Re: Nintendo Will Replace Your Dead Switch Battery, At A Cost

BigBadJohn

I once tried to replace one of the side buttons on my iPhone. Bought all the tools off eBay and followed a you tube video step by step. Result... One completely ruined iPhone and bruised knuckles when I punched the wall. If the battery does fail in my switch I think I'll stick with Nintendos official replacement service thank you.

Re: Nintendo Will Replace Your Dead Switch Battery, At A Cost

BigBadJohn

I've come late to this latest "Switch is a scam" argument, what have I missed?

The problem here is Nintendo confirmed it was a non replaceable battery (which is pretty much industry standard in these type of devices) and people who have already said they won't be buying a Switch kicked off. Why? Most CE these days have a non replaceable battery, it's 2017 people.

Nintendo reads this negativety and says "hey, don't worry peeps. We have a battery replacement service". Same people kick off again saying it's a scam. How is it a scam? You don't even know how much it costs? Why are we even talking about this, it isn't even out yet!

Re: Feature: Reflecting on Time Spent With the Nintendo Switch

BigBadJohn

@Capt_N why would you buy the games and not the system? Surely if your not getting a switch for 6 months you might as well wait on the games too as they would almost certainly be cheaper by then.

I could wait on the Switch but then again I'd miss out on all that play time. Plus I'd have to listen to everyone on here banging on about how good it is and by then i wouldn't be able to get one for love nor money.

Re: Feature: Reflecting on Time Spent With the Nintendo Switch

I am proper excited for this launch. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy (I'm 38 and have only ever played two Zelda games and not a massive Mario fan) but the flexibility this console provides lets me choose how and when I play without compromising the quality of the games I play. Come on march 3rd.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'm surprised, I got the impression from your previous comments you'd be getting one Day One.

Re: Talking Point: Is the Nintendo Switch a Handheld or Console? Does it Matter?

BigBadJohn

I think the flexibility of this system is what excites me most. I can enjoy my games on the main tv in the living room or if the wife wants to watch some dull costume drama I can remove it from its dock and play on the sofa. I can take it off into another room and play table top and even get my son involved in a quick blast of Mario kart. Take it with me on holidays or business trips. I'll probably get a second dock to put into the kids room so they can take it and play on their tv. Due to its flexibility classifying as a home console or portable console seems reductive. It's a games console that allows you to play your way.

Re: Talking Point: Let's Explore What Could Be Done with HD Rumble on the Nintendo Switch

BigBadJohn

A lot of people seem to be dismissing some of the switch's features as gimmicks, something that has dogged Nintendo for years. However these "innovations" are the things that make Nintendo the exciting company that it is. HD rumble won't be used by all developers but when it is used it could add an extra layer to the gaming experience. I remember playing a game (maybe "No More Heroes"?) that used the speaker in the Wii remote to act as a telephone. That moment when the phone/wiimote rang and I held it up to my ear to hear a tinny voice giving me instructions still sticks in my head as a fantastic gaming moment. HD rumble could be used to provide small but amazing nuances to the games we play.

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Video Streaming Services At Launch, But They're Being Considered

BigBadJohn

@jimi I've never experienced lag using this method before but you seem to know better than me. I don't know I suppose I've always been a glass half full type of guy. Maybe I should follow your example and see the doom and gloom in every situation. Maybe the console that isn't even out yet won't but as good as I thought. Maybe I'm stupid for actually looking forward to getting my hands on this new piece of tech. Isn't everything rubbish nowadays.

Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

BigBadJohn

I'm bored of this "complain about every aspect of the Nintendo Switch" game, I think instead I'll just buy the system and enjoy all the games. People seem to think they can dictate to companies how much they charge for their product but that's is not how it works. They showcase their wares and then its up to the consumer whether they buy or not. Don't get me wrong if everyone boycotts the switch the prices probably will drop but then again it might just force Nintendo out of the console market and then we will be left with less choice, less innovation and we will be forced to buy inferior games with no quality control. Your call guys. How about we support the one company who is genuinely trying to go down a different path?

Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

As an early adopter I have always paid more for my tech and then kick myself a few months later when prices inevitably drop and deals get better. I preordered my switch from Game UK back in November and along with the pro controller, Zelda, bomberman, a case and a screen protector I'm looking at spending just over £500. This is obviously quite steep but you know what I'm really excited to be one of the first to get my hands on one and having that extra buzz makes it totally worth it. I think throughout the year this machine will build momentum and by Christmas (I refuse to use the vague holiday season term) it will be a must have system and be a much more competitive price. I'm paying the premium for getting it first and I'm okay with that.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Switch Plan is Starting to Take Shape

BigBadJohn

@Yorumi You seem to know a lot about p2p connections. If you could just tell me all about it once again that would be great. Granted I know you have made the same speech countless times on pretty much all other articles about the switch I do find your anger and negativity quite refreshing. Maybe you have some sort of pamphlet you could send me that I can enjoy when not on the internet. Don't get me wrong I know some people are probably quite bored with your condescending tone and your campaign to spread negativity about something that some people are really looking forward to but not me. Previously I believed a company could charge whatever they liked for something they made and then I could choose to buy or not but actually your right, Nintendo are scamming us by introducing the same model other companies have used for years. I normally reserve judgement for when I know the full facts like price and stuff but you have turned my head. Come on Nintendo, get your act together!

Re: By The Way, The Joy-Con Grip Bundled With Nintendo Switch Won't Charge Your Joy-Cons

BigBadJohn

The switch is terrible value for money. The premium one should come as standard! And have 2TB of storage built in. And free online play. And what's this I hear about having to pay for games as well, I don't pay for games on my iPhone! All the available games should be bundled in. And while we are at it I think a more reasonable price for all this would be around £50 or possibly even free to those who made the mistake of buying a Wii U.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

BigBadJohn

@marko What are you basing your guarantee on? So far they have never charged for online gaming. Could be £1 a year, could be £20 a month. Why don't we adopt a wait and see approach? Or we could just continue shaking our fists at the sky because being angry is much more fun.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

BigBadJohn

This sucks big time. I mean I know I don't have any details like price or functionality or actually any real information but I've made my mind up and I'm going to stick to it. Stupid Nintendo why can't you be more like Microsoft and Sony? Granted they also charge for their online service but at least you know what you're getting, endless carbon copy slightly updated versions of the same games each year.
