Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

DatDog

@cleveland124 not really.. as essentially it will just be handling network data. All communication and bandwidth overhead would be handled by the phone.

And not all wireless has bad latency. I use a wifi provider where I am (had no choice) and beat out latency provided by Telstra on cable here in Australia, while also having better upload.

That being said I'm not talking about competitive. Not all multiplayer games is about being no.1 - you can just jump online and have fun.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

DatDog

@cleveland124 I thought the same thing at first. But the more I think about it, its a smart move. I love using my Xbox app on the go but doesn't provide any of the voice chat intervention or party setup.

If they nail down the features and continue adding more - this will be huge! Can organise parties and gaming land while away. Communicate with your clan.

And the Switch doesn't have internet on the go. So really if your going to play games on the go your going to tether it to your phone also for internet.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

@speedracer216 actually there is quite a few reasons. They can push out updates to the app anytime without having to update the console and interrupting gameplay. You can take your friends list and chat with them anywhere without a console. Frees up resources to make the games look better. Less work required for 3rd parties to implement (hopefully).

Let's face it - Nintendo needs to capture new audience, not just keep the old happy. This could be a very good way if they can provide and continued experience without needing your console.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

Everyone is over reacting to this... there is a few points here nobody is picking up.

1: VC games will now support online and takes extra work. Hence the rental to try.
2: We have to pay for online on other consoles already for a full experience.
3: Using an app means persistent community interaction wherever you are - regardless of your Switch being with you. Something only Xbox offfers via their app - but no voice chat intergration.
4: you can only keep the Xbox/ps games while you have your subscription. Nintendo may yet offer monthly discounts on its free VC game.

Re: Skyrim Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@Noelemahc skyrim on xbone and PS4 isn't even pushing the systems. Its how mods are able to work on the console without huge performance hits - and it hardly looks next gen in any way.

Switch will handle it easily.

Re: Mass Effect Producer Says There's No Plan to Bring Mass Effect Andromeda to Switch

DatDog

Well for me, this is a loss.. not so much as i can still buy it on Xbone. But id rather have the portability and support it on Switch! I already bought Skyrim twice, and ill buy it a 3rd for the portability factor alone and trade in my Xbone copy.

Guess i can only hope Skyrim does well and we see Fallout 4 as well. After the tragedy that was mass effects 3 ending - it could be the better option.

Re: More Switch Rumours Emerge Online

DatDog

People you need to get past the 32GB storage. Flash storage is expensive and will only be used for saves and downloads. Majority of gamers still buy games on physical media as its often cheaper and they like collecting.

The fact it has USB ports on the docks and rumoured SD card slots means lots of options for storage! And its cheaper and you can decide on how much storage you want/need.

Re: The Nintendo Switch Power Debate is Back - Report Suggests It Won't Quite Match PS4

DatDog

All we have is rumours.. what we know is that its a custom chip for Nintendo. It could be based off X1 or X2. Im still likely to say X2 as Nvidia didnt win any devices with its design and it will want to get more money back from the R&D.

As for everyone saying "Its Nintendo, Duh", i think your forgetting that even if this is just really close to the Xbone, its still got the power of nearly an Xbone in your hands! It only needs to be close - no Project Scorpio or PS4 Pro games are allowed to be exclusive. Meaning that every time they Develope for either console, it should be little effort tonport it over.

Also.. this is Nvidia tech with a base station that can probably be upgraded in a year or two too further support more powerful graphics ala SLI.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off New Area in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

DatDog

Having watched it now.. what they showed is nothing more graphically intensive than they have shown previously. It looks like a recording issue - i get that same frame rate trying to stream and revord with OBS using the Nintendo Mini. Even bill doesnt appear to move at 30fps in that video.

As for everyone giving Wii U owners the shaft? Really? When has Nintendo ever released a dodgy port or not cared about Wii U owners? This game was designed for Wii U - it will run great (still expecting frame dips)

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off New Area in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

DatDog

Same thing happened to Zelda last year on the live streams and it was just the recording. When uploaded on youtube in full it was smooth (except for the occasional.frame dips).

Dont you think with a game so highly anticipated that they wouldnt have show this if it wasnt ready? Im waiting for the official upload on youtube - then if its the same ill jump on the WTF bandwagon.

Re: Rumour: Bayonetta And Cloud amiibo Delayed Until Release Of Super Smash Bros. On Switch

DatDog

@MarcelRguez all speculative. There may be nothing new at all. And two years is a long time in gaming! People arent buying smash anymore or Wii U. The last bit of content for smash was what february now? How many people bought that? People who own a game dont necessarily buy all the content.

Why should I be subjected to paying it full price THREE times because a Wii U owner is upset they feel like they didnt get their moneys worth?

I own the 3x 3DS and 1x Wii U version. Why should I be subjected to buying it at the full price I previously paid for a game 2 years old? Because someone feels entitled or hurt because they have enjoyed it for that long already?

Lets be clear.. I know how much money it will cost to port and test. So im happy to pay a reduced price for everything which is how it should be on old ported games.

Re: Rumour: Bayonetta And Cloud amiibo Delayed Until Release Of Super Smash Bros. On Switch

DatDog

@MarcelRguez that would even be a worse move. Why would I want to rebuy the whole thing at full price? Just so someone who has already owned the game for 2+ years feels justified in the purchase? Isnt the fact they have had it for years longer a perk.

The reason they do this is to renew sales and open up the game to new players - generally on a different system.

Your forgetting a lot of time has passed since its launch and release. If people want to wait it is also their choice. This will be offered at a lower price for those who have not only bought it previously, but to recoupe the costs it incurred to port and few new players on a mew system. Once again, we dont even know if extra content will be chucked in to make the package even better.

Re: Rumour: Bayonetta And Cloud amiibo Delayed Until Release Of Super Smash Bros. On Switch

DatDog

@MarcelRguez totally disagree. I want the option to play that game on my next console and take it everywhere with me (like the 3DS version). So why arent Nintendo allowed to offer that to me? Because people feel entitled?

Considering the amount of work going into porting it, you cant justify being given it for free. And if someone wants to be upset about it - just dont buy it, Nintendo arent forcing you too.

Nintendo arent throwing the Wii U version out and in no way harms previous owners. Just like it didnt harm Wii U owners when it was also released on 3DS.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Will Support Micro SDXC Cards Up To 128GB In Capacity

DatDog

Ugh! Guys and Gals calm down. Look at what we already know and has been shown about the console. It has USB slots on the dock, chances are it supports your standard HDDs out of the box kust like the WiiU and Xbone now. SDXC support will be for storing save games and digital purchases for on the go "only".

We have to be realistic here. Internal Storage costs a fortune! Giving us the option to choose our own storage amount is smart. Allows the console to be cheaper and gives users the choice of how much extra when and if they wish to pay for it.
