Re: Feature: 12 Nintendo Games That Deserve An HD-2D Remake

Deady

I have a hard enough time with this visual style as is, I definitely wouldn’t want to try it in (occasionally) fast paced games like Zelda or Metroid.

I’ve read two articles here today and seen the word “stunning” four times. I’m tired of this word.

Re: Random: Original Resident Evil Actors Have Reunited After 26 Years

Deady

The hunt for those actors has been such a task over the years. The physical actors in the FMV scenes didn’t do the voice overs and were only credited by their first names. I think there was also a coincidence where the voice actor who played Barry was also named Greg and caused mass confusion. (Or his name was actually Barry, I can’t remember)

Either way it’s cool to see them together. I’d read excerpts from an interview with Greg where he talked about how unhappy Inezh was during the muggy nighttime shoots for the opening cinematic. Apparently they were all being devoured by mosquitoes.

Resident Evil was my first PlayStation game and I have played it 57,000,000 times.

1: Take character names from an existing intellectual property
2: Write something almost completely unrelated using those character names
3: ?????
4: Fail

It takes skill to adapt an existing story to work well in a different medium. See - To Kill a Mockingbird, The Godfather, Rosemary’s Baby (an almost word for word adaptation of the novel, right down to what characters wear and eat in certain scenes), The Princess Bride, The Lord of the Rings. It takes a wizard to take an existing story and turn it on its head in a way that is thought provoking and effective. See - Dr Strangelove, The Shining, Apocalypse Now. It takes far less skill to give up on adaptation and just write your own garbage using familiar names and settings to get your foot in the door.

@AstroTheGamosian @Fath I’m a Banderita man myself. I could seriously sit here and eat the giant fajita size flour tortillas or the corn tostadas with nothing on them but I only use actual tortillas for special occasions now. I’m old enough and I’ve had a bad enough relationship with food that I have to keep an eye on myself.

These days I mainly use Joseph’s wraps and pitas with my breakfasts and lunches. They’re some weird hippy crap made of flax and oat bran and happy thoughts, so they have a nice balance of protein, carbs, and fiber. They never go bad, they never tear each other, and each unit only has 60 calories.

Re: Nintendo To Reduce Switch Packaging By 20% To Combat Supply Issues

Deady

I work in a retail warehouse and I’ve found it odd for a while that the OLED model fits six in a case and the original switch only fits five. That big packaging looked nice on its own but just ugly next to the OLED packaging.

My only problem is that I can spot these full cases on the receiving line from far away despite the fact that they don’t have any identifying features as Nintendo product and now I’m going to have to get an eye on the new type to make sure they’re handled correctly.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon

Deady

The JP box is way too busy. The NA/EU box has enough going on while keeping a focus on Nathan and the Castle, it’s eye catching and striking. The JP box, while pretty, doesn’t seem focused enough to grab the attention of an uninitiated passing customer. I think the yellow color of the English title logo stands out more than the red as well.

Re: PSA: It Looks Like Copies Of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Are Out In The Wild

Deady

@Silly_G I received around a thousand copies of this game at work Monday. I had to walk away from the pallet briefly and made sure to count them again when I came back. We have security and camera cover is heavy but yeah theft is entirely possible. Theft might be more common at stores than at the warehouse level. At the warehouse we are overpaid and our benefits are great.

Re: Soapbox: Games Go Down Better When Paired With Books, Movies, And TV, Just Like Wine

Deady

You recommended The Song of Achilles last year and I picked it up right before a trip, nearly burst into tears on the first page and decided to hold off. Once I’ve read everything I can by Michael Moorcock and have time clear to feel even more awful than usual I’m going back to Song. I’ve read other versions of the Iliad and Odyssey and I’ve been into various mythologies since I was a kid, and I have the Iliad and the Odyssey translations by Fagles on standby.

I was deeply disappointed with the Witcher book series (yes I am aware that it came first) to the point where I don’t care about the game anymore even though that got me to pick up the books.

For wine I suggest damn fine cab called Ed by Edmundo from Argentina. Sounds like madness but this is $10 wine that tastes in the $50-60 range. With that said, I’ll usually just take a few stouts myself.

Re: Target Announces Pre-Orders For Extremely Cute Pokémon Advent Calendar

Deady

@Ogbert I’m guessing the sizes look strange in the photo because it’s likely a composite and not a picture of an arranged setting. Kind of like how movie posters never look quite right. That or 2” refers to a sort of baseline or average for scaling.

I did just recently see some toy advent calendars come through receiving at work but not many, and not these ones. We’re primarily working through literal tons of back to school stuff.

Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Is Nintendo's First Mobile Game To Pass $1 Billion In Spending

Deady

@SteamEngenius I’m not into this model of gaming but I agree with you. I’ve spent plenty of money over the years going to live music, movies, broadway shows, sporting events or going down to play craps with no expectation of winning. This is pure walletburn with no physical lasting value, but a great time while it’s happening.

Nothing lasts, take the good times where you can get them.

Re: Watch: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase

Deady

I’m most surprised and very much looking forward to mega man battle network collection.

The railroad game looks good, DQ treasures maybe, I don’t know what captain velvet meteor is but it looks cool, Harvestella 50/50.

I have P5R on ps4/5 and all the old ones on ps3 but I might dip into 3/4 depending on price.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 25th)

Deady

Figuring out emulation on xbseries and bouncing around all of these for minutes at a time trying to lock into something: Invisible Inc, Nowhere Prophet, Neoverse, Disco Elysium, Turtles, and Sega ages Phantasy Star. I want to restart Xenoblade 2 and finish it some time this year.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 18th)

Deady

Getting every “Most KO” and “Longest Combo” online as April O’Neill in Turtles.

Bits of Neoverse Trinity edition here and there. Despite reviews it runs fine on switch and the controls aren’t horrible.

Reading more Michael Moorcock, now on Behold the Man before returning to Von Bek. I recently secured a very rare signed, fine condition hardcover first edition Stealer of Souls from 1963 to go with my 1965 Stormbringer. This is Elric’s first appearance in book form, and this copy may be the ultimate Black Sword collectible. (There is an argument to be made for Yoshitaka Amano’s Elric statue)

Re: It's Time To Throw Hands: AAA Clock Is Getting Five New DLC Clocks

Deady

I recently had a power outage and still haven’t bothered resetting the clocks on my stove or microwave, just my coffee machine. Then, I also had to format my PS5 extended storage drive, delete all the PS4 games that somehow got shunted from it to the console, then redownload all of them to the usb. I started that on Wednesday morning and it’s still going.

The switch maintained its power and storage, and clock (!!!) because it has portable powah.

So yes, clocks. Clocks everywhere.

Re: Review: The Hand Of Merlin - Roguelite Strategy That Grabs Hold Of You

Deady

The concept of an eternal spirit working universe to universe to keep everything from falling apart is straight out of Moorcock, so I’m in. The story intro actually mentions the holy grail mending the fabric of the existence, which is the basis of The Warhound and the World’s Pain. The visuals are smelly but they don’t need to be great in tactical. I’ll be splitting time between this and Turtles for a bit.

Re: 'The Hand Of Merlin' Looks Like Heaven For Fans Of Intricate Strategy

Deady

@KateGray I somehow missed this article and was just looking at the listing on the eshop. This caught my eye, “There are as many worlds as there are stars in the sky. In each stands Camelot; in each there is a Grail, but there is only one Merlin and his eternal burden is to stand against the horror from beyond. Each world that is saved is saved forever, each world that is lost is lost for good.”

This is straight out of Moorcock and I’m so ready for it.

When I backed out of the game information the eshop list refreshed and the game was gone, because it had released while I was reading. I’ll take this as a sign from the multiverse and buy immediately.

Also, Banner Saga will smash your heart to pieces.
