Re: Feature: The Saddest Games On Switch - Games To Make You Cry

Deady

If you play Senua’s Sacrifice, do it with headphones. Then watch all the behind the scenes videos. That is a powerful and important game, made by people who care.

@UltimateOtaku91 For real, X and X2 still get me. Just hearing the first few notes of X’s ending theme is tough.

Re: Video: Do You Own A Video Game So Rare That You Can Never Actually Play It?

Deady

Any rare games I’ve owned were bought when they were readily available and I played the hell out of them. I sold a lot of my dusty stuff last year including the gameboy advance Metroids and Castlevanias, PS1 Silent Hill, and a bunch of others.

I have some hard-ish to find books I’ve been collecting this year. The original paperbacks of Michael Moorcock’s eternal champion books of Elric, Corum, Erekose, and Hawkmoon have set me back a bit. Plus I’ve bought more than one version of some of them to have the various beautiful cover artwork. The main reason I wanted them, though, was because the stories are so wonderful that they deserved to be read on paper and not a ripped pdf.

I’m now in possession of a first edition hardcover 1965 copy of Stormbringer in excellent condition, inscribed and signed by the author. Considering his age and the way things are now I don’t see him doing any events anytime soon, and I like to think about how this copy he had his hands on so many years ago somehow passed through people and places and time to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 14th)

Deady

I usually work Sat/Sun/Mon but I took this week(end) off. I finished Elden Ring a while ago but I’m still picking at it a bit on a second character. I’m also still tackling SMT 4 on 3ds and jumping in and out of the other handheld games I got on sale.

I am sadly almost done with Michael Moorcock’s whole Eternal Champion sequence. I started with Elric months ago and got swept away and hunted down all the original paperbacks for Elric, Corum, Hawkmoon, and Erekose. I only have Corum 4-6 and a later Elric (Revenge of the Rose) left to read. I have a bunch of Champ saga adjacent books ready to go (Von Bek and Jerry Cornelius series) along with some unrelated Moorcock works. For my birthday I treated myself to a hardcover 1965 first edition signed copy of Stormbringer and my wife got me the gorgeous hardcover graphic novel adaptations of Elric.

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th May (North America)

Deady

Even if I don’t end up playing Rifftrax the game I’ll buy it to support them. I love them and they’ve been part of my life for, oh my god, almost thirty years taking into account the Mystery Science Theater 3000 days.

@Pak-Man Of course after reading “Car Parking Simulator” my first thought was “James Nguyen’s videogame directorial debut”

Two stunnings and a legendary, and it’s only Monday!

@daichi42 Nice. 12 has always gotten a bit of a bum rap but I find it to have an interesting multilayered story. The lore of the espers reveals parallels between their struggle and that of Cid and Venat against the Occuria, and, I think, intensifies the drama of the main characters’ stories.

I also found the relationships (especially the Basch/Gabranth and Vayne/Larsa dynamics) particularly moving. Throw in a grade A script and excellent voice acting and boom, it’s great.

Re: Review: Kirby And The Forgotten Land - A Breezy Delight With Mario-Level Invention

Deady

“Kirby's little buddies have been captured by the villain of the piece — a villain who shall remain nameless here — and stuck into cages that are hidden all around the Forgotten Land, a land through which you must now jump, glide, motorboat, rollercoast and... eh... yeah, whatever it is he's doing with that vending machine, in order to rescue each and every one of your imperilled pals whilst dishing out a right royal doing to the expansive roster of bosses as you go.“

I don’t know why but I just love this sentence and I want to marry it.

Re: Talking Point: Should We Still Be Pre-Ordering Games?

Deady

I don’t preorder digital games. I don’t know the point. I also generally don’t buy AAA/$60 games digital.

GameStop, for decades, has determined their total stock of a given game by the number of preorders received. Generally for every preorder of a given game, the store would receive three copies. So preordering helps give a mini boost to the profile of any game you’re interested in. GameStop also usually has bonus trade value toward new releases through the first week of release. If it’s something I know I’ll play for sure I preorder it just to get my trades out of the way so I can pick up and split in a second on release day, otherwise I’ll read reviews and go in the first week.

Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Can't Stop Chaos As Stranger Of Paradise Takes Top Spot

Deady

Yo Chaos, I heard you like killing Chaos, so we killed Chaos in your killing Chaos. The characters in Stranger all look like they’re from different games, and all from two generations ago, making the cutscenes a real struggle to sit through even before you get to that dialogue, which is like Devil May Cry taking itself all the way seriously. The combat is fine but I’ll wait until it’s on sale for 20 or less, if I ever get it.

I’m playing Elden Ring until baseball season starts, then it’s “Switch between Pitches” with Triangle Strategy until the Mets are done. Arceus is just waiting to be traded in, I can’t see myself playing it again.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Is Apparently Coming To Nintendo Switch

Deady

@Not_Soos Except it’s not Harry Potter in name, it’s Hogwarts Legacy in name.

Anyway I’m not into this series but my wife is. She plays some games but prefers to watch me play the big ones so she can dig the story and help with the decision making. Think this might be the one to get her onto the PS5, unless her laptop can run it.

Re: Feature: 5 Accessibility Features That Every Game Should Have

Deady

For me, being able to remap controls off of the joystick buttons (L3/R3 for PlayStation players) is huge. Those tend to be harder for me to press with constantly tired hands and past wrist injuries, plus, putting those controls on regular buttons takes a bit of wear and tear off of the sticks.

Re: Scathing Report Suggests All Is Not Well At Team17 Following NFT Backtrack

Deady

@JaxonH I just want to point out that that’s friggin fantastic, and I’m happy for you. Good jobs rule. I work in a retail distribution center and two of my warehouse leads started as temps and one of my operations managers started as a regular floor worker, and that’s just in my department/shift. Plus I was offered a chance to start moving up after five months as a floor worker.

Re: Chrono Cross Is Getting A Remaster, And Boy Does It Look Rough

Deady

I’ve been playing straight ports of PS1 games on my PS3 all week and this looks brilliant. This is a very strange complaint article and why it mentions Live A Live at all is lost on me. Does the author want Chrono Cross remade as HD2D? Eh.

This is a remaster. It’s better than a port and less than a remake. I’d rather pay $20 for this than $60 for god knows what, and I’ve already paid $10 for the original on PS3 eshop. While we’re at it give me Brave Fencer Musashi and Parasite Eve.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 'Second Wind' Expansion Mod Adds Brand New Hinox King Boss Battle

Deady

@Stocksy Not to get totally off track here but Mandalorian might not be the best example. Disney owns Star Wars and can, unfortunately, twist it into any grotesque shape they want.

Fortunately, they’ve kept Dave Filoni onboard through the change from Lucas to Disney. Dave Filoni has worked directly with George Lucas for years and is one of the main people creating (producing, writing, directing at various times) screen time with Star Wars’ heart intact.

So Mandalorian is both created by the IP owners and managed by a (mostly very well trusted and beloved) Lucas disciple. Now I’m off to buy coffee and toilet paper. Happy new year.
