Re: Review: Sifu - Sloclap's Kung-Fu Epic Revives Itself On Switch

BeautyandtheBeer

I thought the 'easier' mode was too easy to be honest, was only around age 32 on my initial play after finishing. That when you die you basically come back straight away is also makes it far more forgiving.

Seems there's no in-between, it's Easy or Challenge mode in effect.

Phenomenal game though, my GOTY at the moment and glad it generally got ported well to Switch.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Chloe In Fire Emblem Engage

BeautyandtheBeer

@Polvasti Okay so you want a character in a fantasy setting to only have realistic design specific to that type of character. That's fine, odd but fine.

It still does not make her design sexist though. Accentuating aspects of her look is not sexist. Just because it does not gel with the modern 'approved' thought of what a type of character 'should' be doesn't make it sexist.

Also 'impossible hourglass figure'? Really? That's impossible? Women come in all shapes and sizes you know, just like men. Go outside and you might realise that.

I think we'd better end this conversation as you're not gonna change your reasoning, I'm not either. We are just way too far apart in what we like in our fantasy media.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Chloe In Fire Emblem Engage

BeautyandtheBeer

@Polvasti Okay if you think that design is objectification of women then we are simply not going to agree anytime soon as we are way too far apart.

It's sexy, that's it. Sexy and sexist are VERY different. Nothing in her design is sexist. She's not even wearing very little, I can see less clothed women on any Saturday night in town and pretty sure they're not objectifying themselves.

If you don't like attractive (female) characters in a fantasy setting because you want realism that is fine, you do you. Just don't label it as something it clearly isn't.

You don't have any issue with the handsome, good looking male characters I assume? They can treated like lust objects for female fans also.

Re: Nintendo Introduces Chloe In Fire Emblem Engage

BeautyandtheBeer

@Polvasti Are we, are we looking at the same character here? Or has 'embarrassingly sexist' something to add to the long, long list of terms which have lost all meaning through over and misuse?

Believe it or not people do like characters like this (see these comments) which is why they continue to design them.

Re: Review: Bright Memory: Infinite - A Chaotic, Crysis-Style FPS, But Messy And Very Short

BeautyandtheBeer

The price versus length factor has always baffled me as its simply not a factor in other mediums.

If its a fun 2 hours then where is the issue exactly? People pay way more to watch a film at the cinema or on a nice meal but a 2 hour fun, replayable experience is crossing the line?

Also tuned out of this review after the first paragraph since I loathe 'guilty pleasure' thinking.

Re: Smurfs Kart Races Onto Switch This Coming Winter

BeautyandtheBeer

Gotta chip in with the appreciation for Mission ViLeaf, was a lot of fun and it's focus more on puzzle solving. Didn't run great on PS5 though.

I am excited for this, of late Microids has had a briliiant track record with licensed games. The aforementioned Smurfs, Asterix, the Agatha Christie games along with original games like the new Syberia.

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Locks In October Release For Switch

BeautyandtheBeer

Still don't understand the incredibly negative reception to cloud streaming option on here. You'd rather have no game at all depriving people of a chance to play than this? Rather selfish no?

I'm not into cloud streaming (am buying this on PS5) but this game had zero chance of a native port, zero. It would not be possible.

This is the reality of Nintendo having effectively 17 year old hardware at this point.

Re: Talking Point: In An Age Of Endless Delays, Nintendo's First-Party Flow Is Extraordinary

BeautyandtheBeer

Impressive first party flow in isolation sure. You can't really compare to Xbox or Playstation divisions though since they are operating on much more powerful and complex hardware causing longer dev cycles. It's apples to oranges.

Since Nintendo is operating on effectively 16 year old tech that puts them at an advantage.

They also don't have any live service games taking up dev time such as Xbox does with Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon, Sea of Thieves, Grounded and MSFS.

Its also most likely that they do have delays (or even cancellations) but since they generally unveil games so close to release it is unlikely to occur to be known to most outside the studios. That is the smart way to do it even though they mess up sometimes (Bayonetta 3, MP4).

Re: Video: 7 Nintendo Switch Games Exclusive To Japan That We Really Want Localised

BeautyandtheBeer

@DK-Fan I think they just milked that series dry. Too many games, anime, manga, merch etc in too short a period burnt people out. Not surprising considering it was (and remains) their only mega hit. Bit like Activision with Guitar Hero back in the day.

Yokai Watch was always a bit too Japanese to be anything above a cult fave in the west but fair play they did try but it never got anywhere. I mean I bought the first 2 games over here brand new for £4.00 each, that is a sign of a flop.

Re: Review: Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars - Satisfying Fan Service That's A Bit Bare

BeautyandtheBeer

So glad to have another open minded review of these sorts of titles on NL instead of the usual tripe which dismisses and is offended by the very nature of them. Not quite there with the consistency yet but it's good progress.

As for the review itself it's pretty much my thoughts though as a fan of both series would give it a higher score.

Combat is deceptively simply, on PS4 some of the later levels and Yomi Training can be real tough so you have to balance your different attacks, dodges and styles which boost effects.

I hope this is the start of a push to get more SK games on Switch. Do what Koei did with Atelier and like with the Super Robot Wars series, port the older catalogue, build up the fan base to make newer entries successful.

While both series are on Playstation they will continue to suffer from their American ordered censorship which has already killed one SK game (so long 7even) which was a disgusting move by Playstation since so much money and development had been poured into it.

Re: Review: Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: Burst Forth!! Choro-gon Breath - A Middling Shmup Affair

BeautyandtheBeer

@Chocobo_Shepherd So considering this is a game with actual dragon girls in a schmup style you find issue with realism only when it comes to a female character. Never seen that before...

@Vyacheslav333 They're probably referring the abundance of 3d arena fighters for anime game (Naruto, OP, Demon Slayer, MHA etc.) which while enjoyable do get fairly bland fairly quickly.

Re: Nintendo First-Party Titles Miss Out On EDGE Magazine's GOTY 2021 List

BeautyandtheBeer

No opinion on Deathloop, will give it a go on Game Pass next year when it releases that way but the reaction I've seen to it outside traditional games media has been decidedly mixed.

At least Psychonauts 2 is up there, phenomenal game in every single aspect which is so rare to see and one of the few I'd actually consider perfect. Amazed at how robbed it was at TGA.

Re: Random: Ace Attorney Says OBJECTION! To Drugs In Japanese Anti-Marijuana Campaign

BeautyandtheBeer

@Astral-Grain To me high risk addiction is something which can lead to severe health problems, be they mental or physical or monetary pit such as increasing debt. Games, to this point, do not have anything like that in any real capacity.

I am not actually for alcohol either, to me it is something dangerous which should be looked at but I also know the real danger of alcohol is the lack of control with people who consume it which is what prohibition in the US was about IIRC (not big on NA history).

It would make sense for a country to ban both rather than one or the other but alcohol is too much of a money maker for it to ever seriously be considered outside Islamic countries.

Re: Random: Ace Attorney Says OBJECTION! To Drugs In Japanese Anti-Marijuana Campaign

BeautyandtheBeer

@Astral-Grain Totally against banning games, or any forms of expression. There can be video game addiction yes but it isn't a high risk thing like an addiction to say gambling, drugs or alcohol.

Isn't that banning just games with online / social elements and for under 18s? Still wrong as limiting a childs playtime of a game(s) should be a parents responsibility not the states.

It is in line with a dictatorship such as China though.

Re: PSA: Watch Out! Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Leaks Are All Over The Internet

BeautyandtheBeer

@thiz The Battle Frontier was a brilliant part of the game (and Emerald prior) which was a real challenge and gave people a look at the deeper system around the series.

So of course The Pokemon Company won't bring it back. They are now allergic to anything remotely challenging. They love options as long as they are easy, easy, easy. Even the postgame 'harder' challenges are now pitifully easy.

I'm surprised it made it past 1 game to be honest given their knack for abandoning features 1 game on.

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

BeautyandtheBeer

The Nights thing always confused me, I have the HD remaster on 360 but that it never made it to Wii U or Switch is bizarre considering that Nintendo platforms are much more suited to something like that.

I am happy with Journey of Dreams though, will forever love that game and it introduced me to Nights.

Re: Feature: Where Does Competitive Pokémon Go From Here?

BeautyandtheBeer

@Ludovsky I personally don't think having a full national dex has any bearing on ranked play or not. The more choice the better, there's only a select few that need balancing. I do agree at SwSh being catered to making competitive much more accessible. Easiest teams I could create including trade only evos like Conkeldurr I could get how I wanted.

@anzzjam I can kinda understand the appeal of Smogon rules but everything I've seen from that community is just so full of toxicity with what they ban and the like. It ain't for me.

Re: Feature: Where Does Competitive Pokémon Go From Here?

BeautyandtheBeer

No ranked battles in BDSP? Well that sucks. Can't see SwSh going for another 2 years.

You can use your favourite if you do your research on them and team chemistry.

Competitive can be disheartening when you put time into getting a team right legitimately then you see proven hackers like WolfGlick celebrated. Hacking is so rampant but GF simply does not care. It encourages it by not punishing hackers. So bizarre.

Re: Random: Uh-Oh, Nintendo's Switch Online 'Expansion Pack - Overview Trailer' Is Generating A Lot Of Dislikes

BeautyandtheBeer

@PhhhCough Because the games are much older, a few barely touched N64 roms compared to relatively recent brand new games on XL (or PSPlus) does not compare favourably.

Oh and Nintendos general online infrastructure is still about 20 years behind Xbox Live because it misses basic functions like messaging and voice chat among other key points.

When you price something near a competitors you better make sure yours looks good value. This highlights Nintendos laziness in the online space. Nothing in regards to online has actually improved since Nintendo started charging for it. Any other company would be crucified for such lack of improvement.
