Developer Ankama has revealed that it is bringing Abraca: Imagic Games to the Nintendo Switch this May.
Billed as local multiplayer party game, the title places one player in the shoes of the hero - a prince or princess - and the other three players as the bad guys. The former must make their way through each level as quickly as possible, avoiding traps and defeating enemies before facing off against a massive boss, while it's the role of the latter group to prevent the hero from winning. Once the level is complete, another player takes on the role of hero and the cycle begins anew.
As you can see in the trailer above, the game is perfectly suited for the Switch; one player will be able to use the TV while the other three can connect via their Switches in portable mode.

My question is will it be playable with only one switch. I don't see why it wouldn't be.
Aw great. Haven't had a 2D Platformer game in a loooong time...................................
This is what the Switch was made for.
Hmm.. interesting! But not sure if I want this game yet.
Interesting that it doesn't show the Switch in the dock when playing on the tv.
Weird video, can't really see much of what's going on but looks like it could be a laugh. Worrying lack of couch co-op seems like a missed opportunity though.
Great games keep coming to the switch
So in order to play the game you need 4 Switches and 4 copies of the game? Can't see any issue with that at all...
Ah yes, more crap. Just what the Switch needs.
Oooh! I love Ankama!!! This game is perfect for the Switch!
I hope they consider bringing Wakfu to the Switch too. Wouldn't it be cool for the Switch to get its first MMO on the system and something that's colourful and fun to boot?
I've seen Video Games Awesome play this game. It looks really fun. The Steam version didn't need multiple screens since everyone were tied to one screen. I'm guessing having multiple Switches is optional. It just gives more options. Maybe it's used in a different game mode? At least that's what I hope.
Looks like chaotic fun. Just not for me.
Well, the user reviews on Steam are very good and all three Metacritic reviews for PC gave it 8/10, so I will keep an eye on this one.
@Yasume I love how you can tell it's crap from an extremely vague video of less than a minute of gameplay, that doesn't really tell you much of what the game will actually be.
Edit: My mistake, the game is already out on Steam apparently. But it seems relatively well received. So I still question your crap comments, especially give no justification.
@roadrunner343 Well, Yasume is one of the local "I hate everything, the Switch will fail, grumble grumble more indie trash." people. Don't take anything he/she says very seriously.
@starcatcher77 I know, but it still bugs the heck out of me =) I don't usually mind negativity. For example, while I disagree with him 90% of the time, I have no issues with @SLIGEACH_EIRE and I think he gets a lot of hate when he doesn't (always) deserve it. At least he typically has a reason for his negativity, even if I don't agree with it. But this kind of senseless "lulz trash game" response really bugs me.
Sounds fun, Switch is ideal for party games. But I'm worry you need more than one Switch to play. That would be unfortunate.
I'll probably get it IF you only need one Switch to play with four people.
@Yasume I know is hard to be patient but lets try to be. After all it wasn't till year 3 that my PS4 got constant use. Of course I sure as hell hope that is not the case with Switch but lets just wait a bit.
that looks really cool, unfortunately I don't game with enough people to make this a worthwhile purchase.
Hmm... looks pretty good. Like others, I find it odd that the trailer didn't show local multiplayer setup with multiple JoyCon. At first I was guessing that was just an oversight of the trailer but the PC version requires game controllers. Doesn't even have any keyboard support whatsoever. So... I don't know. I hope they do this right because this is a great concept for the Switch.
Oh, and ~80 on Metacritic so far and really ONLY for multiplay. No bots apparently. I love that art style actually. Fun and sharp and pretty readable.
I hate to be negative, but I'm a bit tired of seeing this same art style (bright colors, flat shapes, and SDF/Big Chap characters) for most of the indie games. I hope it does well, but I'd sure love to see more high-end pixel art or lush, realistic or colorful artwork, like Trine's. Thankfully, the Switch will probably have an extremely robust library of indie titles, as the WIi-U and 3DS do.
@AirElephant I actually found the art style pretty different from most. Using what feels like 3D models and sort of cel-shaded but detailed look. The animation is particularly smooth and fun. Have you looked at the trailers for the wider release? They are better quality because they don't make the screen size so small or compress so much.
@UK-Nintendo Love your deadpan sarcasm.
@Yasume I bet you have not even played it and you call it a crap.
I can get in to this!
This is the type of games I want on the Switch. Then, I can sit my son with his friends (even if I have to buy Switches for everyone), instead of them playing against each other in Call of Duty or Destiny.
I'm all for the idea and am glad that this dev is making use of the Switch local wireless. Digging the art style, offhand it looks fun, but I'd have to see more gameplay footage.
A big factor would be in pricing, especially if it requires 4 Switches with 4 copies of the game to play. That would severely limit the audience, it's still a cool idea, but similar to LoZ 4 Swords, some ppl may skip altogether if they never plan to have that kind of setup available.
If the game is cheap that could help, or if you can do single-cart multiplayer that'd help a lot (that is, only 1 person needs the game, others can download temp data on their Switches to play). Another option is being able to play all on 1 Switch, but having the option to use 1-4 Switch systems, with the more Switches involved just meaning more Views or separate cameras/screens for the action. That'd be a pretty cool implementation.
Fingers crossed that they are able to make it work, cause I'd love to be able to try it, though currently I'm the only one with a Switch in my core gaming group (I could see 1 or 2 others picking up the system sometime, but yeah).
Oh dear. Turns out this was nothing more than an April Fools Day joke. And you fell for it hook, like and sinker!
