Re: Bill Trinen on the Addition of DLC to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

DatDog

@rjejr your splatoon example should be rethought - there is nothing those Amiibo unlock that gives you an advantage in other than looks and a couple of extra challenge stages. Those Amiibo are there for fans who collect and want something "more" from their collecting.

Why people are complaining about the Amiibo again when it's unlocking stuff for the collectors (which I think is fair and cool) is silly. While we haven't seen anything yet - wolf link isn't necessary at all but is a cool extra for those of us with it. Nintendo is developimg this kind of content for its collectors - nothing is missed story wise or epic loot wise by not having them. Yet people who refuse to buy Amiibo cant appreciate that small fact - because they simply want everything!

Not attacking you here.. but outside the Amiibo the season pass is also a smart move. I want reasons to come back and play this game months on, and this does that. Complaining about something we don't know all the details of is silly.. nobody is forcing you to buy it, and can buy it later if you feel differently. Right now it's either "be excited for more content" or nothing. There is nothing Nintendo has announced with this dlc that should have anyone complaining about. Its OPTIONAL content - IF you want it. And I for one, do!

@PlywoodStick in a close proximity to one another there is going to be no drop out unless you have way way too many wifi devices in the area. And they would have to EB close - this isn't connecting to a router so bandwidth isn't an issue to and from the devices.

As for not being serious for being on wireless - I'm using wireless internet here and getting latency From 18 to 34ms which is perfectly fine for any competitive gaming. Less always helps, but we are no longer in the days where wireless sucks - it can keep up with what's required for online games.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

@BulbasaurusRex lol so it will ruin the game when you could have other forms of multiplayer? So because you don't want a reduced view or are unhappy to settle to make a sacrifice no one else should get it? Hell im happy if its single player on one console as well. And why should I settle for a game on a dead console and lower res when I could ask for a port with higher res, and chances of more content updates?

As for the map - there is a multitude of ways around it. When in portable you can use the touch screen, out of that you have motion controls for a pointer or you know - the traditional dpad and click?

Your treating Chronicles X as if its touch screen is some new inventive thing. I never saw on review raving about it - I only saw reviewers saying "it's convenient having your map at all times but doesn't add much". Your getting pulled out of the game every time your doing your scanning or mining etc. Having an overlay is EACTLY the same thing as looking down at the screen.

Would it be slightly more inconvenient not having touch controls? Yes. Yes it would. Has every other RPG been able to get around this? Yes. Yes they have.

Again your making it out like the second screen on this game is revolutionary and requires it - but it simply doesnt. Nor would it disconnect you from the game, looking down from the screen to do other activities and pressings button to pull up a screen instantly is the same disconnect.

I love Chronicles X and cant wait for the eventual sequel - but there is nothing in the game that can't be done on a conventional console. I'd argue that you get taken out of the game experience more often in cities and shops than removing the second screen would do.

And again - having this game on a more powerful console for full 1080p and larger viewing distance would enhance the experience two fold than losing the touch screen. Or would you disagree there too? Because as good as the view distance was - it was hugely impacted by being on the Wii Us weaker hardware.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

@BulbasaurusRex well I'd rather a port even with a gimped split screen than not at all. I have played it on Wii U and I think it could still do a split screen with a worse view.

I'm sure there is a lot of people like me who aren't going to buy the Wii U version now -(was always on my backlist) I'd also prefer the extra resolution - so yeah there is a reason to bring it out on Switch. I doubt the Wii U version will get any of the new arcade characters either.

As for Xeno, how often did you use both screens on the fly? I don't remember a single time from beginning to end where I was using both screens at the same time simultaneously . I was either tapping away and working on the touch screen or looking at the main screen - having both on at the same time never benefitted the gameplay outside having a large map to look at. Having it as a pull-up overlay is not going to negatively impact gameplay in any way.

Re: There Won't Be a New Skylanders Game in 2017

DatDog

Well.. I'll be grabbing the Switch port when it arrives to fill out my library. I think Skylanders has a lot of potential still - just need to make different style of games and cut back on the new figures a bit.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Falls Short in the EVO 2017 Player's Choice Vote

DatDog

@BulbasaurusRex split screen is always an option or just local switch to switch multiplayer. Or just online? All are still viable for a complete port which could run at full 1080p.

As for Xenoblade - that's hardly why we are getting a new one. Chronicles X didn't really use the touch/second screen in any effective way. Could be replaced with a button press and an overlay, and you would still be able to fully use touch.

Re: Nintendo Details How Voice Chat And Multiplayer Lobbies Work In Splatoon 2

DatDog

@WOLF1313 nope. There is no option on the Xbox app and doesn't show you online if your not physically in the app or notify you if people are online - so the PS app is slightly ahead.

You say it's to cut corners, but you realise they have to developed this system and then incorporate it still into the Switch? As all match making is made via the app and then linked in. Its hardly cutting any corners. Only corner it cuts is when fixing bugs or issues they don't have to do a full system update.

And yes I'd rather send voice messages and voice chat, because if I'm taking with friends it's faster and easier than typing messages back and forth all the time. So why wouldn't you want that ability?

Re: Nintendo Details How Voice Chat And Multiplayer Lobbies Work In Splatoon 2

DatDog

@gatorboi352 actually they have - what it's showing is that developers have more control over how people chat in their games and what they feel is best.

@WOLF1313 read my post. It states what the app "can't" do that Nintendos can, and we will be able to do all you listed as Nintendo have previously stated all that is coming. I use the Xbox App regularly.

Re: Nintendo Details How Voice Chat And Multiplayer Lobbies Work In Splatoon 2

DatDog

@WOLF1313 have you used those apps? They are slow, don't notify you when people are online, doesn't show you online if the app is in the background, can't send voice messages or voice chat, can't join parties while away from the console...

I love my Xbone and App - but I can tell you that Nintendo are definitely moving ahead of both companies with this move. Just have to hope Nintendo brings its A game.

Re: Kimishima on Making Splatoon 2 and Other Games for the Competitive Gaming Scene

DatDog

@MitchVogel Spot on. People are too busy focusing on the "me too" mentality of Switch following Xbone/PS4. I think they are smarter going this route, allowing more freedom of use and also allowing you to take your friends list and chat wherever you are - even without the Switch.

It holds a lot of promise - something Microsoft knows and are trying with their smart app.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Releasing New Super Mario Bros. On The Nvidia Shield In China

DatDog

@Octane getting consoles approved for use in China is hard. Their regulations and import rules are very weird.

This is a unique case where it's easier to use a device like the shield than it is to get their own console approved. N64 clones with sd card slots only hit the region a couple of years ago.

I highly doubt Nintendo will canabalise their 3DS sales by offering it outside of China. And once again if they did - it would be easier and probably would have hit the rest of the world first.

Re: New Hack Offers A Full Game Library On Your NES Classic Edition

DatDog

@Yalaa that is a rather silly thing to say. Do you know how many games are on the NES? Not to mention Nintendo only make a portion of them. They would have to liscence every game - and then pay royalties per each console sold.

The console would cost an insane amount of money and nobody would buy it.

Re: Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Studio Tantalus Is Porting RiME To Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@Equinox @HappyMaskedGuy most likely has to do with the development studio. So close to release and only being a small dev, most likely wouldn't have had the time to port it in time.

Passing it to a studio that's already got a dev kit and more resources (and who has worked with Nintendo) ensures a quality port and fan also produce to release aside the other consoles.

Ease of programming has very little to do in this case.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Accessories

My question: does the charging grip actually have a battery to charge off? Or is it only a pass through with lights to know how full they are?

Really I don't see the point of it. They last for 20 hours on a single charge. You can easily dock them and charge there.

On the other hand, the dual charger is perfect if you have more than one set of joycons (its a must for me).
