Re: Splatoon 2 Version 5.4.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Dang69

@blockfight especially considering Salmon Run is probably the most fun thing in the game. I find the reg matches get boring after awhile, 2 maps on rotation for a few hours, meh unless it's a Splatfest, then every match feels important. The Competitive mode, Clam Blitz is fun, Tower Control is neat but exhausting (especially if one side gets a lead right away), Rainmaker can be a nice change of pace, but I find it all really repetitive even tho I adore the game. But yeah, only having 2 maps on rotation? That's gotta go in Splatoon 3.

Re: Review: Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - A Masochistic Medieval Marvel

Dang69

@Wavey84 I loved Mighty Gunvolt Burst...I own Azure Striker Gunvolt 1+2 but couldnt get into them even tho I LOVED the MM Zero games. My interest actually waned during Curse of the Moon 2, never finished it...but the first one I played thru several times to get all the different ending and paths...thought that was well done, each way of playing (killing your allies, etc) really changed up the gameplay in an interesting way. I think Blaster Master Zero 1 and 2 and Curse of the Moon 1 are like Mega Man 9 levels of good, if not better in how they were able to evolve the game itself a bit. My secret hope is they remake Fester's Quest...which would never happen.

Re: Feature: We Worked Out The Best Zelda Game Once And For All, Using Maths

Dang69

Seems about right. Skyward Sword doesn't even deserve a placement...most of the handheld games were better than that. Really wish they would have tried reworking the game a bit for the rerelease...it'll be a good litmus test for how strong the Switch cult of fans have become and just buy it anyway. Really curious about the sales.

Re: Review: Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - A Masochistic Medieval Marvel

Dang69

@Wavey84 streets of rage 4 didn't looks like a flash game because all the movements of the characters and enemies were fluid, and had weight, and limbs didn't animate independently of the each other...the flash complaint is specific to how the flat limbs and etc of the characters all seemed animated as separate pieces, which is how one used to make flash games - maybe Rage looked flash like to you because the illustrated aesthetic threw you off? maybe you mean mobile game or something?

Re: Reminder: Persona 5 Strikers Launches Today On Nintendo Switch

Dang69

I try to keep my game series on the same platforms for the most part, so I don't see why I'd get this on Switch, when I've already had the original P5 on Ps4 AND especially when games like this feel so much better at 60 fps (hits it on PS4 and above), and the Switch version is only 30.

Re: Review: Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - A Masochistic Medieval Marvel

Dang69

@dluxxx The aesthetic could have worked, but how it's animated, the limbs moving independent of the bodies and stuff just make it look too much like a flash game. I don't know how you solve that because I bet the...for lack of a better example, because it's not prob the most accurate comparison...Monty Python, Terry Gilliam 70s Brit animation style is something they are targeting. However what is ultimately turning me off of the game is some stuff Happy Console Gamer said about the controls and the way the game feels off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDe4q09-qg8

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

Dang69

@Zach777 a lot of that list is the second half of 2021 and later.
Second half of 2021:
Zelda Skyward Sword HD
No More Heroes 3
New Hyrule Warriors DLC
Neon White
Then a few things like Fall Guys say Summer 2021, so unless it all gets crammed into the end of June, that's all technically the second half of the year. Outside of Neon White, I don't care about these game myself, Skyward Sword I played on Wii and it sucks. Some good in it, but is entirely overwritten by the amount of BS and poor design in it. Fall Guys is approaching being a dead game, so I don't even know what match making will be like on it. I've had my time with it and been done for many many months. The Hyrule DLC, they showed NOTHING or barely described ANYTHING to get excited about. I liked my FE Warriors DLC, but this seems to be something much lesser. NMH 3...looked like garbage visually (like 540p? are you kidding me), so there goes a title I was excited about and absolutely drained all interest...yet again another title released on Switch that can barely run on the hardware.

2022:
Project Triangle Strategy
Splatoon
Excited for both these games...but they're probably 16 months away, if they match their Splatoon 2 and Octopath month launch dates.

Outside of that stuff...what is there? Monster Hunter looks strong, have it preordered, but the demo didn't grab me. Totally fine, looks like a quality release. Bravely Default 2, getting that this week...I did like the gameplay in the hard mode of the demos despite those doll heads and some visual muddiness bothering me, lol. Then...I dunno man. A bunch of old games I skipped out on previously, lackluster ports of "yesterday's flavor" games like Apex (I dont know why you would play a competitive game like that on Switch)...and a Mario Sports game (could be good, but that trailer was really flat and Camelot isn't a dev I get excited for). It's just all very mediocre.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

Dang69

@Zach777 How dare a consumer expect some exciting new title announcements after all this time. Bad bad bad consumer hurting the feelings of our friend Nintendo. Those Directs are a big commercial, not an artistic statement by a human being at a gallery art show. For me, the Direct was whatever. About what I expected....except for the reveal of Splatoon 3, which made my heart sing.

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games Of All Time

Dang69

@the4seer FE 3H is at 3.2 Million rn, making it the best selling in the series. However it just barely beats out Fates, HOWEVER AGAIN, Fates was sold as 2 games, so in theory twice as many people bought the Switch version, if Fates consumers bought both games (not really a Pokemon game kind of split, it's 2 different games).

Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games Of All Time

Dang69

@Friendly This is a larger list....BUT it's a bit deceptive I think, I believe it only lists software that had a million in sales IN THE LAST YEAR (that's why XBC2 isn't listed even though it was done like 2 mill) - but shows the full totals.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 33.41 million
Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 31.18 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 22.85 million
Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 21.45 million
Pokemon Sword/Shield – 20.35 million
Super Mario Odyssey – 20.23 million
Super Mario Party – 13.82 million
Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu / Eevee – 13.00 million
Splatoon 2 – 11.90 million
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 9.82 million
Luigi’s Mansion 3 – 9.13 million
Ring Fit Adventure – 8.68 million
Super Mario 3D All-Stars – 8.32 million
Super Mario Maker 2 – 6.91 million
Paper Mario: The Origami King – 3.05 million
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – 2.84 million (overseas)
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics – 2.62 million
Pikmin 3 Deluxe – 1.94 million
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – 1.48 million
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit – 1.08 million

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Frame Rate And Resolution Detailed

Dang69

@Heavyarms55 "I think people really pay too much attention to the numbers. As long as the game works and is fun, that's what matters for me." Don't completely understand this kind of comment, ever. This is a "video" game. VIDEO. I dont need 4k, I'm not a graphics junkie, but soft, 720 visuals on a big tv is straining on the eyes, and depending the type of game it is (like a shooter) the soft rez actually makes the game more difficult to play. Also 30 versus 60 fps on a platformer is not crispy and feels kinda bad (or in my case the blur of camera rotation at 30 versus 60 often strains my eyes more). And before ya yell at me about the frames on a platformer, all the NES and SNES games I grew up with DID run at 60, so it isn't a new thing.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

Dang69

@NinChocolate yup SMB3 is the best - some amazing stuff in SMW but I find a lot of redundancy in theming in the game from the worlds and levels to some of generic but cute dinosaur sprites

Re: Official Rabbids Username Tweak Fuels Speculation Over A Mario + Rabbids Sequel

Dang69

@Clyde_Radcliffe Agree with you in general, except I think they work here because they are in the Mario clothing. Nintendo is so precious with Mario being "on brand" (see all the discourse around the new Paper Mario, or how the "New" Bros look) that seeing these ugly things in Mario branded outfits, felt oddly refreshing and delightfully sacrilege. Rabbid Peach was a joy.

Re: No, Konami Isn't Exiting The Video Game Business

Dang69

If anything I'd imagine they'd refocus on their video game division, seeing how (I'm assuming) there aren't as many people accessing pachinko machines and the like. I'm willing to bet we get a ton of collections in the second half of this year from them. Bomberman Collection, Castlevania Collection part 2 (god please), etc, and next year early on, a remaster of MGS games.

Re: Review: Calico - Bursting With Heart, But Crippled By Bugs

Dang69

@Ryu_Niiyama I'm a hetero boy and that pastel color palette always appeals to me, especially when real life people dress in it or cute anime girls are designed in it, lol. The aesthetic sensation is like drinking reallllly good, fresh juice or something. I mostly wear black clothing so the exact opposite is always appealing to me.

Re: Review: Calico - Bursting With Heart, But Crippled By Bugs

Dang69

I think they fixed the bugs by the now*. My gf and her 7 yr old said it's good now, but had complained about bugs at launch.. I kickstarted it but haven't played it yet, and didn't even recommend it to them - she watched Nindie Direct and fell in love. The kid is so obsessed she wants her birthday cake themed after the game, this month. Always sendning me vids of her carrying cats around. SO there is an audience there, lol.

Her biggest criticism is "Can we hack it to be 2 players? Will Nintendo not notice if we just hack onnnnne game?"

*She just told me there is a bug "where the character gets too skinny and glitches up in the air if she plays too long".

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Is Officially The Best-Selling Musou Game Ever

Dang69

@TheFullAndy "Shipped pretty much is sold or do you think Nintendo hands out these copies to stores for free?"

Depends on the contract the retailer has with the distribution. Sometimes games can be returned by the retailer, and have the stock bought back, sometimes the stock can be returned as a credit toward future purchases. Also, and you see this with Ubisoft a lot, when games sit on shelves, game companies allow retailers a "markdown allowance". Hyrule Warriors went on sale a week or so ago, which is pretty early for a Nintendo title. So noting 2.5 mill shipped versus sell thru does mean a lot of difference, especially since "sold" means there's potentially a lot more lifeblood left in the game's shelf life. For example, try to find a physical copy of Hyrule Warriors 1 anywhere...they haven't been on shelves since early to mid 2019 because the initial run of games had to be discounted off.

Re: Atelier Ryza 2 DLC Will Include Recipes, Dungeons And - Yes - Swimsuits

Dang69

The DLC for the last one came months after, on a delayed release - expensive though. Don't understand the content controversy here, previous game walks a good balance between some fan service and having fleshed out characters that are more than cheesecake....expect for that ONE character in the last one with the weird gross huge tumor boobs.

Re: Looks Like Nintendo Accidentally Used A Fan-Made Mario Render On Its Website

Dang69

@Tourtus I work for an advertising agency...I do not understand how this happens. You NEVER EVER pull anything off the internet, even if you think it's a client owned asset. You have an Art Buyer who manages client approved assets, or you work with a folder of client direct, supplied assets. I think maybe someone bopped this in as a placeholder while waiting on an official asset, and it accidentally got pushed out thru production when someone got laid off or something.

Re: Feature: Year In Review - A Look Back At Nintendo's 2020

Dang69

Awful year. Nintendo finally broke the fan in me. I no longer buy stuff to try it, running off the 2017 high I had during 2018 and 2019, havent even touched my Switch much at all since Sept (their year report of my playtime reminded how long it's been). But between their weak lineup (which given the times is kind of understandable) but more importantly their gross new (and old) business practices...I just don't care about Nintendo much anymore, from a fan point of view, or as an interested consumer. I don't hate them nor am I excited about them. Just sort of neutral on them. They gotta work hard again for my money.

Re: Nordisk Games Acquires 40% Of Metroid: Samus Returns Developer MercurySteam

Dang69

@Menchi Underperformed is something the investors have a different angle on though. The game literally got pulled from the PS Store, a bunch of others are refunding and there are still those that may have bought this for Christmas/Hannukah etc or with said holiday money afterward. They already made all their money back and are making a profit. That's huge, but imagine how much bigger it may have been following all the preorder and first week window sales. So it is underperforming from a certain point of view, just by the fact that the unfinished nature of the console ports got the worst word of mouth I've seen since Fallout 76 and the fact it is literally not digitally purchasable from the PS Store, is impeding further sales.
