JP cover for me all the way, the NA one is fine but, like a ton of NA boxarts, it's a bity too generic "action game" for my tastes. The JP cover has a tad bit more style to it, imo.
@Cia Because that's the subtitle in Japan. A lot of games in JP have slightly different titles/subtitles.
How many times have we heard an exec or "spokesperson" say "______ is totally untrue and/or inaccurate" only to have that very thing confirmed hours or days later?
It wouldn't matter if it's releasing at $40 or $80, Amazon would honor the price at the time of pre-order and eat the cost (which would be negligible anyway), or releasing on both Switch and Switch 2 since they send out emails when pre-orders are getting ready to ship, giving people plenty of tie to cancel or upgrade their orders.
Nintendo and Amazon are still fighting, and Amazon hasn't been doing pre-orders on 1st party Nintendo games for at least a year. These cancelations are just Amazon purging orders they won't be able to fulfill. Nothing more, nothing less.
I don't think I'll ever understand the heaps of praise for SOMA. Mechanically it's solid, and it's got atmosphere for days, but...holy hell, did the narrative and VAing leave everything to be desired.
It has a very basic narrative conceit, one explored in tonnes of other sci-fi stories...but it's so incredibly heavy-handed and pretentious, as if it's the first piece of media to ever explore those themes. To make matters worse, Simon (the player character), might be the single dumbest protagonist in gaming history and the main supporting character spends the entire game re-explaining the plot him (and you, the player, because the game thinks you're obviously you're too dumb to get it, too) over, and over, and over, and over, and over...it's absolutely exhausting and ridiculously patronizing.
Never have I been so happy to finish a game just so I could uninstall it and utterly wipe it from my brain.
I'm guessing they don't want to come right out and say it, for obvious reasons, but the Wii guitars are some of the most recommended and sought after controllers for Clone Hero, which is what I suspect these are actually being made for. Why let the second hand market have all the fun when there's potential profit to be made?
@VoidofLight I'd second that. Taro's always-masked, "I hate working, but ill do anything for money", goofball schtick feels entirely purposeful to avoid having to actually talk in-depth about anything so as to let the work speak for itself. Similar to Harada's "don't ask me for sh*t", twitter trolling undercuts how seriously he actually takes criticism and real feedback.
I'm very slightly annoyed that it doesn't have the pristine polish of something developed in house by Nintendo but, it's a great game and after the first few minutes in the open world I adjusted to it and it's not such a twitchy game that it really affects anything. So no, I'm more or less unbothered.
Saw this a few days ago on one of the devs' channel, with different music (the worst possible nu metal bullsh*t they could find)", and in response to one of the comments worrying about Nintendo striking it down they replied, and I quote:
"When will armchair lawyers realize they know sh*t, Nintendo can suggon deez nuts and offer me a job or shut up. I actually do know my rights"
While I do hope Nintendo releases 2 & 3 remasters, I would be remiss if I didn't mention PrimeHack and just say...if you're waiting for Nintendo, maybe don't wait too long.
Bummed they brought back Simon McQuoid to direct, as I thought the last one was directed about as well as a first-year student film, but the writer(s), cinematographer, choreographer, editor, etc., have all be replaced...so it can't possibly be as piss-poor as the last one...(wishful thinking, it absolutely could)
Neither Suda or Gunn are involved in this in any way, they've seemingly ditched Yamaoka's original score, and 16 of the licensed tracks from the game have been replaced with (if the tailer is any indication) legally distinct knock-offs.
None of those are 100% deal-breakers, but expectations firmly in check, here, folks.
If you genuinely, legitimately think what they showed of here looks like a WiiU game, I'd like you to tell me exactly which WiiU games you're playing, because nothing on that system looks anywhere close to as good as Prime 4. This is built on the same framework as Prime 1 Remastered, which looks absolutely stunning.
And just to play devil's advocate, even if it did somehow look like a WiiU game...who cares? Nintendo ALWAYS prioritizes superb art direction over pure visual fidelity, that is a huge part of how they've not just competed with, but dominated, Sony and MS in terms of hardware sold on system that are leagues behind their most direct competitors.
I swear, all you miserable, know-nothing arm chair critics are the worst, you people will complain about literally anything and nothing is ever good enough.
Tbh, I've had my Switch for a little over 3 years now and I've only ever used the joycons maybe a dozen times, and only for stuff like Switch Sports bowling. They're fine for what they are, but I don't like using them. Just as long as my Pro controllers still work on Switch 2, I'm good.
I just want more Metroid. Whether that's Prime 4, Zero Mission finally coming to NSO, Prime 2/3 Remasters, Samus Returns getting ported to Switch, I'd even take a rerelease of Other M (as long as I could skip cutscenes and the gave us controls that weren't awful). Put Prime Pinball on Switch!
@ecco6t9 They've done these kinds of surveys a few times before. If I remember correctly, the last one (or one of the last ones) asked if players wanted cross-platform play between Switch and PC for MH Rise...then they announced like a week later they weren't adding cross-play to MH Rise, so they asked already knowing they weren't doing it.
I hated, like...HATED...the first one about as much as I could hate a movie. Terrible , tonally confused script written by people who think they're better than the source material and had to "elevate" it by needlessly over-complicating things, absolutely pathetic direction, amateur choreography further ruined by abysmal cinematography and possibly the worst editing I've ever seen in a studio film.
So, I suppose the sequel couldn't be worse.........could it?
Conan makes a lot of sense, the character lends himself to the brutality of MK. If that pans out I could see "unknown girl" potentially being Red Sonja.
I absolutely cannot see Mattel being cool with He-Man getting viscerally disemboweled.
1. Super Metroid 2. TotK 3. Metroid Dread (it's every bit as good as Super, I will die on that hill) 4. BotW 5. Metroid Prime Remastered 6. Metroid Fusion 7. AM2R () 8. Metroid Zero Mission 9. Starfox 64 10. Mario Kart 8
@ParadoxFawkes Origins isn't awful, but it's a massive step down as a follow-up to Arkham City, WBM made some changes to the combat that makes it feel off, it was notoriously buggy at launch, and Warners made WB Montreal stop patching it to work on DLC (they fixed the biggest issues, but left a lot of smaller ones).
@Deviant-Dork Rocksteady doesn't recognize Origins as part of their trilogy. It was made to fill a gap in WB Games' schedule and keep shareholders happy, as Knight needed more time and was delayed, and they had nothing to do with it (it was developed by WB Montreal, who went on to do Gotham Knights).
Asylum and City will be perfectly ok. If you're fine with 20-30fps and sub 720p resolution, Knight will be fine. It's going to look awful, but it'll play well enough. Also, though, I don't really understand why anyone would want these games on the Switch. Portable, sure, but on the Switch specifically, I don't see the point. These are games designed with incredible environmental surround sound and to be played on the biggest screens possible, playing them on a Switch is doing them a huge disservice.
I guess if you've NEVER played them and ONLY own a Switch (which is, frankly, wild) it'll be A way to play them, but nowhere close to the BEST way to play them. They all (including Knight) run perfectly on modern low-end PCs and the entire collection can be had regularly for around $10, is currently $12 on PS4/PS5, and $25 on Xbox (or considerably less on the grey market).
Based on the trailer footage Asylum and City seem to look/run fine, but Knight looks straight-up terrible, which is to be expected if the goal is to hold a solid 30fps.
There better, cheaper options to play Knight if you haven't already.
Not because I'm going to be disappointed, but because if there is one constant with all of these showcases it's that a vocal minority will not be able to shut up about how disappointing it was.
None of them are good, but the NA one is probably the least bad.
Zombies on the EU cover just make it look like a cheap knockoff game, and the character lineup on the JP cover looks like someone cranked the contrast way up so they stick out and ends up looking like they were added as an afterthought.
Contrast any of these to Darkside Chronicles (which has excellent NA/JP and EU covers) and it's evident Capcom did not think the game would be successful and didn't put any thought or effort in its cover art.
@Dom_31 Your loss, the Monster Hunter movie (sans the first 15 or so) is actually pretty solid, and that's coming from someone who detests the Resident Evil movies and 99% of everything Anderson has ever done. Not saying it's particularly good, it certainly could have been better, but it also could have been infinitely worse.
@bka0416 A Kart version of Smash is exactly what I want from the next entry. I get it, Mario Kart is the brand, but I would kill for a proper Nintendo Kart.
I just replayed Prime about a month before Dread dropped, so it's still fairly fresh in my mind and I thought it held up pretty well graphically...but, hot damn, I have been consistently shocked at how good this version looks. It's obviously not a full-on remake like FFVII or Demon's Souls, but it's way closer to something like Crisis Core than I would have expected. Not sure who handled this version, but they did one hell of a job.
If we don't see or hear anything about Prime 4 this calendar year, I have to assume Nintendo is pulling a Starcraft Ghost and won't officially cancel it, but we'll never hear about it again. And we've heard so many conflicting rumors about a prospective Prime or Prime Trilogy remaster/re-release that I'll believe it when I see it.
At this point, I'm convinced we'll get a 2D Dread follow up from MercurySteam before we get a single shred of info about Prime 4.
My only two complaints with BotW were the weapon degradation and stamina systems, and with the latter it was really only an issue very early on.
The idea that they switch to a Monster Hunter-like system where instead of breaking they lose sharpness is a great one that I think could go a long way to making things far less annoying.
Or maybe a system that would give you very limited number of items that would allow you to reforge a weapon to make it unbreakable, so you'd have to be very selective about which weapons you choose to apply that to.
Pokémon Legends Arceus Kirby and the Forgotten Land Nintendo Switch Sports (worth it for Bowling alone) Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes MH Rise Sunbreak Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Splatoon 3 Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Bayonetta 3 Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
And that's just the big 1st party titles, there were tons of excellent 3rd party games and dlcs to fill out the dead spots. Despite the system really showing its age, this was a pretty great year for the Switch on the whole and anyone who says otherwise wasn't paying attention.
"Indeed, it’s been far too long since we’ve gotten a new F-Zero, which has led to copycats filling the void as best as they can. Some of these, like Fast RMX or WipEout Omega Collection,"
I'm sorry, hang on, full stop...did this person really just f'ing call Wipeout an F-Zero copycat? Not just Wipeout, but the Omega Collection...which is a collection (it's right there in the name) of the PS3 and Vita Wipeout titles and not even a "new" game?
@Serpenterror Which version did you order? Standard editions are shipping as we speak. Classic editions are expected before the end of Q4 2022 (by March), and Radical editions are expected Q1 2023 (between April-June).
Hey folks, know your worth and don't accept anything less than you deserve.
Also, and this part is just as important, don't sh*t on the person who took the job you didn't accept and SUPER DON'T DON'T sh*t on all the other people attached to a project you turned down.
Hold Nintendo and Platinum accountable, but boycotting a game that hundreds of people, who had nothing to do with this, spent years of their lives working on is incredibly petty.
The JP box art wasn't created for the game, it's a repurposed piece of promotional art made for the animated series that's been used on hundreds of other pieces of merch.
I have Bayo 1/2 digitally on Switch, and I saw that they're finally doing a physical release of 1 soon, but I really, really wish they'd done a physical Trilogy collection with all three titles. Maybe one day.
Love me some MK but, since MK8D, I've been more and more curious why Nintendo is so firmly stuck on the "Mario" part of Mario Kart.
I get it, to an extent but, come on, lets Smash this MF'r and get EVERYONE in there. Call it Mario Kart All-Stars or some such, and just load that thing with Nintendo characters. It's cool that MK8 got a handful of guest characters (Link and the Squid Kids) and obviously leave out the 3rd party license characters, but where's Ness, Olimar, Captain Falcon, Star Fox, Samus, Pokemon Trainer (or individual Pokemon), etc,. etc., etc.
Come on, Nintendo, get with it, that's just money left on the table!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time
The JP box art wasn't created for the game, it's a repurposed piece of promotional art made for the animated series that's been used on hundreds of other pieces of merch.
Re: Where To Pre-Order Bayonetta 3 On Switch
I have Bayo 1/2 digitally on Switch, and I saw that they're finally doing a physical release of 1 soon, but I really, really wish they'd done a physical Trilogy collection with all three titles. Maybe one day.
Re: Random: Mario Kart 64 Nearly Had A 'No Item' Mode To Appeal To F-Zero Fans
