If the rumors are true, they will most likely announce the rumored Classic Collection and the port of Sonic Colors. Maybe also some information to the comics and the movie sprinkled in as well.

@Phenzy They aren't making a sequel as Christian Whitehead had no association with them anymore. The dude made them a fan game and collect his due and that's it. If you love Sonic Mania though go buy Freedom Planet, it's basically Sonic Mania in all but names.

I'd love a sequel to the Sonic Colors franchise (specifically made by the team who created that game), or a 3d game led by Christian Whitehead (Sonic mania creator).

@DevinRex Christian Whitehead doesn't like 3D Sonic, he's only a fan of sprite base 2D Sonic games.

I'm guessing the collection will have the main genesis games, Sonic R and 3D Blast, and some game gear games.

@Ghost_of_Hasashi Even so, I have a hell of a lot more confidence in Whitehead's attempt at a 3d game than anything the Sega team can create.
They've set the bar so low already with past 3d sonic games. The only way is up at this point.

Only exception is Sonic Colors. Game was a masterpiece. I'd have them make a new 3d sonic game any day. Apparently that group of folks were the cream of the crop at SEGA, and it showed.

Judging by this trailer I think Sega will focus in bringing Sonic more into the multimedia scene. You know comics, movies, TV shows, etc. I mean, Sonic was this since his creation, but I think this upcoming new era will put the focus on that even more. We had the Classic Era, the Adventure Era, the Modern Era, the Boom, Era, and now we will enter the Multimedia Era.

Since the movie was such a huge hit, I wouldn't be surprised if elements from the movie are now part of the official canon and will find their ways into the games. Some young folks might see the movie version as their first encounter of the hedgehog.

@Kirbo100 This is my guess too. They're probably kicking themselves for not having a game to tie in to the first movie and don't want to miss that potential pay day again with hype for the second movie around.

I'm calling it now, Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine 2 will be the surprise announcement.

@Phenzy Unlikely since they're apparently moving away from the Classic/Modern Sonic division outside of merch. Not to say they won't make any more 2D games (even the "3D games" in the last decade have been more 2D than 3D), but they won't be in the style of Mania.

Cool. I haven't cared too much about most recent Sonic titles aside from Mania and the racing titles but these recent rumors have me intrigued. If an HD remake of Colors is coming, I'd be super stoked as I heard that's a great game and I'm sure it would look stunning at higher resolutions.

A collection game also interests me but it depends on what's included. The 2D games have been re-released a ton of times so if that's all it would be, then I'd probably pass. However, a 3D collection with the Adventure titles and maybe Heroes or something would be really enticing.

I'm also curious if we will see anything new. I'm always cautious about 3D Sonic announcements but who knows, maybe they could make it work. And a Sonic Mania 2 would be really cool. I'll be tuning in.

@Slowdive Hahahahahahaha... I must say, however innocent and understandable your comment here is, after reading all these threads for the past several months, filled with impatience and rancour about delayed games and a lack of content, I don't want to hold anything back from people.

The 30 second mark of that trailer sounded like the Avengers Infinity War (or maybe it was Endgame?) trailer music. Haha. I can't wait for the news. I've got that day off for a dentist appointment, so hopefully the news will be good once I return to cheer me up (pretty sure I'm dealing with a cracked tooth, and its super painful).

My predictions: Sonic Colours HD, ports of Adventure 1 and 2, Unleashed and Generations on the Switch and a compilation of the Retro Engine remakes of the 2D Sonic games.

Does anyone actually want a new sonic game? All the comments I see are hoping for ports and remasters.

@Sourcecode I've always thought that the worlds of Sonic were nicer and the music better. Sonic is a hedgehog saving other animals. I found that very cool when I was a kid, and still do. I don't know about US or Japan but Mega Drive was as popular as SNES in UK & EU.

Mario has Super Mario World, which is one of my favourite games ever and that will never change (recent Mario games are mediocre in comparison) but Sonic is very cool. Tails, too.

@LouBlu08 That would make me happy to finally have Sonic 3 & Knuckles on Retro Engine in 16:9 HD. Remasters/remakes of the 3D Sonic games would be welcome, too. Most of them are SD 30fps.

Sonic Adventure 3/1+2 remakes have been so highly requested, that I hope it's part of it. Long overdue Sega!

I would hope to see and almost expect at the very least:
1) A new Sonic collection (and not the rehash from the cube Xbox and ps2) with additional and/or more recent games like Dreamcast Sonic Adventure 1&2
2) A remastered Sonic game be it Sonic Heroes, Generations or Colors
3) Dare I say a brand new Sonic entry?? Maybe based on the Sonic Movie??

@BlueOcean I was a Nintendo kid in the late 90s, but I had a chance to play Sonic 1 back in 97 (unaware of the console wars that was going on, became aware around the GC/PS2/Xbox days).
While I found Sonic 1 tedious when I played it, I liked the character and the world, so much that I was glad I could play Sonic on Nintendo consoles when Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was released on the Gamecube and moreso when I got Sonic Mega Collection.

@HammerGalladeBro Yep, the Sonic Mega Collection (on GC) was the first time I owned a Sonic game (collection). I was so excited.

They are going to announce their new console, codenamed Yazuka, which will not be compatible with Nintendo games and also the new Sonic 3D VR glasses on which you can play the new game "Sonic in the great northwest".

Or it could be a reboot of something.

Man this week is like a mini e3! First monster hunter tomorrow than sonic, horizon forbidden west, and dying light 2 news all on Thursday, and as a fan of all of these series, this week is awesome.

Maybe SEGA will be generous and provide us with an announcement of the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character. Knowing them, it would be a Sonic rep. It just fits.

Another crappy 3D game, ports of older games, and probably some collections (for the 20th time). YAWN.

@TryToBeHopeful Don't encourage the scalpers to go after Sonic the Hedgehog, as well! He's already a worthless enough brand as it is, and I'd like to be able to pre-order the stuff while it's still available. No need to escalate him into a hot commodity.
