Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Recalling Wii U Basic Bundle

It's a great business strategy. They are going to reduce the price of the better set to $300 and keep 32 gig flash drive as standard to grow their online market. They may offer a larger drive for $350. This is a good move because they can advertise as a traditional console which will dominate the negative feedback regarding the always online component and soliciting practices of the new systems. It's remarkable and will continue the Nintendo dominance into the current gen. Just need more mature games to retain last gen adopters that are getting older.

Re: Talking Point: E3 2013 Is All About The Games

Dogpigfish

I want a shooter, but not another Call of Duty. Please make another Metroid 1st person shooter, that's all I want. Otherwise ill need to buy something different. Not a year old game rehash, but a bonefide shooter where the opponents are crazy aliens or creatures, or something.

Re: Shin'en: Wii U Has Enough Power For Years To Come, GPU Is "Several Generations" Ahead of Current Consoles

Dogpigfish

We've seen with recent gears offering and halo 4 that high powered graphics can be put on old technology pretty well. 2gigs of dedicated ram is more than enough to push graphics. Multitasking is the new concern and I'm not sure Ninti will require a lot of background noise, I don't see them as a profile tracker or selling your information like the other two. I've done some programming and I wouldn't claim to be an expert, but developers need to either load large portions of the engine to a harddrive or keep their code clean. If they can do that, then there isn't any reason these high powered games couldn't happen on wii u. 8 gigs of dedicated ram is for background noise in my opinion, taking the same approach as apple and monitoring activity. Wii u is not an ads machine.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U Controller Options Open Up PC Game Opportunities

Dogpigfish

I support all systems and developers, but Wii U makes me most excited based on some of the potential games coming out. I'm not a into scary games, but zombi u showed a lot of potential of what this space can provide. Using the screen in a vr setting is what everyone is waiting for. Moving it around as samua or jumping around Mario world using the accelerometers as a face is a thrill yet experienced. Well see what nintendi decides to leverage. The other big two didn't bring anything new to this generation controller, which is a bit of a disappointment. Just rehashes of the ps2 controller, or super nes controller to be completely accurate. I hope this year's e3 shows something new on the competitive side other than a rear touchpad.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U vs Xbox One - Online Requirements and On-Disc DRM

Dogpigfish

I understand the importance of sending money back to developers and not having stores fundamentally sell used copies, but I would like to get my hands on favorites which in most cases shows up at a used game shop. I don't want to buy the same copy of a game years later with a few minor tweaks. Maybe eshop concept will fix all this. What's good business in the short term isn't very good customer service in the long term.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Sold Less Than 40,000 Units In North America In April

Dogpigfish

They need to convince the fan base that Wii U is something you want in your living room even if you have something else. Wii was successful at doing that and Wii U is positioned to do that. If it had applications like ABC app or other network apps, this would fly off shelves. They need to appeal to women like the Wii did, that's how they crushed Sony in the last gen.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Identity Crisis

Dogpigfish

Sales are primarily a reflection of tax increases in the U.S. and no raises due to health care costs. GDP will be negative this year, so technology isn't all that's hurting. Sony and MS should hold off another year. When the Wii launched, the economy saw its largest growth cycles in history, largest raises and more money to blow. Wii U is a luxury, simple as that.

Re: Talking Point: Playing it Safe in Big-Budget Console Games is Stifling Creativity

Dogpigfish

If you keep rehashing the same games, you begin to compete with yourself. Current gen consoles are powerful enough and most people haven't owned a high def gaming machine for more than a couple years. The libraries already have enough bargain games similar in quality. Developers need to create a 'Starcraft' or 'Mario kart' that spans several years in sales if they hope to survive. Creativity is the only successful model.

Re: The Darksiders Series Looks To Be Over

Dogpigfish

I've seen contrary news, but they don't need the franchise to thrive. They have a highly talented art style and gameplay model, so the series isn't over. It will just be masked under a different name. Too much talent from this group at crytrek, can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U's Graphical Grunt is Laid Bare - Shall We Play Games Now?

Dogpigfish

I remember having to decide between motion controls or high definition. Now I don't have to decide. Seeing as this dilemma has now been solved, how does MS or Sony get into living rooms? More ads and selling points for third party will get more development, expect their version of next gen to be loaded with commercials much like television. I think Nintendo will remain the king for this reason.

Re: EA: Excited About New Generation Which Is "Yet to Come"

Dogpigfish

I'm not a customer of EA, so I can't really respond or care about their goals. As far as the generation, it's clear that Wii U brings something new and innovative to the world, which consumers are happy about. Seeing as Nintendo generally sells 10 fold in NA compared to Europe, we'll see a shift with higher taxes in the states and media upheaval of game violence. In my opinion, this will impact the other big 2 more than Nindy, which continues to sell games with a longer replay value.

Re: So, How Is The Wii U Doing In The UK?

Dogpigfish

Taxes have gone up substantially in the states and Americans will be cutting back. Not sure how you predict these downturns when releasing a console. Other issues are 'new normal' finances. Companies are not reaping high profits like they did in 2007. The industry is not the same.

Re: Developer Interview: Bertil Hörberg On Being a One Man eShop Developer

Dogpigfish

This article gets too many people excited about development, reality is it's very expensive and rigorous. $100 a year for IOS, upwards of $5000 for eshop and no guarantee your app will ever be published. Additionally, you must have a non subleased office, website, trademarks, business telephone and email. None of which is required on other platforms. This isn't indie.
