I am not sure we are in a golden age. Yes there has been some great games, but big companies have mainly played safe e.g. Shooters on.X-box, Nintendo outside BoTW and a few others. The thing that bothers me is the sheer volume of rubbish we are saturated with. Game releases were big events in the past. Now we are just saturated with the Indie games, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty etc. It becomes overwhelming, and makes games seem very throw-away. I subscribed to Game Pass on my PC, but cancelled it is I found I rarely committed to a game, and just stopped part of the way in if the game never gripped me. Because I never paid much, I never felt like I had to commit. The over saturation of poor to average indie games on the e-Shop, aggressive micro-transactions, unfinished buggy games, relentless sequels, no risk taking etc means to me it is not truly a golden age. However, at least we have games like BotW, Pokemon Legends, and God of War on the Horizon.
This behaviour makes me ashamed to be a Nintendo fan. These "raging Nintendo fanboys", as I refer to them are so pathetic and toxic it is unreal. You only need to be on any social media Nintendo fansites and other pages like Pokemon groups etc to see this. If anyone points out anything not great about Nintendo e.g. the pricing on e-Shop, relentless re-releases and lack of new franchises, Joycon drift etc, you are bombarded with pathetic abuse. I am a Nintendo fan, but I can honestly say out of all gaming communities that the raging Nintendo fans are the most toxic out of them all, and that is saying something if you read the comments in X-Box pages. Poor guy just giving a helpful opinion.
Nintendo again milking their fans out every penny. This is an insulting remaster. It manages to be a more minimal update than the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire 3DS remakes. This looks like a cheap indie game, and Nintendo will no doubt charge the full £50 for it.
The biggest multimedia franchise in history and we get this.
The modern games industry has an issue in which they do not show us footage of games that are in development. I remember the N64 days, and even Gamecube, and we were shown footage of games years in advance in big flashy shows like E3 and Spaceworld. We would then be given updates via games magazines throughout the development, and even got to see how games changed and evolved during the process. Examples I can give are Conkers Bad Fur Day, which started as Twelve Tales, and Resident Evil 4 which went through a complete transformation. Even early Zelda 64 footage was far different to what was released. Metroid Prime was originally a 3rd person game, and we saw that journey too.
I played this on PS4 and thought it was amazing, and much easier to control than the PSone original. I really do not agree with this review at all. I can't understand why it has such an undeserved low review score..
@pip_muzz I completely agree. Sunshine is a good game, but it is easily the worst 3D Mario. Nintendo were going through this "short and sweet " phase with their games at the start of the Gamecabe era as per their own words. This was evident in their other 1st party games at the time like Luigi's Mansion, Wind Waker and Pikmin 1. Mario Sunshine just felt a bit rushed and lacking the same quality as the best Mario's.
I find it absolutely hilarious that the "raging" fanboys blindly stick up for Nintendo selling a defective product and call those upset about getting a defective product and wanting their consumer rights upheld as stupid. It makes me embarrassed to call myself a Nintendo fan. I do not understand what it is about these raging fanboys. Does your hobby blind you to the reality of treatment from a company? Have any of you dealt with Nintendo Customer Service?
@TheRedComet I think they would as the Gamecube control scheme would not bode well for modern gamers. I do hope they keep the Zelda style lock on though as this worked really well for the boss fights. But for sure the option for dual analogue and motion controls for movement are a must for this game. There us no game I am more excited for so I just hope they do not dumb it down. I am sure it will be great and I do not think you have to worry about there being dual analogue controls.
@TheRedComet Gyro controls are what I want, and I hope the lock on still exists. I hear what you say about controls, but CoD single-plsyer games are so boring for me. I like my games a bit more "gamey". Metroid,'s formula is probably the most imitated on the indie scene, and I want Retro to show everyone they are the best at the formula still.
@RasandeRose Shouts out about 16 bit graphics showcase, abd disses a Sony showcase tyat can now be watched on a 4K OLED and blindly says there is no grapgical difference between that and current gen. Raging fanboyism at its worst lol
@RasandeRose You do realise that the Switch is barelynas powerful as a a PS3, and the lstest showcase was a bunch of games with 16 bit graphics. The in game graphics for Spiderman and Ratchet were incredible, and better than anytying my top of the line PC has. Not that great graphics make a good game, but they certainly enhance the experience. I am a Nintendo gamer, and always will be, but objectively, Sony's presentation is better than anything Nintendo have shown in a couple of years. Just because I am a Nintendo fan, does not make me think of everything they do is great, and look st other companies and think everything they do is worse. That is just childish raging fanboyism.
@JimmySpades PMSL. I already said I was a Nintendo fan and I never said that indie games are not gaming news. Anyone who acts butt hurt when someone points out something correct e.g Nintendo not taking ownership of Joycon Drift is what I call a "raging fanboy", someone who is so immaturely blinded by a console manufacturer, they can't see anything wrong with what they do.
@RasandeRose I would suggest you go back and rewatch the PS5 trailer again in 4k as the live stream was not great. Ratchet and Clank, Horizon and Jade shwed a massive increase in generational graphics. Much better than even my high end PC has produced. Horizon was jaw dropping.
@Dirty0814 I don't understand that? Sony showed game after game after game for all age groups. And on a care about customers note, they have incredible sales and discounts. Nintendo has shown no new Direct in over a year, out of 4 games released (including Pikmin 3) in a year, 2 are re-releases, one is on its 3rd release in a short space of time. They have abysmal sales, overpriced games, including higher priced Indie games than other consoles, will not allow cancellation of digital pre-orders and the have only just now taken ownership of Joycon drift. I am a huge Nintendo fan, more so than any other developer, but I think you have got confused by which company has shown the lack of care for its customers.
@RasandeRose But infinitely better than anything Nintendo has shown this year because they have not shown anything. Watch that presentation again in 4k and Horizon 2 looks like the next leap in gaming graphics. I am a Nintendo fan through and through but that trailer was spectacular, as was Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman and Demon's Souls. You can say that they are sequels and remakes but that would be incredibly hypocritical coming from a Nintendo fan (myself included). There were new games to like Jade and Stray, Resident Evil 8 and so on. It was a reel of games and it was great.
Jesus not again. I am sure some of these games could be good, even great but Nintendo fans are screaming out for some gaming news. The PS5 reveal was incredible, and Nintendo needs to give its fans something bigger.
@shazbot The same day sometimes. But tgis getting to be a bit of a joke tbh. There were so many rumours about 1 today but that is clearly not happening
@Dm9982 I hope it does, but it is the console the WiiU shouod have been. It came out more than half way through a console generation. They at least need to do an update to it as a lot of people are now eyeing up the PS5. Lockdown has really helped Switch ssles but Nintendo really need to show sone new software.
@TheFullAndy I agree and it is really sad. Since the 360 MS has really relied on 3rd party and promotion of their games instead of creating their own brand. It is such a shame as the original X-Box was really exciting and varied with exclusives like Oddworld, Ninja Gaiden, Halo, Project Gotham, Blinx, Panzer Dragoon, Jet Set Radio etc. But they have really went down the generic gung-ho shootery style wity their machines since. I mean they could have a few million sales of XSX straight away by making Banjo Threeie or PD2, as the long time Nintendo fans woud be straight in their wallet. It just defies belief how they are marketing their new console. There is nothing really identifiable with their brand. Nintendo and Sony has tonnes of mascots and it really helps them with brand identity. Microsoft is sitting on many too but just does nothing with them. Characters like Master Chief and Marcus Fenix do not have mass market appeal and do not appeal to all age groups.
I really wanted MS to deliver some magic next gen but so far it is not looking promising.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an incredible game however. Best game they have made in years.
@Octane Breath of the Wild was a challenging game. It had conplex puzzles, and if you did what i did i.e. used no food for boss fights, it was a decent challenge. Fingers crossed they don't dumb it down for a newer audience.
The Metroidvania style of game is more popular than ever, as it is probably the most ripped off style of game on the indie scene. Nintendo have a newer audience now with the Switch that I think Metroid games would appeal too. Also Nintendo released Metroid games for lesser selling, or more casual focussed consoles such as The Gamecube or Wii respectively. The sales of Breath of the Wild compared to other Zelda games show that Nintendo fans are screaming out for more complex games such as Metroid Prime 4. I have every faith that MP4 will be the best selling game ever in the franchise as long as it is top quality and not dumbed down. With games like Dark Souls gaining huge popularity too, it shows gamers like a complex and challenging game with no hand holding.
@datamonkey I am praying it is going to be as challenging as ever, and just have one of those optional systems like the super guide function in Donkey Kong or Super Mario Galaxy 2, or the hint system in OoT on 3DS. It needs to be a core gamer focussed game.
If the make Metroid a game to appeal to casual players, then I lose all faith in Nintendo. Metroid is supposed to be challenging. It is probably the most ripped off game template on the indie scene and Nintendo needs to show them all how it is really done. I will be hugely disappointed if they dumb it down. Metroid has always been a game for the core, and one of their most challenging franchises.
@dux It was never a Playstation exclusive it was originally a Saturn game, but became popular when it jumped to PSOne, but they were all on PC, as well, just not N64, probably due to limited cartridge space at the time.
