Re: Quake Listing Appears, Including A Switch Version

Played through Quake and the mission packs again recently and loved every moment of it. A remake would certainly be an enticing prospect, but I would be worried that they would struggle to recapture the unique atmosphere. Retaining the NIИ soundtrack should be compulsory.

Re: We Can Expect More Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcases This Year

@TheFrenchiestFry Sure, I understand. I'm still catching up with PS1-era Final Fantasy so it isn't really aimed at me to be fair! I don't doubt the appeal of many of the games announced, however most of them aren't available until 2021 and a lot of them will now actually release on PS4 as well. This won't deter the early adopters, I just don't see how it convinces others to upgrade.

@playstation_king We might have to wait until the Tokyo Game Show for an update on Bravely Default II. A delay until 2021 feels almost inevitable.

Re: 13 More Games Have Just Been Confirmed For Sega's Astro City Mini Console

Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair is 50% a shooter It will probably have Thunder Force AC on it too.

Personally I could do without Puyo Puyo and two iterations of Columns, but it was almost inevitable they would be included. Overall it's looking like a very solid collection.

I would love to see more Model 1 and 2 games on there, however it seems like they are avoiding anything that didn't use conventional controls so that rules out Virtua Racing, Virtua Cop, Daytona etc.

Re: Review: Battle Princess Madelyn Royal Edition - One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

@The_Pixel_King I couldn't agree more. Offering a discount to those who bought the original game is certainly possible, The Adventures of Elena Temple: Definitive Edition has a massive discount for owners of the standard edition. I would say it's even more necessary in this case, as they are effectively admitting that there were serious issues with the non-Royal Edition.

Re: Review: Streets of Rage 4 - A Perfect Modernisation Of A Beloved Franchise

@ramu-chan Yes of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the problem is you are presenting your opinions as fact.

The art style is indeed French, which has been apparent from the teaser trailer and was inevitable given the team developing the game. If you don't like that art style then fair enough, but to say it resembles a mobile game is fatuous. All of the art has been hand-drawn in a way rarely seen these days, and hundreds more hours would have been put into this than in a mobile game or the vast majority of pixel art indie titles.

There are plenty of people who are comparing this favourably to Sonic Mania, and they are both excellent examples of how to pull off a comeback. I would argue that SOR4 is actually superior in terms of its ambition. Sonic Mania is great, but it relies too much on recycling existing assets and is merely an evolution of the concept rather than adding anything original. If we hadn't been starved of decent 2D Sonic games for 25 years this wouldn't have been so easily forgiven. If you want the equivalent of that, fortunately Streets of Rage Remake already exists.

Re: Review: Streets of Rage 4 - A Perfect Modernisation Of A Beloved Franchise

@ramu-chan From NintendoWorldReport, 'I feel that Streets of Rage 4 shares a lot in common with Sonic Mania. Both game’s were led by development teams who had the challenge of continuing classic and beloved series. I’m happy to say that the dev teams creating Streets of Rage 4 have completely succeeded in making a new 2D entry in the series much like the Sonic Mania dev teams did. The utmost respect for the source material is clear'. So that's someone who has played the game at length completely contradicting what you said.

Re: Panzer Dragoon: Remake Will Patch In Saori Kobayashi's Remixed Soundtrack

Dogtanian

@JayJ Couldn't agree more. There's so much wrong with some of these complaints, and the review on this site is rather disappointing.

Having the reticule on top is not an 'odd visual quirk', it's a deliberate design choice and is consistent with many other games in this genre.

Complaining about the brevity of the game is a little unfair, this is a remake and they were never going to add new content. Games from the '80s and early '90s would often only take 15-30 minutes to complete once you had mastered them, usually over the course of many weeks or months. This isn't an easy game, and you certainly aren't going to see the full story by completing hard mode on your first try.

For those who wish to criticise the game, I wouldn't cite the GameXplain review to justify your position. Look at the ratings and the comments for that video, the majority disagree with the reviewer and even he says that it is still a great game.
