Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nintendo has no impact on if they release a full game or not.. WB have chosen to be cheap cut down on costs and make us pay for it. Nintendo aren't he distributor or publisher - so how does Nintendo have any impact? And once again - we know rough prices and know there is VERY minimal price disadvantage here.

Right now - the Switch version could actually BE CHEAPER to produce than Xbone/PS4 but they don't have a choice on costs on those systems or medium.

But since you bring it up - what disadvantages does the cart pose other than a "slight" cost increase? Which we also know is utter rubbish and not an excuse for any price hike of any magnitude.

And again, Nintendo doesn't produce the carts either.. so how is it their fault? How will you twist it this time? How do you respond to actual physical games on carts being cheaper than the eShop?

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE LOL so Nintendo - who doesn't take hits on their own hardware AND software, should take a hit for everyone else? Then how can Nintendo release games at reasonable prices, along with others, and yet its heir fault and not WB's?

I love how you can turn any issue into Nintendos fault - when this is nothing but Warner Bros being greedy or simply lazy.

@NintySnesMan then your missing out. Its amazing and for the first time in ages - even gaming sites are saying they are hyped for its future.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE they are trying to be abstract and not discuss specifics. I can guarantee you they are not allowed to discuss the deal with Tanatalus, or the cost of carts and are simply point out those two facts as reasons.

The carts are not the blame here - again we have a good idea of how inexpensive it is to produce a cart. When your 8 months out from launch and you have to bring in a new crew to developer the game to match the others release? Its very very likely that's where the cost comes.

Even if they just passed on the cart costs, you would be lucky if its $2. Very lucky! Again - let's point out I can buy RETAIL Switch games cheaper than I can buy them digitally. So how does that work?

Again - its not the cart. It coming down to greed and laziness on the part of Warner Bros.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE exactly my point.. everyone is focused on the fact that it costs more to produce - but we already know it doesn't cost that much more at all.

What everyone glosses over is the fact they outsourced the game for development on Switch which would have cost them a bundle.

And I stand by my "I'll buy Rime on Switch" - as I know the guys at Tantalus do amazing work (thank you for Zelda: Teilight Princess HD) and I am 100% sure that's where the extra cost has come from.

This though.. is BS and laziness on WB's part. The game is being done in house and carts don't cost that much more. And as long as news outlets keep using the "carts" as an excuse, they will use it to make more profits and continue to misinform people.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@derrin I haven't complained or heard any one else about needing an SD card. Its a given everyone will need it and acceptable.

What's not acceptable is not including a full game on a retail cart, and forcing additional costs onto us. Either include it in the price or don't bother. This is 100% Warner Brothers choice and fault. They deserve blame for it - no questions asked.

Fact remains carts don't cost that much - its become the "scapegoat" of excuses.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nobody has officially said why Rime is more expensive - outlets have just jumped onboard to say its cart cost. There has not been one official response.

Fact remains that the Switch version has been outsourced for porting while the others are being done in house - that's an additional cost and I'm happy to wear that kind of price jump if it means a quality product. Then it could just be greed and they feel they can fleece the new console.

This on the other hand, is just cheap. Carts don't cost that much - we know this based on 3DS pricing and fact that Nintendo and other publishes can put out games at a reasonable price - and that other devs have already confirmed price parity with PS4/Xbone titles.

This comes down to greed.. nothing more.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@KoopaTheGamer it actually does. Should Warner Brothers decide they want to pull the game or stop selling it (or lose the rights to the Lego titles), you will potentially no longer be able to play your physical copy. Its the one thing physical media has over digital - it's always there no matter what happens.

The other factor is speed - 13 gigs is a lot to download for some people on slow speeds. So they buy a game physically and have to wait another day to play it?

You may feel it's not that big an issue - but in reality it is. They are trying to make an extra buck at our expense, and we are the ones with potential to lose our.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

DatDog

@jimi I think you may be looking at it wrong. As stated it requires "13 GBS" of data free. You can't stream that data instantly over the net - it "requires internet" not "requires constant internet connection" as you have to download that 13gigs of data to your console - which means it is a mandatory install.

Unless that 13gigs of data is just videos, you will absolutely need all that information!! How can they cut down on 13GB of data and say it's the same game? It is 100% mandatory.

Re: FDG Entertainment Wants to Know if We'd Like Monster Boy on Cartridge for Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@OorWullie we still don't know the case as to why Rime is more expensive, but I'm still guessing it's the fact they had to outsource (pay) an external company to produce it - in this case Tantalus in Australia. Where as far as I'm aware, the Xbone/PS4 versions are all developed in house. And they had less time to port it in.

A physical release should not increase price - UNLESS (as it should be) they increase the physical release because it costs more to make. eShop games and all digital games should be cheaper then retail - and that's never the case.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd March (Europe)

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE yep! Great prices for a dead console that is also 4 years old.

Nothing wrong with the Switch lineup? Some classic games and a new release. Has-Been Heroes looks hell fun.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd March (Europe)

DatDog

@BenAV tell me about it!! Was looking forward to playing that this weekend.. atleast I grabbed Binding of Isaac from the US to tide me over.

Let us know what you think of Snake Pass! Would love to grab it eventually.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd March (North America)

DatDog

Has-Been Heroes has been delayed on game card for Switch in Australia by 1 week 😢 Got a free copy launch night and was looking forward to playing it this week.

At least I got Binding of Isaac from the US 👍

Re: Nintendo Says There is No Design Issue Causing Left Joy-Con Connection Drops

DatDog

@GamerGuy82 it actually still can be a bug - just because its not widespread doesn't mean there isn't some kind of software issue inherent. And with devices like this, manufacturing issues happen a lot, as well as software. My local EB has told me they have had more launch PS4s returned in the first week faulty than Switches so far - as an example, issues in areas and devices exist across the board.

Surface Pro 3 and the new MacBooks experienced this exact battery issue - but not from all users. Software updates were issued to fix it and no more complaints since.

That's not to say it's not a hardware issue - and I know losing 30 hours of Zelda may seem unthinkable - but the fastest solution could be to return it for a replacement.

Its sad you have had so many issues with the representatives - I can only say it must be a regional thing. Nintendo Aus (and I have heard Nintendo US) are amazing to deal with for returns and repairs.

Hope you get it sorted soon. I know your experience has been soured by this, but it's an awesome machine! Be sad for you to miss out. I love my Xbone S - and PS4 seems to be a hit if you need to swap.

Re: Nintendo Fixes the Left Joy-Con Problem with a Small Piece of Foam

DatDog

@Rontanamo_Bay I had that with my pro controller as well - it was faulty. I thought I fixed it and two days later it repeated. It was literally a calibration issue with the left stick that would get stuck in the down position.

Had a spare pro controller to test with and had no issues at all with it - got a replacement and new one is perfect.

I'd suggest you swap it out for a new one.

Re: Nintendo Fixes the Left Joy-Con Problem with a Small Piece of Foam

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE can't say from other countries, but in Australia you can take it back for a replacement - but as stated, my local EB store has said very few have been returned across the stores he has spoken with.

Edit: Why the hell would they recall a product when VERY FEW are actually having issues? You are just literally trying to exacerbate a problem which exists for very few actual hardware owners?! What other company has ever done that with very few hardware issues showing?

Re: Reminder: Corrin amiibo is Still Coming, Yet the Wait Continues for Bayonetta and Cloud

DatDog

@Jessica286 I'm pretty much in the same boat. The controller I didn't mind so much, and loved the games. It just always felt like it could have been "more" - which clearly is what the Switch provided.

Ive said it before, but if a few more AAA games come out, Switch could easily be my favourite console of all time. And I'm 100% happy with ports - the more they do the sooner I can ditch my Wii U.

I'll be clear though - I either want a cheaper price if it's a quick port with higher res, or like they did with MK8, add new features and all DLC for a full price.

Re: Reminder: Corrin amiibo is Still Coming, Yet the Wait Continues for Bayonetta and Cloud

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE clearly we would have to buy the game - as you would any other company that releases a "port" for their console. Its not cheap to do this and need to recoup that cash somehow. At least we get more value with additional content thrown in. Its a lot more than other companies offer (but that's speculation on my part when it comes to Smash as we don't know yet).

As for Amiibo - that is your opinion. I love the high quality and collectible nature - and the fact I get small in game DLC with them is a huge perk to me. Nothing in them is game breaking or "needed", its for those of us who love them and want more value from a collectible.

Nintendo haven't treated anyone bad here. They announced the Amiibo would come but never when - and when they do come they will still work for Wii U - its not like its going to be region blocked. Again they possibly could have held off due to low sales of the DLC for the port.

But hey? Nintendo may even announce they get cancelled yet.

Re: Reminder: Corrin amiibo is Still Coming, Yet the Wait Continues for Bayonetta and Cloud

DatDog

@SLIGEACH_EIRE im a Wii U owner and I don't feel like I've been treated poorly in any way. How do you know that sales of the last character DLC weren't so low, Nintendo has held off releasing them for the port?

As a fact - I currently own all the DLC for both Smash Wii U/3DS but never bought the last round which included Bayonetta and Corrin.

I also find it a bit laughable you call these a "Scam" yet your saying it's treating the Wii U user base with disdain. So is it a good thing, or bad thing, these havent come out?

Re: Reminder: Corrin amiibo is Still Coming, Yet the Wait Continues for Bayonetta and Cloud

DatDog

@Issi see I disagree. There is games like Smash and Mario Kart 8 that are already amazing. Adding in new content, and including all previous DLC is the best option for past users and new users alike.

Remember Wii U didn't sell well - there are a lot of people who may have wanted these games and never bought a Wii U for them. And adding new content and porting it is much faster than making new games which takes multiple years! We don't want another Wii U drought on games.

As for online - of course they are charging.. it was only a matter of time. Running a full online system costs a lot of money - they need to ensure they can maintain it. What's left to be seen is, if the price is worth the online modes. If its ever close to offering Xbone/PS4 online set - that's a yes.

Re: Game Freak is Recruiting For New Console Game

DatDog

@sillygostly there is split screen, multi console and online options. Playing on one console is not the only option.

And from what Ive played of Pokken -roughly only about 1/3 of the combat is played over the shoulder. The rest appeared to be pretty standard fare. Not ideal for split screen, but not a deal breaker that some people think..

Re: Game Freak is Recruiting For New Console Game

DatDog

I doubt we will see any mainline Pokémon game announced anytime soon for Switch (but I'd LOVE to be proven wrong!).

I think if there is any announcement - it will likely be a Pokken Fighter port - or a new Stadium game. I just can't see them releasing a follow up to Sun and Moon so soon - especially when they are still releasing items for them.

Edit: soooo Namco was the one working on Pokken so I realise now it's probably not that - otherwise Namco would probably be hiring people? Pokémon Snap 2 anyone? 😬

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@3MonthBeef it's sad.. I'm only new to NL (as of about 8 months ago) but I enjoyed the honest posts and the fact they didn't just bash Nintendo every chance they had for clicks.

Last few weeks though its been getting rougher coming here as you have the trolls hating and clear bias towards negative posts. If I wanted negativity - I'd just visit Kotaku.

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@westman98 very well done sir! This should have been included in the article and also a link posted. What is "tipped" doesn't give a clear enough picture and the person doing it is clearly trying to hate on the Switch.

So I'd like to know why all these negative posts go up - without links - but when tips of new games coming to Switch are submitted, they aren't posted?

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@lifepsychedelic yes but considering the pole is from GDC and how many serious devs (in other words, games from devs that don't even match Binding of Isaac quality) is highly likely. Its got very little to do with fanboyism.

Honestly if they said everyone mobile game dev out there wanted in on this system I'd want to puke and thank god Nintendo has these curated policies!

Re: Developer Survey Reveals Worrying Lack Of Interest In Nintendo Switch

DatDog

@Phin68 because the mobile phone game rush is well and truly over. Phone developers have long been saying its hard to get noticed because there is so many other games and apps - and all those games get revenue off adds or using money for in game items. And let's face it - they all suck!

Those are the kind of things serious gamers don't want in AAA games or games in general.
