UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 17th April, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has slipped from last week's top spot.
Once again, New Horizons finds itself toing and froing with FIFA 21; EA's popular footie sim reigns supreme this week with most sales coming from the PS4 version.
Elsewhere, though, Nintendo's had another stellar week in the UK. Five of the top ten are exclusive to Switch (that's including Minecraft which, in the data below, only includes sales of the Switch version specifically), and Monster Hunter Rise is still doing well in seventh.
For anyone interested in Super Mario 3D All-Stars' steady decline since being officially discontinued, the compilation landed in 20th spot this week, down from 11th.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
2 | 1 | FIFA 21 |
1 | 2 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
4 | 3 | Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury |
3 | 4 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
5 | 5 | Minecraft (Switch) |
7 | 6 | Grand Theft Auto V |
6 | 7 | Monster Hunter Rise |
10 | 8 | Assassin's Creed Valhalla |
- | 9 | Cyberpunk 2077 |
8 | 10 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War |

How can you tell its an UK chart?
Fifa is number one
Battle of the million sellers!
@ok1 we do, but we think GTA 5 is a good game worthy of this strong support for all these years. Can’t wait to buy it on PS5 and Switch.
I assume everyone in the UK owns at least 3 copies of GTA 5 by this point.
@AlphaElite Owning three copies of GTA V is mandated by law in the UK for all console and PC owners. As well as owning at least five copies of the latest FIFA and CoD.
Grand Theft Auto VI could come out and Grand Theft Auto V would still be above it in the charts
It's like Fifa, Animal Crossing, Minecraft and GTAV have formed some sort of super league!
You Brits need to stop buying FIFA every year.
I wonder if the European Super League would deal a blow to the FIFA games, since presumably those teams couldn't be in it.
@GrailUK
A million upticks

You have to buy a copy of GTA each time you leave the house. It's the only obvious explanation.
Of course FIFA is there. I am convinced that there are two laws about FIFA in the UK. First: All UK citizens who can afford it, are required by law to buy a copy every other year, and second, they are forbidden from discussing this law online for fear of capital punishment.
Don't worry my UK friends, I am sure one day you will be free. Don't lose hope!
@Heavyarms55
I’m UK and I don’t buy FIFA, give Mario 3d world any day. And of course BOTW 2.
@Dezzy70 Shhh the Queen's spies are everywhere! They'll come for you!
@Heavyarms55
Bring on the spies, I have a power mushroom and a Hyrule shield.
@Dezzy70 but we don't know yet when Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release(problaby in early/fall 2022).
WOW Fifa must be quite popular in UK, every week i see a Fifa game in the top spot in the UK sales charts and sadly Monster Hunter Rise is a flop in UK.
@AlphaElite no FIFA sell well because British love football/soccer, like Brazilians.
Screw FIFA. I want the new Super League game.
@Giancarlothomaz
Monster Hunter never been that popular in the UK.
Switch wise we like Mario kart, 3d Mario, animal crossing did very well and Zelda of late after BOTW. As for BOTW 2, Nintendo should have a big AAA in house game or two surely for this fall.
There own in house studios, have not released much since Mario Odyssey, BOTW, splatoon etc and that was around 4 years ago, apart from remakes.
People mix Nintendo 2nd party studios up with their first party studios and claim they have released games.
Yoshi, pokemon, Luigi mansion 3, Kirby etc etc are all out sourced 2nd party studios.
So god knows what in house studios have been doing the last 4 years.
@Giancarlothomaz monster Hunter a flop?? You serious? Do one 😂
The UK sales charts really are the most depressing industry metric to view. I would rather look at global Wii U hardware sales chart for 2014 than look at a current UK software sales chart; I click on the link like I would stare at a car crash in passing. I like a little Grand Theft Auto from time to time, but let's not get too wild, here. Football, Calladoodoo and GTA Online can only do so much for you as the years tick by. Play some Zelda once in a while, treat yourself.
I'm trying figure out how people are still buying GTA5 at this point in those kinds of numbers considering it has been out for almost a decade.. Though I could probably say the same for Mario Kart 8...
Get used to seeing GTA 5 in the sales chart when it launches (again) on current gen consoles later this year. I doubt many countries top 10 would be much better than what's on offer here. You'd just be swapping generic British sports game for generic (insert your country here) sports game. Call of duty will be there as well. Mario Kart 8 is the only one I have on this list.
@Wexter don't know if it's wid espread but having two teenage kids I have heard numerous stories of friends consoles breaking or being sold and re bought and GTA 5 being bought again, often digitally. I have asked why they haven't just transferred their old account and recovered their games? Apparently for some folk it's just easier to drop another 60 quid on a game.
@Outerdragon i expected Monster Hunter Rise to stay in top 3 in the following weeks, not drop to 7th to 10th place in the UK sales charts.
@Fandabidozi
"Does anyone even play football anymore?"
I don't even like football / soccer.
I like Boxing / Kickboxing.
@Giancarlothomaz that’s doesn’t make it a flop🤦♂️
@MarzipanD digital sales aren't included in this chart, so that wouldn't explain why GTA5 still appears in it regularly.
I remember when the UK was considered a lost cause for Nintendo - like for multiple decades, the country was - in the best of times - decidedly lukewarm about Nintendo. The Switch seems to have finally hit the Anglo-sweet spot tho.
@Andy_Witmyer
The SNES, GameBoy, DS and Wii were huge in the UK but I’m not sure how that translated into the sales charts though. But definitely great to see Switch games riding high. 🥳
