As you may have seen, we've shared our first hands on impressions of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and it's looking like it could be a hoot later this month. We can all see for ourselves, though, as a demo is out now on the eShop (we've checked it's there for both EU and NA stores)!
It had leaked slightly early, it seems, as it was initially posted and then apparently removed on this website for Lawson (a retailer) in Japan. The website had actually suggested it was on the way on 7th March, @Akfamilyhome spotted it.
Nintendo has also published a snazzy new overview trailer that you can see at the top of the page.
If you enjoy your time with the demo and want to pick up the full game, make sure to consult our pre-order guide to find the best deals!

NOOOOO WHY NOW WHEN IM AT SCHOOL OH NOOOOOOOO.
Okay, I will try the demo.
Yes, will try it later.
Awesome, love it when first party games get demos!
There's no option to download a demo from from the www.nintendo.co.uk site, so I can't surprise my offspring with it ready-to-play
Oh well, I'll just have to tell them the news this afternoon
...
Another major nintendo game gets a demo? AWESOME! SO hyped for this game!
The first trailer looked like the gameplay was really slow but now I'm sure I'm gonna play this game one day. So many abilities that affect Kirby's movement, looks fun!
@Chapapa Yeah, they definitely should do demos more often
@TSR3 It does show for me, when I visit nintendo.co.uk, maybe try again? Logged in with my german account though.

I'm still deep in Legends Arceus. But I'm happy to see a demo.
That Advance Wars Reboot Camp demo is looking good!
@TSR3
Check again, I just started my download from there!
Demo downloading. Thanks for the heads up, NL!
I didn't think this one would get a demo - seeing how so many are familiar with Kirby. Super pumped - even though I was buying this one anyway.
Summer game with the fam is Kirby this year!
And here I am at work 😑. I’ll try it out later in the evening.
@Chapapa Thanks for the heads up. I must have been too early last time. Breaking news ahead of the facts and all that. My offspring is gonna be totally over the moon when she gets home from school
My son will be delighted we LOVE Kirby and this is looking great.
@RupeeClock @1UP_MARIO cheers as well
@shonenjump86 Download it to your Switch from work, so it’s ready to go when you get home. That’s what I just did.
WOW WAIT WHAT? DOWNLOADING RIGHT NOW
@Harmonie I hope you enjoy both! 😊
@JokerCK GO GO GO
@mjharper Enjoy! 😍
Already pre-ordered, but this is great to make sure I really like it! I did not expect this, but really appreciate it.
perfect. Will download asap
Can we transfer the save to the full game?
@TSR3 was thinking the same thing 😅
Im at work rightnow but i did downloaded from Nintendo's website 😃
OhMyGod OhMyGod OhMyGod. There's a DEMO!..and I need to downloadit. OmgOmgOmg
Awesome. I’ll give it a go sometime this weekend. Glad to see more demos!
Dont tell my boss.... but trying right now!
Kirby bouyt to get dem big #s
Just downloading right now.
To the eshop!!!
GAME OF THE YEAR
You get a couple of nice codes at the end, to use in the full game.
Super cool! I'm only buying one copy of this game, so I'll tell my kiddos to download the demo for their Switches and that will tide them over for now.
@DreamlandGem
So happy to see 2p co-op in action - and even in some minigames! Forgotten Land is looking really cute and a lot more interesting for me than the last Kirby game.
Oh cool! Definitely didn't expect a demo, but I'll of course try it.
It's similar to the Metroid Dread demo, in that I know I'm getting the game anyway, and the demo is a way to alleviate the tension of the hype haha. 😜
That's great but I don't plan on playing the game, for now!
Yes yes yes!! Brilliant demo!
Shadow-dropped demo? Alright, fine by me.
Gonna have to tear myself away from Risk of Rain 2's new DLC, I guess!
Oh this is exciting news!! Work closed early today because of a snowstorm, so I'll be downloading it as soon as I get home. Let's goooooo
Finished playing it. It's ok, but not for me. I really like Nintendo providing demo's though.
SCREW THE DEMO 64 DEDEDE IS BACK WOOOOOOOO
@WolfyWardark what do you mean by codes?
I'm disappointed by the demo, for some reason I thought it was going to have some minor open world elements and a bit more challenge than your typical Kirby game. It's pretty to look at but it was so linear and easy, not to mention really slow and floaty feeling (albeit just the first three levels), so I have cancelled my pre-order. I am glad the demo ended up saving me money but now I don't know what I'll play for the next couple months besides the new Mario Kart levels.
Demo and it's fun just no 360 view or able to pan camera. This would be helpful and add more excitement. Keeping my preorder for the PINS as those will be gone sooner or later for preorders. I got a load of Diamond/Pearl Pins and happy to get them to keep around.
@Pirate1 They're little rewards for finishing the demo.
You can use the Present Codes to get extra items in the release version. Enter them at Waddle Dee-liveries, which will open as you progress through the story.
@WolfyWardark oh cool, thanks for that info!
i played the demo and it made me more hyped to play the first 3D mainline Kirby game.
@Fizza LOL I FEEL THAT HARD BRO
Haha, I played the demo and it already feels like my game of the year. I always loved Kirby titles and this one just feels so good to me. I’m too excited for this
@Teksetter I agree, it's super fun from what I've played so far! I really hope you all enjoy it as much as I am 😊
@Sora181 Same here, it's extremely fun! 😍
@Vriess That's totally valid, also why I think demos are a great idea! 🙌
I understood “Join Kirby on a new 3-D adventure… IN HELL!” (instead of “inhale!”) and wow.
Awesome! I'm already 100% sold on the game, so should I even bother playing this and spoil myself, though...?
Ah, who am I kidding, OF COURSE I AM!
this was great fun, love the details like using ice for a long while on the boss actualy ends up freezing em, levels are pretty long this time too!
Oh my god I need to download this right now! I almost missed this news!
Was planning to pick this game up later in the year but after playing the demo, enjoying playing the levels and being left with the desire for more after Nintendo teased me with various Mouthful Mode options I rushed to base.com to pre-order this.
@imgrowinglegs ah, I read your advice a little too late. Came home and downloaded it. I appreciate that though.
im doing it rn. it looks pretty cool and the car thing was really nice
@ThomasBW84 were you (or any other NL staff) able to play the demo and the Hands-On? Is the demo representative of the hands-on?
This game looks so bad without motion clarity or dejudder or whatever any given smart TV calls it when it increases the smoothness of motion. I enjoyed the demo, but without frame interpolation/dejudder I don't think I'd be able to enjoy playing this 30fps Kirby game. I love the way Mario 3D World and Mario Odyssey look, and was hoping we'd get the same match for the native frame rate of the Switch with this game... (hopefully Advance Wars doesn't cut the GBA and DS frame rate in half when it comes to Switch...)
But Carby, please more Carby! It's too cute and fun!
I'm just worried the entire game is gonna be too easy.
Day 1 purchase for me. That demo was so much fun.
@WaveBoy Yeah, we have a test case approximating this situation. What's that 3D action platformer called?! I keep thinking of Mail Mole or whatever (which runs pretty nicely, mostly at 60, sometimes slightly below, on Switch), but this is a game on Switch and Series X. It's fun, you dive underground and pop up into enemies. Anyways, it runs locked at 120fps on Series X and 30fps on Switch. Such a huge gulf twixt frame rates! WRC 9 and 10 run at 120fps on PS5 (not locked, but pretty close) and 30 on Switch. It just kinda bums me out because I like Nintendo games way more, in general, than other games. At least I can take pride in the very low energy usage of Switch!
But I would love to be able to play Triangle Strategy (why couldn't they pick a name of a character or nation from the game, put Tactics or Strategy after that proper noun, and let that be the name of the game?!), Kirby, Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion 3, Astral Chain, BotW, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, Animal Crossing, and many others (including the 60fps Switch games) at 120fps. Maybe 60fps handheld/120fps docked!
Oh, and I've only had trouble with input lag when playing a racing game while using motion clarity/dejudder. Every other type of game I enjoy playing just fine with the motion smoothening/motion interpolation/black frame insertion/dejudder/whatever on. Like with this Kirby demo I liked playing it with motion clarity maxed out, all the motion interpolation stuff going full blast. It makes the game look like 60fps, and feels nice to play. Input lag only usually bothers me if it is pretty extreme. Oh, and I don't like it in shoot em ups, but I'm not super sensitive to it with those games either. Like the Gunbird and Strikers games on Switch feel ok to me. I'd always rather have input lag eliminated, but I'll play games like Gunbird 2 on Switch.
this is so cool to see, nintendo is kicking ass this year. i know this doesn't seem like much, but demos for huge upcoming games? Awesome! A shadow-drop update that gives us missions and rewards? AWESOME! At least 2 big games coming the next 2 months and even more stuff coming at the end of the year? AAAWWESOOOMEEE! I really have faith that this year is nintendo's, just wait and see.
@WaveBoy Yeah, got it. I guess I'm glad I can tolerate latency and input lag as much as I can. I'd be unable to enjoy tons of games otherwise. I've already preordered Kirby. I guess I could cancel it, but probably won't. I'll have fun as long as it's smoothed out by my TV.
I wish they could just give a nice working 60fps engine (like Mario Odyssey or Mario 3D World or Mario Kart 8) to the Pokemon team, the Kirby team, the Astral Chain team, etc. Like, here's the polygon budget, the resolution budget, the particle budget, etc. Now you can put your own texture maps, models, etc into it and it will run at 60 on Switch in handheld and docked. And do the same with 120fps graphics engines on PS5 and Series X. I'm sure it's complicated, but something like that seems possible.
Is it one of those demos that lets you transfer progress to the actual game?
Wow, everything is pink here! Nice!
And… I might get this… probably will, but… 30fps? Really? Sigh… well, maybe I’ll be able to wait for a good deal. Kinda seems like little more than Star Allies in 3D, but that alone is admittedly just about enough to tempt me. (Even though I kinda regret paying full price for Star Allies.)
@bagajr Yes. I’m pretty sure I saw that somewhere anyway…
@WaveBoy I just commented how I’ll probably/maybe get it, but… you know, I really don’t need it, and this will save me some money, plus give me time for many other games, not to mention my hobbies and pursuits outside of gaming. 30fps really is too low for a modern game.
If somehow the Switch 2 can play these old games at 60fps (plus some minor effort from the dev)… that would be some glorious news indeed.
Yeah… I think I’ll go the route you mentioned and pick it up on sale someday.
As for LM3… huh, I hadn’t realized it was 30fps. I guess the locked camera angle, not super fast pace, gorgeous textures, and detailed animations sorta distracted me from it… although I’m still only an hour or two in, haven’t found the right time to play it. Yeah, that’s a bit sad, but… I’m not sure I care in that case, which is weird. Maybe it’s got a cinematic thing going on, like how movies are 24fps, but they feel right anyway. Maybe there’s some motion blur or other effect happening lol, I guess I sort of doubt that.
Anyway, yeah… keep trying Hal Labs, make the sequel better. 😅
Congrats for people who can actually play the demo...
