@NintendoArchive Nintendo console sales wise are doing good. But in the not to distant future if and when they go 4K maybe with all the bells and whistles they are going to need to employ. They take to long with old graphics and effects to create a good AAA game, let alone a full on 4K with 4K assets and texture detailed worlds in hdr, ray tracing etc. If they get to far behind in graphical world and don’t move forward and expand and grow their in house AAA team developers they will get bypassed by gamers at some point. And sometimes I think Nintendo deserves to get bypassed.
@YoungLink64 Being honest I sold my switch and have a series x now with game pass ultimate. I have had every home Nintendo console since launch but the Switch will probably be my last now. I have massively invested in the Xbox eco system and currently loving it. Also the future with them is looking seriously good. Every about the series x is top notch, yes slow with games but this fall it’s picking up and into next year. Also the big hitting third party games come to series X, so I get that joy as well., even they have to pay for them 😂
@NintendoArchive Yea not sure what Nintendo are up to just lazy to me its been a years since a very good AAA game has appeared from their in house studios. Perhaps they need to employ more, I know their studios are tiny compared to the other big guns in house and other third party studios. Yes Halo and Gears have been declining a bit. It will depend on Halo infinite to see what happens going forward and also the next Gears. Buying Bethesda etc was massive and will add so much to their studio teams, especially along with Turn 10 and playground games. I have a series x with GPU FH5 and Halo I will not have to pay out for like Doom Eternal I’m playing now and FH4. The console build form factor and GUI and operations like smart delivery and cross console save, let alone cloud gaming as well is showing Nintendo and Sony this is how it is done. When the games like FH5, Halo and others start late this year then more into next year I can see them starting to turn the tide on Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft have the trillion dollars and power and shear size to take this all the way.
@braincandy101 Xbox are starting to look like the console or company to move to. I have a series x with GPU now and no Switch. Xbox currently deserve far more credit than they are getting. But slowly as Nintendo do things like this and release no new in house AAA games and Sony keep money grabbing, Xbox is looking a far better purchase by a mile now.
If Nintendo had a dream 4K console to programme for they would never get a game out of their in house AAA studios. It takes them ages as it is, imagine adding graphical quality of say HZDFW or FH5 or last of us 2 or gears of war and all the top end 4K stuff, textures, lighting, shadows, ray tracing etc. It would ten years plus to a Zelda BOTW2 or Mario Odyssey 2. They don’t have the in house development teams big enough for it.
It’s no good giving Nintendo a powerful 4K dream machine to develop for. They have not got the numbers in studio developers to make the graphical games for a switch in house as it is. Imagine them making a Zelda or Mario of say HZDFW or FH5 graphical fidelity and quality. It would take them tens to turn any game around.
Lazy lazy lazy Nintendo, both upgrade console wise and in house studio AAA games wise. They lured me in at the beginning in 2017 and a bit beyond. But now and for a long while they have nothing to over me. I buy nothing of there’s now and have sold my Switch. Will I come running back, maybe BOTW 2, Mario odyssey 2, Mario kart 9, Bayonetta 3. They just take so long to do anything nowadays, apart from make remakes I played on the wii and wii u.
As well Nintendo being lazy and Sony becoming a bit anti consumer with upgrades etc. The only company really consumer friendly at the minute is Xbox, though the general public don’t seem to think straight when it comes to gaming as sales wise they are still third each week world wide. Hopefully when FH5 and Halo appear this year and more free upgrades and game pass adding more valve, things will pick up sales wise and make the other two, Nintendo and Sony up their game a bit more.
Obviously the time is not right for a few good reasons for an upgrade. It looks pretty and is a nice edition to the Switch family and will probably boost sales a little. For me a few more AAA in house games later this year would have been better. BOTW 2 in 2022 is a big disappointment, especially also with no new Mario odyssey, Mario kart or any real big hitter for this year from their in house studios. Nintendo have been on a slightly disappointing trend this year and seem lazy if honest.
All moaning on here, shops do the same and have put prices up during Covid. Petrol for example is scammed to hell in the UK even when oil prices drop. A can of coke at supermarket is 50p. A small shop in London £2. We are getting ripped off all the time as always.
For me I have a PS5 now in the UK. However I know many households with a Switch So at some point there is saturation in the UK market, where everyone that wants a switch has one. The new tech to have is now PS5 and a tiny bit Xbox series x but not a lot. Also it doesn’t help that we are getting fed up with no new big AAA games from in house Nintendo studios for many many months. Also the Covid factor is wearing off and we can go out more now. But overall Switch has been a great success in the UK, but product life cycle dictates and some point we don’t want to buy anymore of them.
@Eddy9000 Well I look at it like this firstly you have to have dreams 😂 On a serious note, the real in house AAA studios have not produced much recently and it will have been about 4 years and 8 months come this November 2021 since BOTW. The game engine is there and most assets from BOTW so to me it should happen. The same with Mario Odyssey, that will be fours years this October. Mario Kart was a remake with some extra tracks 4 years 8 months this November. The list goes on it’s been many many years since a big one or two in house AAA studio game. People think games like Luigi mansion 3, Yoshi etc are in house they are not they are made at 2nd party studios out sourced. Nintendo need to give us something and they owe to their fans and the 85 million switches sold. They must be extremely cash rich at the minute.
@Giancarlothomaz Monster Hunter never been that popular in the UK. Switch wise we like Mario kart, 3d Mario, animal crossing did very well and Zelda of late after BOTW. As for BOTW 2, Nintendo should have a big AAA in house game or two surely for this fall. There own in house studios, have not released much since Mario Odyssey, BOTW, splatoon etc and that was around 4 years ago, apart from remakes. People mix Nintendo 2nd party studios up with their first party studios and claim they have released games. Yoshi, pokemon, Luigi mansion 3, Kirby etc etc are all out sourced 2nd party studios. So god knows what in house studios have been doing the last 4 years.
You can’t just blame a UK variant of Covid. The UK has many different variants from all over the world. This Covid mutates quick to survive and by all accounts has hundreds of variants just like the flu does. And unfortunately it ain’t going way, and probably never will just like the flu virus.
@Mr-Fuggles777 The idea of the vaccine is to stop death just like the flu vaccine. Remember flu still kills around 12 thousand a year in the UK alone. There is no simple cure for Covid or the flu and I guess we will have to live with Covid like the flu and vaccines will help minimise the death rate. Just like with the flu you can’t lock away society and jobs forever. It’s an extremely tough call, just imagine being in charge and calling the shots on this.
@mezoomozaa You what, the UK has taken Covid more seriously than probably any other country and lead the way in vaccination and the invention of. Hence the UK declining Covid cases and slowly starting to come out of a very long lock down. Probably the only blame you could pin anything on is the the human race as a whole and the fact money seems to make the world go round.
@SpaceKaren Not to sure what point you making. Yes they will not look as good being on Switch. But I think that is my point a small switch upgrade with a bit of upscale is not good enough. It needs to be a more meaningful bigger upgrade, that delivers higher level of detail and realistic looking environments etc.
Off subject and potential talk of a very slightly more powerful switch model with some type of 4K up scaling. I play my switch docked on a top 4K 65” tv. Now most games are around 1080p I play. My point my tv does an amazing job of scaling up to the 4K picture and the games look really good. So if new Switch up scaling would probably not make much difference to me at all. Point what is the point of a slightly more powerful Switch. If you gonna do it, do a big upgrade so new games like Assassins Creed Valhalla can simply be ported across, even at 1080p with hdr. I think a silly soft slightly 4K up scaling switch is a waste of time.
Well they had ago, but wonder how much money, research and development and programme development time this wasted. When they could have spent that time making a new IP or say a Donkey Kong 3d world game, that probably would have sold and made them millions
Loved playing these on the PS3 from Sega and the Namco ones. Using the move and gun attachment. It worked very well. Hopefully they will nail this on the Switch somehow and I will buy.
@tourjeff Totally agree, I have Mario Party and they should added more boards with dlc. Has left me with a sour taste on this one, bad of Nintendo really.
@Dringo I’m still hoping for BOTW2 Christmas maybe November 2021. Thought a surprise Mario odyssey 2 instead then BOTW2 March 2022 would be even better 😂 Just hit the 5000 mark on Mario Kart online racing.
@Dringo Not sure being really honest. I guess Covid has not helped. Maybe I just yearn for BOTW2 and Mario odyssey 2 etc. It’s just they came out of the gate on release year like amazing, game after game from in house AAA studios and it’s been quiet for some time from those particular studios. Don’t get me wrong I have Yoshi and Luigi mansion 3 etc but they are not the in house AAA studio teams they are 2nd party studios. Though I think the creators of Luigi mansion 3, Nintendo did purchase recently.
@Dringo Can’t disagree with you there. And I’m a massive Nintendo fan, big PS4 games will take longer, look at the size, graphics and detail, 4K hdr etc in Horizon zero Dawn, and they developed for PS4 and PS4 Pro. If you take say Mario Odyssey or BOTW many assets etc and the game engines are there already from the first games and sounds. Like I said I’m Nintendo crazy fan had all their home consoles from day one including NES, yes I’m old. But you are letting Nintendo off a bit here.
I would rather some new AAA in house studio games. Over 4 years since BOTW. Over 4 years since Mario Kart. Sort of remake. Nearly 4 years since Mario Odyssey. Nearly 4 years since Splatoon 2.
Take out the big 2nd party games and what have Nintendo in house studios been doing.
Not sure how many employees Platinum Studios have but talk about spread yourself thin. Bayonnetta 3 probably could have been finished by now. I guess these smaller companies have to play the odds game and develop and release a few games rather than putting all their eggs in one basket.
Off subject just downloaded Bioshock 2 for Switch at £6.99. Probably the best conversation of a first person shooter on the Switch. 1080p 30fps and very clean and stable image, not like a lot of first person shooters on the Switch, low res and smeary. Also a great game and story.
I’m sure half this stuff gets made up due to lack of knowledge. Just looked at UK store Smiths Toys 15 plus available just at my local store £36.99 Also Argos UK have stock £39.99 Media should promote and publish this information so scalpers don’t get a look in.
Nintendo should make up for this and announce Mario Odyssey 2, release October 2021. Well it has been 4 long years since the first one. And with the game engine and a lot of assets already there now, it should be easy achievable.
@15roundTKO It most definitely was. I’m sad about it and frustrated at the same time. The switch launched like a rocket, but now it has nothing for me.
That’s was piss poor Nintendo. I’m gonna send out a search party for your in house game studios, I hope they are all ok. That was the worst game presentational I have every seen and I’ve seen them all. I have no other words apart from pathetic and thank you for wasting 50 minutes of my life. A skyward sword looked so old and dated. Oh well just me and the PS5 now.
That’s was piss poor Nintendo. I’m gonna send out a search party for your in house game studios, I hope they are all ok. Trying to lower my expectations on this. But then again we have had no big new AAA from NINTENDO in house studios for ages. Most big games are fours old now from in house. They must have some ready to go this year surely. For me this year for Switch is a do or die year so let’s see what happens. Xbox have already lost my game pass this year and series x. So it’s PS5 and Switch currently, so I’m hanging on to this direct tonight for sure, else the Switch might follow the series x and game pass down the road.
@Serialsid One good thing is Nintendo and Sony and the Japanese government would never let them touch them and their in house studios so that’s good news. And we know Sony and Nintendo games are the best there is.
At the end of the day gamers. We need Nintendo, we need Sony. Hopefully competition will keep them both on the straight and narrow and it will benefit us the gamer. As for Microsoft that’s the monopoly company we really need to worry about, buying up loads of studios and possibly creating that monopoly. They should make their own studios not steal so many third party ones.
Don’t get me wrong. I just dream of a BOTW 2 in lavish graphical world with 4K, hdr, maybe ray tracing and super intelligent AI, Dolby surround etc etc. But like that’s never going to happen 😢
Additionally playing Bowsers Fury docked on my 65” top tv as good as the tv is. 720p is really starting to show the limits of the console. I mean for today’s standards the game is nothing graphically really and it’s hardly a open world.
In my option Nintendo have hit their in house studios lazy time, like they always do with there home consoles. But they can afford to, Switch sells loads no matter what, remember though Nintendo, resting on your laurels can bite you bad in the end.
@michellelynn0976 Let’s not get to carried away have owned every Nintendo console. And currently I’m slightly Disappointed. We have not had NEW AAA big hitting game from Nintendo in house studios for ages. At the beginning it was amazing BOTW, Mario Ods etc from in house. But last year from in house was weak and so far this year is. Mario 3d world played on the wii u, it’s just another remake. You are letting Nintendo in house studios off very lightly.
All I will say is, some new AAA in house studio games please Nintendo, 2020 was a drought from the in house teams. Not sure what they doing but let’s have a couple of NEW AAA in house big hitters please.

Re: Talking Point: What We're Hoping To See In Today's Nintendo Direct
Trying to lower my expectations on this.
But then again we have had no big new AAA from NINTENDO in house studios for ages.
Most big games are fours old now from in house.
They must have some ready to go this year surely.
For me this year for Switch is a do or die year so let’s see what happens.
Xbox have already lost my game pass this year and series x.
So it’s PS5 and Switch currently, so I’m hanging on to this direct tonight for sure, else the Switch might follow the series x and game pass down the road.
Re: Reminder: Nintendo Switch Online Gets Four New SNES And NES Games Today
Yes yes well done.
Let’s have some new AAA on the direct tonight please Nintendo.
Re: A Day-One Update For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now Live (Version 1.1.0)
@Serialsid
One good thing is Nintendo and Sony and the Japanese government would never let them touch them and their in house studios so that’s good news. And we know Sony and Nintendo games are the best there is.
Re: A Day-One Update For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now Live (Version 1.1.0)
Re: A Day-One Update For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now Live (Version 1.1.0)
Don’t get me wrong.
I just dream of a BOTW 2 in lavish graphical world with 4K, hdr, maybe ray tracing and super intelligent AI, Dolby surround etc etc.
But like that’s never going to happen 😢
Re: A Day-One Update For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now Live (Version 1.1.0)
Additionally playing Bowsers Fury docked on my 65” top tv as good as the tv is.
720p is really starting to show the limits of the console. I mean for today’s standards the game is nothing graphically really and it’s hardly a open world.
Re: A Day-One Update For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now Live (Version 1.1.0)
In my option Nintendo have hit their in house studios lazy time, like they always do with there home consoles. But they can afford to, Switch sells loads no matter what, remember though Nintendo, resting on your laurels can bite you bad in the end.

@michellelynn0976
Let’s not get to carried away have owned every Nintendo console. And currently I’m slightly
Disappointed.
Re: Talking Point: So, What Are The Chances We'll See A 'New' Nintendo Switch In 2021?
All I will say is, some new AAA in house studio games please Nintendo, 2020 was a drought from the in house teams. Not sure what they doing but let’s have a couple of NEW AAA in house big hitters please.
