Looking for a football fix that's not FIFA or PES? Then why not hold out for the arcade-style game Sociable Soccer - which is currently scheduled for a Nintendo Switch release on 17th April 2022.
Yes, that's right, "Sociable Soccer" - the spiritual successor to the classic Sensible Soccer series - has done a deal with consoles, including Nintendo's hybrid system. Up until now, it's been an Apple Arcade exclusive.
Kiss Publishing says the initial PC/console version of the game will be branded Sociable Soccer '22. Although it's a follow-up, this will be the "full vision" of everything developer Tower Studios wants to do, according to Sensible Soccer creator, Joe Hare:
"Obviously graphically, we can push things further, and also there is a whole bunch of features we want to put into the game, which we can now launch with on the PC/console side. So, it’s an exciting time."
There'll be ongoing support for the new versions of the game, too:
“We’re in the rolling feast of the development world these days, so there are features that we’ll get in for the version in April, and then there will be more features as we go along, rolling out every six months or so... Effectively, we’re almost branching development into the next generation of engine.”
“We’ve now put the final piece in the jigsaw, which is the PC/console to go with the mobile publishing that we had.”

@Vyacheslav333 Why?
I like the 90s trance music on the trailer! Reminds me of the music in the Rock Steady club in Conker's Bad Fur Day. That music blew my mind coming out of an N64 back in the day.
@Vyacheslav333 and here I am, desperately wanting to be able to play Fantasian.
❗Looks like my type of thing as FIFA/PES is too real/boring* for me.
*I prefer to play ⚽️ in the real world.
It’s a terrible game. At least they weren’t able to use the Sensi name, and thus desecrate the memory of that great game series.
Heh, I was just playing Sensible Soccer on my Evercade! I'm not sure if Sociable quite hits the mark, though.
Big fan of sensible (world of) soccer. We still organise world cups for it. We r to poland this year.
Sociale soccer in apple arcade is a nice arcadey soccer game. But it hasn’t got much to do with sensible soccer.
Swos 2020 is a rebuilt version of the game, with the amiga gameplay on modern pc’s with higher resolution.
@Gwynbleidd
Don't talk yourself down. I believe in you! 😆
@Ooyah I just picked up the codemasters pack today. Looking forward to a bit of sensible soccer.
Spiritual successor? Says who?
Just give us a perfectly emulated version of SWOS and we'll all be happy.
This looks terrible.
@Gwynbleidd
I will look forward to seeing your debut for Real Madrid! Remember that you're a goal scoring superstar hero!
I hate the phrase spiritual successor. Basically, here is a half rate game and we will sell it off the back of a well loved codemasters game.
Love those alliterations
Codemasters should just release the original on all platforms with online play.
Played Sensible World of Soccer to death on Amiga back in the day - Conquered Europe with lowly Livingstone in career mode if I remember correctly - with Zinedine Zidane bossing the midfield. Also still available on Xbox store for those that have access to it.
This game doesn't remind remind me of Sensible Soccer at all though - the camera angle on part that trailer actually remind me more of early FIFA games with the isometric view.
@protocol_penguin Jon Hare has spent the last 25 years desecrating the name Sensible Soccer, bit late to be worrying about that now.
Haven't played it but it looks a bit ropey. I was one of the few who backed this on Kickstarter, though I had my reservations about doing so. I loved Sensi too much, I just had to give it the benefit of the doubt. But the development and promotion of this game has been so astoundingly inept I am just tired of it by now. 6+ years of development and this is all they have to show for it? Their useless CM has been trailing this announcement for a few weeks now and as I type this, still no mention on the official Twitter feed. Whatever. I guess he's too busy reading Viktor Orban's feed. Lovely guy.
Anyway, i find it odd the approach taken with this game - in the excellent book about Sensible Software, Jon Hare goes to great length to explain why Sensi didn't work in 3D, and yet here we are with a 3rd attempt to do it in 3D. What's that all about?
I never thought I'd say this but I'm just tired by now of Sensi. 25 years of bs since the last good release. I'm done.
Hey there! Just fresh of the V.O feed and wanted to come in and say thanks for your comments and if you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to contact me. This news is a big step forward with a great publisher stepping in over a long time which will help us realize our visions. Also big thanks to Nintendo life for posting this! (Sociable Soccer's CM)
