The final batch of games for Sega's upcoming Astro City Mini console have just been revealed in a livestream, taking the total number of known games up to 36. It was also revealed that the system is getting a full-size arcade stick controller.

Still no word of this being released outside of Japan? Come on Sega.
International release Sega, please and thank you
Oh my goodness... Cotton! Fantastic news! 😆
These do look very cool, hopefully the build and emulation quality is at least decent.
A western release would be lovely but seems a bit of a long shot. Anybody have any wise words on if you could get by without being able to read Japanese for most of these titles?
Cool but I feel like the second batch of games are the weakest as most were just Sega Ages titles. Of course they had to put a Puyo Puyo game in there, hopefully the final batch would be better, I need my Virtua Fighter 2 and Thunder Blade please Sega.
Pretty sure Sonic the Fighters already got confirmed too, which would round the revealed games count up nicely to 24/36... 🤔
@Lapses I would say most of these games are not text heavy and pretty straight forward I’ve had a jap megadrive for years and never had a problem
Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
Virtua Fighter
When Sega puts more interesting games on a tiny gimmicky arcade gadget than the Switch "Sega Ages" range... >_<
EDIT - Sonic The Fighters too?!
I still play my Mega Drive Collection disc on the ps3 now and again. Great collection of titles. (note to Nintendo - still using the controllers I bought for it 7 years ago, without drift. Might be worth looking at that or any other model of first-party analogue controller ever released when making your next batch of joy cons?)
Only one Shmup so far... Hope we get more!
@gojiguy Two, in Cotton and Fantasy Zone. Though Fantasy Zone is unconventional as shmups go.
Lots of firsts here - arcade Shadow Dancer, ESWAT and Crack Down have never been re-released.
@StuartGipp True! I always forget to consider that.
Revenge of Death Adder needs an individual release. I’ve got my fair share of mini consoles already, and that’s the only title I’m interested in.
@EmmatheBest Where did you see that?
@shonenjump86 prepare to import. The Astro City arcade cabinet never got released anywhere but Japan.
I would not expect this to get released overseas.
Seems like Virtua fighter is the only model 1 game, was really hoping for more of those.
@gojiguy - GameXplain's video from a few days ago
Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair is 50% a shooter It will probably have Thunder Force AC on it too.
Personally I could do without Puyo Puyo and two iterations of Columns, but it was almost inevitable they would be included. Overall it's looking like a very solid collection.
I would love to see more Model 1 and 2 games on there, however it seems like they are avoiding anything that didn't use conventional controls so that rules out Virtua Racing, Virtua Cop, Daytona etc.
@gojiguy looks like I might have to go that route.
This is shaping up to be glorious!
This looks brilliant. But my main concern is the LCD Screen could be a bit bigger, thats a big bezel around it.
@EmmatheBest
That was for Arcade1up, not the Sega Astro City.

Pre-ordered a while back just in case Sega of America is like, "Nah, we'll be fine." It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see Sega's Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. To my knowledge it's not been ported anywhere
How can you see that?
Ooh, Bonanza Bros.! I'm fond of that one.
Already preordered it on Amazon.co.jp in a collector compulsion BUT part of the new batch of games means childhood memories to me.
Spent loads of pesetas (current money back then) on Shinobi and Shadow Dancer on Arcade and played a lot the Master System version of Bonanza Bros and ESWAT.
@JohnnyC that's because they use cheap stuff these days.. my xbox 360 controller for example still works and al buttons responses are good. But the xbox one controller.. easily broken when it falls.. they also went downhill with their quality of controller.. and yet they still charge people for the same price with even worse quality. I think Nintendo did the same move.. using cheaper stuff and still charge people more and this way forced to rebuy their products again. There's a thought put in as well... buy more from them! Broken easily and more money for them
I really hope they're holding back some big hitters for the last batch of titles.
Arabian Fight and Segasonic the Hedgehog with joystick hack would be amazing.
Cotton, ESWAT, and Shadow Dancer! Man, if I wasn't already on board...
Just waiting for Qaurtet (the 2-player variant most likely) to be announced. You can't tease the sound sample in the reveal trailer and not put it in!
@StuartGipp actually, ESWAT is on the switch genesis collection
Cant wait to have this looking well next to my MVS mini. Shadow Dancer and an all time great Shinobi. I have a full size Sega Astro cab, along with Sega Rally, Sega Noami and a few more. What a time to be alive.
Looks really nice, but personally your better off getting a raspberry pi setup. The amount of games I have from arcade to most classic systems is above and beyond.
@noswitchbutidc yep, but the Mega Drive version is totally different to the arcade original.
I love Sonic so much, but I only find 2D Sonic mildly fun at best, compared to the Adventure formula. Plus they stopped rereleasing 3&K, and tbh Sonic 1 and 2 haven’t aged well in my opinion. There so trial and error based that it turns me off from ever getting past Marble Zone and Oil Ocean. Thanks for the variety SEGA!
I hope Snow Bros gets confirmed for this, it would be very good on an arcade cabinet type device seeing as it is an arcade game.
It was released on the Japanese Mega Drive Mini so it could happen.
@sleepinglion oh yeah it hasn't. I wouldn't hold your breath, with Disney owning Lucas films and the John Williams music license it would probably have to release as a full price game to justify the licensing costs.
Apparently they released a sweet looking star wars trilogy pinball table too. Promotional for the movie set, I remember buying that VHS box set and loving the style of the packaging. The pinball table has that same feel.
Beside VR fighter 1, it looks like the same titles from Sega Genesis Classics collection on the Switch
Neat, now we need Virtua Fighter 2, Columns III, Sega Ninja/The Ninja, Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, After Burner I & II, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic the Fighters for the Sega Astro City Mini. This Sega Mini Arcade definitely needs at least one Sonic Arcade game for the System.
@Clyde_Radcliffe
I know right!
Why aren't these coming to Sega Ages line? Man, things like this really grind my gears! Getting there forgotten IP's out is a money maker so why limit themselves to a mini console.
Sega. please bring more games to the Ages line that we haven't seen a 100 times. I can see you making £££££££££$$$$$$$$$$ if you did!
Same old games yet again! Come on Sega you can do better than this.
I’m interested in this but just makes me think about how they’re handling the Switch Sega ages line. Death Adder, Virtua Fighter 2, Cotton, Shadow Dancer, Alien Syndrome and countless others SHOULD BE heading to the ages line! Wtf! I don’t understand sega’s (much as I love them) repeated stupidity over the years. The Sega ages line should just about be a never ending flow of classic Sega goodness!! Beyond Herzog Zwei, when that ever gets here, it looks like it’s over?? That’s ridiculous!! What a gyp!
Another useless toy.
@doctorhino which other Model 1 games would work on this since it has a joystick configuration?
@noswitchbutidc The arcade ESWAT Is an entirely different game.
@X68000 I probably meant some model 2 games as well, forgot daytona and a lot of saturn ones were model 2. I think virtua racing would work fine, as well as wing war for model 1 though.
@X68000 how?
@noswitchbutidc Firstly, it was based on the Shinobi game engine and had a completley different look and feel. Level design was heavily changed and soundtrack is different too.
The Megadrive game played far far better than the arcade release.
@doctorhino Had no idea about the pinball table, that sounds cool! I remember the VHS packaging for the original trilogy right before the Special Editions hit, was it like that?
@doctorhino only problem with the games you mention is that they heavily rely on analogue controls and can't imagine Sega or M2 being willing to invest in digital workarounds. System 32 software is probably a good middle ground. I doubt the CPU could emulate Model 2 anyway.
@X68000 Virtua racing came out on 32x and Saturn. Neither of them had analog options (Saturn later got one). I mean yeah those were ports but I thought you could play any game like that on Mame with a keyboard.
@sleepinglion yes, seems to be extremely rare as well
@doctorhino those were ports, this is pure arcade emulation with little else.
With digital controls its all or nothing and since these games were never made with digital controls in mind these arcade games play awfully using a stick or dpad.
On a side note, have you ever played the Tengen programmed Saturn Virtua Racing? It's the worst!
@X68000 Nah... I got the saturn pack with daytona, virtua fighter 2 and virtua cop, so never really saw a reason to go back to virtua racing from daytona. I will take your word for it. I have tried out the 32x one, it's sluggish but not the worst.
@doctorhino The 32X version played fantastically on a 60Hz system.....just wished that Sega handled the Saturn port in house rather than farming their IP out to second rate coding houses.
I pre-ordered my a month ago. So far the games list is solid! Here's my wish list for the final 13 games:
1. Outrunners
2. Arabian Fight
3. Wrestle War
4. Congo Bongo
5. Zaxxon
6. Space Harrier
7. Choplifter
8. Quartet
9. Endure Racer
10. Virtua Fighter 2
11. Burning Rivals
12. Thunder Blade
13. Afterburner 2
So far this is getting to be a bit of a weak list, the games are too old IMO. I was hoping for more 90's 3D classics.
I found some demo footage of the Astro City Mini:
https://youtu.be/23QTzBEHopc
I'm very interested!
I have the mini NEO GEO and love it. Granted, I got it on some crazy Amazon sale for $30, so at that price its a bargain. This thing looks great too...very tempted. And damn it, sold out on Play Asia...you snooze, you lose.
@doctorhino It's a real shame. I mean, you can kind of emulate the arcade title, but fans like us would likely want an official version to purchase. Same with the table. Folks could make up a VPT version, but it's just not the same
@sleepinglion yeah I have a feeling the table was expensive as hell when it came out or they would have made more. Sega and Disney have had a history though so maybe they can work it out someday.
From what I understand the companies usually make those on order and don't mass produce a whole lot to start with.
I'm probably going to Mame the trilogy game just talking about it again. It's my only hope...of playing it.
@X68000 So, the home release is the superior way to play. Got it
@doctorhino The trilogy game is a hard on to emulate. I use Supermodel, I think. It's an emulator specifically designed for the type of rom Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was. My MAMEs could never run it
This is their chance to release that 1993 sonic arcade game. Please please!

Sign my petition to get Sega to put Outrunners on the Astro City Mini.
Its japan only Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo(breaths)oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooa.
I was hoping for virtua fighter 2, but perhaps that was a bit unrealistic. Oh well, I love space harrier and I didn't think we'd get that so I think that's swell. Good bunch of stuff on here I've never played so looking forward to discovering some stuff in December.
I am surprised Rad Mobile is on there, I thought they were purposely not putting driving games on due to controls.
I would get it for Wonderboy in Monsterland alone . I have like 3 copies of that game and still don't mind if I find another copy/collection
Looks like I gotta import.
Can't wait for Nintendo to release the Sega Astro City Mini console.
With thousand of outstanding games... Sega give us those??? Only 5 or 6 fantastic game and.... *****....
Arabian Fight??? I have always wanted to play that game! Now I need this!
Quartet 2, I totally called it! But wait, Rad mobile, Arabian Fight, and My Hero? (not Acadamia) This is the best Mini for me by far!
Oh wow, it has Arabian Fight! I am a bit surprised it has Space Harrier but not Afterburner, and Rad Mobile but no other driving games. If they had managed to get Spider-Man: The Video Game, that would have made it perfect for me, but I understand that might have been difficult. Overall, a very good selection of games.
Sonic… Boom?
On looking it up, it’s not That Sonic Boom and has nothing to do with the Blue Hedgehog.
But still, that’s confusing.
That's tough. There are things I like there, but also a lot I'm not thrilled about.
If this was released overseas I'd maybe pick one up for the novelty, but this is a really, really disappointing game lineup and I can't justify the import premium to get one.
I'm so glad they didn't go all out on the obvious super scaler stuff and have included some more 2D classics. Bloody great job!
Any word on a release date?
Flicky was a pretty predictable pick, considering that it was mentioned in the original interview announcing this. Happy to see Arabian Fight on here.
@readyletsgo
December 17th of this year according to Amazon JP.
@Clyde_Radcliffe idk this a disappointment too. I mean where's virtua cop? Dynamite cops, virtua on, house of the dead? How about spike out and space Harriers? It's like Sega is stuck on its arcade games from the 80's and early 90's. And even than we NOW just getting return of death adder!
@Geostyle
Why were you expecting to play light guns games on a device that uses a 8 way joystick?
Meh Japan could have this then. As much as I want Revenge of Death Adder, the rest of the lineup failed to impress as all the games I like already got a version as a Sega Ages title. I do had to say I did like Sega's little troll there with Sonic Boom. A good arcade game too, totally forgot that this was a Sega game as it plays similar to Raiden.
@Toy_Link I meant the sega ages line in general.
Forgot I'd ordered this one , it should be with me by the 22/12/20
Looks pretty good , wonder if it can hacked?
