then reduce the overall prices - otherwise people will just stop buying their games.
@Peach64 - Let me put it this way. When I buy a retail game at £30 today I can easily resell it for at least £20 on eBay if I wanted to. I also have the option of lending it to someone else (which I end up doing) or even trading it with someone for another game. As I've said in my previous post though - if they handle it badly I simply wont buy the next Nintendo console. The only reason I don't expect this to go well is because it's Nintendo we're talking about here - always slow to catch up with ideas such as this.

There is however, in my opinion, a limit to a games worth based on the available characters and courses, and that is why I wont be buying the game. Ironic though that you would call gamers who don't support these practices greedy, when that in fact is the only reason for Day 1 DLC existing in the first place.
Re: Mario Golf: World Tour’s DLC Isn't Locked Away in the Main Game
Was the DLC available since launch of the game? Then you didnt buy the whole game - whether or not you download it isn't important. Not buying this one Nintendo. You know whats worse than people stating their opinions and principles in the comments section though? People who whine about everyone who has any negative opinion of the game. It doesn't affect you - get off your high horses.
Re: Cult County Kickstarter Ends Without Success, Developer "Discussing Other Options"
I think they were reaching just a tad too far. Hasn't their only alright game just been a pretty average platformer?
Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld
@cfgk24 - I realise that second hand sales hurt the developers to an extent, but that doesn't change my stance. If I see a £30 game on a new system with no option to buy digital, I'll be passing much more than I would with the option of buying physical. If Nintendo want to go all digital to save themselves from this trouble then reduce the overall prices - otherwise people will just stop buying their games.
Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld
@Peach64 - Let me put it this way. When I buy a retail game at £30 today I can easily resell it for at least £20 on eBay if I wanted to. I also have the option of lending it to someone else (which I end up doing) or even trading it with someone for another game. As I've said in my previous post though - if they handle it badly I simply wont buy the next Nintendo console. The only reason I don't expect this to go well is because it's Nintendo we're talking about here - always slow to catch up with ideas such as this.
