I wonder how many good news stories it takes to shut the trolls up. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong and lots of little trolls to keep banging the Switch is a rip off drum.
Mario Kart 8 is an evergreen title and will probs be hanging around in the charts for quite some time. I double dipped even though I played the hell out of the original because i love my Switch and I love MK. Don't get me wrong it would've been nice for Nintendo to give a bit of a discount to those of us that had it before but personally I was going to buy it either way so why would they. I have to say it was ace playing it on my daily commute. Almost missed my stop.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Genuine question for you. Obviously you've taken a relatively negative stand point towards the Switch and indeed Nintendo in general over the last few months. Now on most points I disagree with you but I am a Switch owner and have been totally sold on the concept from day one. I've been thoroughly satisfied with the console and the games since I picked it up (apart from bomberman I just can't get into that game). Now obviously it's good to have different viewpoints as that promotes discussion points rather than the pointless gushing with rose tinted glasses you see on some sites. What I'm wondering is have your opinions on both the Switch and how Nintendo is handling its business changed any in view of sales and critical success and indeed comments from actual owners over the first 7 weeks of this new system? I understand that it's early days and nobody knows what the next 12 - 18 months look like I'm just intrigued as to if your position has changed any or if you are sticking to your initial impressions and predictions?
@Crono1973 That's right buddy I do sell all my consoles once they are done. I'm a cutting edge kinda guy. Quite an important bit of information you should have gained before advising me on my gaming habits but thanks for the effort. Quick point though I don't want to just game on a tablet I also want to game on my tv. I'm also partial to gaming whilst out and about. Thankfully I own a Switch so I can do all those things with no restrictions. Cool right? And lastly I'm not buying the same game. I'm buying the deluxe version with enhancements that aren't on the Wii U. Yes I will have to wait a week but I can easily fill that time with Gorgeous Destruction Machine, Blaster Master Zero, Snipperclips, Bomberman and Fast RMX. I could play Zelda but 200 hours is probably enough.
@Crono1973 ah I see. Good point but with a few flaws. Firstly I traded in my Wii U because it is an old console which is no longer supported and secondly I'm excited for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which is an enhanced port of one of my favourite games of all time. Playing the "old" version on the crappy Wii U screen no longer does it for me now I have the outstanding Nintendo Switch. I like playing the best versions of games. I'm weird like that. Maybe one day you too will sample the delights of this fantastic machine and will have less time to spout negativity on a fan forum.
I had this digital on Wii U with all DLC and played it to death. And Nintendo think I'm going to pay another 50 notes for what is essentially an enhanced port? Damn right I am! Mario Kart on the go is a killer bonus. Games on the Switch are intrinsically better by virtue of them being on the Switch.
These numbers should be if ignored because ... (insert negative comment about Nintendo fans, Zelda being the only good game, it hasn't sold out in one particular country, dock scratching, joycon issues, third party support, brexit and trump).
I'm going to rebox my Switch and leave it in the shed till I get an apology from Nintendo itself for the past 7 years!
Just a side note it's getting harder and harder to be negative about the Switch.
If it takes little effort to do then they can port them all. I'm not going to buy anything I've had on the Wii U but there's plenty of people who didn't have those experiences. Bring them out on a budget range.
@Action51 Sorry my bad. So much much to learn. Nintendos quality control department have obviously taken a vacation since the switch launched. They just keep the conveyor belt of trash rolling out dud after dud. I'm going to trade my Switch in for something useful like an incinerator to put all the crappy Switch games into!
I played the original but unless this is 4K 60fps and supports both online and local multiplayer with at least 40 people it's a no go. Oh and I want a guarantee that it won't bend or scratch my switch. And if they think I'm paying more than £3 for this "old" Game they've got another thing coming. On an unrelated note I'm in training to become a troll, how am I doing? P.S. Nintendoomed!
The portability for me is so much more important than the slight graphical difference. Zelda I played 50/50 docked/portable and that experience was proof of concept for me. Don't get me wrong it's early days for the console but man it is such an advantage over everything else. Lego is a bit of a collectaphon so being able to pick up and play whenever wherever is a massive improvement. I said I wouldn't double dip but I'm waivering.
Ah the Wii U. The Switches older, poorer brother. He tries so hard but just can't cut it anymore. Time to take him out to the shed and blow his brains out with a shotgun.
Really surprised Master Blaster isn't up there. I am really enjoying it. Maybe I should reevaluate my gaming habits. Nah sod it I'll take my usual tact. Everyone else is wrong and I'm right.
@maceng Possibly as Bomberman hasn't had much love from me (profile says I've played it for a few minutes). I tell you what I'll think about it and get back to you.
I think the cost of the system is spot on. You get so much tech in the box I can't conceive how they could make it much cheaper. Plus I have vast amount of disposable income so I spend most days disposing of it as quickly as possible. I've got my eye on a £200 Dualit toaster. Imagine how good the toast will be coming out of that thing!
I've played zelda for over 120 hours both in and out of the dock and never noticed any excessive heat. Certainly not enough to warp it without external pressure.
The Wii U was a fantastic console but it just didn't capture the publics imagination. The sales weren't great, third parties abandoned it then eventually Nintendo abandoned it. It was mainly Nintendos fault but they tried something new and unfortunately it didn't work. The Switch has started amazingly and I hope the momentum keeps up. i only know this pachter fellow from the stuff I've read on here but I can see where he's coming from. As a gaming fan the Scorpio has zero excitement for me. When you are pushing just the boundaries of power in gaming you may as well invest in a gaming PC rig. Nintendo is doing something no other company is doing. Pushing the boundaries of how we play games. Sorry I'm rambling again.
After playing this game for an hour my hands are aching! As if gripping the controller tighter might just keep me on the bamboo before inevitably falling to oblivion.
These arguments have been going on for weeks now and it's getting tiresome. Those that own and have experienced what the Switch is either love it or are at the very least optimistic about the future. Those that don't bang on about how terrible it is. Get over yourselves and take it from someone who owns one, it's a great console with bags of potential. It needs more games Granted but still the future is bright.
And for all those people who say if it weren't for zelda there'd be nothing truly amazing to play on it, well it does have zelda so I don't get your argument. Nintendo knew zelda would be a launch title and we as consumers knew it would have zelda. The "what if..." is pointless.
Just been in Game UK to preorder MK8D (£5 off if you prepay in full) and as I was stood there the manager brought out a single Neon Switch. The bloke behind me nearly climbed over me to get it.
The game was in no way broken and it is such a fantastic game it's easy to forgive small issues. The haters use the frame rate issue as proof that it doesn't deserve the kudos. This has now been all but eliminated. This is a good/ smug day for all us Nintendo fans.
Game is overly expensive and you get a vastly different experience depending on which branch you go in. If anyone is in the Manchester UK region I recommend the one on the fort. Those guys know what they are talking about and although I'm not a fan of small talk from retailers those guys always manage to rope me into a debate about some section of the industry.
I got the game this morning and have been playing it for a while so I'd like to weigh in on the 720p/1080I 30fps/60fps issue. I can tell you conclusively that... I don't give a rats backside (damn you profanity rules) The game looks fantastic and plays really well. It's no AAA blockbuster but still a damn fine platformer with unique mechanics. Really fun title. We need more of this. Only suggestion I can give to improve it is a mode where your tail gets progressively longer and you've got to avoid running into yourself. No one try to steal my idea, I thought of it first.
If kind of accepted that initial physical games are going to be more expensive until the cost of manufacturing the carts inevitably come down but to me this solution to the problem is counterproductive. Huge mandatory downloads are one of the worst aspects of modern gaming. I'm saving my storage for indies. I wasn't going to get this anyway as I've previously completed it but still.
I think so far my favourite thing was the cutscene after taking back my first divine beast. It was so dramatic it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Really felt like the underdogs had started their fight back.
@Nintendoforlife No I totally agree with you. In my view I can see the Switch having a snowball effect. More units sold equal more switch out in the wild. More consoles in the wild the more people see it and appreciate it for what it is leading to more units sold. Nintendo have spaced out their releases which is the right thing to do but the biggest complaint I'm hearing is lack of games. Nintendo have the momentum and they just need to capitalise on it. I genuinely didn't think it would take of till Christmas but all I'm seeing is great interest in the little console that could. Exciting times.
If you've spent a significant amount of time with this console you know how good it actually is. It's not without its faults but overall it's a fantastic piece of tech. If Nintendo keeps pushing it and we get some good announcements at E3 I can see 10 million being more than achievable. With those kind of numbers the third parties can't ignore it.
