I've not played this one, but I have very much enjoyed my time with Monster Sanctuary.
I have a love/hate relationship with Pokemon. I played Gen 1 and 2, then fell off for years. I missed gens 3-6, and tried jumping back in with 7. While I liked the Pokemon themselves (well, enough of them anyway), I never got past the second island because I got over the game beating me to death with cut scenes every 10 paces and a story I didn't give a damn about.
And I ended up missing out on the last two because of various reasons. I've watched streams and playthroughs and neither entirely jumped out at me (the glaring technical issues of S/V notwithstanding).
I think I want Pokemon to take more risks. PLA was a nice change of pace, and despite the technical issues (seriously Gamefreak, get it together) it was a fun mixing up of the formula.
I want a Pokemon life sim. Let me be a trainer, or a breeder, or just a farmer who catches Pokemon to help me around the farm or escort me into the wilds to fend of wild Pokemon while I gather resources. If any franchise can afford to take risks it's Pokemon. Hell, how many Mystery Dungeons did we get?
I'm glad we're seeing lots of great indie games that let us scratch the itch of monster fighting and capturing without having to shell out $60 for $20 worth of product and will never go on sale.
It's gonna have to have backwards compatibility if they want me to buy it.
Trying to sell me a new console, and then going "by the way, you'll need to rebuy all your games!" is just a kick in the nards. And the whole "Just keep playing your old Switch" argument is weak. If that's the case, then why buy the new one at all? My Switch runs the games I play just fine, and if I want to play something that needs more processing power I'm just gonna use my computer.
In this day and age releasing a new console without BC is basically holding a sign up that says "we don't respect you in any capacity." There's no good reason to not include it (and porting over digital collections) than pure greed and anti-consumerist nonsense.
Not a huge battle royale fan, and I've never watched or read MHA. But this does look kinda fun, even to a salty old man like me who mostly despises online multi-player.
I just hope the characters don't constantly spout off catch phrases like they did in this video. That would need to be turned off really quick, or play on mute.
Shame about the menus being such utter trash. I never got a chance to play Gloomhaven on the tabletop, and looks like I'll be passing on this digital version as well.
Looks like my go to TTRPG card battle game will remain the excellent Card Hunter. Now, if only we could get a switch port of that I'd be a happy man.
And it's a project of love. It's not something being rushed out by some soulless megacorporation with zero concerns for whether or not it's actually good/functions so they can try to squeeze a few more dollars out of people.
If it has BC then it's a maybe from me, if the new specs actually matter. I don't give a toss about 4k, my TV isn't 4k so that means literally nothing to me in terms to value.
More processing power? Great. Able to run at higher FPS? Sure, that'd be nice too. Upping native to 1080p? I'd be happy with that.
But if I need to rebuy even my miniscule library then I'm out. Besides, for the types of games I'm playing the current Switch seems to work just fine.
Shame about the NPCs. Maybe they'll get some more conversations with a patch.
But, everything else about this game looks so fun and charming. Maybe this will be the farming sim where I stay defiantly single and just become the beat damned farmer the world has ever seen.
I must be the weird one, because I could never get into Rune Factory. I always felt like the story they were trying to put into the game just either got in the way or felt pretty weak.
So this'll be a pass from me. I'm more excited about Fae Farm, personally.
Considering Volition's reaction to the fans when the Saints Row reboot flopped, it's sort of hard to feel sorry for them. I know it wasn't the entire company being idiots, but still.
The people with skill will hopefully find new work, and the people who were dicks to the fanbase will hopefully not.
Also, this is why mergers are bad. This is why companies like EA and Embracer need to be prevented from just gobbling up anyone smaller than they are because all they do is go "you didn't make the CEO another literal boatload of money this quarter? Out you go!"

Re: Dave The Diver Hits 3 Million Global Sales
Good for them! These games made with passion and love for a fun idea deserve all the praise they recieve.
Re: Magikarp And Gyarados Make A Splash In Pokémon Unite Later This Month
Bro, what?
I mean, I'm all for this sort of nonsense, but this is just wild.
So of course I'm gonna play Magikarp all the time.
Re: Pokémon Unite Adds Another Pokémon To The Roster This Week
I haven't played Unite in a hot minute, but Metagross might get me back in.
Still waiting for my boy Empoleon to make the roster, though. Give. Me. Angry. Penguin!

Re: My Time At Sandrock Director Promotes Switch Port And Announces Portia Update
I'm tempted by this. Portia had a lot of charm going for it, and it was nice to get a life sim where you weren't a farmer.
But my God was that game a mess. Audio dropping out, some things fully voiced and then the next sentence wasn't, just buggy as hell.
If this can deliver a consistent experience that isn't that then it will get a look from me.
Re: Disney Dreamlight Valley Dev Shares Update About "Cozy Edition" Launch
@Raw_Dawg
"If you don't want to pay $30, get game pass."
Is that even an option on Switch? Because if not, probably not the best advice on a Nintendo website.
Re: Disney Dreamlight Valley Dev Shares Update About "Cozy Edition" Launch
@hippydave
Yeah, I'm confused by this too. How is it F2P if you have to pay for a "physical" copy to get a code to play it?
Or will there be a legit F2P download on the eShop that just doesn't include all the other stuff in this "physical" bundle?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 21st)
I just got For The King the other day on sale, so I'm gonna be playing that.
Re: Review: Harvest Moon: The Winds Of Anthos - Terrible Title, Pretty Alright Game
Glad to hear it's taking steps in the right direction.
Might grab this if it goes on sale. $50 feels just a tad too steep for me.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?
Most of my games are digital, but I have a small handful that are physical and I'd be irked to not be able to play them on a new console.
Ultimately, though, if a new console comes out and is in any way not backwards compatible then I ain't buying it.
Re: Guns And Spurs 2 Attempts To Give Red Dead Redemption Some Cowboy Competition
Wow. Just...wow. That looks phenomenally bad.
The idea is good, be a bounty hunter and go do your thing. I like the idea of being able to make my own character, too.
But dear lord that looks terrible. The graphics look flat and the animations look like something from an early 3D game on Newgrounds.
Re: Stardew Valley Creator Celebrates Social Media Milestone With Another Look At His New Game
@TotalHenshin
You make that sound like a bad thing. Part of Stardew's charm is the visuals.

Re: Soapbox: What Do You Do When Nintendo Ticks Off Your ENTIRE Most-Wanted List?
I could go on rattling off games.

Eric Barone is what gaming should be.
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022
Oh boy, more rumors. Until Nintendo actually comes out and presents the specs these articles accomplish nothing of value.
And if the new console isn't BC or let me port over my existing library (small as it may be) then it's a hard pass from me.
Re: Level-5 Premieres Multiple Trailers For Its Upcoming Switch Games
Fantasy Life looks cute and fun. Might check that out if it isn't too pricey.
Re: Early Tech Analysis Investigates Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door Switch FPS & Resolution
As long as the game runs well, smooth and isn't a mess then I'm happy.

Re: Nintendo Is "Evolving" Into An Entertainment Company, According To Doug Bowser
I'm cool with it, as long as we get good stuff out of it.
Team up with the folks at IDW and give us some dope comics set in famous worlds (but not adaptations of the games themselves, please).

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct - All Announcements, Features, Power-Ups, Worlds
@shonenjump86
That was my thought as well. I want the characters to play and feel different, otherwise they might as well just all be pallet-swaps of Mario.
Re: Front Mission 2: Remake Showcases Features In New Switch Trailer
@WanzerAce
Same, although I forgot how unapologetically brutal the first game could be. I'm no strategic master, but dear lord the RNG is rough.
Re: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk "Official Special Trailer" Unveiled Ahead Of Launch
I'm super stoked for this. Loved me some JSRF back in the day, so I've got money set aside for this one.
Only issue is it doesn't show up on the eshop on my Switch? Is this not getting a digital release?
