I just beat the elite four on Pokemon Red (Blue is my go to, and was the version I had as a kid) where I glitched a legit Mew so I'm proud of that file.
Was debating one of the discounted games on 3ds but nothing jumped out at me so I just started a new file on Ocarina 3D. I'v run out of ideas of what special runs I should do. I've done master quest and 3 heart challenge (even on the original on Wii, I can tell you so many differences between the original and remake).
I never played Chrono Trigger as a child yet I'd put it up there with ocarina of time as one the best experiences videogames can offer. In terms of rpgs, nothing comes close.
The undertones are deep. Games like Chrono Trigger are the reason I play videogames.
People are moaning about the game? Let them. I actually want the game to stay niche. Plus I just found the Japanese ds version has english language support. It's so much cheaper than the EU or US here in the UK.
I think its a disgrace how third party support was dead in the water once Nintendo stopped releasing games. The 3ds is my favourite system of all time and it died with a splat. Disgrace...The vita is even still having new games made for it!
Why so much negativity? I'm absolutely hyped. Most excited I'v been for a lotr game since Two Towers on Gamecube. This is day one for me and I'm almost as excited for this as for Breath of the Wild 2.
Yes, I'm a big lotr fan.
Also, Lotr TT on gameboy advance has got to be one of the most underrated games on the system.
The original wii's virtual console will never be beaten and was an absolute treasure trove of retro classics.
Right now my wii is connected to my tv and I use a hdmi converter to play. It's annoying some of my games don't display such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe but I know that's only temporary since it's a problem with the hdmi converter (if anyone knows how to fix it please let me know!)
It's so sad the virtual console service ended.
I have both N64 Zeldas, Mario Kart 64, Street Fighter 2, Secret of Mana, Zelda: lttp, Super Metroid, Sin and Punishment, Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe and Zelda Nes. Missing a few games like Chrono Trigger but it's such a good collection even as it is.
Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers on Switch. Such an underrated game. Starting to compulsively play Street Fighter 2 on multiple platforms. Really want to play one of the spin offs like Marvel vs Capcom.
Zelda: Twilight Princess on wii. Still have my save from 2007 where I have clocked 98 hours and almost 100% the game. But what I've been doing this weekend is getting through the frustrating goron mines. That part of the game is such a slog. Through it now. Want to get up to the abandoned mansion dungeon. That is a great dungeon.
@Lilmonix3 Pokemon X&Y was good I thought. Although nowhere near as good as what it could have been considering how well made Red&Blue were for their era.
I skipped Sword and Shield...I've heard so many negative things, and the game just looks lazy.
Pokemon Legends looks good though...lets see how it reviews.
@jemil1992 Sounds good. I heard the lighting is slightly different. Grezzo usually do a great job of 3ds remakes.
I only have a regular 3ds so I'm lucky it wasn't a 'new' 3ds title.
Have played the second one but never finished it. I did finish the original on Gamecube though. The series doesn't appeal to me anymore but I'd still go back and play a remake of the original.
@jemil1992 I really need to get the Luigi's Mansion remake. It came out so late in the 3ds lifecycle I missed it. I heard they added achievements. How is the remake?
@russell-marlow I can emulate N64 games on my £40 cheap android phone. If you've got an 8bitdo controller you can connect it via bluetooth and youve got the whole N64 library at your fingertips for free.
@Tyranexx Ah I see. Must have been good to have finally played the N64 Zeldas. 3ds is such a treasure trove of old games. The pokemon and dragon quest games have so many entries. And backwards compatibility is such a plus. Pick up Chrono Trigger if you can find it anywhere, I played that for the first time as an adult and it still left a massive impression on me.
Same about the Majora's Mask direct! And the game came out the following March, it was so quick. Probably the most I'd been excited for a game since Twilight Princess on Gamecube and until Breath of the Wild.
@Tyranexx Yeah, same. The best versions of the N64's Zeldas are on 3ds. They're improved in so many ways. I know Majora's Mask is a contentious issue but I much prefer the accessibility of the 3ds version. It's my favourite 3ds game. And the European Special Edition is beautiful. I've put over 500 hours into both those titles on my original 3ds.
Shout out to Golden Axe as well, great game. If SEGA still own the ip they should give it a rough, medieval feeling remake. With dragons.
In terms of this Expansion Service, the main thing that is edging me towards not getting it is that we won't actually own the games. All our saves will be gone when the Switch eventually dies.
@Rosalinho Nailed it...Nintendo is legendary because of their artistic vision. Nintendo almost has a pantheon. GTA gives the whole industry a bad name, and deservedly so.
I don't dislike Rockstar or their games. I actually play a lot of their titles. But the videogame industry definitely isn't about murdering prostitutes.
I've been playing Dungeon Explorer DS. It's actually really addictive despite the terrible visuals. Trying to collect as many obscure DS hidden gems as possible.
I'll tell you what the worst sound is. The Mabe Village theme in Links Awakening. That tune grates on me so bad. I turn the music off every time I go to that area.
I'm almost halfway through my marathon of N64 Zelda titles on 3ds (most beautiful, artistic, inspiring games on the system in my opinion). Also, linked to this debating doing a Majora's Mask 3 heart run, but the side quests are what make that experience so don't know if it's worth it. Or I could try an 100% the ocarina of time 3d file I have where I'm missing like 3 heart pieces, but it will be a mission working out which ones I'm missing? May as well start by getting the ice arrows .
Also, can I write some Nintendo related articles for you guys?
Great article. I think Termina ceasing to exist after link leaves implies it was some kind of delusion or psychosis that only existed in links head. But I don't want to believe this, Termina is such a rich world and in some parallel universe/dimension/reality it does still exist. I'm not accepting it disappears when link leaves.
We need more good licensed games on Switch. The PS2 era had loads. A good Lord of the Rings game would sell well I think. I know the Gollum game is coming, but who knows when.
This really pisses me off. I don't think mainstream English media have a right to write about videogames, even the BBC. They are the enemy tbh. This is our medium, and these greasy snakes have no right to comment, whether positively or negatively.
Like when the BBC posts mario or zelda articles, they have no right. I actually want it to remain a subculture. Don't let these totalitarian liars and manipulators go near videogames. Especially Nintendo.
Hyped for this. Never played San Andreas and heard it has gameplay systems that are new compared to the other two games. Really wanted it to release on GameCube back in the day.

I've been playing Dungeon Explorer DS. It's actually really addictive despite the terrible visuals. Trying to collect as many obscure DS hidden gems as possible.
Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons
@Lyricana OK, with that logic it should have a working port for a rumble pack/transfer pack etc.
The n64 analogue stick was literally broken. They should include a better, more modern analogue stick. Quality of Life improvement.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 9th)
Will play Metroid Dread at some point...looks awesome but £50 for a 10 hour metroidvania??? I dno about that one.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 9th)
Ocarina of Time 3d....Trying to get the ice arrows early to use on Bongo Bongo.
Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons
Still can't believe they haven't updated the analogue stick. £50...way too much.
Re: Banjo-Kazooie Is 'Coming Home' To A Nintendo Console Via Switch Online
@sketchturner online multiplayer in Goldeneye would be great.
Re: Nintendo Is Releasing N64 And Sega Genesis Wireless Controllers
There is no way they can release the original N64 controller with an original stick...right? Why wouldn't they upgrade it.
Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October
@sanderev
Thanks for the confirmation.
That really means I may as well play them on an emulator on a phone or tablet.
This is a bad move. Selling games as a service like Netflix isn't right in my opinion. I like to own games, they have nostalgic and sentimental value.
Re: Nintendo 64 And Sega Genesis Expansion Pack Announced For Switch Online, Launches This October
This is Nintendo protecting their property like the gods that they are.
Do you need to be online to play these games? In 10 years will I even be able to play these N64 games or still have my saves?
Il stick to the improved N64, and Megadrive games on the powerhouse 3ds.
Thanks for this mess Nintendo.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The September 2021 Nintendo Direct
Zelda Ocarina of Time HD...

Nerding it out reading the Silmarillion and playing the underrated and obscure Dungeon Explorer and Orcs an Elves on DS.
