Re: Microsoft Details Xbox E3 Schedule, Lists Nintendo Direct As A Place You "Need To Be"

@NintendoByNature

Oh man, I would love to have the Metroid Prime Trilogy with gyro controls! It's actually near the top of my Most Wanted Ports list (believe it or not, Mario Sunshine is number 1)!

You reminded me of something: Link's Awakening! Only in a year like this, that is so jam-packed with quality releases, could I forget a remake of my favorite Game Boy game! I'm going to be so stinkin' broke by January 2020!

Astral Chain just looks so good, and I hope that it ends up being as good as I think it will be!

Speculation is fun, but where it stops being fun is when people get angry that their unrealistic expectation didn't come to fruition and then they start bashing Nintendo for not being a portable Xbox One. I'm still absolutely amazed that we have Cuphead!

Oh, I absolutely agree with you! It's crazy how the stock/interest in NES games has plummeted over the years! Do you remember how stoked people were about the possibility of downloading NES games when Wii first dropped? Maybe it's the obnoxious dripfeed that they started employing after WiiWare started, or it could be that they've rereleased the games so many times that the mystery/allure is gone and we're left with games that I still greatly enjoy because I grew up with them, but many of them are antiquated. Also, it doesn't help that the list of games released has been pretty ho-hum. The ACA/Johnny Turbo line provide more excitement.

@frabbit

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see it, but.....what would be the point? I think that experiences like Tetris 99 are what Nintendo is shooting for. I believe that a big reason why Nintendo hasn't unveiled a comprehensive Virtual Console, and why they're keeping the NES Online service so bare-bones, is because they are experiencing something that eluded them during the Wii-Wii U: genuine third-party success on the digital front. It's only my theory, but I think that if Nintendo started opening up their floodgates of classic content, it would cannibalize indie sales. Realistically, how many people would plunk down the money for Hollow Knight (god, what a great game) when they can play Super Metroid for free? I like to think that there are reasons behind these decisions of theirs. I think that the reason why we're seeing NES games on the online service is because, at this point in time, they have reached a point where Nintendo can no longer repackage/resell them like they had in the past. SNES games still have value, and I think that value will increase if Nintendo plays their cards right, pulls a Disney, and keeps them in the vault for a few years. Like I said, it's all just a theory.

I would love to see it, but.....would it be the right time to do so?

Re: Microsoft Details Xbox E3 Schedule, Lists Nintendo Direct As A Place You "Need To Be"

BanjoPickles

@rhyeee3216

Exactly! We won't get GTA V, Red Dead 1, Fallout 3/4/New Vegas, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, The Sims, any of the big EA Sports stuff (good!), etc. Hell, if Switch can't even run Saint's Row The Third properly, it's probably best that we forget about GTA V ever happening.

The third party reveals will probably be along the lines of Spyro (who doesn't see this game coming from a mile away?), or a vanilla port of a last gen release.

I feel like I'm putting down the Switch, but I'm not. I've loved the support that it has received so far, and I typically swipe up them up when they're of interest. I own Civilization VI, Dark Souls, both South Parks, LA Noire, Crash, Sonic Mania, Diablo III, Skyrim, etc. I just know that expectations lead to nothing.

Re: Microsoft Details Xbox E3 Schedule, Lists Nintendo Direct As A Place You "Need To Be"

BanjoPickles

Another thing to think about is this:

The Direct is going to be forty minutes long. We still haven't seen anything pertaining to Animal Crossing or Luigi's Mansion, aside from a couple of logos. If they're shown, that will take time, as will any new information pertaining to Astral Chain, a reminder about Deux Ex Machina, a blurb about Mario Maker 2, something pertaining to the online service, indie releases, Smash Bros. DLC. If Halo were to be announced, they wouldn't announce it in passing. They would make it a big part of their presentation. The entire Direct will probably look a little something like this:

-Smash Bros. DLC
-Bayonetta 3 info
-Astral Chain
-Animal Crossing
-a new trailer for Fire Emblem
-a small amount of time dedicated to Pokémon
-A trailer for Luigi's Mansion, complete with a release date
-a launch trailer for Mario Maker 2, complete with an outline of free DLC content
-a few indie announcements
-A surprise third party announcement or two
-A surprise 2020 reveal from Nintendo. Maybe a Mario Odyssey 2 reveal?

Trust me when I say that half of you, in twenty-eight hours, will be posting about how this Direct was a crushing disappointment because the majority of what will be shown is of stuff that has already been announced.

I'm excited, to be honest, but I also have my expectations in check. They're not going to get any more big Xbox games, SNES games aren't coming to the online service, N64 Classic won't be announced, and all of the rumors that we read about on Nintendo Life will remain rumors.

Oh, and The Sims 4 isn't going to happen. Sorry, Anti, but you're asking for real support from a company that is only willing to give Switch bare bones legacy editions of ONE game and very little else.

Sorry to be so negative, but being realistic means that I can enjoy the Direct.

Re: Microsoft Details Xbox E3 Schedule, Lists Nintendo Direct As A Place You "Need To Be"

BanjoPickles

I think that some of you are developing laughably unrealistic expectations. The release of Cuphead doesn’t mean that Microsoft is going to magically open their vaults to Nintendo! Halo is not going to happen, nor is Rare Replay. That’s just ridiculous!

Also, one has to wonder what would be in it for Microsoft? Surely, MS isn’t going to turn their biggest franchises over for nothing? Would any one of you honestly be willing to allow Mario, Zelda, or Metroid to go multi platform? If the answer is no....why not? You’re asking for the very thing that you yourself would never want to see happen.

Go into tomorrow with realistic expectations, otherwise you’re going to be disappointed. Mark my words, Halo isn’t happening, nor is Gears of War, and forget about Rare Replay. Cuphead and Minecraft are probably going to be it, and we’re lucky we got those!

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

BanjoPickles

@MegaVel91

You'll notice, long before you decided to be a jerk about it, that I humbly acknowledged that I mixed up the SMT series with the mainline. I falsely believed that the series' origins began with the SF, and when I was corrected I looked it up and found out that I was wrong.

I stand by my original statement: Atlus isn't doing this to punish Nintendo fans. They have a board of directors, and executives within the company who most likely know more about the reasons why than we do, and those reasons are probably due to more than loyalty that would have an adverse effect on their bottom line.

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

BanjoPickles

@Arehexes

Honestly, it makes me dislike half-arsed loyalists. If you're going to commit to only one company, do it the right way and stop whining about the games from other consoles that you didn't get!

And you're absolutely right! Atlus has done an incredible job supporting Nintendo! Since the beginning of 2000, Atlus has released fifty-five games on Nintendo consoles/handhelds. Granted, the number is higher on Sony's hardware (88 releases), but.....poor Microsoft!

Atlus was supporting Wii U, long after nearly every other major player had jumped ship!

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

BanjoPickles

@Arehexes

And every halfway decent console since the dawn of the hobby itself has had amazing EXCLUSIVES! Colecovision had the first great port of Donkey Kong, NES had everything except games like Phantasy Star, SNES had Final Fantasy and the Mega Drive had Shining Force. Hell, even Sega CD had Lunar and Vay! No audience is entitled to anything but first party content! Anything else is either a bonus or a deciding factor.

I bought a PS4, knowing full well that it would never receive Mario, or Zelda, or the then-recently announced Rare Replay, just as I bought the Switch knowing that most of the more graphically/online intensive games either wouldn't properly translate or simply couldn't be done justice. It's for that reason that I'm never disappointed by a console's library. I know what I'm getting, and everything else is a total bonus!

So, Switch may not be getting Persona 5......but it IS getting Dragon Quest 11, and it just received a plethora of Final Fantasy games, and Octopath, and so forth. There are plenty of options for jrpg fans on Switch, and there are plenty of Switch games that will never see the light of day on PS4/XBONE. That's how it's always been.

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

BanjoPickles

@SBandy

Thank you! We're not owed the same library that the PS4/XBONE have (and Persona 5 isn't coming to XBONE either). Persona hasn't seen a mainline release on a Nintendo console since the Super Famicom days.

And the logic that "Atlus just doesn't like money" makes absolutely zero sense. It's not like porting the game doesn't cost anything, and there is no guarantee that it would sell like crazy. On PS4, it sold a little over one-and-a-half million, and that's on a console with nearly three times the install base! Why would Atlus go to the trouble of releasing a game that would most likely sell a million copies or less?

There are likely several reasons as to why this isn't being released, and it has nothing to do with "punishing" Nintendo fans.

Re: There Is "No Plan" To Bring Persona 5 Royal To Other Consoles, Atlus Reiterates

BanjoPickles

That's why these rumors are ridiculous. How long did people hold on to this ridiculous notion that Switch would be getting Fallout 4? GTA 5? Dark Souls Trilogy? Persona 5? Final Fantasy XV? A company can't allow their IP to be used in Smash Bros without people expecting that company to throw their full weight behind the Switch, and that's unrealistic. Just take it for what it is: a new character to play as, instead of it being a sign of things to come.

I fully support/welcome third party releases, but there is no point in dwelling on what ISN'T released.

Re: Once Again, EA Angers Switch Fans By Falsely Advertising FIFA 19 Content

BanjoPickles

@Razer

The last EA game I purchased was Fight Night Round 3, over a decade ago. I was well-aware, even then, that EA was somewhat of a shady company, but they were still putting out decent games that didn't require microtransactions and the like. It reached a point, though, where their output didn't do anything for me, and I couldn't support their practices, which I saw as being counter-productive to the industry.

They've lost me, and to support them is to support the dismantling/exploitation of an industry that I love. There are more than enough companies that fill that tiny void.

Re: Once Again, EA Angers Switch Fans By Falsely Advertising FIFA 19 Content

BanjoPickles

Well, as long as people keep buying their garbage, they'll keep shoveling it. I haven't purchased a game by them since Fight Night Round 3, and I don't plan on doing so. Their business practices suck, and they are anti-consumer, and I believe that they are going to have a hand in the dismantling of the best parts of the industry itself.

I'm sorry, but don't complain about them in one breath, then buy their product in the next. You're sending the message to them that they're on the right track.

Re: This Fan-Made GameCube Classic Mini Is Both Adorable And Fully Functional

BanjoPickles

Honestly, even though Reggie shot the rumor down late last year, I do see the N64 Mini (and beyond) as being somewhat inevitable. What else are they going to do, let over ten years (N64 and GC combined) of their history die? They're either going to revive the Virtual Console, which I think would cannibalize indie (Nindie?) sales, or they're going to revive the Mini line. Honestly, I think that the Mini route is more ideal, so you don't have a digital library of retro games that disappears once the console dies out, or is sold.

Re: Donkey Kong Jr., Clu Clu Land And VS. Excitebike Join The Switch Online NES Library On 15th May

BanjoPickles

Honestly, this is pretty unexciting stuff.....but who cares? Honestly, as much as I love NES games, their position in my Switch library is pretty low. I’m still working on Cuphead, then Saint’s Row, then the Castlevania/Contra Collections, then (ho boy) Mario Maker 2! Honestly, there is so much good stuff coming down the pipeline that the monthly NES games largely go unplayed.

Re: A New Earthworm Jim Is Coming, But There's A Rather Large Catch

BanjoPickles

I know that I'm probably going to sound like a jerk by saying what I'm about to say, but these "little" guys need to seriously back out. One of the things that I like about modern gaming is that, unlike what transpired in the early 1990's, the market isn't inundated with hardware! What, exactly, do they hope to accomplish?

I mean, does the modern gaming market really need FIVE or more consoles? Xbox, Playstation, Switch, Atari VCS, and now Intellivision?

As much as i loved Earthworm Jim, and it's sequel, there is absolutely no way I'm buying a console like this. Sorry, but Sony and Nintendo together give me everything that I need.

Re: Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers Officially Confirmed For Switch

BanjoPickles

@KoopaTrooper

But what if they have something to announce at a future date? Maybe they're not ready to make an announcement, or squash rumours. I'm sure that there are business considerations beyond "let's lead the consumer along by a string."

People need to understand that converting a game from PS3/PS4 to Switch isn't a simple drag and drop. They would have to do it from the ground up. These things do take time. I look at it like "if it comes, great" but if it doesn't? Well, I have Dragon Quest 11S to look forward to, along with the upcoming Wolfenstein Youngblood, Doom Eternal, Saint's Row the Third, the recently released ports of Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X2, and the upcoming XII, Civilization VI, Diablo III, Dark Souls Remastered, Cuphead, Hellblade, etc.

And those who are saying that Atlus baited people along because they put an "S" at the end of the title? That's just.....ridiculous! LOL!

Re: Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers Officially Confirmed For Switch

BanjoPickles

And this is the problem with RUMORS! People are getting upset over a game that was never even PROMISED! Scramble looks like a really fun game, but people have been so suckered by the rumours that sites like Nintendo Life really push that they're treating these rumours like they're cancelled game announcements!

"But Joker is in Smash!" Yeah? So are Solid Snake (Metal Gear hasn't been on a Nintendo platform since Gamecube), Richter (where's Rondo of Blood?), Little Mac (there hasn't been a new Punch Out in two generations), Lucas and Ness (Mother is a dead franchise that hasn't seen a new release in over fifteen years), Pac Man, etc.

How about this: instead of whining about a game that was never once promised, or even hinted at, by Atlus we look at this from the perspective of "yay, Switch gets another fun-looking, well-made game in it's ever-growing library!" It certainly beats being bitter about it, all because of a series of stupid rumours.
