@kenyowa You wouldn't pay 40 dollars for a VN outside bigger names? Given the length of quite a few of them (20+ hours) at that price range I'd personally say that's really good value even at 1 playthrough.
Being short on money I can certainly understand though.
Sounds different from what I expected (thought more traditional VN) but that ain't a bad thing. I'm still down for more yuri goodness and there is a physical version at Play-Asia which I am nabbing.
For those wanting a traditional yuri VN then Yumeutsutsu comes out a bit later this year.
@Bizzyb It's the difference in sales which is most surprising, the first game sold better on Switch as well but the numbers were closer initially before Switchs long tail end for games kicked in.
That art is beyond dreadful, clearly the last thing the developers thought of. It's ugly, for a dating sim that is a big dent to it for me.
As @Scapetti commented, looks like a flash game.
Don't care for 'inclusivity' when it's the main focus as is here since it makes it look like you're masking something poor. If this didn't have that angle and was purely say straight relationships this would be panned.
Decent interview though much as I am growing to love WayForward this game just doesn't quite appeal to me since I'm not a fan of joycon play and co-op. Hope it does well though as you can tell they put a lot of thought and care into it which is exactly what you want.
@SKTTR Modern fighters missing a lot of characters seems to be THE way these days sadly. DoA, MK, SF and many more leave out mainstays or fan favourites for fighter passes or whatever they are. Presumably because development costs are so high and fighters are relatively niche they have to do it unless they have real mass appeal (a la Smash).
It could be worse though, you could be a Virtua Fighter fan waiting for a new installment!
Would love to see these games on Switch (well LiS S1 and BtS anyway) so more people can experience these wonderful stories. Don't see why they wouldn't do it to be honest.
One of the few games with 'meaningful' decisions that actually felt it and some choices I spent a long time thinking about and I felt genuine regret at some points. Can't say that about most games that do something similar to be honest which is testament to how good this is at hooking you.
They kind of lose impact on second play through though understandably but that's fine, doesn't need that.
Not surprised, Smogon is a very toxic community that really, REALLY does not like anything upsetting their status quo. Their reason breaks apart too easily into 'we can't handle it, ban it, ban it!'. Instead of adapting to anything new they just ban it.
Dynamaxing is something you have to use tactically and skillfully, can be countered if you know what you're doing (Smogon community kinda doesn't) and adds to the game as you can turn it around with the right Dynamax or lose it with a premature move. Much more fair than Mega's and more interesting than Z moves.
If you think it's unfair or cannot handle then you really shouldn't be playing competitive Pokemon. Or just go into Smogons echo chamber and feel safe.
@RR529 7EVEN hasn't been scrapped to my knowledge, they have just had to basically rework the entire game to fit Sony's censorship policies. To the point I sadly will no longer be able to buy it and finish the story because of it.
I, and many others, assume they have some kind of exclusive contract for the game with Sony and so simply can't pull out or switch to another platform which is a crying shame.
They had to rework another game (to a lesser degree) but haven't named what it was but most people think it is Kandagawa Jet Girls which yeah I can see. Looks too fun and free for the ones enforcing these draconian measure.
@NicolausCamp Censorship is trivial? Huh... tell me that when they censor large portions of your favourite game, book, film, series etc because it 'offends' someone else. I'm sure you won't have a problem with that though.
Anyway to me they are only censoring out of cheapness. Porting a game that severely under performed while putting back in the content (a lot of content at that) that was censored would cost quite a bit and they probably don't think it's worth the effort so 'treat' everyone to western (American) approved (by a vocal minority who never bought the game anyway) version. Sad but unsurprising.
@Joker13z Yeah that's true, I think the time of no politics in games discussion is mostly gone outside select circles (or echo chambers I suppose). The good ol days weren't even that long ago but feels so much longer.
At least you get somewhat of a different political news in the US, for the past 3 years we in the UK have had nowt but nonstop coverage of our incompetent parliaments attempt to handle Brexit. I'd take literally anything else right now.
@Damo didn't quite say that though, 99% of people would find this off-putting that I bloody well know, that same percentage would just ignore it after that though. Don't make em all nutters but there are nutters in that percentage who will go overboard, try to enforce their view, shame others for liking it etc.. That is what we're looking at here, otherwise there would be no review.
Also pretty sure you can shoot some sweet loli as well.
@HobbitGamer Okay? It's a game I like, want to see if the review has any merit (nope). Defend against undue hate. Bit different than going to something that deliberately offends me.
@Joker13z Maybe I've been trained (not the right word is it) to see something that ain't quite there or the meaning has been warped by both sides to be in everything. They say politics is in everything though.
Pretty sure the far right would hate this as well, probably falsely call it paedo bait or something similar.
@nessisonett Aye I have heard of sex-positive feminism, thing is though that is almost never portrayed / given a voice in the media, it appears by far to be the minority of feminism. I ain't tarring everyone with the same brush, I have that had done to me over the years for a lot of things, ain't trying to do the same.
@nessisonett 'it's not right for certain people to call the reviewer names for his own opinion given that's all a review is, an opinion.'
Forgive me but I've seen no one directing abuse at him but merely calling him out for their demeaning tone, hate filled, morally righteous review. They open up for critique (or mockery as is often the case here) when they post a review like this on an open response website. After all, that is what the readers opinions are, just an opinion right?
@Joker13z I don't wanna bring politics into it but kinda have to when reviews like this exist. They are driven by that and it is clear for most to see. I could feel it from the start.
I wish every game site could be free of politics but that ain't gonna happen.
@Damo It has everything to do with feminism sadly as it has infected the modern media landscape and 'reviewers' to the point if oozes out even without deliberately going into it. The tone of this review is clear in that.
The game may not be perfect but 3? That is nearly a broken game with no redeeming qualities. This has plenty of redeeming qualities for it's target audience and the gameplay is fun. The target audience is clearly the problem from this review though. How DARE they exist right?
On second thoughts I know why NintendoLife continually hate review on fan service games: the clicks. Get as much traffic as possible by just regurgitating the feminist / SJW rhetoric and hammer home just how above the dirty, filthy, 'women hating' people who enjoy these games are. So easy to do, people like me are drawn in (gotta defend it against mindless hate).
Most other games journalists, sorry, activist (keep forgetting they have little integrity) sites like Eurogamer, IGN, Gamespot etc. have gone past that phase and now just ignore them and let bygones be bygones unless a bit hitter (DoA) comes along and have to bash it because, you know, it appeals to men.
Was expecting this and it is gloriously embarrassing from NintendoLife ONCE AGAIN because it does not fit their toxic feminist driven agenda. The amount of sheer contempt and looking down on people who dare not follow the mindless herd, and like these games is incredible. Would it not be better for NintendoLife to ignore these games if they have NO ONE who even has a modicum of interest? Genuine question? You wouldn't get someone who cares little for FPS, driving sims to continually review them would you?
@nessisonett These games exist because fans love them, they get panned because western reviewers never liked them, never will, they think they are abhorrent and look down (as is the case here) on anyone who likes them, they think they're disgusting and are . You want an honest take on this you have to follow more niche websites (or Destructoid which is open minded) or YouTubers. They have for years tried to drive it into anyone that sexual aspects bad (unless appealing to the alphabet people) and must be eradicated.
And yes the MeToo movement has on the whole become a toxic mess because it went from genuine stories of abuse of power to a full on witch hunt where the mere allegation despite any proof whatsoever will destroy a mans career as they are hounded by far left media outlets.
@Spudtendo So fan service is a big part of the appeal? Okay, I have very rarely seen (or played) a game with a heavy fan service appeal have bad game play (and I play 99% of em). Whether it is mediocre is surely subjective as is every other game, even praised, critical ones (I think MK's fighting is clunky mess for e.g.). As a combined package many enjoy them a lot despite minor flaws. Don't seperate the two elements as the combining of the two is crucial as to why there is appeal.
If I want to look at fictional drawings of sexy anime girls (or guys or furries) what the hell is it to you? That has no relevance to you, it ain't affecting you in the slightest. If you don't want to get offended or whatever you call it, don't click on, back away, ignore it, it is SO easy to do but you lot choose not to for reasons beyond most. Don't tell me what I should and should not do based on your own moral values.
I also like how you bring respect for women into this as if it has ANY relevance to these types of games. You wouldn't bring in your respect of human life when discussing a FPS where you gun down people so why now? Oh wait, we all know why.
Looking forward to the inevitable review where NL rags on it because 'fan service is bad and not in keeping with our SJW standards' while barely mentioning gameplay and putting down anyone who does enjoy these games. All the games activists on this site have done it for basically every game with fan service in aimed at guys. Just don't review it or get someone who does like fan service and can be critical. It ain't hard.
@nessisonett It's funny, I have not once seen a 'group' that is anything but minuscule you mention get angered over a female lead (had those in gaming since god knows how long), a gay character (whatever) or mentioning the 'far-right' which is now a catch-all term for right wing or centrist.
You're honestly just regurgitating the same old tired spiel that sites want you to think happens and is widespread outside an extreme minority they magnify tenfold. Same with movies, comics, TV etc.
On the opposite side though we see gaming activist sites like Eurogamer, Polygon, Kotaku or ReeeeesteEra complain when they don't go far enough in pandering to themselves only or daring to appeal to someone who isn't them (straight men), this site does it as well with fan service games.
You're free to prove me wrong though. Think you might struggle mind.
Well this reviewer has never seen an episode of SAO that is for certain. The 'misogyny' rant is funny because it is not only misleading it has no real relevance to the review than for the reviewer to virtue signal. I don't expect any better from games activists though.
The review does not make it clear if this new misogynistic character is good, bad or if the game paints them in a good or bad light which is important. Deliberately framing it without that makes the agenda become clear.
Misogyny does exist in the series in a negative way (it's for villains who are, well, villains) and it works well there. I mean that just makes you hate them right? Hating villains is good right? Outside villainous means it treats all female characters with respect (Asuna, Sinon, Suguha, Alice, Yuuki, Administrator etc.).
Since the word (along with racism, sexism) has lost all meaning due to it's overuse on anything not pandering to certain far-left leaning groups I just groan whenever it comes up in a review like this as it just further adds to the meaning fading away.
@tobibra Correct, it was a co-production with PQube, a big deal for them with it being their first. I think it has much more of a western appeal than usual because of this without skimping out on the reason why people love VNs.
@Tirza Yeah I got that feeling as well, reading some parts made me cringe. Clearly a reviewer who does not like these types of games. Seen a few other reviews as well as discussion on social media and most seem to like it though do have some complaints.
This review seems to be an outlier from what I've seen.
@Samwise7 'I also notice there aren't any battling male underwear.'
If you think there is money in it why not make one yourself? Developers don't have to make something to cater for everyone you know, they cater to an audience who they think they'll make money from and that is perfectly fine.

Re: Review: My Hero One's Justice 2 - Fans Will Lap It Up, But Fighting Game Aficionados Should Look Elsewhere
More or less what I expected. It does look like it address my 2 main issues with the first game being content and characters playable.
No Midnight playable though as far as I know. I mean sure we get Nejire and Camie but I though she was a shoe in.
Oh well, it'll be a nice tonic after the incredibly underwhelming recent arc in the anime.
