The Nintendo Switch will soon be 5 years old, which is quite a landmark; it's still showing incredible momentum and has already outsold the Wii. It's at that point in the generation where plenty are wondering how much longer it'll be Nintendo's main system, and our habits as owners will also be evolving as the library grows.
Also coming into its fifth year is The State of Switch Survey, which is run by Switch Weekly. It typically draws over 10,000 submissions each year, with the 15 minute survey covering topics ranging from your gaming habits, which system iterations you own, your opinion on the system's durability, features you want to see and much more besides.
The 2022 survey is now live, running until early March with results to be published later in the month. You can access it on this official page or the link at the end.
We reckon it's well worth taking the time to fill it in, as it could give some interesting data on the current Switch userbase (particularly enthusiasts online), and the community's views on a broad range of topics.
The question on 'how many Switch games do you own' was certainly an eye opener for this scribe, anyway...

The state of the Switch will be awesome if MK9 rumor is true
Most of switch owners are facing joy con issues, I hope the survey cover that part. Even if it did, nintendo must do drastic changes to the joy cons. This comment may not be related but as an owner of several joy cons, they all went wrong after a short period of gaming.
Thought this was an official survey at first. A bit disappointing it's not. I actively used to enjoy filling out surveys on Club Nintendo to give them my feedback on why I bought various products and what I thought of them. I think they may have brought back the surveys on My Nintendo for after you've played, but I can't be bothered with it since the rewards are so bad.
Everybody mention the lack of folders! Such a simple thing for Nintendo to add that would help a lot of us organise our games better. I can live without themes but folders actually have a practical benefit
Currently I have 354 games for Switch. Which is just ridiculous really.
It’s not an official survey. Are they forwarding this onto Nintendo?
Right now, between physical and digital, i have 288 games. And still growing. Waiting 4 physical games to be delivered to me and probably lots of digital games still to be bought. And it's not even my only console. Also nearly 300 games on Xbox (without including gamepass) and 40 games for ps4 (yeah... i use it mainly for exclusives like Guilty Gear Xrd and Strive).
But yeah, switch still have lots of live. And whatever they do next, i expect to be like switch: portable and home. Because after the switch i need more than ever an hybrid system. If the next Nintendo console is not hybrid i will be dissapointed. Switch is just a masterpiece.
I guess as far as nintendo are concerned, Sales figures of both hardware and software are the main barometer of its current state. It'll be interesting to see how steam deck fares in a couple of weeks time, although I don't expect it to particularly impact on the switches future figues
@AcridSkull good effort, I can't match that although I'm well into the 200's. Was a bit of a mare when I gave the missus my og switch and upgraded to the oled (downloading the digital library)
Done and dusted. Nice time killer honestly.
Just finished filling it out. 'Twas fun, even if not official. I really enjoy stuff like this. Which is probably why I should get off my laurels (whatever those are) and start a review channel or something.
That was a long survey.
I took it and a corner of the internet will be weirdly upset that I still like the Switch as it exists today. Also, that was a fairly lengthy survey.
That was fun. I enjoyed it.
Can you add the link to last year's survey results?
Well i think is the only console that still providing nice games keep it up. We waiting for a new powerful switch with 4k resolution.
Pretty fun survey. Covered pretty much everything.

Interesting survey. Personally, I'm just here for the exclusives. Anything else gets purchased on Steam.
My wife & I just upgraded to the OLED model, our kids have Switch Lites, and I’m sitting at right around 800 or so games in my library. I love the Switch more than any other console I’ve ever had, and my only real “want” is more power. I don’t care if it’s a little heavier or whatever- I’m stoked to play my OLED model for a good couple years and it would be rad for the successor to just have a little more oomph. That’s it, it’s an amazing machine and I hope Nintendo keeps going with the hybrid concept cause it fits my life and it’s probably the reason I’ve been able to get back into gaming as a parent of two with a busy life.
It asked me if I have ordered a steam deck lol
for all its flaws, I love my switch oled.
pros - beautiful screen, fantastic games, good battery life
cons - miss out on next gen games, slow down occurs sometimes even in the menu system, some of the games are prohibitively expensive.
@Matthew90
It asked me if I ordered a Steam Deck
And I clicked YES 😉
I wish I could've said yes to the Steam Deck, but the pre order page laughed at my face with the sould out 😭
Folders would be great
Show what's been installed and what is not like ps4
@Apollon 4k only good for movies not video games
Is "Switchweekly" something official from Nintendo or a private (commercial) website?
The most difficult question is to pick ONE thing to improve. Yeah, I chose folders of course.
I'm absolutely amazed at how I didn't drop Switch after three months of playing. Like all other consoles I have. It's been a fantastic year with the console, I've finished like 40 games and have a good backlog to keep me occupied for the next few years.
@Coxula it's a private weekly newsletter that aggregates Switch news. I checked a few past entries and decided to subscribe. They've been doing these surveys for ~five years it seems.
I'm very excited to see what the data shows for the expansion pack. How many people subscribe, if HHD was a contributing factor, if they think it's worth the price, how much would they pay if it were cheaper, what games they would need to convince them, etc.
Filled it out
@JaxonH lol me too. I'm looking forward to seeing the overall results. But not at much as I'm looking forward to my Steam Deck HEYYYYOOOOO!
@Zverik thanks. I actually found and read it already. Very interesting read. I'm most excited about the findings concerning the expansion pack this time.
@Ryu_Niiyama Ha! Nintendo can't read.
@Gryffin what? I don’t understand your comment.
I'm going to have to wait until I get home from work to count how many games I have lol
#StateOfSwitch
I hope Nintendo keeps Supporting Nintendo Switch for at least another 6 Years! Nintendo Switch is the best thing I've played on since the Super Nintendo!
@AcridSkull Do you have Mystik Belle, Pikmin 3, Sakuna, and Cotton Reboot? What about Link’s Awakening, Mario Maker 2, and Captain Toad?
Just checking… 🙂
I don’t know how many games I have… far fewer, was just listing some games I care about, some of which don’t get enough attention… even if a few ARE multi-million sellers. 😛
EDIT: Oh, how about Kamiko? Surprisingly pleasant game, even if a little simplistic.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I've lost more digital games that I know are stored on my Switch (or forgot), than I ever lost cartridges. I even remember all the cartridges I lost:
-SMT4 Apocalypse
-Witcher 3 (although I didn't actually lose it, I found it... Apparently the bad taste doesn't protect them from being chewed up by dogs.)
I hardly have an idea of what's on my Switch, what's installed and what's not,...
@Medic_Alert I fully agree, but I think resolution will always be dependent on a developers priorities. Given more power, they might want to use it for other visual or technical stuff over resolution, no matter how much extra power they get. Or even to just be more lazy with porting games built for more powerful hardware.
I'm glad with smooth experience with a timeless art direction that ages well and looks like a cartoon or whatever, but some would try to squeeze in that 'ray tracing' or whatever at the cost of frames and pixels. Depending on the game and how many pixels and frames are lost, that might arguably be the better choice.
Wow, I didn't realize how many games I have, I have 26 all together and my most played games were animal crossing, ace attorney and fire emblem three houses.
Have you ever subscribed to the NOS?Please give a reason why
No, because it's rubbish.
That was easy
😜
I found out that I have 70 games, both digital and physical.
Woah
@rockodoodle Have not heard of that? care to send a link?
@DK-Fan After seeing several several people mention their total, I’m curious to know mine lol. I think it’s around 30-35 physical, and no idea about digital. Maybe 50 or 60 total? I’ll have to count em up 😛
And do compilations only count as 1? Like RE Origins? Bayo 2+1? It gets tricky when going for a definitive count… Like I’m guessing more people would be willing to count those as multiple games than day Mega Man or Namco collections, but why? I think I’ll just have to include all collections that were purchased as one package, as one title… even if ultimately I’ll have a good few more actual games. (Or I’ll just do two lists, one list full of asterisks, whatever.)
Thanks for reading DK-Fan, you’re a real champ. I like DK pretty well too. Lol
@AJ1 Never had any joycon issues and I've owned both a Lite and OLED and only play in handheld.
Survey is sponsored by Premium Editions.
@Shiro28 https://gamerant.com/mario-kart-9-crossroad-leaks-nintendo-experimentation-switch-era/
Sounds like there are some concerns about Steam Deck and the next console.
I answered 15 for nintendo switch games I own, then I realized I own 25 physically and own more digitally
@JustMonika i have OG switch and i dont play button mashing games on my switch, mostly first party platformers but still encountered the issue twice. But in both joy cons the issue will dissappear while playing handheld, once their out is when the problems starts.
Just finished! I voted for Nintendo to bring back F-ZERO.
@BlubberWhale I don't have Mystik Belle, Pikmin 3, or Mario Maker 2.
I finished Link’s Awakening and traded it in, Captain Toad I played on Wii U.
kamiko I've finished, it's a really lovely little game, just like the Fairune collection.
Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, and Cotton Reboot are both on my wishlist waiting for a deep discount.
I couldn't think of a much wanted NES/SNES/64 game so I just put Earthbound since it should be there. Themes and eShop music of course. I'd kill for a Gamecube library
@AJ1 I play mostly visual novels which requires screen taps, lol .. also FPS'S, RPG's and horror games. Those require more buttons being pressed.. but still a majority of the time I'm reading or watching, lol
@Ryu_Niiyama oh it was just a bad joke lol
@Gryffin Oh, sorry. But that means you were in a good mood, so I hope you still are!
@Ryu_Niiyama I am haha thanks!
