Re: Nintendo Switch Chip X-Ray Suggests The Console Is Running A Stock Nvidia Tegra X1

DatDog

@Dm9982 there is quite a few of those external boxes around. Nearly every laptop manufacturer has one in the works. Advantage with the Switch is that it's not trying to power a full 1080 over USB3! But an X2 chip or even just a smaller discreet graphics chip should function okay.

I'd bet the earliest we hear about it is the end of this year. Right now they will be focused on just getting Switch into as many hands as possible. I'd say it's a safe bet they will do the "Dock Pro" first - and then in two years or so, have it bundled as standard with the "Switch Pro".

But that's all speculation so just going to have to wait and see. Right now the Switch is an awesome little powerhouse and I just want more games!

Re: Nintendo Switch Chip X-Ray Suggests The Console Is Running A Stock Nvidia Tegra X1

DatDog

@Spoony_Tech to be fair - reports are already saying the new 10 Gflops PS4 will be out in 2018. Sony will have already milked consumers twice before we get milked again. (Edit: also forgot about the Xbone S and soon Scorpio - so 3 for MS too!).

Screw phone updates though! They do nothing these days.

To be honest - I'll be very happy if the Switch stays the same for a few years and they just release a more powerful dock for rock solid 1080p/60fps on everything (and 4K for those who have it).

Re: Rumour: Batman: The Telltale Series May Be Coming to Switch

DatDog

@NintySnesMan for now it's the sad truth.. And let's face it - with every retail release hitting the eShop as well that will never change. But we need more physical releases for those who aren't hardcore gamers and don't know about the eShop.

For me - it's also the sharing. The only thing I miss for my Xbone is the buy once and share with someone else (one of my kids). Buying physical I can share between the house (and buy multiples when it comes to games like Mario Kart) but buying just digital for me is no longer an option with a partner and kids who also game with me or want it play along side me.

Soon see though - we do have a lot of physical releases coming too they are just further down the horizon.

Re: Rumour: Batman: The Telltale Series May Be Coming to Switch

DatDog

@ElGrego Okay I know I said "already" but let's be clear, it's not even two weeks old yet and we have more digital games than physical releases with plenty more digital coming not just this month, but next as well.

Between the 6 neo geo games, Blaster Master, Vorez, The farming sim, 2x Shovel Knights, Othello, Fast RMX (and I know I'm still missing a couple) - and we have even more digital games this month coming. Another King of Fighters has been announced, Has-Been Heroes and Binding of Isaac just off the top of my head and I'm sure there is more.

My point stands though (and I'll edit it to Be a bit more clear) we have a fair few digital releases (and plenty more coming). What we need is more physical releases now.

Re: Rumour: Batman: The Telltale Series May Be Coming to Switch

DatDog

I'd personally rather see them port over completed series "and physically" for the Switch right now. We already have a lot of downloadable games, and I personally haven't gotten Tales of Borderlands or Walking Dead season 2 yet - and would rather buy them both complete and physically.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Runs At 60fps In 1080p When Docked

DatDog

@liveswired yes it was dumb as in it was big and bulky (and I still loved it). And no - the gamepad does have its own processor to deal with all the inputs and information being sent too and from the console and GPU.

How much processing power do you actually think it takes to render a "static" map with dots that move overit?? Let me tell you - nothing. There was no form of console overhead where there was "magically" more power the console had because of that touch screen. There is a reason it was used in nearly all cases for maps, inventory and other things. Because it had the extra CPU and hardware designed to deal with this.

Yes it is kinda of like snap - in that resources are tied up to enable its use. But unlike the Wii U - the Xbone had to use only the CPU assets it was given. Again, the Wii U had tailored hardware to deal with streaming, as well as an extra CPU for processing extra information.

Get your head out of the clouds - there is nothing that gamepad was doing that stopped MK8 from going above 720p. Only the hardware limitations of the system.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Runs At 60fps In 1080p When Docked

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE actually playing on the second screen wasn't taxing. You are aware that while the Wii U did all the major graphical grunt, the gamepad had its own processor to deal with some of the workload, right?? RIGHT?? And that the transferring of video from Wii U to gamepad was all hardware based so didn't actually alter performance?

So what's your point? The Wii U gamepad didn't alter performance and the Switch version runs better on Better hardware. Is that it?

Re: Nintendo Switch Wi-Fi Issue Could Be Why Your Games Keep Dropping Frames

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE it has an overall better design and is lightning quick compared you Wii U, Xbone and PS4. The OS is fluid and fast which is what you want.

I'm trying to see your point, but all I can see you do is point to factors why the Wii U was slow and sluggish and what Nintendo did to make the user experience better. And when was the browser part of the "OS" that made it so slow?

Let's not forget how much processing power the Miiverse and Wii U start up screen required! So many polygons and textures being pushed there /sarcasm.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

DatDog

@skywake if only everyone used common sense like you and a lot of others here. Its funny to see all these articles believing and attributing it to cart cost - but as you said even Zelda was the same price on both platforms.

It comes down to one thing - cash grab by publishers to make extra money while they don't have to compete with many other titles on store shelves.

I'm excusing Rime (as you could guess) as they paid an outside Studio to produce he Switch version (Tantalus in Aus).

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE completely agree with you. This is simply coming down to publishers getting greedy - after all the cards are made by the same company who produce the 3DS ones.

Rime in my mind may be the only excuse to pay more as they are shelling out for another Studio to produce the Switch port. Even then it should be absorbed into the total costs of production and reflected across the board.

Re: Here's Why Nintendo Switch Games Cost More Than Those For Other Consoles

DatDog

But the comparison to physical vs eShop pricing is 100% WRONG! Bomberman in Aus is $24 cheaper on the eShop than it is physically.

My guess is that because Rime is being developed by another studio (Tantalus) and not being developed in house like the PS4 and Xbone versions, the Switch version is being marked up to cover the costs associated with paying Tanatlus to produce it.

I'm I to believe because eurogamer has posted this, the writer of this article believes it? Because nothing in this article is correct or factual.

Re: Nintendo Lost 'Maricar' Patent Objection Prior to Recent Copyright Infringement Claim

DatDog

@retro_player_22 actually - they are! They are illegally using their characters, associated with a near identical name while making "profit" from doing so.

Nintendo also runs bad publicity if accidents or any other damage is caused due to negligence as its their characters being used.

I'm totally with Nintendo! Its bad PR waiting to happen and its their characters and IP that is being ripped off. Because its missing an "O" hardly makes it feel right.

Re: Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con Disconnection Woes Could Be Hardware-Related

DatDog

I don't believe this is the issue one bit. I have zero Joycon issues until my pro controller is connected - when connected my "left" side of the pro controller has the random disconnects people complain about the left joycon. Worse though, switching to Joycon and my right Joycon gets stuck moving in a down right position and can't aim correctly in Zelda.

No pro controller connected and I have zero issues. There has to Be a bug in there somewhere they need to iron out.

Also people have complained about right Joycon issues - and to counter the guys theory - adding ANY form of extended antenna will clearly help with range. This would have been tested for range before launch and it happens to select people. Too random for a hardware defect.

Re: Guide: How To Turn Off The Nintendo Switch (Properly) And Export Your Game Screens

DatDog

@GoldenGamer88 is it really that necessary to have a light? You can hit any help button when docked or undocked and the quick screen comes up showing you the battery level. Only place they could put that light is on top of the Switch which is also very cramped.

And the reason for no option when you hit the power button is for user consumption. It sips power when on standby and you can instant resume any time and fast. Adding a menu means you cant just hit the button and put it down, you have to choose the option you want. Further, accidentally hit the wrong option and it powers down losing your current state if you didn't save.

Re: Guide: How To Turn Off The Nintendo Switch (Properly) And Export Your Game Screens

DatDog

@Waluigifan simple reason for that - on a mobile device if you accidentally hit that button it will power off and take awhile to reboot - and you lose everything you had on screen.

Mobile devices are suppose to be fast and efficient - having it power down every time you hit that button slows things down a great deal and takes away from the instant gratification of the systems.

That's why they have the option to hold it for 5 seconds to fully turn off your device. Options, options, options - while retaining all the speed. That's the reason for this.

Re: Blaster Master Zero Lays Waste To Switch And 3DS On March 9th

DatDog

My favourite NES series is back!!!! Hell yes I'm buying this day 1. Woooooo!

My only problem from the trailer - the music. Blaster Master had such an awesome soundtrack and very moody. I just hope the trailer doesn't represent all the music in the game (still buying though!!).

Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

DatDog

@BulbasaurusRex lets put it again in another way.. when the sequel comes out - what are Monolith going to do?? Are they going to release it exclusively for Wii U? No its dead and there is 0 support from Nintendo now on it.

Are they going to release it for 3DS? No, it would lose the impact and feel of the massive giant world and be hampered by what it could physically do.

So that leaves the Switch. So then, will they remove this map feature altogether from the game, or retool it for the Switch?

I think it's a very safe bet they will completely retool it - like I said they could do for the first - and continue on the story.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

DatDog

@BulbasaurusRex how could there be no other forms of multiplayer? We have system link and we have online? Again there is "options" and split screen is viable if the screen is squished. You could also have full split screen on the same screen like the Wii U, but treat the game as its running on a 21:9 monitor so there are black bars. There is nothing that can't be done to implement it - and the FACT there is already critics bashing the complete lack of updates for the Wii U version and how far it's fallen behind - I say again - why should a dev support the game when they could move to a new console with better hardware, and potentially a much larger player base? Clearly they never made enough sales to warrant the continued support of the Wii U version.

Ive provided 4 alternatives now, 3 of which can be implemented and preserve the Wii U style gameplay perfectly? So explain again why those of us getting a Switch don't deserve to get it and how it will "ruin" the experience and garner worse scores from critics? If they implemented all 4 ideas - I'm sure critics would be more amazed with the Switch version.

And I will never disagree with you that game play and mechanics beat out graphics - you are completely right. What I completely disagree with you on is that there is disconnect from changing how the map works. Again, I don't see or feel it. And absolutely nothing about the map screen is unqiue or ground breaking. Again I provided multiple options before, all of which worked and won't hamper gameplay at all - the functions of the map are all extremely basic.

But let's point out another fact - Xenoblade Chronicles X was already designed to run on one screen! It already supports offscreen gameplay on Wii U. Yes it still has touch for when you acess the map - but I did not see ONE reviewer complain about how offscreen gameplay disconnected you from the game. It might have even been Kotakus hands on who praised the offscreen play because it free'd up the TV for family and more games needed to support it.

Putting that aside, Do you not recall the amount of times you could be running around and units would just appear in front of you? That is all due to lower powered hardware with less memory available. That is far more disconnecting!! Especially when you have these towering monsters and they spawn a few feet out from you.. when you got your mech it only got worse the faster you could fly.

I'm sorry in this case, the limited hardware already had a far bigger disconnect than having to pull up a map - again a feature already built into the Wii U version for offscreen play. And having more on screen objects at once, higher resolution and higher textures would far enhance the experience than and perceived disconnect could be from having a pull up map.

Again - I never recall flying around while simultaneously using the map to place probes and do things - it wasn't possible. You always had to focus on one or the other or you would end up surrounded and dead.

Let me again say this - the team did an AMAZING job on Xenoblade X! I loved the game from begging to end, and they pulled of some amazing graphics on the limited hardware. But why should they not enhance it for what I can only see as "enhancing" the experience of the game, and for more players and reducing what I see as the most major disconnect in games since the PS1/N64. There is a reason open world games have such huge draw distances, to make the world feel more real and alive.
