A "more realistic" graphical presentation and the loss of (assumedly) most of the licensed soundtrack means this is 100% a hard pass for me.
I love the original, for all its many faults, and that cartoonish presentation and soundtrack are big, big reasons for that, without them it's just not Lollipop Chainsaw.
EDIT: James Gunn has confirmed on Twitter that neither he nor Suda are involved in this, so yeah...hard, HARD pass.
Pre-orders are STILL not up anywhere in the US, so I had to order the controller from Amazon UK. It should come in about a week after launch, but that's fine, I'll be playing Sunbreak on PC. I mainly got the controller to complete the set, since I have the MHR special edition console and pro controller, and needed another anyway.
WTF is wrong with commenters here? No Metroid game that looks like this is coming out, Samus isn't going to look like this in anything, any time soon. This is FAN art. Some genuinely f'ing incredible fan art from an incredibly talent person, just appreciate it (or don't) on its own merits...christ almighty...
This rules, and seemingly basing Samus' face on a young Kim Basinger is a stroke of genius.
This is 100% complete and total bulls**t. Remixes and covers almost certainly fall under fair use, educations purposes, or parody law. I am relatively certain, if a case like this were to go to court, Nintendo would likely lose...and I think Nintendo know it, but they throw their weight around like this to scare people into not f'ing with them.
@Paulo That game gets a really, really bad rap, but it's fine. It's not great by any means, but it's just a mindless beat-em-up. It's nothing special, but it's far from "the worst thing ever" that a lot of folks label it as.
@hadrian Because Jim Lee decided that, with the New 52 revamp, to replace J'onn with Cyborg as a founding member of the JL...and even though everyone hated the New 52 because was abysmal (for good reason, it sucked), Lee still runs DC and insists on using that lineup in all multimedia projects.
@MindfulGamer If it happens again, get some contact cleaner (the electronics kind, not contact lens cleaner), take it apart again, remove the thumbstick caps, spray a bunch down into the sticks, and work them around for 20ish seconds. It'll get rid of any dust/dirt or oxidization that may have built up in them. Sometimes they're too far gone to salvage, but if it's just normal wear and nothing mechanically wrong that should be enough to fix them up good as new.
Put somewhere around 1200 hours into my pro controller since I got my switch and it still looks and functions as well as it did the day I unboxed it. Don't know about the joycons, my switch is docked 24/7, so I've literally never used them. I am aware that drift is a problem and some controllers get it no matter how well you treat them, I just fixed 2 Xbox controllers that had terrible drift, but some of y'all are also way, way too hard on controllers.
I really, really, really, really, REALLY wish these games would exclude songs with ridiculously long lead-ins or dead-air or just noise.
I knew todays one immediately because it's my favorite piece in all of RE music, but the preview only goes to 16 seconds and there are a solid 23 seconds before a single note is heard.
@YoNemesis Rev1 wasn't episodic,. Rev2 was, but it wasn't like Telltale where you'd maybe get a new episode once every few months. It was essentially on a tv show schedule. The game was fully done at release of Ep1, and the subsequent episodes were released once a week for the following 3 weeks. You only had to wait a month to play the whole thing.
@Kilroy I've played every single game in the series at least twice over. RE4, specifically, I've played through maybe a dozen times or more...most recently, yesterday. Ashley is annoying, sure, but people often downplay how ridiculously goofy RE4 actually is. Leon himself, in that game, is a dumb one-liner spewing parody of an action hero. The whole game is corny as hell, and it KNOWS what it is. The same applies to most of the series, the camp is part of the appeal, and they lean into it when appropriate (except for RE6, which is one of the big reasons it fails so hard).
Revelations, on the other hand, takes itself so damn seriously. It's completely missing the self awareness of the rest of the games, so when Vesters super mustache-twirling, Dick Dastardly ass shows up he's so cartoonish and completely at odds with the tone of the rest of the game that it sinks the whole ship, pun 100% intended.
One of the worst games in the series, which is a low, low bar. Decent enough for a 3DS title, but I played it on the PC after the port came out and, aside from Raid mode, really did not enjoy it in the least. Gameplay is fine, but the scanner gimmick got old real, real quick, it has some of the overall worst writing the series has ever had, and features the single most insufferable character not just in Resident Evil, but possibly all of gaming. Raymond Vester sucks the moon right out of the f'n sky and single-handedly ruins whatever potential Revelations might have otherwise had.
Here's an idea, and this is not snark or out of hand dismissiveness...can we just not, with any of this?
There are no shortage of actual, season game-devs across social going out of their way to explain, in painful detail, why NFTs and video games (especially the whole "unlock X item in Game A and use it Game B) simply doesn't work...and not in a "that's a lot of work, but it's doable" way. It fundamentally does not work for myriad reasons and the people pushing that narrative, a lot of them admittedly, know NOTHING about game development.
I get that this is a huge conversation atm, but the sooner we just agree to stop giving it space and let it die the death it deserves, the better off we'll all be.
@ChromaticDracula I wouldn't hold my breath, were I you. It's a live-service game, so it's all divided into seasons with their own passes full of stuff, car unlocks for playing are blind loot boxes, and you can buy individual cars and track packs...most which is licensed stuff from DC, Capcom, and Nickelodeon. Any "complete" edition isn't likely to include any of the licensed content, and will likely just have the paid track/room editor assets.
P.N.03 is probably my all-time favorite GCN game, and easily one of the few games that should have been a way bigger deal than it was. Resident Evil's Shinji Mikami doing a sci-fi action/bullet-hell dancing game? How did no one pay attention to THAT?
@Clammy I get that, and I generally hate it people replay with crap "it's really not that hard" comments...but I promise you, it really isn't. It's all about learning the patterns and how to effectively avoid attacks. I ran that fight 30+ times without getting past his 2nd phase, and damn near gave up completely. I put it down for a day and came back later, managed it with very little effort the first attempt. Then I just ran that fight over and over and really learned the tells, now that fight is a joke. If all else fails, there's no shame in watching a yt video of a run to get a better feel for it.
@Paraka GTA is a wealth of content...its' just that most of those things aren't particularly fun, and none of the characters are in any way likable or relatable, which makes it infinitely harder to keep playing! But it's SATIRE, see, so it's brilliant!
@Desrever It's only misleading because people took it out of context and/or misunderstood what he was saying (and that interview is a month old, not sure why NL is only bringing it up now, but I digress).
Sakamoto never said that Dread was the end of the Metroid series, he said it was the end of the story arc that started with the first game.
People are either bad at reading comprehension, or just like the bs clickbait headlines...I'm gonna guess a little of column A, little of column B.
"I don't play games for realistic dramatic representations of avatars"
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess you're the type that skips any and all cutscenes, in which case, your opinion on the validity of a narrative is entirely moot.
@Warioware Totally get that, it can be a tough game to get into. I bought the original release on PS2, didn't finish it. Bought the Wii version didn't finish it. Bought the HD version for PS3, didn't finish it. I got to roughly the same point in all three attempts, but it wasn't until I bought the PS4 HD version that I actually sat down and made myself see it through to the end. And then, because I am apparently a psychopath, I bought it AGAIN on PC. That's 5 in total, if you're counting.
I adore Okami, it's easily one of my favorite games of all time (hence why I keep rebuying it), but I can't deny that it's too long and really, really drags in places. Luckily the gameplay is good enough, and exploration/experimentation is so rewarding, that it helps pull you through at time when there's not much going on otherwise.
I like the Zero Suit design fine, but I've been thinking that it's a bit overdue for a redesign. There's been so many variations of her power suits, but the zero suit has essentially remained untouched for nearly 20 years. It's certainly a step up from the OG Justin Bailey suit, but the sexy skintight bodysuit thing doesn't really fit Samus' character. I don't think it needs a drastic overhaul, but something akin to the redesign Batgirl's suit got in the Batgirl of Burnside run would work really well for Samus. Something practical and functional, that still offers some modicum of protection. Maybe something that combines her Power Suit looks and a Federation uniform, something more befitting of someone who is former military than a catsuit.
@Axelay71 We didn't hate Other M for taking things in a different direction, we hated it for taking things in a stupid direction, but primarily for turning Samus from the most badass bounty hunter in the galaxy that takes sh*t from no one into this docile, subservient child that needs to please daddy at all costs. The gameplay in Other M is solid enough, it's the narrative and characterization of Samus people have a problem with, and for good reason.
1: Not live-action, please God, not live-action. If anyone were to try and make a "live-action" Metroid film, it'd be 99.9% CGI anyway. CGI sets, CGI creatures, the suit(s) would almost certainly be mostly digital (same way they do Iron Man in the MCU films now), one of the few things that would be live-action would be the inserts of Samus' face. At that point, you're just making a CGI movie, so just do it animated form the beginning. I'll take CGI, but I'd really, really, REALLY prefer hand-drawn
2: It needs to be almost entirely silent. I certainly wouldn't mind dialogue now and then, but Samus isn't (and shouldn't be) much of a talker. She's a person of show, don't tell. One of the absolute best things about Metroid Dread is how the game uses animation to let Samus' body language speak for her and one of the key aspects of the series as a whole is how it allows music and environmental design to set the tone. If you have a Metroid movie where Samus is constantly talking, whether it's giving exposition or making quips, it's just going to feel like a betrayal of character.
3. If it does end up animated and a western production and they don't get Genndy Tartakovsky, then why even bother? Go back and watch Samurai Jack or check out his latest brilliant/brutal show, Primal, and tell me he wouldn't absolutely f'ing KILL it. If it's a Japanese production, I don't know, Trigger or Production I.G immediately spring to mind, but I'm sure there are plenty of other houses that would jump at the opportunity and do amazing work.
Switch model refresh in 2023 New Console in 2025 or 2026, at the earliest.
The Switch is closing in on the Wii's lifetime sales, and will likely pass it by the end of the year or early next year. If it continues to sell as well as it is there's no reason for Nintendo to move on to a new system just yet. They'll want to keep this train rolling for as long as possible. To that point, there's literally no reason for Nintendo NOT to make whatever's next backwards compatible, unless they ditch carts again, which I don't see happening.
They're wonderful, as most amiibo are, but it makes me legit mad that our options for a ton of Nintendo characters (like Samus) are tiny $12 amiibo, $100-$250 Figmas (none of which are in production anymore), or $1200 F4F statues.
I'd happily pay $20-40 for 6', nicely detailed, posable Metroid figures from anyone other than Jakks.
If I opened the door on Halloween and saw a little Samus standing there with dad under the Metroid umbrella, they get all the candy in the house, full stop.
Give it a few hours, they'll all be on reddit for free. Also, the NA MyNintendo store has none of those. It does have an ugly wallpaper calendar for October, and two really crappy wallpapers.
Prime 4 might be in trouble. Even with development restarted at Retro, where it should have been from the beginning (god job with that, Nintendo), it feels like if they had anything to show, they would have shown something by now. Not even a full trailer, a teaser, a screenshot, some concept art, even a little interview with someone at Retro detailing any aspect of what it's going to be. Literally anything...
BotW was announced FOUR YEARS before it released and we got lots of little looks to keep people thinking/talking about it. Prime 4 was announced four years ago, and we know literally nothing...and that's worrisome.
To that point, I'm starting to think we might not even be getting that Prime Trilogy port everyone wants, basically for the same reasons. It's been rumored for so long now that if it actually existed, in any form, we'd certainly have seen or heard something by now...especially considering we've heard so many conflicting rumors (i.e. it's been done for ages and Nintendo is sitting on it, and a former Retro devs saying a port if basically impossible).
I dunno, more and more I'm starting to think that after the original version of Prime 4 was scrapped and development moved to Retro, I think it's still very, very early in development because Nintendo wanted to wait and see how Dread did before 100% committing to another Metroid.
Call me crazy, but something about the development cycle of Prime 4 just feels fishy. I desperately hope I'm wrong, but I suppose we'll just have to keep waiting and see what happens.
@khululy No doubt, but the secondary market has absolutely exploded into sheer ridiculousness over the past couple of years. Everything sucks, so people are returning to what made them happy as kids. I totally get it, I'm certainly guilty of it myself, but some of the prices I've seen...good lord, calling it "highway robbery" is being kind.
@NotSoCryptic Ugh...the PS1 longboxes. Coolest looking, absolute worst storage solution ever created. I can't tell you how many original PS1 games I picked up back in the day where, upon opening them, would either find a loose disc rattling around in their cardboard coffin or would immediately fall out of those horrible things and get scratched instantly, and how many I had to return because they were ruined before I could play them.
@NotSoCryptic I guess, lol. I remember hooking it up once, but I cannot for the life of me remember ever actually playing the thing.
I had that thing for years, but finally sold it with a bunch of other old hardware I never used in like 2005-ish. Ended up getting more than what I paid for everything, so I guess that's good?
I remember going to Wal-Mart back in '99, a few months before the Dreamcast launched, and they had a grip of unsold Saturns, brand new, all slashed to $25. I bought one, because why not, but I don't remember if I ever actually played anything on it or if I owned any games for it.
Some retailers seem to have shipped it super, super early. I've seen multiple local listings of on hand, sealed copies on both fb marketplace and mercari from people who had multiple copies.
I want it...I just want Dread now, please. Got my SE, the amiibo, the controller, and the case (which I will almost assuredly never use). Next week is all Metroid, all the time, and I cannot f'ing wait.
Why is it that these fan mockups so often can't even get the basics right? The formatting of that is totally wrong.
The background red is a different shade. The GB itself would be straight on, not angled. Look at how bad the blue of the GB logo is bleeding into the red...hideous.
I don't expect everyone to be a photoshop wiz, but if you're gonna do this kind of thing, at least follow the same design ethos of the UI.
Here's the thing, you can do a fan project using someone else's IP all day...just as long as you don't charge for it. Something like this or AM2R, projects done by super passionate fans who were just doing it because they wanted to and give that work away to other passionate fans, is totally fine legally and does not infringe on copyright.
A 2D Prime remake takes literally nothing away from Nintendo. They don't lose a dime, nor is there ANY chance of them losing their IP. No one is going to decide to play this free, fan made game over Metroid Dread and Nintendo's insistence on constantly kicking down their most dedicated, hardcore fans just makes them look like the bad guys.
Myself, JaxonH, and millions of other players seem to agree that Rise looks great for a Switch title. Does it run as smoothly as it would on one of the other consoles or a PC? No. Does it take away from the experience in any meaningful way? Absolutely not. It's running on a mobile APU, for God sake, it was never going to be locked at 30 running at 1080p. For what it IS, though, it's excellent.
If you don't agree, that's fine. Opinions are entirely subjective, yours included, so don't posture like your opinion is some kind of gospel. Being an elitist d*ck isn't going to convert anyone to your side.

Re: Nintendo Talks About Its Future And Reconfirms Next Gaming System Is Coming In "20XX"
Switch model refresh in 2023
New Console in 2025 or 2026, at the earliest.
Re: Gallery: Metroid Dread amiibo Are Finally Here In Europe, And They're Rather Lovely
Re: Random: This Girl's Mother Makes The Absolute Best Metroid Halloween Cosplay
If I opened the door on Halloween and saw a little Samus standing there with dad under the Metroid umbrella, they get all the candy in the house, full stop.
Re: My Nintendo Adds Some Rather Nice Metroid Dread Wallpapers
Give it a few hours, they'll all be on reddit for free. Also, the NA MyNintendo store has none of those. It does have an ugly wallpaper calendar for October, and two really crappy wallpapers.
Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted
Guys and gals, I think we need to face facts...
Re: Hackers Have Cracked Open A Sega Saturn Emulator Inside A Commercial Switch Release
Re: Hackers Have Cracked Open A Sega Saturn Emulator Inside A Commercial Switch Release
Re: Hackers Have Cracked Open A Sega Saturn Emulator Inside A Commercial Switch Release
Re: Hackers Have Cracked Open A Sega Saturn Emulator Inside A Commercial Switch Release
I remember going to Wal-Mart back in '99, a few months before the Dreamcast launched, and they had a grip of unsold Saturns, brand new, all slashed to $25. I bought one, because why not, but I don't remember if I ever actually played anything on it or if I owned any games for it.
Re: Metroid Dread Footage Has Leaked Online Ahead Of Next Week's Launch
Some retailers seem to have shipped it super, super early. I've seen multiple local listings of on hand, sealed copies on both fb marketplace and mercari from people who had multiple copies.
Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For October And November 2021
I want it...I just want Dread now, please. Got my SE, the amiibo, the controller, and the case (which I will almost assuredly never use). Next week is all Metroid, all the time, and I cannot f'ing wait.
Re: Capcom Confirms Monster Hunter Rise Collabs With Ghosts 'n Goblins And Sonic
The fact that Regina, from Dino Crisis, has yet to appear as a skin in a Monster Hunter game is proof that Capcom genuinely hates us all.
Re: Deals: My Nintendo Store UK Adds An Accessories Bundle Prize Draw For Anyone Pre-Ordering Metroid Dread
Heads up, both the controller and case are available for pre-order in the US via Amazon. Got my orders in for both!

Oh sh*t, I forgot it was out today! I pre-ordered it from Best Buy months ago, so, yep!
Re: Random: Check Out These Mock-Ups Of Game Boy For Nintendo Switch Online
Why is it that these fan mockups so often can't even get the basics right? The formatting of that is totally wrong.
The background red is a different shade. The GB itself would be straight on, not angled. Look at how bad the blue of the GB logo is bleeding into the red...hideous.
I don't expect everyone to be a photoshop wiz, but if you're gonna do this kind of thing, at least follow the same design ethos of the UI.
Re: Talking Point: As The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Is Shut Down, Where Do You Stand On Nintendo's Takedowns?
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.3.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Pokester99 Jesus Christ, who cares?
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.3.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Pokester99 "I have an opinion people with standards share."
That's how you tell everyone you're an elitist a-hole, without telling everyone you're an elitist a-hole. Well done!
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Version 3.3.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@JaxonH I was just giving them the benefit of the doubt. I haven't seen what it looks like in handheld, as I've never undocked my Switch.
