@RPGamer No, you literally said "Eh, I don’t care much about graphics and FPS." That's good that your standard for visuals are "as long as I’m able to see and play the game," lol. Man, that kind of sentiment lowers the standard across the board for what companies assume the amount of effort needed is for the game they are selling us. Expect better. That's how we end up with minimal effort ports/emulations like the Mario 3D collection. Those games should all be running running 60 FPS and 64 ABSOLUTELY should be widescreen. Modders at home did it within weeks for 64. But Nintendo knows there's fans out there you that will gobble up everything. 3rd parties know this too.
Waiting on Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix to get a physical release in the West (I'd buy a playasia Japanese version but then the DLC would be difficult to obtain, as I couldn't purchase it from a non-Japanese eshop).
@SwitchForce What the hell are you talking about, lol? Yes the Switch will get a more powerful version (someday) in the future; no it will not be as powerful as the next gen stuff. I personally bet it will fall between the Ps4 and Ps4 Pro, with a Switch Lite and a "Pro" version, 3 tiers would get confusing. But I don't get the whole fantasy thing you're talking about? I think it's good that people doubt it tho, helps keep their expectations down as Nintendo loves to fall short a lot.
@The-Chosen-one It's just...not to double back on my statement, but after the HUGE numbers they did this year with BRAND NEW customers (I had friends messaging me this year about a Switch that I didn't even know ever HELD a controller of any kind before) it'd be realllllllly weird for them to already announce a new version of the console next year. But at the same time they really need too. 3rd parties are struggling to get there games running on it. Where is Doom Eternal?
No one thing Nintendo does is super bad. Like, it's just a pin set. But when you take it all into account...everytime I hear about something like this, I really hate them more and more as a company. The Mario 3D collection, limited run (digital too) was really the straw that broke the camel's back with me, that broke the fan in me. They are a cheap, greedy, consumer hostile company now. There's been plenty of shady stuff in yesteryears, but never as constant as it's been in the last 4 or so. Just do one thing right by your fanbase, by your customers. It's not that they are incompetent or incapable, they are just plain out "unwilling". I didn't even try to get a pin set, as when they announced it, I remembered the shenanigans I went thru to get my SNES controllers.
@The-Chosen-one here's hoping there's a Switch Pro coming. The Switch right now is basically a XBox 360 Pro. So for context, the Switch is a Pro version of a console that came out 15 years ago. I can dig Nintendo not being all maxxed out, but the gap is getting ridiculous.
@RPGamer Comments like "I don't care much about framerate and graphics" are always weird to me. This is an interactive, visual medium. Storytelling isn't even a necessary ingredient in many games. Why do you play video games if you don't care about how they look or how well they perform?
@Dethmunk NES and SNES ran most of their titles at 60 fps. N64 is where we all took a biiiiig dip. Afterward, 60 FPS became an ideal devs worked toward for games. Lots of PS2 were 60 fps. Gamecube games, I remember quite a few running at 60 FPS, even Sunshine spent most of it's development at 60 FPS before reverting to 30 when they had to rush it out the door to help out lagging Gamecube console sales. I feel like PS3 and especially the Wii fell back a bit into more of a mostly 30 fps terriority. PS4 worked more toward "60 FPS is the ideal" again. No idea on the Xbox games. Basically you're argument is flawed. Lots and lots of games have been 60 for decades, many games feel bad at 30 (platformers, action games), sometimes it doesn't matter a lot, like in an RPG.
@popey1980 Don't think it's that big of a deal, but when placed within context...some people are using this as a rallying point for discussion. Also, what other industry do we have fans like you crapping on people because someone has a complaint about the quality of said product they purchased for 60 bucks? Imagine getting a Bluray of something and they left the old work in progress VFX for a scene.
We should all stop officially referencing the "Nintendo Seal of Quality." That has not been a thing for the Switch. Between the awful 3rd party ports, questionable eshop games, hardware issues and minimal efforts in Deluxe editions...like those Seal days are gone. They aren't EA bad, but making small steps toward it. Imagine any other company putting a limited timed release on a game (digital even) and the amount of backlash they get. Slowly getting disgusted with them as a company.
Bought All Stars but haven't even had a tickle to play it yet. Having too much fun with Fall Guys (Ps4). Also messing around with a great new programmable controller I got for Fortnite (Ps4). Recently made the jump to Ps4 Pro for Fortnite after becoming too frustrated with it on Switch.
@Averagewriter He made up for that as far back as 2008 with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia with the Shanoa and currently with Bloodstained's Miriam. Also isn't the only game that got erased from cannon. Yes that was a gross comment to make, but lets not punish people for who they used to be. There was no cancel culture pressure in 2008, he made Shanoa the protagonist out of his personal decision. If you want to hate on him, hate on him for allowing that Bloodstained Switch port to be so crappy.
@TheFullAndy You got the zombie bit because you were making an echo chamber comment, not stating an authentic comment from yourself. Anyone who is critical of any Nintendo presentation or voices displeasure about it gets the same "oh you were expecting Smash, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, why not try 3rd party stuff" comments. When it's like "no, obviously I'm not expecting that, it's not actually all I ever want, I just thought this [insert presentation] was low effort, with bland 3rd party support, etc." Then again, probably pointless to try arguing with Dennis, lol.
@Grumblevolcano Dark Souls Remastered on Switch ended up releasing so late that the other consoles got a 3 pack of the Dark Souls games on the same date.
@TheFullAndy Not a contrarian. I like 3rd party games. They are crucial to me and to a console's lifeblood. But these 3rd party games have been weak. That's not contrarian bro.
@TheFullAndy I guess, then just keep consuming the scraps, half efforts and overpriced slop we're getting from them, that they are able to curate as a company. That'll send a good message. "We support anything you give us." They're not your friend.
@teo_o It's their problem ultimately since i'm a customer lol - and yes it is beyond a necessity that they have 3rd party offerings and they highlight - some of my favorite games on Switch have been 3rd party like Fornite, Valykria Chronicles 4, Slay the Spire, Disgaea 5, YS8 etc. I think you're missing my point. I'm not complaining about a lack of 1st party, I'm complaining about how bland the partner's highlight is. I'm complaining about the 3rd party support not being better. About Nintendo lacking the the need to hustle harder and grow better and more fruitful 3rd party relationships and games.
@TheFullAndy The zombie bit was directed to you echo chambering the meme of Nintendo fans being ONLY being disappointed in a direct if nothing 1st party is revealed. We are allowed to not like something that is this mediocre and it does not have anything to do with it not being Metroid Prime 4. Seriously drone. Seriously get a new line. But since you went there, in all honesty if you got hyped from this Direct, I can only imagine how boring you are in real life.
@teo_o The showcase was boring. The games they showed were bland. It was bad...no one even had time to get disapointed over no "Metroid 4." Get a new line zombie.
@westman98 Again. I'm not saying they will, but I'm not saying it is unlikely either - this could be a managerial "townhouse" to discuss that, I don't know. I'm just relaying personal work experiences from the somewhat similarly structured industry I've worked in since 2007, as well as things I've witnessed directly in the games industry. Also "furloughing" people and dumping insane amounts of work on your retained staff is all the rage theses days, may that's more likely. Maybe all this is, is a reorg without layouts so they manage all the projects better in the WFH situation. Nintendo seems to be failing hard at that.
@westman98 Your just giving me a fanboy response. "If a Nintendo was actually going to lay off a ton of people, they'd do it quietly and not as a public event like any smart company." Define public? All these meetings get leaked, smarter to announce them somewhat publicly as it makes it seem like there is nothing to hide. This could be a meeting preceding potential layoffs, a reaction to layoffs, etc. The point of my post was more in reaction to the article than anything else. "However, the 16th September date has sparked a renewed interest in a potential Mario anniversary announcement." I'm reacting to that. And this article, nudgenudge "maybe it's about Mario games. Switch will continue to be successful for now, but COVID will be an issue for a long time, right? Switch has added pressure of new consoles on the horizon stealing the "mind share" away from it (the conversations themselves, taking up mindshare and drawing sales). Nintendo is doing great now. Been great for years now. But if they are having project management issues in the this new working world, and Nintendo seems to be having them, plus as economies continue to shrink around the world and disposable income gets more precious, software schedules slump, theme park delays (sales forecasts being adjusted for revenue from the park, merch, etc), animated feature potential delay (again, sales forecasts being adjusted for all the tie-in merch) and potential new hardware gets delayed...yes layoffs are a possibility. A reorg is likely. This meeting might be anticipating that at the very least. Don't fanboy at me because I'm not saying something bright and shiny.
@Nemesis666 You're right and wrong in your response, because Nintendo has been lacking in outreach to securing unique experiences for 3rd party games. I see a lot of stuff I either skipped in previous generations or already had my fill of...so when Nintendo fails to release a bunch of stuff, the 3rd party end, ends up unable to make up for it. And on the Indie end? 2018 for indies on Switch was fire. Just totally awesome. 2019 and 2020 have been a lot tamer, and the biggest indie game rn, Fall Guys, is not on Switch. Yet another Ps4 game. No ill will against Nintendo lacking in releases with the trouble the pandemic has caused...but like most things in life, when you don't take care of a lot of "personal issues" during the goodtimes, once something bad comes around and up ends the tea table, all the other little problems congeal into a larger one. In this case broken joycon and a drought of new experiences. Look at Ps4's release schedule this year? Completely full and varied. Nintendo is a joke with it's overpriced 3rd party ports of old games, with the content being minimal to playable on the card without a download. Broken games like Outerworlds, etc. For those of us who have been launch window adopters of the Switch...there really isn't much being released of great appeal.
@westman98 Might just be a "reorg." I'm in the US so I always associate Sept with a layoff month and a BIG meeting to reorg. Sept is the end of Q3 and adjustments happen to get Q4 looking extra financially "balanced" heading into the end of the year. In Japan I think that's the end of Q2. Now as for layoffs, I mostly meant from my experience "sounds like." Sometimes those big meeting are even schedule prior to knowing the scope of it all, how little or big of a hit something will take. Nintendo is doing amazing right now, yes. Nintendo also HAS BEEN a company that has presidents taking half salary cuts etc to avoid layoffs. But since Iwata has passed, since Reggie has left I feel like things "feel" a little different there in how they are running things. So why might there be layoffs despite this year being profitable? They might be future proofing and reorging to account for the management flow of things. EA has had massive layoffs in prior years to future proof earnings. Because here's the thing...COVID isn't going away. COVID may not be "manageable" until late NEXT year. I dunno, all I know is if my US company was scheduling something like this, we'd ALL BE A CHITTER CHATTER in worried conversation around it. If their internal forecast is causing big concern around release schedules, next gen consoles, the heat fading from AC AFTER this holiday season...delays in new hardware, I dunno, I'd be worried if I was at that company and hearing of this.
@sanderev yeah they need to compete - it's how we get good games, lol. Look at 2017. Look at that year. They totally targeted the core audience that buys the other consoles. Nowadays....they got cocky again. It's paying off for the them in the short term, just like the Wii.
@msvt what I think is, if you look at everything they have done in the past, this is a huge step up in scope...I've listened to a lot of interviews they've done over the years with Retronauts, IGN, their own youtube series, etc and know 3D is something to hoped to do one day. With that in mind, even non BIG AAA games can be difficult to develop for Switch, using whatever engines a smaller dev has at their disposal. So I bet they were targeting Sony and Microsoft, and Microsoft in desperate need of exclusives threw them money to help expand the scope of the game even more. In all of this, I see the problem with Nintendo and not correctly fostering new 3rd releases or exclusives for their console. I would bet they could have, with enough time and resources made a different version of this for Switch with some kind of deal with Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't play ball with that (you see the fruits of that non-relationship during the pandemic where the other consoles are still getting hype releases).
@jarvismp It has everything to do with power, fanboy. If it were just about money, it'd be a timed exclusive. They LOVE Nintendo. Lot's of interviews and podcasts with them discussing as much
@msvt Maybe they just want to move their games to the next level and Switch would have held them back? There's a reason Nintendo is mostly getting ports of games from 11 years ago.

Re: Even More Physical Editions Of Ys Origin Announced For Switch
Is this game any good? Only have experience with YS8 and fell in love. This looks quite a bit different tho.

Re: Image & Form's New Game Required Power The Switch Didn't Have, So It Did A Deal With Xbox
@jarvismp It has everything to do with power, fanboy. If it were just about money, it'd be a timed exclusive. They LOVE Nintendo. Lot's of interviews and podcasts with them discussing as much
Re: Image & Form's New Game Required Power The Switch Didn't Have, So It Did A Deal With Xbox
@msvt Maybe they just want to move their games to the next level and Switch would have held them back? There's a reason Nintendo is mostly getting ports of games from 11 years ago.
