Re: Talking Point: The Steam Gaming Machines Are An Unconventional Challenge to the Wii U

Dogpigfish

I don't like the concept of cloud based ownership, but if it's on a secured harddrive with an instruction manual then I'm fine. I think Wii U makes digital games accessible because they can't pull the plug on ownership. What confuses me about the service hog consoles is their ability to pull the plug on ownership if they fail. What happens if Valve files for bankruptcy? We fundamentally lose everything. I'm a big fan of Valve, but even the big guys are failing and I don't see them as any different. They are simply too small and unreliable. Their service is exceptional, but I hope they sell on Wii U or PS3, because otherwise I can't support them. They should consider a Netflix like service on Wii U, then the world would be a better place.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Outlines His Evolving Role in Overseeing Projects

Dogpigfish

Miyamoto did a great job with Pikmin 3, but he is hit or miss. I thought Skyward sword was too linear, not sure why he took it in that direction. Great game, but I think he needs to better evaluate what his competitors are doing. These other developers have a lot to prove and from what I've seen don't need the guy who created wii music to analyze their game.

Re: Video: Epic Launch Trailer Shows Off The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

This is a terrific game. In comparison to Ocarina there are some pacing issues, but the cruising changes and message bottle collecting really makes this game terrific. This game is Nintendo showing off the touchpad and accelerometer. They've removed the problem and shown how aiming with control sticks is uncomfortable and can be comfortable. I wish they could alleviate this problem with Skyrim, but instead this developer will continue to use old school technology.

Re: Wii U Family Hardware Bundles Revealed in Japan

I think Nintendoland will sell better not included in the package. That was a mistake in my opinion. They should have released it with the new wii sports and sold that separately. These packages offer a lot of content, but I agree it doesn't promote people on the fence who think wii u just sells Mario games. I agree with the earlier comments that a partnership with Ubi could have paid off here. But I'm sure they'll sell fine either way.

Re: Miyamoto: Retro Studios is High on The List of Candidates For A New Metroid Game

Dogpigfish

Other M wasn't bad, but wasn't good. In fact, more of the first Metroid prime would be good. The later two became much more linear, not sure why. I think it should go to a new developer that has a lot to prove, with a passion. Retro should focus on other ip's; I think it was a good move for them. Give them Icarus or Pilot Wings that they can improve like they did with dk and samus.

Re: Out Today: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (North America)

Dogpigfish

@odd69 I think teens or young college will buy the disc; everyone else will buy the digital since it's a better value and won't break. Digital purchases are for quality titles that should expect replay value and won't be traded in. Honestly, it's too convenient and the manual can be read on the screen, not to mention no tax or some weirdo hustling me.

@Genesaur I actually look forward to Keza's reviews, but she is an impulsive gamer and will rush through everything. If you realize that, then you understand why she may score stuff lower when it requires some patience or there is a deeper emphasis around control. Her review of dark souls and Pikmin 3 are great examples of how she missed the mark because of her desire to fly through them.

Re: Video: These Sonic Lost World Bosses Look Rather Fun

@element187 That's a good point, but they've never been into the minor details like splash effects or lighting. Sega usually just focuses on gameplay and that's not always a bad thing. It is nice to see some enhanced detail in Pikmin 3 and future games looking like true next gen.

Re: Nintendo Tested Two Other Zelda Titles in HD on the Wii U

Dogpigfish

Twilight Princess had some of the greatest gameplay and dungeons, but some of the worst gameplay scenarios. The pacing was at times very slow, with constant wandering of the twilight. I think they figured out that aspect wasn't any good and abandoned it later in the game. If they do a remake, they should work on that and get it closer to ocarina.

Re: Leaked Ubisoft Games Confirmed, but Skipping Nintendo Platforms

Dogpigfish

@AG_Systems Interesting perspective, but I see Ubi desperate in a time where Indie devs are growing. Realize that when they lay off developers, many are going Indie and producing quality games. These software giants are going to need to keep their talent and buckle down if they wish to stay relevant. I don't see Ubi leaving Nintendo for this reason.

Re: Without iOS Support Nintendo "Doesn’t Reach Today’s Kids" Says Apple Advocate John Gruber

Pure dilusional hub bub. Just because you say it doesn't make it true. It would be an interesting experiment, but this isn't Coke and Pepsi. iPads do a lot of things, which makes them useful, but arguing its the best handheld gaming machine is pure fiction. It would be cool if they tried to make it a gaming machine by adding controls and some display features, but until then expect 'pop the pimple' and 'angry birds'.

Re: Review: Disney Infinity (Wii U)

Dogpigfish

Two more things, this game is basically Crackdown tailored to kids and families. Toy box is NOT minecraft. In retrospect, it's poor in delivery. The most negative part is lining up tracks and buildings as there isn't any handicap, can't be done well using a control stick. On the positive side, there are a lot of pieces to use like Little Big Planet. Maybe a watered down version of Halo Reach forge. This is a good game and well worth the $75, however expansions and figures are severely overpriced and I found that adding a different pirate served no purpose other than to play 2 player in that land. Hopefully it will be competitively priced when swap force comes out.

Re: Review: Disney Infinity (Wii U)

This is a great game, but occasionally the portal can be buggy and/or have trouble reading the tokens. From the news it appears Wii U's version is the least problematic. Would be nice to have pro controller support, but the nunchuk is fairly easy to use. This game feels rushed, but the campaigns feel polished and lengthy. I like how each campaign is fairly different, but all are open world.
